10 10 24 Voice of the Rockies Jack Corrigan discusses return of manager Bud Black
us today and let us know in the comments below this week. It is Colorado's morning news. Marty lens, Gina Gondek. Good morning, buddy black getting an extension. The family playoffs are underway in the roof of the Tampa Bay Area Stadium completely blows off during Hurricane Milton. Yeah, all this just some of the headlines that we have going on in the world of baseball right now and joining us now on the Kway comments, Beard Health hotline is voice of the Rockies. It's Jack Corgan. Jack. Thank you so much for your time as always our lead baseball expert Chad Bauer joining us in studio tonight. Well, I'm glad to be here. I'm glad to be here with you. I'm glad to be here with one that's most top of mind because the videos are absolutely so dramatic in Tampa right now, or I guess I should say in Saint Pete. Have you been to Tropicana field before? Can you tell us a little bit about the infrastructure of what we've seen and why it possibly blew off as easily as it seemed with Hurricane Milton? Well, yeah, because it wasn't supposed to. I mean, it was supposed to have the ability for the handle of baseball perspective. It's probably number 30 of the 30 stadiums in baseball. It's it's a tough place in that regard. It was built in the early 90s. I've been there plenty of times. And in fact, the Rockies are due to open the season in Tampa Bay next March. And so they'll have some work to do to get that roof ready to go again because on March 27th, we're supposed to be playing baseball against the raised there. It still is a little surprising that it not just that there were tears in it, but I mean, it basically destroyed it from the videos I've seen. And Jack, when it comes to on the field, the Rockies announced Bud Black, the manager getting a one year contract extension. So as we look towards 2025, how do you see the roster shaping up? Do you see more kind of low end starting picture signings? Do you see any trades or how do you see things working out before spring training next year? Yeah, you know, it'll be an interesting off season, Chad Giza. Yeah, there are there are some moves that need to be made. I think a lot of the starting pitching aspect of it will be Antonio Sensatella and and of course, Airman Marcus being back and healthy again. I think the Rockies in terms of of trades or free agent movement in the off season, it may be more for a bat because I think while the Rockies have some good young offensive players of getting their feet wet, getting more exposed to the big leagues, you can see in the postseason here how a veteran guy who doesn't strike out as much gets the ball put in play with some frequency really helps an offense. And I would see the Rockies actually in this off season, possibly going more in that direction. Paul Goldschmidt being an option. You know, that'd be interesting. I don't know what what gold he's going to do. Some people think he's looking for one last big contract. And I don't think he's going to get it. But he would be an interesting guy to consider for sure. He can still play first base as well, although Michael Toli is pretty good defensively. It would be players like that, I think, that the Rockies would have some interest in or some rising guys and some package trade, if you will. I'm glad you referenced the playoffs, Jack, because I look at the Kansas City Royals last year, they lost a hundred plus games. The Rockies lose an under this year. Can't the Rockies follow that model and get into the playoffs next year? Is there a parallel or corollary to that to seeing what the Rockies could do? You know, I think, Marty, it is a pretty good parallel, or you go back to the Diamondbacks, lost 110 games. And then two years later, we're in the World Series. So you have to keep moving forward. You have to hit on the right kind of trades. The Royals were able to sign some free agent pitching and Waka and Lugo. But that, unfortunately, is not an avenue that usually works for the Rockies because of playing here at Altitude, if you will. But I can see the same kind of arc. That's part of the reason why they brought Buddy back. But he's always been a great teacher in a steady hand. And they think as they move forward, stay in the course with him at the at the helm is the right way to go. Jack, obviously, we wish we were talking to you on different terms with the Rockies and the playoffs instead. But do you have any predictions going forward? I mean, I could tell you as a fellow Michigander that Detroit is just electric right now with the Tigers and Lions doing pretty well. Yeah, you know, I had some friends from Cleveland call me the other day. And I said, well, they better win game three speaking of the Guardians because if Detroit can get up two to one, then they've got Derek Schubel needed, you know, if necessary for game five. To me, he's the best pitcher certainly in the American League. This year, he might be the best pitcher in baseball. It's funny how momentum goes. The Tigers have great momentum. The Mets are already into the NLCS because they had great late momentum. Just like Rock Cobra back in 2007, it's not just to get to the playoffs, but get to the playoffs with momentum. And it always seems like those are the clubs that find a way to get to the top. So you keep rooting for your Tigers, Gina. Hey, it was really funny, though, because when I was in town was the day the Rockies beat the Tigers. So I guess that was really fun to see. And yeah, and that was the day when Derek Schubel started. So that was real good for us that day. Jack, but momentum is next day's pitching, right? Lake greater old Weaver. Yeah. Yeah, you're exactly right, Marty. And that's well, although it's funny now. I mean, how many times in these playoffs that we've seen the opposite, you know, both teams sometimes use seven, eight pitchers. You know, they're going that way. Yeah, it's next day starting pitcher. And we're going to have eight of them or something like that, because it's been crazy in that regard. Yeah, the playoffs have been fun to watch. You always enjoy catching up with you, Jack. And I'm glad that Bud Black is back for another season. So look forward to hopefully having success next year. Thank you, Jack. All right, guys. Thanks for the call. Voice of the Rockies Jack Corrigan 756 Colorado's
