[548] Detroit Lions Just Keep Winning - Detroit Lions Podcast

Houston Texans Game Review: Lions Pull Off a Thrilling Comeback The Detroit Lions showed why they’re one of the top teams in the NFL with a dramatic last-second victory over the Houston Texans. In a game filled with ups and downs, the Lions relied on resilience and clutch performances to secure the win. Jake Bates was the hero of the day, nailing two massive field goals—one from an incredible 58 yards, and a 52-yard game-winner as time expired. Bates’ performance earned him well-deserved recognition and (and a game ball) as one of the most clutch kickers in the NFL this season. The Lions’ offense had its struggles, as Jared Goff’s stats weren’t eye-popping, but his leadership and ability to deliver under pressure were evident. Goff orchestrated a critical fourth-quarter drive to put the team in position for Bates’ heroics, once again showing that he can win games even when the numbers don’t tell the full story. Detroit Lions Just Keep Winning: Eyes on the 2024 NFL Season Playoffs With an 8-1 record, the Detroit Lions continue to dominate the 2024 NFL season, cementing their position as one of the league’s best teams. This win over the Texans showcased the team’s ability to persevere in tight situations, further solidifying their reputation as a favorite in the playoffs. Special teams, led by Jake Bates, have been instrumental in the Lions’ success, and Bates’ clutch kicking gives the team confidence in high-pressure moments. On the other hand, Jared Goff’s steady leadership, even during statistical slumps, has been the glue holding the offense together. Goff’s ability to make key throws when it matters most is an invaluable asset as the Lions look toward the postseason. Jacksonville Jaguars Game Preview: Showdown at Ford Field The Lions’ next challenge comes at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoon. The Jaguars, normally led by quarterback Trevor Lawrence who is out with an injury this week, brings a balanced offensive attack that could test Detroit’s defense. The Lions’ pass rush will need to pressure Mac Jones consistently, especially with the first start for Za'Darius Smith while Aidan Hutchinson is out injured. Offensively, Goff and the Lions will aim to build momentum early against a tough Jacksonville defense. With the game at Ford Field and the Lions riding high, this match-up is another opportunity for Detroit to prove they’re one of the NFL’s elite teams. And rose-colored glasses never go out of style. >> This is the Detroit Lions Podcast. You're a Detroit Lions and Reddit connection. And now, two guys who agree with Jared Goff's plumbing choices, Chris, and the Riz. >> Hey, I know Lions fans, welcome to the Detroit Lions podcast episode 548. The Detroit Lions just keep winning. This is your official Detroit Lions podcast for Reddit. I am your dashingest of hosts, Chris. And with me is my good friend, freshly interneted co-host. And sexy all around, man, Jeff, the Riz Riz and how you doing, brother. >> It is great to have internet. I was cut off for almost two full days. It really sucked. I'm happy to be back in the waking world and alive and enjoying Lions land. And it's great to be with you, Chris. Thanks for having me. You as well, brother, a lot going on in this world right now, but we'll cut through it. We'll get you to the important stuff like we always do. In Lions land first, we'll talk about, well, do I warm up so we got a couple of good ones. We got a Texans review review of the Houston Texans game. What a wild ride. We got Jake Bates, top of the world. The Detroit Lions, they're forged in fire and we'll talk about how and why and what it means. Jared Goff's stats don't make the man, an injury report, and the Jacksonville Jaguars game preview because we will put a little on the wrong level. We had a great show lined up. Don't look past him, Riz. Everyone win one game at a time. This week is most important week on to the Jacksonville Jaguars. >> Got a great show lined up. Riz, you ready to go, brother? >> Let's do it. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Let's keep this off and break it down. >> Yeah. >> Feel it, brother. >> Feel it. Feel it. Okay, before we do the warm ups, I want to get to the most important news breaking out there and it's from Congress. We don't do politics. I know that, but we have to talk about this. This is gigantic state state tight to your speakers because nobody anywhere is talking about this because there's so much other stuff going on. Riz, there's fucking aliens, bro. Did you see it? It's a congressional testimony today that they've got biologics of aliens and they've got freaking ships. This isn't like Alex Jones tear shit. This is like for real, congressional real testimony like aliens, dude. What the hell is going on? >> The Megadeth Hanger 18 video is