[Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Hello everyone and welcome into another edition of the GSMC College Football Podcast brought to you by the GSMC Sports Network. I am your host, as always, Tom in Brazil. It is Wednesday, October 23rd around here, and we have a great show for you today. We got to start jumping into that crazy week nine ahead, so we'll get into a couple of SEC matchups to start off. We'll get into Texas heading over to Vanderbilt to play a huge one, as well as Missouri, going down to Tuscaloosa for a big time one for them. If they can win that one, they're very much on their way to the CFP. Then we'll get into a couple of games that are going to happen over the week. Then we'll get into Syracuse at Pitt, a huge one over there in the ACC, and then Boise State UNLV, maybe the biggest one in the group of five this upcoming weekend, even with Navy and Notre Dame facing off. Definitely going to be an incredible one out there in Las Vegas. Then we'll get into some different chaos teams as we head down the stretch of the season. There are a couple of teams in each conference that I think could definitely throw a wrench into the works as we get down the stretch of the season, and definitely one in particular that could throw quite a few wrenches into the work. Then we'll get into the top 12 teams. We'll work down exactly what we need to see from them this upcoming weekend. Obviously LSU going on the road to Texas A&M, a huge one that they're going to have to respond to, and definitely some things that I want to see from that group. Then we'll just finish it off with some Wednesday questions as we head into this upcoming weekend. Definitely a lot of them, including who needs the bounce back the biggest. I think there's two in the SEC that definitely need it very, very badly. Before we jump in, I do want to remind you all we get tons of questions and comments throughout the show. The best way for you all to get your question on the screen, we now have fun back and forth here, is to use that super chat. At the bottom of the chat on the Sports Network page, you can click the dollar sign, add a question, comment you'd like, and I will definitely respond to it. It'll pop up on the screen. We can have fun back and forth here. Definitely want this to be as interactive as possible. So utilize that for sure, and we can definitely make this a little bit more fun for all of us. But let's go ahead and jump in here because we got a couple of games. We got to break down in the SEC because these are two really, really interesting games. Two that could be huge in the SEC race down the stretch and could knock a couple of teams out of the CFP race. If a couple of teams are not careful this upcoming weekend, but let's start with that Texas game. They're heading over to Nashville to play against Vanderbilt, and it is the second time that a team has faced Vanderbilt right after facing Georgia, and we know the first time went. Alabama went up there and fell, and it was definitely a very, very good game from Vanderbilt. Do they bring that same energy? And frankly, they slept a little bit throughout the first parts of that ball state game, and it could be that they were looking ahead to this game just a little bit. Overall, with that ball state game, I think it's easy to look at the score and be very nervous. They were able to score on five of their nine total drives. So not all that terrible. Now they do need to turn those threes into sevens at the end of the day because this is not an offense where you're going to be able to just put up a bunch of threes and be able to win a game. No two ways about that. So there's a lot of different things that they're going to have to figure out. They're going to have to be better at finishing off drives against one of the better red zone defenses in the entire country. So it's going to be really interesting to see what Texas is like going into this one, because obviously a really, really tough loss, a one that kind of punched you in the teeth, knocked you down, you have to kind of reset. We'll see what the team is really about. I think one of the big time things, at least from my perspective, that this team had in droves going into the season was leadership. They had Queen Eures, they have the third year quarterback, they had guys across the offensive line that had been there for quite some time. They had David Bendon, the defensive side, as well as Jada Barron. I feel like this team has the leadership to get through this. We'll find out on Saturday because they're playing a really, really good team. It's one of those games that I feel like after the Bama game, people tried to kind of discount what happened on that field, partly because I think they tried to say, well, Bama's not the normal Bama. That's why they lost or, you know, Bama made a ton of mistakes, but Vanderbilt just outright beat them. And I hope it doesn't happen again, where if Vanderbilt beats Texas, we say, oh, Texas is just terrible, or if Texas beats Vanderbilt, we just say, oh, Vanderbilt's just not the team that we thought they were. I think we just got to give love to Vanderbilt at this point. They're playing really, really good football and all the eyes will obviously be on those two guys right there. Quinn Evers and Diego Pavi are very interesting quarterbacks, because they're playing a little bit different of football over the last little bit. Diego Pavi is one of the stories of college football thus far, playing very, very efficiently and running that offense about as well as anyone in the entire country. And then Quinn Evers on the other side, two not so great weeks in a row and definitely coming back from that injury, just a little bit shaky. And we'll see if he can kind of bounce back in this game, because they badly need him too. There's no two ways about that. And then we got to get into Jayden Blue. I think this is definitely a player to watch. He was one of those guys that in the Georgia game just didn't get the ball very often. And a lot of that was circumstantial with the way the game kind of got away from Texas early on. A lot more passing that had to be done in a lot of sacks that came from that. But at the end of the day, I think Jayden Blue is one of those players that you got to get the ball in his hands, especially out in space. He is so hard to deal with. And I think he's one of those guys that if you're playing a Vandy team that likely is just going to try to take away that big throw like Georgia did early on in that game and then just trusted their front seven to get there, it's one of those things that you're going to have to hit the underneath route. You're going to have to hit the dump off and then let him make plays. And this guy can absolutely make plays after the catch. Baron Sorrell is also another guy to watch here. And I think the biggest thing here is this team has to be very disciplined. And we'll get to that here in a second, but he the edges in particular have to be very, very disciplined against a guy like Diego Pavia because he will get out on the edge and run for 30, 40 yards and totally change this game. So a guy like Baron Sorrell, that is incredible. And one fits incredible in keeping everything pinned in. He's going to have to do his job really, really well on Saturday. And if he gets blown up a little bit or if he gets a little bit too far upfield or makes just one wrong step, Diego Pavia can make and pay for it. No two ways about that. I realize I am saying that a lot. Apologies to the commenter. They got it. I got that caught that yesterday because definitely I'm going to that well quite a bit. But at the end of the day, Junior Cheryl is another guy that I want you guys to watch a wide receiver for Vanderbilt, a very, very important player to this team because there's a lot of different things that happen in the run game. No two ways about that. There is a lot of different things that they do. There's a lot of different ways that they go about business. They're going to need to hit a couple of big plays in this game. They're going to need to hit him over the top for a couple of those big time touchdowns like they did against Alabama, or they're going to be in a little bit of trouble here. And then finally, we got Miles Capers. He's a defensive end kind of pseudo defensive end for Vanderbilt in this game. And he's one of those guys that you have a Texas team that just struggled very, very mightily with teams got there in pressure. You're going to have to get there on Saturday. You're absolutely going to have to. And it's one of those players that if he has a big time effect, then this Vandy team can absolutely get another win over a top five opponent this year. But moving on to some of the keys to the game, defensive discipline. We talked about it a second ago, but the reality is both these offenses are incredibly good at putting you in conflict. Texas does a better job of it pre-snap while Vanderbilt does a little bit more post-nap to put you in conflict. But both are incredibly tough to defend. So you can't over commit. You can't be, you know, blasting through a run hole because the reality is there's going to be someone running around the edge of the the edge of the line and making life tough for you. You have to be able to say discipline, not over commit, not over do things and then just make the play in front of you. That's going to be hugely important for this game and whoever can really just tackle better might just be in a better position to win this one. And then we talked about it. The quarterback play is going to be hugely important. Diego Pavia is just a maestro for this Vanderbilt offense. He's absolutely incredible. The watch makes pretty much every right decision throughout the game. And then Quinn Eure is looking for that bounce back game. A very talented kid. No two ways about that. No two ways about that. But at the end of the day, he is one of those guys that very much needs a bounce back in this one and can he get it this weekend against a defense that has been vulnerable to those big time plays and those pass offenses that can get down the field and then having a counter. This is the biggest thing for me from Texas last weekend was felt like Steve Sarkeesian in that offense just really didn't have a counter to what UGA was