A.P. News. Good morning. I'm Ed Donny. Today's total solar eclipse is only expected to last about four minutes and 28 seconds. There's been a population boom in an area from Texas to Maine that provides the best views of the eclipse. Rebecca Amman is in Dallas and is worried about clouds. I've heard that high clouds are not as bad as low clouds. So I would say I'm definitely nervous, but I'm trying to just think of it as I've never been to Texas. An economy professor Heather Appleby at Dallas College says there will be a thin layer of high level clouds, but they're thin, serious clouds, so they're transparent. You can see through them a little bit. They've been describing it like a veil, so you can see through it, but is it an ideal condition? No, but you're also not clouded out. Skies are clear for the eclipse in northern New England. On his social media site, former president and current presidential candidate Donald Trump says it should be up to states to establish rules on abortion. In a video posted to True Social, Trump says he's proud to take credit for the US Supreme Court's decision to end Roe versus Wade, and that whatever the states decide must be the law of the land. Many states will be different. Many will have a different number of weeks or some will have more conservative than others, and that's what they will be. At the end of the day, this is all about the will of the people. He did not lay out a timeline for when he believes abortion should be banned, but he did express support for the availability of in vitro fertilization treatments. Like Ronald Reagan, I am struggling in favor of exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother. President Biden's campaign says Trump's endorsing every single abortion ban in the states, including those with no exceptions. Trump has been trying to thread the needle on this issue. In the video, he told Republicans they must follow their heart, but remember, you must also win elections. I'm Jennifer King. In New York, actor Jonathan Majors was sentenced to probation, avoiding jail time for assaulting his ex-girlfriend. This is AP News. I'm Seth Zutel, and this is Markets in a Minute. Stocks are holding steadier on Wall Street after last week's rollercoaster ride left them just shy of their records. The S&P 500 was little changed in the first hour of trading Monday. The Dow edged up 16 points. That's less than one-tenth percent. The NASDAQ composite was up one-tenth percent. U.S. listed shares of Taiwan semiconductor were up two and a half percent. The White House pledged to provide up to $6.6 billion so the semiconductor giant can expand the facilities it's already building in Arizona. The focus on Wall Street has been on interest rates, and when the Federal Reserve will lower them. Hot reports on inflation and the economy have forced traders to delay forecasts for when relief on rates could arrive. More reports on inflation and corporate profits are due out later this week. Seth Zutel, New York. JP Morgan, Che CEO Jamie Dimon expects the economy to continue to grow, but is worried about inflation threats that includes wars in Ukraine and Gaza. I'm Ed Donahue, AP News.