real? >> Yes, yes. People like, look, you talk about the rapture, you talk about parting seas, plagues of frogs, lions, winning the Super Bowl. Those are all the things that happen when aliens are real, bro. I'm telling you, what? >> I might have to check this out. I've been in somewhat solitude offline for the most part and I didn't even have internet at all. And if you've been to my house, you'll know why because they are building a new subdivision just over there about a half a mile down, and when they were putting, heading through the sidewalk to get the entranceway, the cord. >> Kayla's with the steam shovels, they usually are. >> Thank you. >> Michael Lucci's asking the real questions, do aliens get gout? Really important stuff. I think that's in tomorrow's hearings. >> I don't know, I will bow to our alien overlords that will be your servants if you need me. >> It's good. >> I can write you press releases. >> Dad, it's bananas to me. I'm sorry, I know it's not football, we'll get right into the football. But frickin' aliens is like the most important news of my lifetime and like it's nowhere. Like dude, do you know how fundamentally it changes our understanding of the universe? It's to me, it's just like- >> But Chris, some people knew they were here already. >> Wow. >> You saw they live. >> Yeah. >> Epic movie. That was an incredible movie. >> WMW2. >> That's actually the first movie I ever paid to see twice in the theater, right? I went two nights in a row because I'm like, I gotta see that fine scene to get my body going. That was incredible. >> Big news here. Oh my God, it's almost bigger than aliens. Can we bring FTP to the stars? Also Jeff, you can bum my wife at any time. >> That's good. >> Great. Okay, let's get into it. All right, let's get into it. Warmups used as pain in going backward, there's two things. I mean, we have to say, poor James Houston, not to Houston, Texas, poor James Houston, man. So as he sat in Gatorade, I'll just give him credit, I'll say, yep, that's what happened. That's what happened. >> He played it off about as well as you could, honestly, the damage control that you did. I'm proud of you, James, that was good. >> My poor guy. >> He finally makes a play and he literally shits himself. >> It appears as though, but it's just Gatorade, it's just Gatorade. But man. >> The start of the play. >> National TV, bro. >> National TV, I feel so bad for my guy, I do, I do. It has nothing to do with this play. Anybody having to go through that on that, what a James. >> He didn't do like what Paul Pierce did when he was with the Celtics, and he put in the wheelchair and whinked it's over him like he was going to die, and he came back on later. He was just going to go take a shit, like, give you some, but he left it all out on the field. That's what we wanted to do. >> Both Houston's took a dump on the field. >> Man, I was so happy for him. >> That was too. >> That he made a play. >> I was too. >> I just wanted to say it was a lot because he's taken so much shit over this. >> He really has, and we've given him a ton of crap. >> Just ride it. >> Just ride it. >> Just go with it. >> Didn't mean to do that, seriously. But like I've given that guy so much shit over the years, and he's finally made a couple of plays, not enough, but at least he's doing something, and you know what? Good for him. He's so much shit, and he doesn't deserve, I mean, he's a player, he's working hard. He's coming back from an injury. You gotta feel for the guy. And then, you know, this happens, and hopefully, you know, it was catering. All I know at this point is, and the poor guy doesn't deserve it. Hearts love, nothing but love, James. I'm sorry, man. Nobody deserves to have to go through what you're dealing with this week. So good sack, great play. Thank you for your contribution, man. That's all I've got to go. >> We got four sacks, you know how many sacks they got? Zebra. And that's with superstar Hall of Fame left tackle Dan Skipper out there. Let's rock, let's think about that a little bit. So the left side of that whole line was so bad. Oh my god. Houston's been, I should have done this in running it backwards, because then you get the runs joke there, but running it backward, I want to, I want to kind of alluded to what Ben Johnson said that Jen Campbell gave him a quote. This is the San Fran game in reverse. I freaking love that, like to walk in and say that at half time to this team, we'll talk about what we can take away from this season. But that quote from Ben to that team is absolutely fantastic. And then Carlton Davis, we'll get into the review here in a second, love, love, love to Carlton Davis and what he gave this team in that game. Jake Bates, of course, Carlton Davis, couple of guys are absolute superstars and what they brought and what they left on the field, including James Houston. For