Discover the power of a soft answer in this powerful morning devotion. Responding out of anger will get you in trouble every time, but holding your peace and expressing the truth gently will save you from intense conflict.

(dramatic music) - Good morning, I wanna reach up the dear from 1st Samuel chapter 25 verse 26. Now my Lord, as surely as the Lord lives, and you yourself live, since the Lord has kept you from murdering and taking vengeance into your own hands, let all your enemies and those who try to harm you be as curse as neighbor is. On this morning, just what I wanna talk about, a soft answer turns away anger. I know you are going to be blessed. ♪ Lead me, come on and guide me ♪ ♪ Along the way ♪ ♪ Lord, if you lead me ♪ ♪ I cannot strain ♪ ♪ Lord, let me walk ♪ ♪ Each day with thee ♪ ♪ Lead me, O Lord, lead me ♪ Come on, where's the saints at this morning? ♪ Lead me and guide me ♪ ♪ Along the way ♪ ♪ Lord, if you lead me ♪ ♪ I cannot strain ♪ ♪ Lord, let me walk ♪ ♪ Each day with thee ♪ Thank you, Holy Ghost. ♪ Lead me, O Lord, lead me ♪ Father God, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, man past the Amy, we join our faith, which are wonderful people this morning. That's toning into this broadcast, minister to them, strengthen them. My prayer for them is that their faith would grow stronger and stronger. We pray that their relationship with you would grow stronger and stronger. We pray, God, that they would recognize the voice of the Holy Spirit coming through the Scriptures. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word, cost them to have strong faith, God. Increase their wisdom, increase their knowledge, increase their understanding, their love for the Word of God, their hunger for the Word of God. Don't allow the cares of this world and the loss of other things to come in and choke the Word of God out of them. But Lord, I pray in the name of Jesus, everyone under the sound of being past Amy's voice, we pray that they would bring forth fruit some 30, some 60 and some 100 fold. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray, somebody say amen. Good morning to you, saints of the Most High. So glad to be back with you. As we continue our series on this morning, overcoming adversity, of course, we are continuing in the life of David. And on this morning, we are talking about a soft answer turns away anger. You know, Proverbs chapter 15, verse one says, a soft answer turns away anger, but harsh words stir it up. You know, if someone's nasty to you, just makes you wanna respond and react in a certain way. You know what I'm talking about? Between husbands and wives, they know what I'm talking about too. So I wanna pick up where we left off at on yesterday and come right to 1st Samuel chapter 25, verse 19 through 28. Listen to the Word of the Lord. And set to her servants. Remember Abigail now, she's trying to, she's about to go and show honor to David, even though a wicked foolish husband was very nasty and unkind and unfair in his dealings with David. And Abigail have got the news from a servants that there's gonna be trouble if you don't do something. And Abigail is, Abigail is a Proverbs 31 woman. She is a woman of integrity, only God knows her. She ended up in that mess with the man called neighbor. Some of you women can relate. Amen, the woman is very wise and the husband, oh, help us Jesus. And then on the other hand, then on the flip side, there's a man who are very decent and have integrity and everything like that. But the wife, Lord, help us Jesus, right? So watch this now. So she said to her servants, go on ahead, I will follow you shortly. But she didn't tell her husband, neighbor, what she was doing because he would, he would cost him to get killed, had he known. His neighbor's foolish. Watch this. As she was riding her donkey into a mountain ravine, she saw David and his men coming to water. And David have one thing on his mind. David have one thing on his mind, revenge. Who is this, who this neighbor think he is to insult me? I got something coming for him. So David was about to make a massive mistake. He was about to take matters into his own hands. As I read many of your comments, talk about how you can relate, how you wanted to take matters into your own hands. Someone said, wow, I was getting ready to let, I was getting ready to turn it loose on someone pretty much. But the word of God can stop you and the word helps you. And the reason we share the word of God and make it simple, because we have to live by it. We experience in the same exact things you experience it. Sometimes we want to take revenge and we want to row back and you understand, defend and straighten people out. But the Holy Ghost said, no, I got this. You got to handle it differently. And watch this. So as she was riding on her donkey into a mountain ravine, she saw David and his men coming to water. David's got murder on his mind. David had just been saying, a lot of good it did to help this fellow. We protected his flocks in the wilderness and nothing he owned was lost or stolen, but he has repaid me evil for good. This is David and I, you know David's, he's got some serious revenge on his mind and he can pull it off, 'cause he is a war general, watch this. He said, may God strike me and kill me if even one man of his household is still alive by tomorrow morning. David said, I'm gonna wipe the, I'm gonna wipe neighbor out. They ain't gonna be left, no, there won't be a single person left breathing. David's got revenge on his mind, but Abigail is a wise woman full of the love of God, full of integrity, full of godly character. She's about to calm this, this anointed