doing early on in that pass rush. And they're going to have to on Saturday because Vanderbilt's going to be able to respond to you. And then on the other side, Vanderbilt's offense needs to have a counter because they're probably going to have to score quite a bit to be able to stay in this game. And frankly, I think Texas gets right in this one. I think they're going to come in with their hair on fire. I think they're going to come in with a little bit of extra energy. And I think that leadership that seems to be very prevalent with this team is going to shine through in this one. So very much like Texas in this spot. But then we got to talk about this one, another huge one down there in Tuscaloosa and one that very weird dynamics as we head into this one. Missouri is the team that's probably in the catbird seat going forward. They're the team with only one loss in this conference and they're the team that's still looking at the CFP and very no uncertain terms by any means. But at the end of the day, you very much have to win this game if you want to keep those hopes alive. I do think Missouri is one of those teams that you finish the season 10 and 2. You could be one of the ones on the outside looking in, which you don't want at all. But if you get this win, it's not only is it Eli Drinkwood's biggest win of his career by probably a mile, but it is also a win that puts you in just remarkably good position to possibly make an SEC at least a CFP run. But the big question I have here is how healthy is Jalen Millrow? How healthy is he? Is he close to 100%? Is he closer to 80 70%? Because they're going to need his legs in this game. And I'll talk about that here in a second because they're going to try to take some pressure off him, but they haven't been able to yet. And then Missouri on the other side, they got a quarterback injury. Brady Cook actually left the game, went to a hospital, and then came back before winning that game against Auburn. So that's guts. No two ways about that. But he's one of those guys that's going to be so dangerous to watch. He's very, very much one of those guys that can extend plays with his legs. Are they comfortable doing that with him on Saturday? Is that something that they feel good about? Or is that something that they're going to shy away from just a little bit and then Marcus Carroll and maybe Nate Noelle will find out about that a little bit later in the week. We'll see what they can do on that front as well. And then Missouri is just right in the mix. I think this is one where if you lose, there's a reality where you're taking out of the SEC race and there's a reality where you're taking out of the CFP race, honestly. And then on the other side, Alabama could be out of the CFP race before November starts. That would be absolutely incredible and be one of the craziest tournament events in this season. But the way they're playing right now wouldn't be all that crazy to watch. I'll be totally honest. But a couple of players to watch in this game. I think Mookie Cooper is a hugely important guy because obviously Luther Burton, Theo, they're absolute dudes. Mookie Cooper is a guy that can change the game in one second. And then really, all those guys can. No two ways about that. But I do think he's someone that absolutely can make tons of plays after the catch and be just a load to deal with for that back end that is susceptible at times. No, no doubt that they can absolutely get beaten over top. And we'll see what happens with that one. But I think Mookie Cooper is one of those players that can do that. And then he got Chris McClellan, a very important player on the interior of that defensive line for Missouri. Alabama hasn't been able to run the ball very effectively. And the reality is, if they can't in this game, it's going to be really, really tough sledding as it was in the Tennessee game. So Chris McClellan, can you stop the run? If they can stop the run on the interior, then I don't know what Alabama is going to be able to get going unless Daily Mill Road can put on a Superman cape once again this year. And then we got Justice Haynes. This is a very interesting stat that I actually heard from Josh Pate. I believe yesterday, when he was talking about this game, he said, uh, Justice Haynes and Jamarian Miller have not totaled together 70 yards in an SEC game. That is absolutely insane. And something that cannot happen going forward, especially with a dinged up Jalen Milro. So definitely something to watch there. And then Jahad Campbell's a very interesting one, because I don't necessarily think he plays into what Missouri does all that often or anything like that. I just think he's such a dynamic player in this game that when you have a team like Missouri, that is going to be able to hurt you in quite a number of different ways with all the weapons that they have, that rangey linebacker becomes that much more important. So him, as well as the nickel on this team, whether it's, you know, Devante Smith or someone else, hugely important in this game, just to kind of plug up all the gaps that are going to be there at some point. And then the keys to this game, there's a huge gap in the errors that these two teams are making. Missouri is very good at avoiding errors. Only fifth in giveaways, 36th in penalties, Bama, 81st in giveaways, 128th in penalties. So a very, very clear gap in what these teams are, just making mistakes, handing things to other teams. Bama can't do that on Saturday because the reality is Missouri will take them and they have plenty of playmakers to make the plays down the field. No doubt about that. And then you do have the run game and the running backs have to carry the load. There's no way you can get a run game going if these running backs are not willing to carry the load. Marcus Carroll, he had 40 yards last week. Wasn't necessarily all that effective. And then we talked about your Mario Miller and Justice Haynes have yet to be very effective for Alabama and they badly needed them in this game. Frankly, you could come to me at the end of the game. If you showed me the running back stats for both these teams, I'd probably be able to tell you who won the game. It's hugely important for what the running backs do in this one. And then finally, Bama's headspace, they're officially on thin ice. And frankly, they could be out of it by now. I don't really know how everything's going to shake out with all the craziness happening up top. So it's one of those things that you got to win out and no doubt. And you're going to have to be able to handle that. And Missouri is not necessarily an easy team to deal with. They're going to have to come in with their hair on fire. And again, we're going to learn the mental toughness of this team. It's failed a couple of times before. Can it succeed this upcoming Saturday? I tend to believe to. I do think Alabama is going to be able to get this one done. I don't think it's going to be all that pretty. I do think Jalimaro is going to be playing better football. I think he's going to be able to hit more receivers and stride. Frankly, he missed Ryan Williams a couple of times in that Tennessee game that could have had them winning by 14 points. But at the end of the day, he didn't. So we had a he has to be better on this day. I do think the running backs get going just slightly better than they have been in the past. And it's not a very high bar. But at the end of the day, I do think Alabama gets a huge win a win that they badly badly need. And they keep moving forward. They're still very much alive in the CFP race. I think the SEC race is becoming a little bit too murky up top for me to feel confident that Bama can get back into that. But I promise you, a 10 and two Bama team is in the playoff. But at the end of the day, two really, really interesting games. I have Texas and Bama winning them. But both those other teams absolutely have a chance to win them. And then we're looking at an SEC with a lot of questions. There's no two ways about that. But let's take our first break here. When we come back, we got to talk about some of the weekday games. We'll talk about Syracuse at Pittsburgh to start and then Boise State UNLV, one of the best games of the entire weekend. And it's going to be a crazy one. They're an allegiance stadium, cannot wait. But we'll talk about them right after this. At Sprout's Farmers Market, we're all about fresh, healthy, and delicious. We just talked about a couple of SEC match-ups. Texas heading over to Vanderbilt to play a huge one Missouri heading down to Bama for what looks to be kind of a CFP playing game for them. I do have Texas and Alabama getting right in those games but two very very fun ones to watch no doubt but let's get into segment two here and before we get in very much appreciate everyone watching right now it never goes unnoticed very very fun to see a couple of those numbers start to take up and love that people are you know enjoying what I'm doing over here means the world to me cannot express that enough but let's get into these games that are happening throughout this week and we got some good ones. This one that I think a lot of people are going to overlook but you really should not. There's a huge game in the ACC as we move forward because this is another game it's going to have points. I can almost promise you that. This is going to be really really fun uh pit or Syracuse excuse me is third in the country and pass offense 355 yards per game Kyle McCord's doing work in that backfield and then you have Eli Holstein playing one of the best football of anyone in the entire ACC they're 14th in the country with 296 through the air so we're gonna see the ball slung around I can promise you that and if you'd love to see a couple of chaotic plays I think this might just be the game for you on Thursday night not that Thursday night football but at the end of the day it's going to be really really fun to watch this one and neither defense is all that great at stopping it Syracuse's eighth on in past defense 236 allowed pit is 95th and that's a eighth 85th excuse me and pit and pit is 95th 246 yards allowed so this is going to be one that gets up and down I can almost promise you that and the quarterback battle is one that's really really fun it's two quarterbacks that coming