what they left on the field out there, fantastic team win and saying we're running this in reverse, man. You can believe in anything at this point with this team and you can believe in anything. It was, it was, it was such a fun, interesting game. And it was, it was one of those, um, the following university was just that it's perfect for what this was. Yeah. Absolutely is. Yeah. Um, no sacks and five interceptions, Donkey Kong. What is it? Call it. I want to see it in the chat because I want to put it up on the screen. What's, what's the, what's the quote? Uh, Houston made a play. I shit you not, uh, go on Don bird in the chat. How you doing? Mother. Uh, so there you go. Uh, Houston Spain and going backward. I love that quote. I love the way he just was able on the fly in that game to turn it around and put this in perspective for the players. That's right. Freaking fantastic. Let's get into it. Let's review Houston Texans game, um, what we're going to give Jake Bates a little bit of special love on his own shortly, um, because he deserves it for, for, for what he, what's happened, what he, where he's come from and what he's done. I want to talk about it a little bit differently than you've heard from others because it's like a passing like little tag that you can hang your hook on and move on. But, um, good, you know, we'll talk about that. But the idea of running this game in reverse of that San Fran game, Riz, this was fantastic for this team. And I mean, look, there was people, I'm just going to bed in the first half, people that wrote this off. We had over 1200 live views at one point in the post game show at frickin midnight at midnight, dude, people are amped for this win and to walk away and to have a team that stares this kind of adversity in the face and says, I shit you not we're taking this game, like they did, and they went out there and that, that kick at the moment, the last moment from Jake just sealed it. I mean, what a glorious, glorious win in a way, a way in adversity. Like there was, there is nothing this team can't do. There's nothing that this team can't do. I have actually been in a reliable when they opened the stadium and it does feel like you're outside. Like you don't, you don't see the roof or whatever, they did a good job opening, wonderful stadium by the way. I did not get to go this week, but I had a ton of people who went, including Dr. Liao. And everybody seemed to enjoy the Houston food cuisine. It is, in my humble opinion, from living there for a few years, the greatest place in America to eat, because you can get native cuisine from any place on earth. Fused with any native cuisine elsewhere on earth at the same time, it's an incredible place to eat. But yeah, that's the thing that won a playoff game last year. I wanted to criticize the Detroit pizza, because I saw some shots, I'm like, yeah, it doesn't really look like the Detroit pizza. That's from Austin, at least. So when I lived there, I lived there from 2010 to 2013, Detroit pizza wasn't really a thing yet that I recall. I mean, I'm sure it was, but like, I live on the west side of the state. It wasn't here. I do actually remember when we got our first jets here in the Holland Zealand area, and that was after we moved back in 2014. So it wasn't really a thing. Now we have buddies. We got all kinds of stuff. We got Crust 54 in Holland, which is the best. If you're ever in Holland, go to Crust 54, it's a great place. Wash down at brewery 424, excellent guys there. Their, uh, surveillance beer, their, uh, Mexican lagers, fantastic. But like that Austin tries to butt in a little bit on the food thing, and like Austin's barbecue, like Houston is, you can get good barbecue in Houston too, but like Houston is Tex-Max and Asian fusion and South American fusion, African stuff and Middle Eastern, and it's, and you can also, it's so good. So I'm, I'm happy that everybody got to go and do it, happy that they got to see a win, happy that they got to experience the city where, uh, I still have a lot of attachment there. I still, I still actually get the daily reports from the Texans media, even though I have not covered that team since the 20, the end of the 2019 season. They're great people. I love their media, their local, their radio guys, their, their podcasters, their print guys from the most part are all that they are friends of mine. They're a great team and I, it's very, very nice to win because we hadn't beaten them in a long time and under some adverse circumstances in the past. Yeah. And you raised the Justin Forsett incident, the Jim Schwartz penalty, where he got a penalty right before he couldn't erase it, it might write a history, I think I might have, might have, might have, write a history, be, be aware we're working on a, a cool revenge torture. Just so you know, it's, I mean, it doesn't erase anything. It