This is the Evil Never Dies podcast with Bretton Carl. This podcast may contain adult themes, violence and strong language. Listener discretion is advised. [Music] What's up, people? Welcome back to the Evil Never Dies podcast. Happy Veterans Day everybody to all who have served and and we're a day late in the dollar short. Aren't we Carl? We are short and I'm still pretty jacked up but I don't have fever and my heart rates not at 115. Well you've been sick since after the haunt man. Well actually I was sick before the haunt went to the doctor they gave me medicine and I got well during the haunt went back to work was fine and then Thursday I felt like my throat was a little itchy and Friday I felt kind of bad but Friday afternoon it just hit me and Friday night and Saturday I mean Saturday I woke up and I knew I had to go to the doctor or I was gonna be in trouble and went to the doctor and it was they never did tell me what was wrong they said it was probably bronchitis but they didn't seem to know they just gave me these real powerful antibiotics and and cough syrup and an inhaler believe it or not so well when you got a fever you got some sort of infection so well I don't know they never they didn't never say what it was it was one of these mystery maybe this is the latest strain of COVID that they've just injected into the air I don't know I don't know this is this is Jovid or something Jovid have no idea but I even miss work today but going back to work tomorrow and I'm better than than I was I actually went and walked for about 30 minutes just to see how much strength I had so my voice is fucked so I'm not gonna do a lot of the talking tonight I don't know what the hell happened with me yesterday dude yeah all of a sudden out of the blue dude it was like I had a demon in my in the inner depths of my bowels dude I think it was that black light for sure maybe yeah that's another fucking thing that I'm still picking up glass hey I do got my lights looking pretty cool now yeah I see them behind there's now a Sammy hanging from the ceiling back there right there yeah I got all kinds of cool stuff going on I put I put the above a mask on the on the skelly back there I can't even tell he's got dreadlocks now you can't even tell it's it don't look good I need to put it up the I would put it on a wig head a wig thing and stick it on the desk I think before that because you can't even see it back there yeah I would never have noticed that if you hadn't have said it looks awkward there yeah no I need to move it yeah probably well it's anyway done because it's gonna be probably one of our shorter episodes because we're pretty sick well I feel awesome today I don't know I don't I got whatever happened it got exercised out of me or whatever the fuck was wrong so well good you're the you're the lead tonight I'm just gonna comment when needed all right so tonight we are your pick yep covering insidious from 2010 which is actually the third chapter of the insidious movies that's right the third this is the third one the third but the first yeah it's the first movie but the third movie in the trilogy or not trilogy whatever that word is quadrogy yeah there five of them now yeah so this is the third of third of five so we're out of order yet again out of order well technically not but storyline yes these movies are confusing now they stole all that from Star Wars and George Lucas I think all right insidious directed by James Wan written by Lee Wannell and they're like I think we've mentioned this before they're like buddies I guess so yeah they were in on the saw movies together yeah produced by Jason Blum Steven Schneider and Oren Pelly and people know I like Jason Blum when he's doing something original not when he's making a remake so there you go I won't talk bad of him tonight all right you may cinematography by John R. Leonetti and David M. Brewer edited by James Wan and Kirk Morrie music by Joseph Bishara would you think of the score for this I liked it I thought it was good yeah I do too it's actually on Apple so yeah it's a good score production companies haunted movies stage six films alliance films and I am global I think this predates the formation of what do I call it bloom bloom house Bloomberg Blum House yeah I don't think they existed yet no but I think this couple of these like merge and that's what they what became Blum House I believe insidious was one of the instigators of it forming distributed by film district in the United States alliance films in Canada and momentum pictures in the UK release dates September 14 2010 and actually it wasn't released in the US until I think that was at a film festival it was released that I think I got that coming up here but but April 1st 2011 is when it was released in the States as a running time of 101 minutes seemed a little long to me countries Canada United States United Kingdom English language