into the season if I told you Kyle McCord and Eli Holstein are going to be some of the stories of the ACC you probably would have called me crazy but the reality is they're probably top five top four quarterbacks in the ACC right now behind those two guys Cam Ward and Kay Clubnick and Eli Holstein playing really really good football one of the top quarterbacks in the ACC and absolutely love watching him so that's going to be a really fun battle and one that I think we could get up both those guys could get over 300 yards in this game passing but players to watch Jackson Meakes has become a huge player for Syracuse 459 yards on the season one of those guys that can just make all the plays that you need him to whether it's a jump ball whether it's you know the more nuanced routes whatever that looks like he is very very talented transferred over from UGA with Fran Brown and he is really flourish in this offense and has become Kyle McCord's favorite target right next to O'Ronday Gadson so very much like this guy and I think he adds a super important element to this team in explosivity and then he got Derek McDonald on the other side the leading tackler for this team in the middle of that defense and when you look at Pitt there are so many things you have to worry about that there's not one player on that defense that's any more important than the other what I will say is he's going to get this uh this next year that I'm going to talk about a lot and he is a load to deal with and that is Desmond Reed Desmond Reed has been one of the interesting stories around the country if you have not watched this kid play football yet absolutely do on Thursday he is so much fun to watch 835 all-purpose yards he I believe is their second leading receiver as well as their leading rusher so he's a very very important player to this team and is playing some of the best football in the entirety of the ACC right now love this player and he can change the game in a second no two ways about that and then you ever shot battle a very very talented player on the back end of that pit defense has four pass up pass breakups for this year and frankly that could be the difference in this game just what d what back end of this defense can make that one play can make that one pass defense on a third down or make that one pick and we'll get into that in the keys to the game here because setting the tone is going to be huge in this one neither of these teams are I don't want to say can't play from behind because they absolutely can but they're very much teams in momentum they can play a game where if they're rolling if their offense is moving right along they're going to be really really hard to stop if you get them a little bit stagnant then you can you can kind of get them into a weird place kind of like Stanford did against Syracuse earlier this year and what West Virginia did at least early on in that game against pit so it's definitely something to watch here who can get on the board first who can set the tone who can kind of set the pace of this game whether that's with the run or the pass who can kind of set the pace of this game and get out in front early is going to be a huge moniker for who's going to be able to win it and then Desmond Reed against LeQuint Allen is going to be huge to watch the past game is going to get all the attention there's going to be tons of seven eight drop coverages that just make it really hard on these quarterbacks to find openings that means these running backs are going to have to pick up to slack well Quint Allen is one of my favorite players in the ACC 449 yards on the ground four touchdowns and we talked about Desmond Reed 494 on the ground and three touchdowns very very talented player and then obviously Desmond Reed adding that receiving aspect as well as LeQuint Allen just not nearly to the same level both are very important in this game and could just be the difference in this game really and then that one defensive play we just talked about it with Rashad battle you just got to make one I don't think this is going to be a game that is decided by a huge margin I really do think it's going to come down to that one play who can make that one breakup on third or fourth down who can get that one pick and Syracuse has six picks on the year pit has five they're both plus two in the turnover margin so not a lot to kind of take away from that of who will make that play but I can almost promise you that that's what this is going to come down to and when I look at the back end of these defenses I tend to trust Syracuse just a touch more I think Syracuse has enough guys on the back end to make the plays that they very much need to Justin Barron is an incredible player on the back end of that defense and I think Syracuse ends pits undefeated season I kind of hate to see it go I'll be honest with you but at the end of the day I do think Syracuse gets this one done and I think it's going to be a really really fun one no two ways about that so definitely tune into that one leave Thursday net football in the rearview mirror because this is a very very fun one unless you have two TVs then get it all going and have a good time but moving on to just a huge one when you look across the it's landscape for this weekend this might not be the one that fully jumps off the page with a ton of ranked matchups on Saturday it definitely should this could be as clear of a play in game as I as you have the entirety of the season because the reality is let's just play out a hypothetical here where Navy plays Notre Dame this weekend they lose and then army plays Notre Dame later on and they lose this is going to be the team that gets in the winner of this game I feel very confident now they could obviously stumble the rest of the way and then you have to figure out who would go but at the end of the day I do think this is one of those games where whoever wins this one I would feel pretty confident betting on to make the CFP now army could beat Notre Dame and totally change that but the reality is these are two really really good teams and UNLV has been rolling right along since falling to Syracuse and frankly in that Syracuse game they're rolling right along offensively at least and they beat Oregon State last week hodum league Williams continues to really execute this offense at a very high level and then on the other side I don't have to talk about him too much it is the grim reaper action jainty he's an absolute problem to deal with and he's one of those guys that do whatever you need to do you can have the best run defense in the country and Oregon has a really really good one he ran all over him so I don't know if there's a necessarily a way to outright stop him but UNLV is going to have to try to at the very least and then there's one of those games that both these teams have been circling from the jump there's no two ways I think it's one of those games where you have Georgia Alabama they were circling it from the beginning of the season Texas Georgia they were circling it from the beginning of the season as well as Ohio State Oregon circling it from the beginning of the season this is their game this is maybe the g5 game of the year when you talk about these two teams and what they can do possibly going into the playoffs so huge game huge matchup over there in allegiance stadium and we'll see who can come out on top but a couple players to watch are Ricky White Ricky White is absolutely incredible and obviously he is a wide receiver he's plenty good at that I expect him to be playing on Sundays next year no two no doubt about that but also he has three block punts on the year there's no other team in the country that has two that has more than two he is absolutely absurd he's the best special teams player in the country and one of the best wide receivers in the country so he's one of those guys that can change this game not only on the offensive side of the ball but when you see him coming off the edge on those punt blocks then definitely watch out because the game can change in a hurry and then we got Jackson Woodard he has his hands full and he knows that going into this weekend he is going to be the guy that he's going to have to take down Ash and J.T. a lot of the time because he's getting through the first gap I feel very confident that he is going to find a way to get through that defensive line I don't want to say easily but he's going to do it I feel good about that and then you got to be able to meet him if he gets into out into open field in front of some of your DB's they have no shot Jalen Katalon can help you out with this a little bit to avoid that big time play but at the end of the day Jackson Woodard is going to be hugely important and maybe just maybe the last line of defense against Ash and J.T. in this game and then we got to talk about Cameron Camper this is a guy that has been entirely overshadowed throughout this year because of what J.T. is doing in that back end this is an NFL wide receiver very very talented guy a really really good blocker can go up and get 50-50 balls very very talented all over the field and when you're focusing on Ash and J.T. when you're bringing guys down into the box you just need that one big play over top and I think they can make it in this one and it probably will be the Cameron Camper and then I want to talk about Amman Hassanine a very very talented defensive end for Boise State five and a half sacks on the year he's actually coming over from Cairo Egypt so a very very interesting story out there and he's doing really really good work for them coming off the edge and if you want to get to this UNLV team you're going to have to be able to get to Hodge Malik Williams and either force him out of the pocket but then you got to worry about his leg so the defensive ends linebackers for Boise State are going to have their hands full with this run game for UNLV and on the other side the UNLV run defense is going to be very interesting to watch because I don't know what you do I'll be totally honest I don't know what the fix is to stop this kid because the reality is people have stacked the box people have gotten guys to spy him people have gotten guys to just all out rush and try to get there before he gets the ball none of it works the second he has the ball in his