does help. It does help. It's the salve. You know, so we hadn't beaten them since 20, it was 2004, it was. Joe Harrington. Joey Harrington's last. What? To read Houston. Yeah, beating up the, so that was the Texans, what, third season? Yeah. They were terrible. They were terrible for like, we kind of ignored it in Detroit because like we were bad too, but they were like historically bad. That was the year that wasn't the year where Derek Carr got sacked. David Carr, David Carr got sacked, I think it was 78 times, but they were really bad other than Andre Johnson and it was nice to get a win there. That's a good football team. Like I said, they are going to win the AFC South. We will help in that because we'll read to sweep that division. Spoiler alert, spoiler alert, it's hard, man. It's hard, like, it's hard to see, go ahead. It's hard to see a whole lot of losses on the schedule, bro. It's hard. So they're going to happen, but it's hard to predict them, but I tell you what, the way that they played this last game, they probably should have lost. I mean, they're so good that they didn't, and that's kind of scary. Last year's team would have lost and then, and I know we're playing the Jacksonville Jaguars this week, which are people really are looking past and that's fine because they're not a fantastic team. Lawrence isn't Joey Lawrence. Trevor Lawrence isn't playing. But last year, it's a game they would have lost and then they would have had that bounce back get right game afterward. You know what I mean? They got right there and didn't get the loss. It's a different, it takes a little more. Like Coach said, it takes a little more, right? It's what they've, it's really their personality and what they become a freaking love this man. That's winning a playoff game on the road, in effect, because if you don't win that, all of a sudden you're tied with the Philadelphia Eagles for the number one seed, now you're still a game clear. That's very important. They need to get the buy for selfish reasons because if they get a buy, I can travel with my daughter for a volleyball tournament. Don't. I can't go. And I really want to go. So get that number one seed, give me that, give me that, give me that month of the week end off. I mean, I mean, I think it happened. Let's go. And there's there on pace. And I take, I talked about this when I was on the huge show the other day. The possible remaining losses. And we both agreed, Bill and I did that there's at least one, probably two. But when will it be, I'd be very flabbergasted beyond all belief. There would be an alien coming out of the toilet in the bathroom behind me if they lose this one because this is a bad Jacksonville team. They, they played about as well as you can defensively and still lost in Minnesota when they say I'm darn old, play like crap. I don't think Jared Goff's going to play like crap again. No, I actually don't think he played like crap the other night. I think he got unlucky a little bit and I think we harped a little bit on two of the interceptions. One of them was a Hail Mary. It didn't matter. Another one was technically a strip sack, but it got caught. So it's an interception and not a sack. Yeah. There you go. Yeah. Sorry. I'll show you that one. No, that's, that's interesting. You were alluding to the fact tonight and I jumped on you earlier that Houston is a team that will be at home in the playoffs and we beat them at home. We're another team that's going to be at home in the playoffs. The, the chance that we meet up again does that, how, how, how high do you think that chances? I mean, lions have a better chance. How, how high is the chance that we had a preview of a super bowl game here? I, Baltimore is really, Pittsburgh is really good right now. They're playing good football. You can't knock, but Kansas City's number one in all the power pools. They are the last undefeated team. They won the last super bowl. They might not be a better than the lions, but they earned that number one spot until, you know, to be the man, you got to beat the man. Well, nobody's beating the man yet. So we can't be the man, but I'll, I'll take the number two, no pun intended again. James, we're number one in the NFC and number two right now and we will keep that because I'll tell you what, and, you know, just we're not going to lose this coming week. I hate to give that sport away, but come on, make Jones a beaten as defense, not a chance. That defense was fantastical. Terián Arnold, again, taking some penalties. My guy's a rookie. I don't know that I've seen a rookie play like Terián at cornerback against the level of competition. Remember, we're playing a first place schedule this year, Minnesota isn't, Green Bay isn't, and this is like we've talked about this a couple of shows ago, how we couldn't beat teams over 500. It's because we're playing