Opening their season last night at ball arena with a shaky loss falling to the thunder 102-287. And joining us now on the K-Wade Common Spirit Health Hotline to talk all about it is Alt2TV, nuggets play-by-play voice. It's Chris Marlowe. Chris, thank you so much for your time this morning. Okay, before we get into the not-so-good details of last night's nuggets loss, let's take a moment. Because it was pretty special to see the nuggets. And everyone at ball arena give the proper tribute to de Kumbay Matombo. Yes, it was. It can be one of my all-time favorites, certainly a legend here in Denver, even though he only played five years. A terrific basketball player or a great personality, a fantastic man, and that was really special. Well, and it was, obviously, nice to see the fans give so much love there to de Kumbay and the cool shirts that the team made with Nike, kind of the finger wave gesture. But then on the court, the thunder gave a bit of a finger wave to the nuggets and, you know, I asked Michael Milan about the poor shooting. He said, "We don't hit the panic button yet." But how concerned are you? Because Joker then followed up with, he doesn't think they're a very good shooting team outside of NPJ and Jamal, and I would throw his brother in there when he starts hitting. How concerned are we when Joker is saying they're not a great shooting team? Well, certainly there's a concern there. They are, you know, last year they shot pretty well, but they were way down in terms of attempts and makes. But this year without KCP, it's just a different kind of a lineup. Christian Brown, I thought, played well. He didn't shoot the three well, but everything else he did, I thought, fairly well. So I don't think that was, I mean, he scored 16 points, KCP averaged 10 points last year. But in terms of the spacing, that's really where the rubber meets the road. Joker, he had a triple double, but he was basically double and triple team the entire game. So he only ended up with 16 points. And I thought Dario Sharridge, he didn't get much playing time and didn't perform. He just didn't get a lot of shots and he'll play 11 minutes. And I'm expecting him to get 10, 15 points a game. So I think it's a matter of working it out. The nuggets is certainly a concern with the three point shooting because they, what were they? 3%. It was bad. It was really bad. I think they were able. I don't know. It wasn't good. Seven for 39 is not good. But not good. Yeah. Yeah. And I think if I'm most concerned, I'm thinking about, well, how do they get better? If they don't have really good three point shooters, like Malone animated and Yokech set, he just said it flat out. We only have two really great three point shooters. And even then Murray and Porter can go hot and cold. How do we get better at that? Is it coach them up? Is it get new guys? I don't see how we do that. But if you can't shoot the three, I don't know if there's wisdom in shooting a bunch of three. Then maybe you've got to move it in and kill them inside and kill them from the mid range and go to that strategy. I don't think we're there yet. I think it's still experimental, but I don't think having Russell Westbrook, I love what he does. And I love the things that he's good at. But having him stand out on the three point line and shoot threes, I don't think it's the recipe for victory. Chris, talking about the bench, they really struggled last night, 16 points. And as you mentioned, Westbrook, he only scored six points, two out of 10 from the field goals, only one out of four from the free throw line. Who needs to step up and improve when it comes to the bench play for the Nuggets this season? Well, he does. Westbrook does, I think he's very energetic, very charismatic, still fast, still jumps, still annoys the other team, rebounds, he's a great rebounding guard, and he speeds the game up fast break wise. So if you're having him do all those things, I think you're in good shape. When dribbling the air out of the ball or shooting threes, I don't think are his strengths. So I think it's up to the Nuggets to coach him up in terms of what we want to see out of you. I think Dario Sharich, as I mentioned, needs to get more touches. He needs to score more, too. I think he's basically an unselfish player that tends for, but he needs to let it loose a little bit more. I think, as you guys alluded to, Julian Strother, he's a guy that can get you 20 points. If he plays enough and gets enough touches, he was three and six. He looked pretty good, and he's developing defensive players. So I think he can be a guy. But the bench has to give you 25 or 30 points or more for the Nuggets to have a shot. Chris, real quick, and wrapping up with you. Obviously, it's early. It's just one loss. However, I had to ask the poll question this morning of, "Do you think the Nuggets can still win another championship?" Mainly because I saw a lot of editorial articles online from sports writers who are pretty quite skeptical about this Nuggets team. With all that being said, why is that? And it seems like at least KOA listeners think they can still do it again. You know, it's one game. Didn't the Avalanche lose four in a row to start the season, and now they've won four in a row? I just think there's certain things to be concerned about. There's a lot to fix. I think Michael Malone and his coaching staff do a great job in fixing things and making adjustments. And I think they'll be fine. You know, can they figure out the three-point shooting thing, hopefully? Can they do better defensively? I think the defense was pretty good last night. They held the highest scoring team. One of the highest scoring teams in the league averaged 120 last year to 102. That's pretty good. You hold every team to 102. You're going to win a lot of basketball games. So I think, you know, I hate to say this phrase. It's too early to panic, but it really is. And I think we'll get a better line. They play the Clippers tomorrow in the afternoon and then on a three-game road trip. And we'll see how it works out. Now gets play-by-play voice for altitude TV. It's Chris Marlow. Thanks, Chris.