hands he is going to be impossible to deal with UNLV has the 25th best run defense in the country I don't know if it matters I'll be totally honest I think you could have the number one run defense in the country he's still probably going for a buck 50 on you so it's going to be interesting to watch this one if they can just slow him down even slightly keep him under 100 yards and you win the game keep him under maybe even 125 and you might be able to win the game and then on the other side you got to be able to lengthen dries one thing about the Boise State offense is yes you are running the ball because you have that guy he's also breaking a lot of big time runs and it's keeping your defense in some precarious situations throughout the game so who can have that game where or who can have that play or that drive excuse me that you go eight minutes and you run 14 plays I mean Boise State averages six more plays per game than UNLV so they're a little bit more slow moving than UNLV is but at the end of the day neither of these teams move all that slowly in this game and you're gonna have to figure out a way to just kind of slow things down just to touch it doesn't need to be perfect by any means but give your defense that one extra breather to get back out on that field and get the one stop that could change this game and then composure this is a huge game and no one needs to be told that in either of these facilities whether it's the players the coaches the training staff it does not matter everyone understands that this is the game they need to win if they want to make the CFP who can kind of rise to the moment who can you know stay disciplined not miss tackles not miss assignments which quarterback can not get a little bit happy feet like we saw Quinn viewers last week against Texas got a little bit at art against Georgia got a little bit of happy feet and things kind of fell apart whoever can avoid that the best is going to be able to win this game and frankly I just can't pick against oh no I put them in the wrong place Boise State I have winning this game I hate to do that but Boise State I do have winning this game 38 to 35 I flipped them when I was making this graphic I very much apologize but I do have Boise State maybe they're sending me a sign here and telling me to pick a UNLV but I'll roll with Boise State right now and I will take my lookings for this afterwards but totally my fault definitely put this graphic together just a little bit backwards but I do have Boise State winning getting that huge win and Ash and JT kind of putting a little bit of a stamp on that Heisman campaign that he's been on but a little bit of a mix up for myself there and maybe it'll come back to bite me not just taking it for what it is but at the end of the day I do think Boise State wins that game I do think Syracuse ends pit season on Thursday or undefeated season on Thursday so a couple of really really fun matchups that you might be overlooking just a little bit because they're in the weekdays you know you're not necessarily fully into the swing you're gonna want to tune into those ones they're very very fun games and we'll have plenty to do with what the CFP looks like down the road but let's take our second break here and when we come back I just want to get into some chaos teams we're getting towards that part of the year we're getting to kind of the home stretch right and I want to get into two teams from every conference that I think can just throw a couple of wrenches into the work if they can continue to handle business and maybe beat a couple of teams that you do not expect them to beat so we'll break it down right after this so stick with us but there's only one Syracuse pit coming up tomorrow we also have Boise State UNLV on fr- on friday and we have some very very fun ones i do think Syracuse ends that pit run i do think Boise State continues their run towards the cfp with a huge win over UNLV but both incredible games i think they might just end up being some of the games of the weekend but we will get to all the other ones later on in the week but we got to talk about some chaos teams what are the teams that can cause all of the chaos down the stretch of the season because we have about five weeks left i believe i i'm getting lost in all of the craziness but i believe we have five weeks left in the season and there's plenty of things that can happen in those five weeks and there's definitely some teams i want to go to per conference and kind of just break down the different reasons why i think they could throw a lot of wrenches into the works in this one and we'll start with smu this is a team that actually just got some really bad news this past i believe yesterday the star tight end and leading receiver rj maryland is out for the year what the injury he suffered in the stamfer game this one hurts no two ways about that they badly need this guy because he is hugely important to what they could do in the past game kevin jennings is a good passer having that guy over the middle of the field that's a little bit easier to find is huge is just huge for him so they're going to have to lean on bershot smith they're going to have to lean on some of these running backs and then jake bailey kishan smith they're going to have to step up at the wide receiver position but at the end of the day a huge blow to that team still very very talented still a very dynamic offense the defense is starting to play really good football they do have got duke this weekend and then pit if they win both those games then they are very much going to be favors the rest of the way and if they win out then you're in a very period situation in the ACC where you could have three teams that are undefeated in conference play but we'll get there when we get there definitely a team that you could see at the end of the year just sneaking into the playoff in fact i had them in my playoff when i did the mid-season predictions redo so definitely a team to watch over there in dallas and then up in blacksburg virginia tech is a very interesting team to me because i don't think they're necessarily going to make a huge run at this conference i think they dug themselves a little bit of a hole early on in the season that being said they only do they do only have one loss so still plenty of doors open for them but they invite gordetech into town then it's up to sariq's before a huge one against klimson and i think they could go anywhere from three and oh to oh and three in those games they have that volatility about them but the issue is they beat sariq's or they beat klimson especially klimson obviously that totally changed at the acc the race totally changes maybe klimson doesn't even go to the acc title with all the tiebreakers and craziness around them so they're a team that on one saturday could just cause nightmares and with the way that by shalltuten is running the ball right now it's a nightmare for anyone to deal with and then kyron drones starting to make a couple of plays off schedule the way that you would hope that he would have to start the season and then the wide receiver group is just really deep really veteran and i think it's a group that's going to be able to win on some of these games that maybe we don't expect them to win so a huge team one of those teams that definitely is on a little bit on the outside looking in in the acc but very easily could change that over the next three weeks moving over to the big 10 indiana just has to be on here uh they're one of those teams that i think everyone felt like they probably weren't a fall last week and that season was going to come to an end well they said at seven and oh and outside of the ohio state game they're in a position to be pretty heavily favored and a lot of the games they have coming for they have an interesting one this weekend that we'll talk about more in detail tomorrow but this is a game that could be just or there's a team that could just totally create chaos and that Ohio state game is the one where everything could go crazy obviously you got to get through a couple of different things and the biggest one is kurtis work is not going to play this weekend i don't know if he's going to play the following weekend but as of right now you were going into that washing game without your starting quarterback tavin jackson just needs to answer the bell he did a great job in the back end of that game against nebraska but can he uh follow that up with a huge performance against a really good defense over there for washington and then on the other side i mean when you talk about the playmakers on this team it's an absolute nightmare to deal with just as elison was downright special against nebraska this past weekend elijah serrat is becoming just unguardable on the outside in a lot of different ways and they have so many complementary pieces on that team that they're going to be really hard to key in on and they can be just about anyone in the big 10 and maybe even in the country if that offense is playing the way that they are right now and then was constant is a very very interesting team to watch because it starts this weekend they got penn state coming to town we will break down that game in full tomorrow i can promise you that but it's going to be one of those games where they win that one the entire big 10 is totally different than the way that we thought it was going to be penn state might be on the sea on the outside of the cfp looking in because that ohio state games coming up you lose that one you're at ten and two and i'm finding more and more that might just be the chopping block as we get into the cfp but at the end of the day it's one of those huge ones and you got uh excuse me i apologize and then you uh after a week that you have a little bit of a break you got a organ coming to town uh in another place where you can create a little bit of chaos so this is a team that a little bit more circumstantially you know just the teams that they play they play penn state they play organ you're obviously going to be able to throw a wrench into the works and frankly i'm not going to outright make this pick but wouldn't be crazy to me if they were able to win at least one of those games but then the thing to talk about here is toby walker he's been incredible top 90 yards