AP News. I'm Ed Donaghue. Today, the Arizona Supreme Court ruled the state can enforce a long dormant law criminalizing all abortions, except when a mother's life is at stake. It predates Arizona's statehood. The 1864 law provides no exceptions for rape or incest, but allows abortions if a mother's life is in danger. Jennifer and James Crumbly were each sentenced in Michigan to 10 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter. Their son shot and killed four students at Oxford High School in 2021. This is Judge Cheryl Matthews. These convictions confirm repeated acts or lack of acts that could have halted an oncoming runaway train about repeatedly ignoring things that would make a reasonable person feel the hair on the back of their next standoff. The Crumbly's are the first parents convicted in a U.S. mass school shooting. Norfolk Southern has agreed to pay $600 million in a settlement related to the fiery train derailment last year in East Palestine, Ohio. More from the AP's Josh Funk. This was better than the works and was headed toward the potential trial this fall. And so it's clear the railroad wanted to settle this before it got to trial. This $600 million settlement is relatively small compared to the $3 billion in revenue. The railroad just reported in the first three months of this year. If approved, the agreement resolves all class action claims within a 20 mile radius of the derailment. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and British Foreign Secretary David Cameron are urging Congress to approve new military aid for Ukraine. Cameron had spoken yesterday in Florida with former President Donald Trump. It was a private meeting, so I haven't really got anything to add to your questions. But we discussed the range of important geopolitical subjects. Trump has been skeptical of Ukraine aid. Stocks are lower on Wall Street. This is AP News. There are new rules for people involved in the WIC program. The federal program helping to pay for groceries for millions of low-income mothers, babies, and young kids will soon emphasize more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. The final rule changes for the program known as WIC were announced Tuesday by the Food and Nutrition Service, and will take effect within two years with some exceptions. Under new rules, fruits and vegetable vouchers in 2024 will provide $26 a month for kids ages one through four, $47 a month for pregnant and postpartum women, and $52 for breastfeeding women. I'm Julie Walker. Two conservative political operatives who orchestrated a robo-call campaign to dissuade black people from voting in the 2020 election have agreed to pay up to $1.25 million under a settlement with the state of New York. I'm Ed Donahue, AP News. If this fan could talk, it would tell tall tales of tall peaks, icy summits, and adrenaline-fueled adventures. And with that, comes risks.
