In our new series, we will examine the laws of Maariv.  May our learning be a merit for our brave soldiers in the IDF, full healing for our brothers and sisters in Israel, and for a safe return of ALL the hostages.

In our next lesson we continue to discuss the time to Daven Maariv.

Our learning is dedicated L'Iluy Nishmat Captain Daniel Perez HY"D who was killed in battle on October 7th, 2023.

(upbeat music) - Hello and welcome back to our study of Pina Helocha, teachings Rabbi Azim Alamed, Shlita. Hope everyone is having a good (speaking in foreign language) as we ask to please continue davening for (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) and a safe return of our hostages with dedicated our learning (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) and somewhere along the line, I don't know how it happened, but just looking at the client that we use for uploading, et cetera, it's a sort of a notice to me. We passed 400 episodes, hard to believe 400, we're well over that now, and thousands and thousands of downloads. Thank you everyone for taking part in our learning and every piece of Torah, every word of Torah that we could spread to the greater audience, obviously is a greater (speaking in foreign language) as Rabbi Alamed always writes about bringing the light into the world and the greatness of Hashem into the world and that was the whole goal why when he encouraged me to do this, it's one of the reasons is that we just want to make sure that as many people has access to Torah as possible in every way possible. So thank you so much for your support and let's keep it going for another 400 and another 10,000 downloads and whatever it might be. Anyway, the next chapter is (speaking in foreign language) about how do we (speaking in foreign language) of today. (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) in many or in several or in a few, depending how you want to read that, congregations, the custom is to (speaking in foreign language) together. We always call it that. It's called what time is many today. (speaking in foreign language) So (speaking in foreign language) today here in Livingston, New Jersey is at 425. (speaking in foreign language) Many people do it between (speaking in foreign language) and say (speaking in foreign language) sometime between, again, that hour and a quarter before sunset and nightfall. (speaking in foreign language) The period of the (speaking in foreign language) this was done mainly in Ashkenaz, in Germany and those areas. And in the (speaking in foreign language) later on, it was in (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) And many great figures in Israel and the history of our people, they were, they looked at scans at this (speaking in foreign language) and they tried to get rid of it (speaking in foreign language) because this is a contradictory one (speaking in foreign language) once you're davening (speaking in foreign language) according to the (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) then you can't daven Marv at the same time. As (speaking in foreign language) as we said yesterday. (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) What they said is that you should wait, wait until Marv is at this (speaking in foreign language) have a sheer, learned Torah, whatever it might be. (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) So again, let's take our (speaking in foreign language) where we are, where if we were to finish at sunset, we'd have to wait 42 minutes to daven Marv so that nobody would stick around. If at the case of a common realized that if they were to have difficulty in achieving a minion and having Marv with a minion, (speaking in foreign language) so then we could be lenient and you could daven Marv right after (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) And of course provided that everyone should say (speaking in foreign language) after nightfall. A very long footnote here as well, which is gonna kinda go over it (speaking in foreign language) afterwards (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) An individual that normally davens according to the (speaking in foreign language) which is (speaking in foreign language) Marv after nightfall. (speaking in foreign language) And he appears and he finds himself in a place where they're davening in a different sense (speaking in foreign language) they're davening both before taste. (speaking in foreign language) Some say better to daven with a minion. (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) Some say it's better that he should follow his custom daven with them with a minion from (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) and Marv you should daven after taste (speaking in foreign language) The footnote here again in number seven, he adds (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) But if they daven with before plug and then Marv was after plug that he certainly could do as we saw yesterday. So let me just, and it's very, very confusing what happens and I'll just give you our practice to give you an understanding. Is that the way we do it here in America, again in Israel, it's much different because in Israel, it's much easier to wait to daven with (speaking in foreign language) The (speaking in foreign language) I mean, (speaking in foreign language) I mean, (speaking in foreign language) People have difficulty davening altogether. That's the period when there's no (speaking in foreign language) And it's vacation. So you have to worry about davening altogether. I meant (speaking in foreign language) In the twilight, after sunset until nightfall, in Israel, it's something like 13 minutes. So it's very easy to wait that period of time. But here, so what we do is most of the year, if we're davening, let's say today, we're davening at 425 and Shkiya is at 439, which means sunset is 439, but says it's gonna be 520 something. So we're not waiting until 520 something to daven Marv. Well, daven Mincha will finish before 439. We will learn, and guess what? By the way, between Mincha Marv, we learn (speaking in foreign language) Little secret there. We're learning the laws of (speaking in foreign language) So if we learn and then we finish the learning after sunset, so that Marv is at least after sunset, that's how it works here in America. And that's how many, many, many shows do this. In the summertime, we make sure that we finish Mincha before Plagan Mincha, and then after Plagan Mincha, we daven Marv, but we'll never do both. You can't have both Mincha and Marv between Plagan Shkiya because then you're taking the best of both worlds. The only exception to that might be sometimes on the early Shabbos in the summer that you run into that gray area where you're davening Mincha and Marv between Plagan Mincha and Shkiya. And it's confusing, but just trust me, the schedulers know what they're doing, and we just want to give you an understanding of how this structure works. And it's unique because we have a (speaking in foreign language) that does not have a clear-cut winner or a clear-cut sock, and it's unusual that we have the opinion that says, you want to do (speaking in foreign language) You want to follow this one, you could follow that one, and even switch off on occasion as we have seen. But in any event, we just want to share the halocha. Thank you so much again for listening. Please continue davening for Carly. (speaking in foreign language) Stay for turn of our hostages. (speaking in foreign language) Thank you so much for listening again. Have a great day. We'll see you here next time. (gentle music) (dramatic music)
