Quintin Robertson, Director, Reidsville Parks & Recreation 11.08.24

Mike Moore media I'm talking to Quentin Robertson director of Readsville Parks and Recreation. Hey Quentin, how's it going? Hey how you doing this morning Mike? I'm doing well yeah getting into all of those winter activities so bring us up today what's happening? Like parts of recreation, all what's happened, some great things going on and right now we still have our open gym right now from 9 to 1 o'clock Monday through Thursday we want to get active we have an open gym pickleball and we see that everyone is still getting active I know that it's getting a little cooler now so our outdoor course or or actually in the process of being renovated so those that are like to play a little bit pickleball that's the gymnasium is available for them to do that as well so and outside of that might we still have a lot of small events going on that's coming up in November I think we just finalized the registration for our party and painting events for our kids and youth that will be hosted at the Reads of Parks and Recreation Department and with our athletic department right now I want to say that basketball is available have open registration now until December the second so those are the rest of ages from 7 to 13 and we have a super team lead that goes up to 18 so the rest of them you also have the ability to you know to join one of our weeks as well throughout the winter and just like always our our care facility is open we have a lot of classes going on not doing this one on Tuesday we hope to talk to you they have a like home and move tonight coming up and then also I'll tell on a garris will also be performing and doing something for our Christmas event and Thanksgiving holidays as well mm-hmm wow I was trying to take notes but you're you're clicking them off there is there's a lot a lot going on yeah and I'm actually on your Facebook page Reads of Parks and Recreation want to go back to that kids party and paint November 23rd that looks like fun yeah yeah so our recreation supervisor doing yacht or be hosting that event there and I think what it is if I'm getting the group of young kids and kids together to come out and be creative and kind of go through a paint process there and just be using the creative juices there mm-hmm yeah yeah and you mentioned basketball registration and that's open through our ends November 18th but you're covering lots of ages there too maybe maybe hit that again too for those that didn't catch that perhaps so basketball is one of a great sport we get a lot of kids that actually play it so we age range from the younger seven to nine that's an age group division that you're able to play and then we have a 10 to 12 age group and then we have a super team which is 12 or 13 and up and stops at 8 17 so we have all those categories and then we also have a immensely that we'll possibly start back up pretty soon going into the spring as well so that's well the great sport to kind of get involved the youth and the older adults are very involved in basketball so we have a tremendous great abundance of guys and and leaves and corporate guys and you know locals that like to participate in our basketball leaves mm-hmm yeah yeah always popular yeah and as I said I'm looking at your Facebook page your facilities I'm looking at a picture of the gym the gymnasium here and you've got some wonderful facilities there in reads we're having you for all kinds of things we do we do what we had the liberty we doing our basketball course this summer and we put in the kind of with me design there to make it look like a darker and a light thing but it's still a multi-purpose we have pickleball lines their volleyball as well we host a lot of open gym play we'll allow some of the local high schools and private schools to come in and use it the gym for gym classes and teach there as well so we want to keep our facilities up nice but we also want to make sure that we have the the most state-of-the-art look and that draws people in and also be a place that's still where they were you know our community continues yeah yeah looks great what happens this time of the year at Lake Readsville and some of your outdoor venues like that trails and things like that Quinton oh we do get a lot of attention I've failed always you year-round we definitely have to go out there and make sure we maintain those trails and make sure we keep them up keep any fallen trees keep them leaves kind of blown off so people can kind of find their way in and out make sure they can continue to go through and return safely and then we also still have those avid fishers that goes out down the lake every day and fish and compete I think we just finished our our big longer competition that ended in November then as we speak we're getting ready to start up by dozen for those kind of seasons I will be started pretty shortly there and if you're interested to become a stuff I remember you just need a call of the young I will like all visit a lot of applications and that number there is three three six three four nine four seven three eight and you can speak on this down on this Amanda there and I can get you all set up the one that I'm the kind of applications there so and then we'll be have hosting soccer for adult soccer and soccer leads that goes on there and I thought the field how is the lake we'll start up on Sunday Sunday mornings and so we have a lot going on still out of the lake and looking forward to a lot of splendid things that we can kind of put together yeah sure okay well I know they're I know you just had all kinds of Halloween things on the trail and camp scary woods that I go well everybody everybody gets scared enough yeah it was awesome awesome man I enjoy I enjoy this probably one of the fun events that we get the hose out at the lake we get to decorate our trail as a haunted trail and so many families and kids and people are coming through and they get to drop them off at the bottom of the trail and they get to walk through it and we get a great round of applause to all the volunteers and help in the families that want to come out and help participate and miss Donna my store supervisor as well put on a great show of putting it all all helping putting all the ideas together and her family's involved so it's become a great great experience that we get to do for the city of regional and so along with we showed a good movie to ghost busters which is always the classic where they were making your origin so this is a good title goes to two pieces together and be at the least something fun and and enjoyable for our community yeah okay all right well anything else we need to mention what might I think we kind of ran down the rendition of everything but we're excited for the spring hope there are some hopeless new improvements that we were working on to get done so we were building some more information soon so we hope to everyone that that it has been a great thing given the happy holidays
