The Wood File with Murray Wood - November 14, 2024
You know the old saying, "But a tree falling in the forest." Well, what if they held a postal strike and nobody noticed? We could be looking at a strike by postal workers as early as tomorrow. The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has issued strike notice. Key sticking points include wages and changes to working conditions. I would see sorters, sorts, and carriers deliver, like in the private companies. The letter carriers won a 24% raise over four years Canada Post is offering just under half that amount. Now, considering Canada Post hasn't made money in several years, one wonders if the postal workers really want to underline how irrelevant they're becoming. People don't send a lot of mail anymore. And then recently when it was a bit slippery in Regina after a snowfall, Canada Post halted deliveries for the day. The kids were still delivering fliers, people were still walking their dogs, but it was too dangerous for Canada Post carriers. This could really backfire if they have a strike and hardly anyone really notices.
