10 11 24 KOA Broncos Color Analyst Rick Lewis previews the Los Angeles Chargers game
And the train will keep on rolling here at home for the Broncos taking on the Chargers Sunday as they look to get their fourth win in a row Before we get into this do you play any yard birds my friend when you tour with your group By the way, thank you. Thank you. No, we play. We play some blues Gary Clark's junior color or two and that one of my guitar players is a One of the best blues guitar players in the world guy named Vince Converse who's toured for 30 years with BB King and buddy guy and those guys and and so we play some of his originals and We play a little bit everything cool. Yeah. Yeah, we play a wide variety of music. Nice. Nice. We're the perfect festival band Perfect festival and perfect festival. We are we were built for festivals great absolutely true I could do a whole segment talking music with you for I know we could man, but now luckily we have no dead rockers So that's good. I got a text yesterday. Oh, yes, Cole and he said, can you come out tomorrow morning? I said We're talking Broncos today. Okay, great talking Broncos host of the Rick Lewis so on one oh three five the box and Broncos color analyst Rick Lewis Rick, okay, so let's just start overall energy I mean, what are we feeling right now currently three and two is it too early to get a little excited here? No, I don't think so. If you're a fan, I think I think you have permission to get excited because This has been a big turnaround, you know, Sean Payton came in changed the culture last year and now they're benefiting from that this year Nobody expected this to happen this early right with a rookie quarterback The last three teams they played have lots of injuries to keep players and they've benefited from that as well And now you see Derek cars out next week. Yeah, play the Saints into Orleans next week Derek cars out Things are breaking the right direction for the Broncos and I tell you what fans have had enough losing And so yeah, go ahead get excited jump on the bandwagon You know this you and Dave know this better than anybody's so true and they talk about the NFL talent this that and that really It's a game of attrition. It's just staying healthy And if you can stay healthy more than likely you're gonna have a decent run as we see with these teams speaking of which I know that Justin Herbert is coming off an injury and I think did the Chargers have a bi week last week So did he get an extra week to heal? Yeah, they did they had a bi week He's still dealing with that ankle and in fact, he's played through it. He wears a brace on it He's practiced this week still with the brace. So I'm not sure what we'll see from Justin Herbert We know he's very talented. Would you see the defense trying to say let's see how good that ankle is? What kind of pressure we can put absolutely you'll see maybe if they can kind of get him Back on his heels and try to get him running around a little bit You know, they don't score many points They have one of the worst offenses in the NFL and they have maybe the best defense in the NFL So these two teams kind of mirror each other with two really good defenses two offenses that struggle The difference is they have a veteran quarterback and like I said early as you said he is banged up In fact their team's pretty banged up coming into this game Which is interesting because that bi-week you think they would have had time to feel a little more refreshed going into this game Yes, seems like the Chargers are actually the favorites in this. How do you what are you looking at? I find that hard to believe. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you could see that to Vegas What does Vegas know that we don't always well? They don't believe in the Denver Broncos yet You know, I think the biggest factor is the rookie quarterback because he's been up and down like all rookie quarterbacks usually do I think that's the factor. I think they're looking at that going well Chargers have Justin Herbert. They got bone X. Which version of bone X are we gonna see this week? So I was surprised to see that too three point dogs at home. Yeah, I'd I'd take the points if I had a betting app endorsement anyway Looking at this so this is this is the next test next iteration next evolution with bone X And it looks like the offense got I don't know if you want to say took the training those off But they looked better this week, but you're right. They're facing a much better defense this time What do you anticipate seeing from a Broncos? Oh, I know the defense will be ready to play What he anticipates seeing from bone X and in the game plan this well, what's really helping him is they're able to run the ball Giovanni Williams Reverted back to the old Giovanni Williams they ran the ball in the second half against the Jets And then they ran the ball well last week against the Raiders And so if you can run the ball and play defense like they've been playing defense You can win with a rookie quarterback and that's what they've been doing So they have to keep doing that which gives a bone X a chance to continue to develop Which he's doing by the way, I think bone X is getting better From week to week and hopefully if that continues and the defense keep playing like this you may make a little A little playoff run, you know, you can get in the playoffs playing like this even with a rookie quarterback Rick as a fellow Michigander. Are you a Jim Harbaugh fan? For some reason, I don't like Jim Harbaugh, okay, you know, just being honest with you I think it's like pineapple on pizza thing. You either like him or you don't He's better than us. He's not a likable guy And there's a personal reason for that too And I'll tell you guys off the year something that happened with a friend of mine that worked there in in that Athletic department and that kind of sticks in my craw. And so I'm not pulling for Jim Harbaugh. No, well, sorry I say this is anecdotal But I lived in San Francisco when he was at the coach of Stanford and then the Niners and he was a little testy and Contesty with a lot of my media brother and we're doing more the sports thing and then remember thinking dude We're not here to be your adversary. We're here to try to advocate or you know share with he wins everywhere He goes and then he wears out his welcome within a couple years and it'll probably help what happened with the Chargers It's been like that everywhere. He's gone. He's just one of those guys that he's he's not warm and fuzzy He's pretty hard to warm up to you've got to be excited. You I know you're excited for every con I know you we got to let you go, but seeing this run seeing this could be four I'm sure you're pretty pumped up for this Sunday. Oh, I'm pumped for every son But just seeing this now having what you've gone through the dregs and everything having one I've gone through personally. Yes No, it's been a tough run, you know, and it's time to turn it around and and as you said Gina Yeah, let's get excited get excited for this football team because they are now building something And if bonyx can be the quarterback Sean Payton thinks he can be they've got something So I think they've got a good shot to be a playoff team this year Let's see another home win on Sunday Broncos ticking on the Chargers and power field mile high Sunday our KOA coverage begins at 8 a.m. With Broncos warm up continuing to kick off to oh five Sunday afternoon Broncos color analyst host of the Rick Lewis show on 1 0 3 5 the Fox. It's Rick Lewis. Thanks Rick. All right guys. Thank you