in the last three games he's very very important to what they can do and if they can eliminate some of the turnover issues they've dealt with in the last three games they can be winning these games much more comfortably and then who knows what happens the saturday and then when they play organ but one of those teams that just seems to be hitting their stride at the perfect time moving over to the big 12 i mean come on they're obviously a chaos team there's no doubt about that this is a team that absolutely is in a position to make a big time run and possibly even win this conference go to the playoff and make me and a lot of people that doubted dion sanders look very very dumb and i'd be more than happy to take my lickings when that does happen but this is a very talented team they got to have Travis Hunter i feel very very confident that they're not going to be able to get through the rest of the season unscathed without him on the field pretty consistently that is your best wide receiver that is your best corner if he is not going to be on the field for half of every game going forward i just feel like you're going to get got at some point i i just cannot get that out of my head now it's very possible that you don't they played really good football without him so it's not necessarily crazy to think that they could do it without him but let's be honest he's the best player on that team and he badly needs to be on the field they do go to texas tech and play utah at home i don't think there's necessarily a spot where they could totally shake things up but absolutely if they were the team that was standing at the end of this at the end of the craziness that is the big 12 this year it would be quite the story and definitely would be the chaos team out there and then since an adi a team that they're actually playing colorado this upcoming weekend so something to watch there but another chaos team and it would start this weekend against uh colorado but also they go to Iowa state and to kansas state towards the end of conference play that is a place where they win any one of those the entire big 12 turns on its head and brenon soresby's been at the very center of it and forgot where he transferred from yesterday it was indiana i could not believe i forgot that but he transferred in from indiana has been awesome this year oh a nearly 2 000 passing yards 13 touchdowns four picks he's been very very important but the defense is really what makes this team go and the funny thing about it is they're not necessarily special against the run or the uh or the pass but they force a lot of turnovers 1.7 turnovers per game they're doing a really good job of stopping teams in the red zone forcing threes instead of seven so maybe that's the formula against colorado you let them get down field play a little bit bendo and break but then one pass flutters a little bit too much you pick it off or one you know play and third down goes a little bit awry you'd knock it down and they force a field goal it's just very little things that this Cincinnati team can do and at some point i feel like they could get under someone's skin so definitely someone to watch that i wasn't even remotely thinking we'd be talking about around week nine but moving forward to the SEC calling alabama a chaos team feels very very weird but they definitely are i mean you look forward to the rest of the season it's not necessarily that they play incredibly big games obviously that lsu1 coming forward and mazuri this weekend are going to be massive but this is too talented of a team just to go to go out with a whimper i feel very confident in that now they got a lot of things to figure out that offense needs to get in the better rhythm jaila milro needs to be more healthy going forward but at the end of the day it's hard for me to say that alabama is just going to kind of fade into oblivion this year lose to mazuri lose to lsu and be an eight and four team at the end of the day so they're one of those teams that if they can win in death valley the entire SEC goes crazy they probably get back into the uh cfp race but at the end of the day we've proven that you can just ambush teams alabama has the ability to just come out there put up 21 points before you even know what happened and then be able to win a game on crazy circumstances but the reality is i don't think you're facing another georgia so if they're able to ambush lsu if they're able to ambush um mazuri this upcoming weekend maybe they can get that win and then they just have to learn mistakes that's the big time thing here if they can do all those things they could win out be very much in the cfp conversation and in that path knock out a number of teams that want to be in that conversation and then you got florida i have to talk about florida here they are playing some really good football down there in Gainesville right about now and there's definitely some doubters out there and there probably should be to be totally fair with the way this team is going right about now but at the end of the day it's really about the schedule ahead um because it's a nightmare and i think we've talked about that from the beginning of the season it's become a little bit less of a nightmare as the season has gone on especially that last game against florida state but they have a bye week this week then it's georgia texas lsu and ol miss and ol miss is a team that very well could be out of the race by then if they lose to georgia before then but at the end of the day they win any of those games it messes up the sec race they win multiple of those games everything goes off the rails and i think they're capable of beating a team like texas that they can get after quinures the way that georgia did i think they're capable of beating a team like lsu if that lsu offense can't quite get going and then you hit those big plays that dj lagway has been able to and that's the part of this that really needs to continue on because they're relying on some young players over there jaden boi freshman did an incredible job over a hundred yards five touchdowns on the ground last week and then dj lagway seven passes for 259 yards in sanity 18.5 yards per per pass or per attempt maybe i believe you went seven for 14 so not the prettiest aim in terms of completion percentage but you get the run game going you hit explosive plays you're going to be able to beat a lot of teams so it's going to be really fun to watch that one unfold and i think they're just one of those teams that they play enough of those teams that every single week they could throw a wrench into this work and create absolute chaos and a conference that is already pretty chaotic no two ways about that but that is going to be absolutely fun to watch i think there's a number of teams that i didn't even touch on that you absolutely could talk about in this light because there's quite a few that could throw just a little bit of a wrench into all of this different craziness that's happening down the stretch and it'll be really really fun to watch that unfold but let's take our third break here and when we come back let's get to the top 12 teams and just talk about what we need to see from them this upcoming weekend whether it's kind of nuanced things what player we need to see on the field what you know player we need to see continue to grow whatever that may be we'll talk about it right after this so stick with us there's only one feeling like knowing your banker personally like growing up with a bank you can count on like being sure what you've earned is available everywhere podcasts are found alrighty welcome back everyone we just broke down some of the chaos teams all around the conferences definitely some teams that could cause some problems no two ways about that as we head to the end of the season i think florida might be the number one on that list just because of all the teams that they play and the murderers row that is the next four weeks for the florida gators but let's get into the top 12 teams in the country let's talk about just who are they playing what do we need to see from them in this game and i think there's a couple of things where you just want to see the same thing continue to happen for a lot of these teams and this is probably the prime example organ has been able to handle business in a really really efficient way the last couple of weeks get that huge win over ohio state go on the road play a game that a lot of people are a little bit nervous about i'm sure and they were able to beat perdue very very comfortably on that friday night now you return home to play in illinois team that has about as much confidence as you could possibly have they're rolling in there feeling really good about where they are and i think luke almaire is feeling really good about the football he can play against pretty much anyone in the country so what does organ do in this game how are they they able to kind of pull away and make this one not necessarily too big of an issue i mean lines 21 and a half so vegas very much expects that but the biggest thing for me here is i want a great day from that back end they got i don't want to say exposed but definitely with some openings we're there for that ohio state game and i promise you luke almaire can do everything that will however can do it in the past game he can absolutely hit every receiver that he's going to need to hit if you have those openings they will take advantage of them and they can definitely get the run game going just a little bit and open up some of those so definitely something to watch there would love to see this just be totally locked down on the back end because you got some really good receivers in pat and pat brian and zakariah franklin and you have a quarterback that's playing really good football and luke almaire so need that and then the other part to me is just you got that number one next to your name for the first time this season for the first time since 2012 you have that number one next year name and it does something to people no two ways about that i mean there's a lot of teams throughout this season alone that have had that number one next to their name and it's gone away pretty quickly because they've gotten a little bit complacent so that's the biggest thing you just want to see this team