had a budget of 1.5 million dollars any idea how much it made back at the box office it made a lot of money that's all I can tell you hundred million I was gonna say is pay a hundred million yeah it was one of the top grossing films of 2011 so and that's all I got why why don't you go over the plot real quick Carl it's pretty pretty easy plot again this at the time we didn't know this would be the third chapter of the insidious stories it starts with a family move into a new house if y'all can understand me I hope my voice seems to be cracking so what do they got like two sons and a baby yeah and the one son is up in the attic playing with something and he falls they go check on him and he seems okay but the next day he falls into a coma so eventually that aside this house is haunted so they move out of the house and get away from it move into a new house they send figure out the house is not haunted they are haunted and they're after the kid in the coma and they're at one of the ones after him is a black Darth Maul demon yeah he looks like Darth Maul sort of after sure and this will tell the story of them trying to capture footage of the ghost and the demons and try to bring the their son back from the realm I forget what they call that realm all fan it's a different realm of reality where a lot of the supernatural are living and trying to bust into our existence I guess you would call it so that's insidious yeah alright let's go over the cast here it's pretty long cast first off we got Patrick Wilson as Josh Lambert also known for the Conjuring series yeah Josh Feldman as young Josh that Rose Byrne as Renee Lambert Lynn Shea as Elise Rainier and she did an awesome job in this movie definitely Ty Simkins as Dalton Lambert Barbara Hershey as Lorraine Lambert and she looked really good in this movie for being like 70 years old at the time and they filmed this for sure Lee one L as specs Angus Sampson as Tucker Andrew Astor as Foster Lambert Heather Tekingy as Nurse Kelly Corbett Tuck as Nurse Adele Ruben Pia as Dr. Secars John Henry Binder as Father Martin Christopher Marbessina as just ghost Martin Cubar as Tree Joseph Bishara and he's the one that did the score for this he played the lipstick face demon is that the Darth Maul demon you think I think they call him the red face demon okay which I may be a red face demon then out my face was looking pretty red earlier Jayla I'm wearing a red shirt but whatever Jayla Rose as long-haired fiend yeah fiend Philip Friedman as the old woman Kelly Davado and Corbett Tuck as the doll girls Ben Wolf as the dancing boy Larry Cruz as the whistling ghost dad Jose Fernandez as the top hat guy and cast one rose as the ghoul contortionist and that is the cast for insidious insidious you got the blue ray for this or the 4k for this I'd probably have the blue ray but I actually have it on 4k on voodoo and they're now known as fan dango I think and watched it off of that not much on the blue a lot of these 2010 movies didn't put a lot of special features out on blue ray and stuff so yeah I know I've got most of the insidious movies on blue ray but I was lazy and just pulled it off of voodoo all right I can I know why you didn't you're sick you didn't want to fuck with it so I didn't even look for it yeah all right I guess we can go over some trivia here there's really not much so this film was shot in just three weeks no wonder they had a million and a half dollars they wanted to use it what use it up yeah this film was originally going to be named the further I'm glad it wasn't yeah the further is actually that realm you're talking about I think in it I think it might be yeah 33 violins were used for the theme music that's a lot of violins a lot of screeching sort of gave me an exorcist vibe exorcist soundtrack vibe a little bit with all the violins and stuff in it and so yeah I could see that oh let's see here in 2015 there was an insidious theme maze at Universal Studios Orlando for the annual Halloween Horror Nights the maze was based on the three insidious films released at the time in 2024 there was another insidious themed haunted house at Halloween Horror Nights Orlando and and Hollywood featuring all five movies that might sort of be probably be sort of cool to go through could be let's see here on describing the approach of the film soundtrack director James want to explain we wanted a lot of the scare sequences to play really silent but what I like to do with the soundtrack is set you on the edge with really loud sort of like a tonal scratchy violin score that's exactly what it was mixing with some really weird piano bangs and take that away and all of a sudden you're like what just happened there a lot of lot of jump scares in this movie for sure yeah there is Ethan Hawke turned down the role of Josh Lambert which ultimately went back to Patrick Wilson Hawke would later appear in sinister in 2012 