10 21 24 106 7 The Bull's Denise Plante on new Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees
But there's only one feeling like knowing your banker personally, like growing up with a bank you can count on, like being sure what you've earned is safe, secure, and local. There's only one feeling like knowing you're supporting your community. You deserve more from a bank. You deserve an institution that stood strong for generations. Bank of Colorado, there's only one. Member FDIC. Ladies and gentlemen, it is Colorado's Morning News. Marty Lenz-Gienicandek in our guest in studio, of course, is Denise Plant, who is our colleague and friend, who works on our sister country station, which you appreciate coming on. Four and four, 1981, by the way. Yes, yes, that's it. That's it. I was 14-15 when that was a hit. Every middle school dance, just going back and forth, once you put your arms around the wall, when urgent came on from that same album, those were a little more. That's when you had to start snapping the fingers. Yes, yes. And if you stopped, you'd lose your rhythm, right? White man over, right? The reason Denise joins us in studio, of course, is because we had the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction as well, and of course, the country music hall of fame medallion ceremony too. Yeah. So we want to talk about that. Isn't it crazy that foreigners just now getting inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? I think about that. Yeah. That's crazy. All of this, because that has been the running thing when we talk about it all the time is when you look at some of these who are just now getting inducted. I mean, I think it was-- who was it? Paul McCartney that introduced them, and literally said, "Oh, that was Peter Frampton." Peter Frampton. It was Rock and Daltry. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Well, thank you. Yeah, you're welcome. Robert Daltry from The Who said to Peter Frampton, "This is like 35 years in the making," so it really felt like this year's induction class was a lot of people that were long overdue for their inductions. Well, and Mark Ronzen, he actually took to Twitter or X, whatever it's called now, and recruited a bunch of other celebrities, including Jack Black and everybody, to say, "Hey, let's get foreigner," because his stepdad was part of foreigner, and so he said, "This is ridiculous. They're not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame." Totally ridiculous. Yeah. So they're there, and then Ozzy Osmore and I thought would be-- I mean, we think of Rock to think of Ozzy. Which is odd. Right. Right. Well, and that gets into the thing, Denise, with it. It should be the music hall of fame, and I pontificate too much about it, but share, getting in as well, share should be in a hall of fame. She should. You can debate the minutes to walk, but Brock, but she's somebody who's iconic and legendary and has had a long, long career, many decades in generation. That was one of the things my son, Wyatt, when I was watching it, he walked in, and he's like, "Why is Cher in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?" She's not Rock and Roll. I said, "Honey, she's part of the role," because I guess how they look at it, the foundation, they're looking for someone who's made an impression and something huge and impact on people's lives, and Cher, really, come on. Well, and she was wearing a Greg Almond for two weeks, you know, maybe she has that. We talked about this ceremony, which was five and a half hours long, my invention as well. Exactly. What were your thoughts on? So they did a lot of special guests, a lot of celebrities, a lot of collaboration. Cher came out with Duolipa. Is this their way of, I know, you made a face, and I kind of had the same face when I heard it. It's a way of trying to be a little more inclusive, maybe trying to draw some younger audience into this. Maybe, because I just didn't get the whole chemistry between, and first off, am I the only one who thought Duolipa was flat? Yeah. I'm like, "Up the key, a little girl." But I'm a fan of Duolipa. I love her music. I think she is absolutely stunning and beautiful, and she's a great entertainer because there's show business, and she knows the business part, too. But I just didn't get why she opened up of all people for Cher. Maybe they are trying to get that younger audience, and she's, you know, the it girl right now. It wasn't Jelly Roll didn't he introduce Audrey, was that it? Yes. And he was off key, too. Yeah. I love Jelly Roll. I love Jelly Roll. I am a huge fan of Jelly Roll, beautifully broken is his new album. Speaking of albums, you have to get it. There's so many amazing songs on there. And if Kelly Clarkson was also a special guest last night, she teamed up with Jelly Roll and did a version, a duet, collaboration with him. I am not okay. And that's his new song. Oh my gosh, that should be playing on every radio station right now. Her vocals. Incredible. When we talk about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, we love to talk about all the snubs because there's plenty of them. Yeah. Is there any that come top to mind for you that you're like, has to? Well, Cher was for a long time because she even said a couple years ago, I wouldn't take it for a million dollars if they gave it to me, and of course, she accepted it kindly last night after she sat. She said, gosh, it's easier to divorce two of my husbands than to get