come out with intent come out with intensity and be ready to roll pretty much from the jump i think they will i don't think that's going to be an issue i mean as dan landing says who cares that their number one but at the end of the day it's going to be really interesting to see what this team is about just mentally going into this game and then you got pen state going up or playing wisconsin this is a very interesting one because it feels like they're walking into a trap and i think everyone feels that way so maybe they're not quite as much but at the end of the day i think wisconsin's a team that has the ability to slow things down play complete drive steal one here or there and then get one and then get a big time win at home so definitely something to watch i think the biggest thing that i want to see here is confidence in jr aller throwing down field he is someone that we know is capable of doing this we also know he just hasn't had to do it and a couple of the games in the past did a great job in the back end of that usc game but in a lot of ways he's been able to kind of take his foot off the gas just a little bit in that respect i'd love to see him to start to open up a little bit more because especially because you got a high of state next week you don't want to look ahead by any means but you need explosive in that game getting him a couple in this one is going to be hugely important just to feel confident going into that one and then the other thing that i'd love to see is just have everything kind of spread out in this offense you know you had tyler worn a couple of weeks ago go for over 200 yards early on the season it was trade heres and then a couple of smatterings from everyone else i need to see a game where multiple guys get over 70 yards you have tyler warren with 75 you have tray heres with 105 you have julian flemming with 55 whatever that looks like just want to see a lot of these different guys get involved spread the ball out a little bit more often and don't allow these teams coming forward especially ohio state to be able to key in on one guy like tyler warren because they can absolutely do that and take him out of that game and then you got a higher state a very very interesting one against the brassica coming into town and this is one that hypothetically they should be able to handle business but it is a very very interesting one with them coming off a buy we'll see how much they're still licking their wounds from that organ game or are they able to refocus and get back to business and the biggest thing here is just the confidence from will howard he had a bad moment towards the end of that game against organ and i have to assume he's been thinking about it quite a bit over the last couple of weeks he's got to be able to put it behind him in this game he's got to be able to go back out there make a big time play and kind of get back into the groove because the best quarterbacks in the world it's not about they don't make any mistakes it's about when they make mistakes they bounce back and make huge plays right afterwards so huge thing a game for will howard just to get that confidence back up and he's got to be able to execute no two ways about that and then you do have the back end defense play terribly against organ i mean there's no other way to put it really they played absolutely terribly and they cannot let these receivers get behind him because as a nayer can make you pay jamal bank can make you play jaylon loyd can absolutely make you pay if you let them get behind you so definitely something they're going to have to clean up and i think it's a little bit more scheme than the actual players so definitely something to watch there we'll see if uh jim no one approaches this just a little bit differently on saturday and then we got the texas game we broke this one down earlier you know what my pick is i do have texas rolling pretty comfortably it definitely going to be an interesting game but i have texas winning by 20 there the biggest thing is obvious it is quin uers you have to have to have to have a really good game here and i don't think he can even have a game where it's shaky i don't think he can have a game where he walks out with one touchdown one interception two hundred twenty five yards whatever that is i don't think that can happen i think he has to really get into a rhythm i think he has to i don't want to say light the scoreboard on fire do anything crazy he has to play very efficient no turnovers maybe two touchdown passes three hundred passing yards just really really get into a rhythm and feel confident going into the back end and kind of hope that that injury has healed just a little bit more and make him feel confident going into this game and then the other thing is just don't excuse me the same the other thing is the same thing georgia had to deal with after bamma make sure that you come into this game with intent make sure that you come into this game with a little bit of energy with a little bit of your hair on fire now georgia it took him a little bit of time to get to that point in that texas game but at the end of the day they are a team that very badly needs to bounce back in a huge way and you got to see the energy from this team and you got to make sure that they are not losing hope that they're not quitting on plays that they're not doing some of the things that kind of did bamma in in this game earlier on in the season and then you got floristate miami a very interesting one that frankly i i keep getting mad at floristate for not being better i'll be honest this is a this is a week that could have been packed to the gills if floristate had just played better football but at the end of the day this is what we have in front of us and this for miami it's about getting a boring win for the first time in a couple of weeks it's about getting a boring win it's about running the football it's about taking a little bit off cam warden this game and it's about just handling business when this game with run game and defense and you'll feel very very confident about where you are going forward now miami playing a boring game has been really hard to come by recently so i'm not necessarily banking on that happening but definitely something that they're looking for in this game and then the other one is just miami's ability to keep focus these last five weeks are going to be hugely important for them and they're going to be kind of a battle you know the there's not a team that's really going to be able to beat you other than sarah cues i think has a real shot but they're going to be hunted every single week they're going to get the best shot of every single team the rest of the way they're going to have to be ready every single week they take their foot off the gas pedal for a quarter against a team like sarah cues or a team like george attack later on the year they're going to be in trouble and this is a game where you can kind of just set the tone that we are not taking our foot off the gas we are going to be a team that goes undefeated goes to the acc title and finds our way into the cfp and then lsu goes on the road to play texas a m a and m favorite in this game by two and a half and this is the one and in this weekend there are so many incredible games but this is the one that's going to be absolutely massive because these are the teams that are sitting atop the sec right now as crazy as that sounds it's lsu and a andm they're the only undefeated teams in conference play and the biggest thing for me here is lsu's got to keep their foot to the gas on defense they have to be intact mode pretty much from start to finish if you can push connor wegman out of the pocket push him off his spot he's not nearly as effective so definitely get after him keep uh playing really really aggressively and then that back end it's going to have to answer a lot of questions against guys like no a thomas and jade walker and a lot of really talented guys on that back syrus allen so they're going to have to answer a lot of questions but this lsu defense doesn't go if they're not aggressive at the line of scrimmage if they're not aggressive in the past rush and then for me it's about nuss mire he has had a interesting year he's played really really good football the last little bit but has had some turnover troubles and you give a andm those chances they are going to take them and score points with them no two ways about that so nuss mire has to be very efficient he has to make the right play and continue to execute at a really high level because he's a very very talented kid he just has to be able to dial back some of those mistakes just a little bit and then be why you ucf i put this uh line in yesterday it has flipped ucf is favored by one and a half in this game so definitely something to watch there but talking about this one bylu is still undefeated they're atop the big 12 ucf has not won a game since september 14th so why is ucf favored i don't know i i promise that they will be an updated graphic tomorrow when we break this game down in a little bit more detail but the big thing i want to see from bylu is don't win the turnover battle and still win this game and i know that sounds kind of like a weird uh want from me but at the end of the day bylu's been able to win the turnover battle in every game but i believe last week against oklma state and we saw how close that one got you got to be able to do that again you got to be able to win a little bit more comfortably in this one while doing that because it at some point it's going to sneak up on you so i'd love to see them lose the turnover battle two zero or one or two one whatever it is and be able to win this one by 14 it would make me feel very confident in bylu going forward i'm just a little bit nervous that that's going to catch up them at some point and then the other thing that i'd like to see is just really elite discipline in tackling uh this UCF team is going to create problems for you on the ground and if you over commit one way jacory brown is going to be behind you for 80 yards so you have to be very careful have to be very disciplined and if you're not UCF is going to take advantage and then finally Notre Dame navy it's a great game we will break it down in full tomorrow i promise you that but this