not only do insidious and sinister use a negative adjective as a title both are also supernatural horror movies produced by Jason Blum Sinister's not as good I haven't watched it in a while yeah Hawke and Wilson are the head of the respective families who move into the house that is haunted by a strange entity that specifically targets children film won two fright meter awards in 2011 for best for a movie and best supporting actress Lynn Shea she did awesome but every time every time I see her though I can't but not but think of what what's that the bowling movie she was in with what was the name of that movie I am no idea what you're talking about the Kimbo will know yeah Jimbo the song heard oftentimes when ghost around as the 1968 hit tip toe through the two lips yeah that was a spooky song for the movie yeah tiny Tim used to scare the shit out of me when I was a little kid like when he was big like in the early 70s and he'd be like on TV and shit he was just a creepy looking fucking guy dude yeah and I do want to apologize for us saying that Mel Brooks was dead when he was not dead - forgot about that disclaimer I will put the blame on Brett for that one because I just agreed with him without looking into it so I'll take some blame - I don't even remember saying that so I did say it you said something about blood blood blood and that's about the time he died Jim like he didn't you know Jimbo gave me shit - well you need to get the host of the show not me so you should have your research down better it's my fault it's my only go off my head you do the actual paper research this movie huh I just said praise the Mel Brooks for still being alive this movie owes more than a little bit older the 1982 movie poltergeist is although there are many original ideas there are also many similarities in the plot and characters it approximately an hour eight the movie acknowledges this influence with the kitchen work work top and steak homage I disagree I don't see anything - I don't get polter gas to this I don't either - whoever said that's an idiot - why do you find this research - don't even tell me just keep going - let's see here there's not much stuff so - I would just go to the second time Lynn Shea appeared in a movie about the afterlife she was the high school teacher in a nightmare on Elm Street 1984 - they just put that on 4k by the way - oh yeah - they're calling it an unrated edition it's only got like five extra minutes in it but it's supposedly really graphic - Barbara Hersher played the victim of a poltergeist in the entity in 1982 - that's a good movie - I put that on the list oh let's see here we've already talked about a lot all this stuff - okay so yeah this is gonna be a short one tonight there's not - oh I'm not gonna be able to talk much longer anyway so - all right well let's hear your view on this Carl - for some reason the computers acting weird on your side but it seems to be working on mine so hopefully - you froze up there for a second - oh you're the one that froze up - I beg to differ - I dude I can go back and show you where you were frozen - you always blame me forever it's you that froze up - all right I froze up okay - and then the computer whenever you freeze up it makes a beeping noise - well - when I freeze up it doesn't beep I've noticed that - I think I'm gonna get me a mini a Mac mini dude - yeah well sometimes I think mine freezes I'm when mine doesn't when it doesn't do the beep I know it's mine but when it beeps it's yours I don't know why it does that so anyway besides arguing over the frozen up it threw me off for a second because I can't think anyway I enjoy the insidious the first one the second one's okay and after that I'm not too big a fan of the series but I thought this movie was done pretty well and was pretty unique for what it was I compared a lot to the Conjuring since they came out around the same time honestly thinking Sidious is probably a bit spookier than the Conjuring but the Conjuring is probably scarier if that makes any sense whatsoever like you said a lot of the jump scares in this this movie reminds me a lot of the the have you ever seen the mini series of the shining that that Stephen King did oh no I don't think so what's it called the shot Stephen King's the shining oh the series though yeah he did a mini series because Stephen King's always been a critical of the shining and did not like the movie and did not like Stanley cubi X or whatever the hell his name that version of the movie so that he made his own and actually we watched that while I was sick and these two movies remind me of each other because there's multiple ghosts in them and possible demons so that would be the movie I would compare it to is maybe maybe the shining book I don't know but I thought it was done well acted well it may have drawn out a little bit too long I think they went on they could have probably ended