in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But I don't know. I thought Dolly Parton was another one last year that got nominated. And if anybody made an impact, especially coming from country music, I think she should have been in there a little bit earlier, but you don't think of Rock and Roll and Dolly Parton at the same time. No. So maybe that's why they waited. I don't think Toby Keith is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And I think he was finally accepted into the country music Hall of Fame, but that should have been done years ago, like when he was alive, so he could have appreciated it. So again, it should be the music Hall of Fame, but from that standpoint, said that take all kinds of artists from your person, you've done a lot of radio, not just country music. If anybody knows your background, the formats and the places you've worked. But from the country perspective, is there anybody right now that you think you mentioned Toby Keith, some others that are being overlooked, maybe because it is country in that genre? Oh, yeah. You know, I'll have to do my research, but if George Strait isn't in there, that would be surprising. Sure. Yeah. But again, you don't think of classic country and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the same time. But we really do have some amazing legends from country music that should be included. I know Willie Nelson is in there, and he's also because there's only a handful of people that have made it into the country music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So I think Chris Stapleston should be in there. Trisha Yearwood. I don't think Garth Brooks is in there. Speaking of, did you guys hear about all that drama that's going on with Garth Brooks right now? Yeah. Wow, that's absolutely craziness too. You never know what to believe or what's going to happen, but it's going to be a crazy ride. Yeah. So there's a lot of people I think. Loretta Lynn, was she in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Probably not. Country music, for sure. Denise, you have a personal experience with Toby Keith. I do. You tell us a little bit about it. Okay. So this is funny. I first moved here and I used to work at Camel Country in Phoenix. And so I have that country background and my mother-in-law was cooking for the Greeley Stampede. She used to be a caterer and so I would help her serve the food to the entertainers that would come. She cooked for the entertainers. I was only 25 years old and I served Toby Keith mashed potatoes. I was just giddy as beyond belief. And so I met him. He was full circle a couple years ago, well, longer than that, probably about four years ago, maybe five years ago. He was headlining the Cheyenne Frontier Days. And so I had a chance to introduce him. We were in his bus and I showed him the picture before it was digital, back when you actually had photographs. There's a Polaroid. Yeah. He couldn't believe how young we looked. He called his daughter in the bus and he said, "Look at this." And it was just one of those full circle moments where I served you mashed potatoes and now I'm introducing you. I want to pivot a little bit because I want to bring this on air. You shared a little off air that you are doing some fundraising and recognition for, obviously, somebody that's very close and special to you and you wanted to get the word out about this. Thank you, Margie. I really appreciate it. Yeah. Over the years I've helped raise a lot of money for different nonprofits volunteering my time and seeing events. And this is the one time I'm asking for help and in my mom's name, Janine Elson. We call it JK's little red wagon. My mom unfortunately passed December 3rd from stroke. A little she passed and she suffered a few strokes. It's kind of hard for me to talk about because I was so close to my mom. The past year of her life, I would sleep with her, I would put her in her wheelchair, brush her teeth, take care of her. She couldn't walk. And the doctor told her at the very beginning, "We're going to get you walking and you're going to pull all of your grandkids at the Denver Zoo." We all kind of laughed about that because all of our grandkids are in their 20s. We're like, "That's going to be a big red wagon." So my husband bought her a little red wagon miniature toy and set it by her so she would always have inspiration to try and walk again. Unfortunately that never happened. So when the American Heart Association asked me if I would like to try and make an impact and raise money in my mom's name, we named it JK's little red wagon. And in honor of her birthday, January 27th, I'm asking anyone, if possibly, if you could donate $127 to my fundraising event, it's going on for about seven weeks right now. You can check it out at Denise Plant Denver on Facebook if you'd like to donate or if you can't donate, if you could just share it to spread the news about stroke, the warning signs and of also heart disease. Thank you for letting me share that. You guys, I got a little joke. Absolutely. Of course. No, thank you. Thank you for sharing that as well. Thanks for joining us in the organization, a great organization too. You hear her on 106, 7, the bowl, Denise Plant, thank you so much for joining us in the studio. This is fun. Thank you. Thank you. Love it. Thank you. There's only one feeling like knowing your banker personally, like growing up with a bank you can count on, like being sure what you've earned is safe, secure and local.
