But there's only one feeling like knowing your banker personally, like growing up with a bank you can count on, like being sure what you've earned is safe, secure, and local. There's only one feeling like knowing you're supporting your community. You deserve more from a bank. You deserve an institution that stood strong for generations. Bank of Colorado, there's only one. Number FDIC. I don't know if you know this, but when you don't have time to read The Washington Post, you can listen to it. Almost every article has a listening option. And right now, you can become a Washington Post subscriber for just $0.50 a week. It's an incredible deal. Stay on top of what's happening by signing up at washingtonpost.com/pod. And that's washingtonpost.com/pod. Wake Wakey. Sunday morning football is back in Germany. Let's go! An NFL network has an NFC clash, live from Allianz Arena in Munich. As the Giants square off against the Panthers, set your alarms, because this... Touchdown! It is Colorado's morning news. In these divisive times, it may be hard to see what some do in the service of others. Our friends at Home Field Advantage remind us that one significant way to heal divisions is through selfless acts and in and of the service of others. And every year, at this time, Home Field Advantage honors those who go beyond and help bring others with their annual celebration of service, which takes place November 11th and 12th. Joining us now is the founder of Home Field Advantage. It's Russ Laney. Gina, thank you for having me on. Absolutely. Tell us a little bit more about the overall mission for those who do not know when it comes to Home Field Advantage. The premise behind Home Field Advantage is that my life partner is also my business partner, my bride. And she and I just thought that about six years ago, it struck us that we were losing that edge, we thought that service helping others might be a unifying force. You needed something for people to rally around. And we thought that service could be that rallying point. Since you started Home Field Advantage, you find more people gravitating to Home Field Advantage because of your message about selfless service, finding a solitude and solace in that. I do think that there is a mindset that's starting to get traction, that you really need to take care of yourself and others at a deeper level if in fact we are going to regain Home Field Advantage. So, I think there is some momentum. We're excited to have the event coming up next week with the screening of the Sijon documentary on the 11th and then the celebration of service awards breakfast on the 12th. I think it'll give us a chance to really drive home the point that we need to be looking out for each other. Russ, you touched on these service awards. Walk us through the one that you talked about when it deals with an organization that supports our youth. Why is it so important to make sure that we're really uplifting and supporting our younger community at this time? We're really excited about this year's recipient, Gina, and it's Hillside Connection. They started as an organization that was trying to leverage the game of basketball to create opportunities for youngsters in Southern Colorado Springs. But they really matured as an organization. Their founder, Terrell Brown, was a high school star here in Colorado Springs, went on and played D-1 basketball and is now back, given back to his community. So it's to your point about the importance of why youth, we've got to establish a foundation of leadership. They're going to be the one that's going to carry the mantle going forward and we've got to make sure that they've got a solid foundation and character and that they're really giving the opportunity to grow. Talk about the DeBarry Award for Support of Frontline Forces. I actually love this year's recipient because this seems like this is a need with a lot of people who are struggling with food insecurity. Karen Sheriff Foodbank for Southern Colorado is this year's recipient. Coach DeBarry always talked about, it's amazing what you can accomplish if you don't worry about who gets the credit. Karen Sheriff Foodbank for Southern Colorado has like 292 partner agencies. It's amazing, they're reach and why they fall into this category is that one of their big strategic partners is Mount Carmel Veterans Service Center. Obviously the reach of Mount Carmel here in Colorado Springs and is now extending into Denver as moves south to Pueblo is really an incredible, incredible resource for our veteran community. And of course the Sijon Service Award, you've informed me about the legacy of him. Talk about who's being honored this year with that award. This year we're going to do it a little differently in that we're going to honor a legacy. It ties together with Mount Carmel this year's recipient is J. Chamino. He passed a few months ago but we want to honor his legacy, truly a business icon. And he is the definition of a humanitarian. He was a Marine but committed to helping the veteran community. It was his idea, it was his resources that made Mount Carmel a reality. And when you think about Lance Sijon and the courage and commitment that he displayed 74 days from when he went down until he passed away, that courage and commitment, you see that in J and the humility in which he conducted his business, very impressive, very impressive and very worthy recipient. I'm going to join folks like Gary Sinise, the actor, philanthropist, Steve Atwater, the Hall of Fame. Thank you for the Broncos. General Mark Well, she was currently the president of Texas A&M but a former Chief of Staff of the Air Force and coached to bury with last year's recipients and very humbled to add J to that list. Russ, give listeners all the details again if they're looking to purchase tickets for this home field advantage as celebration of service. Gen of the easiest way to get tickets is to go to our website, homefieldadvantage.team, homefieldadvantage.team, T-E-A-M. They can click on the links there for both the screening that will happen on the 11th, the evening of the 11th and then the breakfast on the 12th. We think it's a good way to maybe make your observance of Veterans Day a little bit more meaningful by participating in the celebration of service activities. Russ Laney, I consider you a very dear friend, the founder of Home Field Advantage. Russ Laney, thank you so much. Marty, right back at you, Gina. It's great to have you in Colorado. It's hard to believe it's already been two years. Thank you. I appreciate it. Time flies when you're having fun. How about it? Well, we really appreciate the two of you. Thank you so much. There's only one feeling like knowing your banker personally, like growing up with a bank you can count on, like being sure what you've earned is safe, secure and local.