man down who's about to blow it. Watch this now. When Abigail saw David, she quickly got off her donkey and bowed low before him. Look at, look at this, just think about it. David's, I mean, he is in a rage. He is angry, he's just been insulted. This is the man who took out Goliath. This is the man who fought all of Israel's battles and won, defeating their enemies and subduing them and conquering them on every side. And now there is somebody who have insulted him and no one can stop David when he goes after a prey. If he goes to war, no one can stop him because he is anointed to win. He is anointed for battle. David said he, God, he teaches my hands to war so that a ball steal is broken by my hands. I can leap over wall and run through a troop. You don't wanna come in contact with someone like this. So David meant business, but he was about to make a mistake because God said vengeance is mine. David wanted to take matters into his own hands. Watch this, so when Abigail saw him, the Bible says she bowed low before him. She fell out his feet. Wow, Lord of mercy. She fell out his feet and said, I accept all the blame in this matter, my Lord. Please listen to what I have to say. In other words, Abigail, Abigail say, you know what? I'm gonna take the blame. I'm gonna do whatever it takes to calm David down from making a terrible mistake that he would regret for the rest of his life. You know, it's so, it's so hard. When you know you weren't the one who caused the trouble, it was her husband, but this woman is so wise. It's better sometimes to just take the fall and say, you know what? I'll take the blame, I'll do whatever I can to bring peace into the situation. Some people are not willing to do it, but sometimes you just gotta take the blow. Come on, somebody, watch this now. Listen to what she said. She said, I know Nable is a wicked and ill-tempered man. Please don't pay any attention to him. He is a fool. Just as his name suggests, Nable means fool, but I never even saw the young man you said. Abigail said, David, you know what? I'll take the blame. Please, my husband's a foolish man. I did not realize you sent young men to ask for some stuff to help sustain y'all. Had I seen it, I would have done something about it. Watch what she said. She said, now, my lord, watch this. As surely as the lord lives and you yourself live, since the lord has kept you from murdering and taking vengeance into your own hands, let all your enemies and those who try to harm you be cursed as Nable is. And the reason she can say that because, look, David's the lord's anointed. If you touch David, ah, God will mess you up. Come on, somebody, because David's his man. Not only that, the Messiah, the lord Jesus Christ, is coming through the lineage of David. And Nable was being used by the devil himself. Are you listening to me? So David, so David is being halted by a wise woman whose name is Abigail. He is being halted by a woman whose name is Abigail. Abigail is a proverbs 31 woman. She is full of integrity, full of godly character. And she is stopping David from making one of the worst mistakes he could make in his entire life. Watch this. She said, and here is a present. Here is a present that I, your servant, have brought to you and your young man. She brought him something to bless him and his men. She said, please forgive me if I have offended you in any way. The lord will surely reward you with a lasting dynasty. For you are fighting the lord's battles, and you have not done wrong throughout your entire life. Abigail said, I'll take the fall. I'll take the blame. David, you got better sense than this. You got a good head on your shoulders, David. God have used you to win some of the greatest battles we have ever seen fought for the nation of Israel. You defeated Goliath, and you conquered the Philistese over and over again. David, don't do it. Don't do it. God worked through Abigail to halt David in his quest for revenge, a soft answer. Turns away anger, thank God for Abigail. You need some people like Abigail's in your life. Who will slow you down and say, nope, you're making a mistake. Don't go in this direction. I thank God. I thank God for my wife past Amy, many a times. God used in a mighty way to help me realize, you know what? Leaving in God's hands. And Abigail was used mightily by the Lord to halt David in his quest for revenge. I believe the Holy Spirit is sending this broadcast to you this morning like an Abigail to tell you a soft answer turns away anger. Don't give into an argument. Don't do it. Don't you do it. Pull back. Let God defend you. Let God fight your battle. I know they did you wrong. They did you, and you got every right to defend yourself. But in the eyes of God, he wants you to put your trust in him. Can someone lift your heads to heaven and say, God, I give this entire situation to you. I'm not going to take matters in my own hands. I'm not going to react with anger. And just say what I feel like saying. I'm going to hold it back. The Bible says a fool utters all his mind. But a wise man keeps it in till afterwards. Come on, let's pray. Father, God, in the name of Jesus Christ, you see how some of your people have been treated? You see how the enemy is stirring them up. But I pray for them this morning. Meant past Amy, join our faith and recover your people that they would not react in the flesh, that they would not respond out of anger, that they would not go for revenge, but they would leave matters into your own hands. Because your words as vengeance as mine says to the Lord, I will repay. Thank you, God, for hearing and answering this prayer. In Jesus' name we pray, someone say, amen.
