Gina Gondek and Chad Bauer in for Marty Lenz this morning on Colorado's Morning News, a busy weekend for Voice of the Bus Mark Johnson tonight, the basketball games and the buffs hosting Northern Colorado. And tomorrow in football, Colorado visits Texas Tech. Mark joining us live now on the KOA Common Spirit Health Hotline. Mark, I guess let's start with hoops. After getting off to a slow start Monday night, what have the bus been working on in practice so they'll get out of the shoot a little bit better when they play Northern Colorado tonight? Well, Chad, I guarantee you they're working on turnovers. They came out, I mean, they were a pastry factory, early in that ball game, they had like, I don't know, it was the 13 turnovers, the first half, first four times they brought the ball down on offense, they turned it over, and I thought Chad Boyle was going to spontaneously combust and they're in the sidelines, so they finally cleaned it up in a second half at once. So when they scrimmage Texas here a couple of weeks ago, his teams will do before the regular season, they had 23 turnovers in that game. So a team that's essentially a new team is learning to play together, talented, long, I think it'll be a very good defensive team, ultimately, they're going to be a very nice team. So they're still kind of feeling things out and going through some growing pains. Mark, who are the best standouts that you're seeing on the team right now? Well, I think that there's a couple of guys, and that's a great question to you, because remember that they had three guys who were drafted into the NBA off the team last year and the three other guys that jumped to graduate and jumped in transfer, poorly graduate transfers. And so I think when you look at some of the guys out there that are kind of intriguing to me, there's a freshman on this team from Slovakia named Ronchick, Sebastian Ronchick. And I think he's a potential NBA guy, he showed us some flashes the other day. The young man who transferred in from Colorado to Mesa, I think had a real nice game at 30 points of six rebounds the other night. So there's some guys that do kind of catch your eye early on. We don't know who kind of the cornerstones are going to be like we did a year ago with guys like KJ Simpson and Cody Williams and Tristan De Silva, who went out of the NBA. You knew those guys, you kind of became in the game out. I think that's going to be part of the learning process here in the non-conference part of this schedule. And it'll be a quick turnaround for you, Mark, headed to Lubbock for the Texas Tech Game and the buffs coming off a bi-week. What advantage does that give them going into tomorrow's game? Well, just to tell you, I was I was scared to do the basketball game tonight because of the weather you guys have been talking about. I can't make it now. I love it. So I got somebody filling in on the radio and television site for me tonight. And so I'll be down doing football tomorrow, but yeah, that's this is a big ball game for Colorado here. They said it's six and two. Number 20 in the college football playoff ranking that came out just a couple of days ago. Number 21 of the AP poll, they're in the running down for the Big 12 championship. Texas Tech just went in last week when the buffs had a bi and beat undefeated Iowa State in Ames, Iowa. And so this is a very dangerous team. They're a very good team on offense. They've got some liabilities on the defensive side. They're opportunistic. They force a lot of turnovers, but the buffs should be able to move the ball against them tomorrow. I love it. Mark, it sounds like Chad mentioned obviously the bi week, but for coach prime, it wasn't really a bi week. They were still grinding away. Yeah. And in fact, when we did a show yesterday and I were talking a little bit about that a lot of times in a bi week, they'll take three days, maybe off like a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. That was not the case. He gave them Sunday or Saturday off. They had a very early workout on Friday for an understanding late workout on Sunday. So even though they might have been able to go back and see family in the middle of the day on Friday, they had to be back on Sunday morning and so it was, it was a great week. I think the what that indicates, Gene is the fact that we are talking about a team that's got a chance at the college football playoffs that's got a chance to the big 12 championship. And so it's, it's about business. Yeah, we're going to, we're going to catch our breath briefly here during this bi week, but we got to get back to it very quickly because this is a pretty darn good football team. We're looking at here in Boulder. It's ranked 21st nationwide, but coach Primus said he would prefer that they be unranked. And why does he say that? Well, I think it's that idea of not getting drunk in your own wine, you know, when you start getting accolades, everyone starts going, Hey, maybe we're pretty good. And I think sometimes young college athletes will have a tendency to do that. So I think that's what he was getting at there that, you know, go ahead and continue to doubt us. We've proved people wrong. And I think that's what he was probably tapping into. Well, Mark, you're probably pretty happy that the game is taking place in Texas where it's going to be sunny and upper sixties come tomorrow. Oh, there's no doubt. Yeah. I mean, it might be an interesting one if we were in Boulder tomorrow, wouldn't it? Absolutely. And real quick, Mark, and wrapping up with you too. Shoulder healthy. Is everyone rested up? Do we see any injuries that we're expecting come tomorrow? No, I don't think there's anybody, but even right now, and I think Shane coasters, they're starting defensive tackle. I isn't expected to play tomorrow. And so I don't think we're going to see him, but outside of that, you know, it's that old line. We know in football all the time. And to this point of season, nobody's really healthy. And there's a difference between being injured, being hurt. There are guys right now dealing with some bumps and bruises, but they're about as healthy as they possibly can be when you're eight games into a college football season. Voice of the boss, Mark Johnson. And thanks so much for joining us this morning. All right, guys. Take care.