is a game that is really i just cannot wait for it it's so interesting if navy wins it everything is in front of them they can make a CFP run if Notre Dame loses it they are officially out of the CFP race if Notre Dame wins it they're in a really really good spot moving forward although they got army later on in the year but at the end of the day for me i i think it's just all about wryly Leonard he's played good football there's no two ways about that he played good against arkansas he's played made enough plays and he's done just enough i think he's going to need more if they're going to want to win those big games they want to be in the playoff they want to be competing in the playoff and if they're gonna do that wryly Leonard has to be able to make more plays with his arm he has to be able to make more plays overall so he didn't enough against george attack if you rewatch that game was not necessarily an inspiring performance from Notre Dame by any means but they got the job done they got it done relatively comfortably so i'm not necessarily going to talk down on them for that it doesn't change that wryly Leonard needs to be a little bit more for this team and then the other thing i need is just guys not overreacting kind of like what we talked about with that UCF game uh UCF BYU game you cannot overcommit in this offense there are so many things to keep track of in that triple option offense especially one that it's a little bit more dynamic a little bit more of that sling t type offense that a lot of people are running at that ranks right now you're gonna have to be very careful you overcommit one way there's going to be a touchdown the other way or are you undercommit one way it's going to go right by you for a touchdown so you have to be very careful against this uh navy team and really all the triple option teams in the country if you overcommit you are going to get taken advantage of it was something that a lot of these teams in the past did incredibly well it was the reason actually that Georgia Tech won two ACC titles using that method so something to watch there cannot wait for a lot of these matchups and we'll break down a lot of those and much more depth tomorrow especially that big time one in a college station but let's take our last break here and when we come back we got to talk about some winzay questions as we head into this week what's the under the radar game of the week who needs to make a statement was the group of five game of the week and a million different other questions that i want to break down right after this so stick with us but there's only one feeling like knowing your banker personally like growing up with a bank you can count on like being sure what you've earned is safe secure and local there's only one feeling like knowing you're supporting your community you deserve more from a bank you deserve an institution that stood download grammerly for free at grammerly.com/podcast that's g r a m m a r l y dot com slash podcast so so so so all righty welcome back everyone we just talked about those top 12 teams what do they need to do this upcoming weekend because there's a lot of very interesting matchups up there including that game over in college station that we will break down in full tomorrow to start the show so definitely tune in for that but let's get into some questions as we head into this week there are a lot of things that we got to figure out and one of the bigger ones that i have is is this the week where we see some thinning out is this the week where we finally see some teams start to kind of thin out from the herd and we'll likely see that pretty much every single week going forward so there are a couple of games that you're just bound to see that in Missouri alabama being one of them whoever loses this game is out of the sec title race i feel very confident saying that now beyond that i'm not really sure there's definitely a lot of different things that can happen in the cfp race that could switch things up if alabama loses this game they are officially out i feel very confident in that but if mazuri loses they're out of the sec race and frankly i think they're one of those 10 and 2 teams that could be on the chopping block when it comes to selection sunday but obviously plenty of time to go from there it's a huge game that will give us at least a little bit of a thinning out in the sec and then this one will as well if van der built loses the cinderella run that they've been on is officially over they can no longer get that crazy cfp birth that is still alive at this very moment and then for texas you have everything on the table you know you lose this game you're on thin ice and i think they can get in at 10 and 2 but not overly confident you know that uh michigan game that oklahoma game has lost a lot of luster and you're going to have to be able to win a lot of the big time games coming forward but a loss here would definitely put them kind of in that same mazuri camp that you feel good that they possibly could be in the playoff but can't feel confident by any means if they lose this one and then there's a number of other ones i i think you look at boy state unlv will give us an answer obviously ohio state no brassica will at least probably berry no brassica i feel pretty good about that and then note of name navy will give us a little bit something one where the other Notre Dame could be eliminated from cfp contention navy could be eliminated from cfp contention with a loss there so definitely something to watch we will learn quite a bit but as we found out this year with a lot of answers comes a lot more questions so we'll break it all down at the end of the week but definitely going to be an interesting thing to watch there then we got to talk about the under the radar game of the week and this is a game that we will break down a little bit more detail tomorrow because i think it's just a fascinating game but george attack heads up to uh black spurt who faced over the attack this upcoming weekend they get it at noon which is an absolute uh just prayer for a george attack because the reality was playing that game at night would have been an absolute nightmare to deal with no doubt about that but then you do have a kind of an interesting situation in this one it sounds like hane's king will not go uh that's still something that i think is a little bit up in the air partly because i think hane's king is one of those guys you just have to drag off a football field if you don't want him to play but i don't expect him to be out there the wrinkle of that is this guy zak pyron started the last game as a freshman in black spurt and wanted so definitely something to watch there maybe he can just go back maybe that's just his place and he's able to get that win but definitely a fun game to watch a little bit more under the radar and that noon slate then i got the michigan state michigan game this is not going to be you know overly pretty i'm not necessarily saying you're gonna see tons of points and elite plays on the outside what i am saying is you're gonna see a very weird interesting game here because eight and child's on one side he likes to give the ball away that's kind of what he does he played a really really good second half against iowa last weekend but the reality is he's a little bit erratic and on the other side you have an offense that can't really get anything going so there's a reality where we have like five turnover in this game it ends like six to three and we have just the weirdest afternoon on plan of the earth but at the end of the day i do think it's really really going to be fun and frankly it's the first shot of its first time in at least the last couple of years that michigan state has a very real shot in this game so absolutely love it obviously the rivalry plays into that just a little bit and it's one of those games that might not light up the scoreboard but definitely will be a very interesting and fun watch and then texas tech tcu i absolutely love and the funny thing about this one is texas tech is the team that is towards the top of the big 12 still very much in that race they are not favored in this game and probably because they gave up 59 points to balor last week so definitely something they're gonna have to figure out because tcu can cause issues they got to get that run game going with cam cook a little bit more often and a little bit more consistently but they got playmakers on the outside with jack bash and zavion williams and a lot of those guys that can make a ton of really big time plays maybe texas tech just stumbles this week and they're totally taken out of the big 12 race and tcu can at least salvage what has been a relatively disappointing season thus far and then we move forward to who needs to make a statement there are so many teams across the country that just need to prove a point this upcoming weekend and texas might take the cake but i have a winner down the road that might be just a little bit more aggressive but texas definitely needs to prove something there are a ton of people across twitter across college football media wherever that are saying this is just a team that played the first tough team that they played all season and they got exposed they're gonna lose a number of other games throughout the rest of the season and they probably won't make the playoff you have to silence all that that is your goal on saturday if you have the ability to just say no we are still texas we're still going to be able to compete for a national title this would be the weekend to do it with a 25 29 you know dominating win i guess the best way to put it definitely something that texas needs and they don't get it the questions continue to mount noston and then notar dame i think is an interesting one here because there's a lot of people that are picking navy this in this one and i think some of it is just they hate notar dame if i'm being totally honest but some of it is real navy is a very dangerous team that can cause a ton of problems for them i think if notar dame can go out there and get a dominating win it kind of proves to people that they're just turning a corner a little bit and they understand the circumstances that they're under that they lose one of these the games against army navy or navy army