it a little sooner like you said it feels long but I like the way it ended and I thought it's a unique movie and it's it's just spooky enough you know it's rated PG-13 so it's not a yeah hard core or rated movie I think the Conjuring was rated R I think so too but I do like the the insidious movies movie the first one or the third one depending on the what you want to call it I give it about a 3.75 just because it seems to go on too long honestly okay it's a little long in the saddle I think yeah definitely definitely too long yeah I could have they could have ended it 30 minutes take it a cut some crap out and ended it sooner well I wasn't very impressed with Patrick Wilson's acting that's interesting I think he's done I think he did better in the Conjuring playing Ed Warren than he did in this actually and I actually prefer part two better I watched it right after I watched yeah you kind of have to watch part to it so I watched it and I actually liked it better than this one jump scares were good it was just just would bore me in parts is a thing it's all psychological it's more psychological horror if you want to call it that yeah yeah but uh I don't know I guess if I think about it when they go into that other realm and maybe that's where they supposedly compare this to Poltergast but in Poltergast they're not really in the other realm so I don't know yeah I don't see no comparison but you know great score yeah it is good jump scares the movie was filmed like I don't know one really too big fan of the cinematography either it was dark in places that shouldn't have been so dark and light in places where it shouldn't have been so light they like I don't know I just not a big fan of this movie for sure okay so I'm gonna give it a one and a half god bless that low yeah Jesus yeah I like the conjuring is better and I don't think I don't think I've seen in cities three four or five whatever three is three three is not very good and four was terrible five goes back to the original family but I haven't even watched five honestly is that the red door or something yeah the red door I don't know the conjuring movies have gotten long for me to I mean I don't know I didn't I like the first two I think that was the rest of them are okay the 2010s we're all about the haunting movies so it seems like in the 2020s we're going into the freaking gore with like the clown being so popular oh yeah and he is too he is so I think I still want to go see terrifier three in the theater man well it's not gonna be there long you're gonna have to get it off of streaming yeah but yeah 2010 was definitely the year of the haunted spiritual demon haunted house movies and I think that since passed and we moved on but horror movies are still more popular now than they have been in many many years yeah didn't the paranormal activities come out around they did yeah that's another one I like the first couple of them and then the rest were shit I think so yeah I know those none movies are a big disappointment from the conjuring series I like the Annabel movies okay well there's like 10 of them I think conjuring movies no Annabel just Annabel movie I don't think there's 10 of them there's probably four or five of them you know about that everybody's making an Annabel movie I could make one I guess with this new creepy doll that I got nobody ever submitted anything we got two we got two so far I had I had about 10 until somebody grabbed at me to take it down that doing a contest here so I took it down I should have kept it up trying to get people to watch evidently they're not maybe we should just post it I'm starting to call for this so I'm looking well if you're just now hearing about this we got that creepy ass doll well I'm not gonna go pick it up tonight no I know but you'll have to go back two episodes to see what it looks like it's creepy as shit but we're looking for a name for it and we've got two entries so far so well I don't want to talk about it tonight all right not to have a coffin attack all right well thanks for watching and listening everybody I'm sick but at least we did a show I guess and a late dollar short check it out hit that like and subscribe button and turn on them notifications and but all I got man can I go now bye stable everybody you you ready yeah we decided to call them they don't know what to call it I went into Dalton's room there's something in there with him I know someone who can help we took tri-field in a map readings of the whole house wiring alarm plugs I don't think bad wiring is the problem here it's not the house that's haunted it's your son you (dramatic music) (loud thud) (dramatic music) (dramatic music) (dramatic music) (dramatic music) (dramatic music) (dramatic music) (dramatic music) (dramatic music) (dramatic music) (dramatic music) (dramatic music) (dramatic music) (dramatic music) (dramatic music) (upbeat music) [BLANK_AUDIO]