or uh believe they play usc at the end of the year is who i'm thinking of they lose one of those games they know they're out and i would love to see a little bit of just outright aggression from the start to finish and hopefully a pretty dominating win if you're a notar dame fan bam it takes the cake for me and i think the biggest thing here is you have a lot of questions to answer on and off the field right now you have to be able to go into this game against mazaria team that frankly is looking a little bit better than you although i don't necessarily love the look of either of those teams right about now but the reality is it's been tested all year it's going to be tested again the toughness and the leadership of this team has to be tested in this game it has not been great thus far just plain period end of story they have not necessarily been great about bouncing back i don't know if the leadership is bad or i don't know if i don't know what's going wrong really because i'm not in that locker room i can say that there is an issue with this team with just kind of that mental toughness that you very much need in the SEC especially down the stretch especially when you need to win a couple of big-time games especially when you go to death valley in a couple of weeks there is a ton of different things that this bam and team needs to get right in this would be a week where you could send a statement that we're still very much alive in this thing and we still want to go to that CFP and we still can get to that CFP and then we got to get to the group of five game of the week and i'm gonna leave boy state UNLV out of this that is the group of five game of the week it is by an absolute country mile but moving forward to the other games that are going to be really fun i love this buffalo Toledo game it's so much it's so interesting it's two teams that had a couple of tough weeks this past weekend but parka Navarro against CJ Obanaya two very very talented runners of the football at quarterback and could cause a lot of problems for those two defenses it could just be one of those games that gets up and down quite a bit you have quarterbacks just running all over the place and it gets a little bit off the rails as a lot of these mac games do so cannot wait for that one definitely going to be a really really fun one that i think you're going to see a couple of quarterbacks make some ridiculously athletic plays in that one and then San Jose state Fresno state is a really really fun one to me these are two teams that are still very much in the see uh mountain west or mountain west conference hunt especially San Jose state and the fun thing about San Jose state they win this game they've UNLV and boy state still ahead on their schedule so they could throw a wrench into the works they could be the team that ends up getting that g5 birth because they only have one loss they get all of these wins it'd be hard to keep them out i can promise you that so a team that you might not be thinking about too too much in the g5 race right now that could change in a hurry over the next couple of weeks for a San Jose state and then you got two lane north texas this is my pick because i absolutely love this game i think there's going to be a little bit all over the place we'll actually get to it probably tomorrow when we talk about some upset alerts but two lane north texas is going to be so much fun the over underset at 66 and a half so you will see some points and the playmakers on both sides of the ball are just out of this world good you have land inside for uh north texas it's so much fun to watch and then just pretty much everyone on that two lane offense whether you want to talk about mario williams or makai hues at running back or julian flan or not julian flaming i'm forgetting his first name i apologize flaming on the uh offensive side for two lane there's so many fun guys to watch and cannot wait to see what they can do in this week the other thing i want to talk about is who can gain the most ground in the uh Heisman race and this kind of an interesting question because i don't necessarily want this to be who is out of the race that has to get into it or anything like that i think there is a couple of those players this week but there's one in particular that is not out of this race by any means dylan gabriel is one of them a very obvious answer here you get a rank big ten opponent at home you get a defense that is very for real a illinois can play very good football if you can continue to play that really really elite a level that he has the last two weeks he absolutely will join that uh two horse race at least in my mind that cam warden ash and jainty are running up top and then gary nuss myers a name to watch he hasn't necessarily put up crazy numbers and he's not necessarily going to be a guy that can match up to what cam ward has done numbers wise but he has a lot of big time moments coming forward you know a&m on the road this upcoming weekend alabama coming to town in a couple of weeks he plays two really good games in those he's going to be a hard name to overlook when you get down to the rest of the season and i think as we're getting deeper and deeper into the season i'm finding that there's a guy out there that could just turn it on in the last five weeks of the season and then find himself in new york there is not necessarily a run away three four guys that are going to be in new york at this point so maybe you know dylan gabriel doesn't play as clean towards the end of the season maybe cam ward makes a couple of mistakes and they drop some games and then a guy like gary nuss myer just finds his way into the fold because he starts playing elite football it's going to be a really interesting race but the guy that can actually gain the most ground is the leader i'll be totally honest this is one of the very few moments throughout this year and really maybe the last moment throughout the rest of the year that he is going to be the thing that everyone is watching he is going to be the thing that everyone is locked into on friday night when they face off against unlv over 200 yards he might just punch his ticket to you uh new york city he is such it's such an important spot for him and he knows that going into this game that this is the point where you kind of put your flag in that heisen race say that you are the on all's favorite and you deserve to be and it would be a huge moment to do it no doubt about that so cannot wait to see what he can do and weirdly enough the guy that has the most to gain this weekend in the heisen race is the guy that's already at the top of the heisen race and then we got to talk about the individual matchup of the week this kind of a fun segment because we don't talk about the games overall just kind of like nit picky things that i'm very interested to see the number one one is blake whore vath versus al golden the defensive coordinator for Notre Dame i don't know how you outright stop a triple option offense other than just having athletes flying all over the field which Notre Dame absolutely does have but the quarterback makes a lot of those decisions and that is going to be really interesting to see that can blake whore vath take that really good defense that al golden just called and counteract it with a right decision can al golden take uh really good decisions by blake whore vath and make him pay for it because they have everything covered it's going to be really interesting to watch and whenever you face a triple option offense if you don't have an elite defensive game plan you are going to get beat and we saw it a number of times in that jordan or a tech game when paul johnson was able to steal a couple that if you looked at the talent profile he had no business stealing those games but the triple option does some crazy things to teams and then you have ash and jainty i think this is a very very interesting one him against the entirety of the unlv defense because it does take 11 guys to stop this guy and all 11 guys are gonna have to play really good football on friday so it's one of those battles that yes it is one on 11 the one is just an absolute nightmare to deal with so i'm not necessarily saying this is uh i i think there are a lot of unlv defensive players that are more important than others but at the end of the day every single one of those 11 is going to meet him at some point on saturday and they got to be able to get him to the ground and not a lot of people have been able to do that so it's going to be really interesting to watch just him running at those 11 guys and how they react to that and then the biggest one for me is that lsuo line against the a and m d line cannot wait to watch these two units go at each other two of the best units in the scc on both sides of the ball and i think when you look at lsu very interesting kind of thing not great at run blocking incredible at past blocking so maybe a and m can kind of blow it up on the interior but their edge rushers aren't that effective maybe they can take advantage of some of the openings that there is in past pro and get home a couple of times but at the end of the day this is going to be a huge huge one and definitely one that probably is going to decide this game one way or the other if gary nuss myra has time i don't know if there's a defense in the country that is going to be able to stop him and then on the other side if he gets pressured pretty pretty much from the jump he's going to have a nightmare in front of him and he's going to have a lot of players in the back end of that a and m defense that can make him pay so cannot wait for that matchup that's one that you're just going to have to love to watch it i know for a fact that cole cubelick is going to love to watch this offensive line go to work on saturday but so much fun on this upcoming weekend and we didn't even get to a number of other games that we will get to tomorrow we got a and m uh a n m l s u i don't know why i blank there a and m l s u going to be a huge one no name uh navy we will break down in uh more complete terms uh illinois going to organ we will break down in more complete terms tomorrow a ton of other ones that i absolutely want to get to tomorrow so we will be back tomorrow but that'll do it for this edition of the gs mc