loser team schedules and we look good against loser teams, right? We're playing winner team schedules and Terián Arnold is out there. I don't think I've seen anyone have a rookie season like this, and I'm going to say it and you can laugh at me, but since soft gardener, I can't think of another guy. He's very good. He's got some things played at his level, man. Yeah, he's got some things to clean up, but in terms of like his man coverage instincts and ability, he's very, very good already. He's got to learn to play a little bit with less with his hands and to his credit, he's doing that. He got caught the other night because he didn't turn and locate the ball. And then he didn't get caught in there and Glenn can work with him. And then he didn't get caught in that one. Take it. I'll take it. Oh, a reason needs to be so tied by we can give good reasoning as to why do you genuinely think differently now or is it a little bit of travel excuses? Sorry. You answer that after you do. Oh, yeah. It's definitely a travel excuse. I would much rather play. I don't want to. I don't want to post season by. I want to keep playing. I do not like being the number one seed. I would actually rather be the two seed, except that I would want that last game to be at home. So, you know, if getting the buy means that you're hosting every playoff game, then give it to me. I would prefer to indeed keep playing, especially if you win late. Like they go in and they wax the 49ers and keep them from getting in the postseason. And that's a very real possibility. And then you end the Vikings hopes you send them to the seven seed or make them miss. I would want to keep playing. That's just me. Yeah. I know most players and most coaches would rather have the time off. Yeah. Yeah. Don't keep going. He got a spin there. I do want those. I want those home teams. I want the home games. Yeah. I do not want to play Philly there. I want to play them here. Yeah. Yeah. Let me ask you about something. And this is Steve. Oh, thank you for bringing this up. The ball was come out of his hand funky all day Sunday. Was there something wrong? I thought I was certain there was something wrong. He was had an injury or something going on because like other than horizontal passes, vertical passing, even the passes that were there were not pretty passes at all, especially, I mean, we know how, you know, there's some golf ducks that go out there, but they still arrive on target, right? This was not golf balls. Yeah. It was. Oh, God. The new Apple Watch series 10 is here. It has the biggest display ever. Well, Don, yes, it was, he had some, there's nothing that I know of that he's wrong. I will say, he was under more pressure quicker. And we've talked about this before, he likes, he, he cannot have pressure in his face. That's where he really gets in trouble. And Panay, especially early, had a rough start. He finished incredibly well, I did disagree with that a little bit. But he was under, he was throwing the ball like a half tick before he wanted to a lot. And I think some of that was the offensive line. I do think that some of it was just he, he had a bad night throwing the football. But it wasn't catastrophic enough to lose. And you know, he finished strong. I think he, I think Ben Johnson called a good game in adjusting what, okay, Jared doesn't have this ball tonight. So let's, let's put that away. We'll do it. He's heading to Jack's Hall. He's heading to Chicago. He's heading to India. We're good. And I thought, no, we've, this show has given Ben Johnson some golf over the times where he's gotten too cute or he's gotten to, he's trying to show off how smart he is instead of win a football game. I think he did the opposite of that this week. And I think that's just some credit because that, that is a very valid criticism. I do believe that the Ben Johnson times where he's not playing necessarily to the opponent in front of him. He's not playing chess against himself or, you know, trying to show up in defensive quarter. I know it's not intentional, but I think he, I think that's something that he does. And I don't think he did it this time. And I think that deserves some credit because I think Aaron Glenn does a fantastic job of playing the opponent in front of him as one of the reasons why he's going to get a coaching job this offseason. So let me ask, let me put on my Monera's hat and say, you know, last week, the lion said that, you know, the, the idea that the, that golf couldn't play outside or in the elements was thrown away, but the roof was open in Houston. And we saw how the doors affected golf's play. Obviously he has issues playing out. Come on. Really. There was, there was literally no effect to the weather, right? But somehow there's Monera's is going to turn that into a stat, right? That's what he does. Oh, I couldn't put that up there yet. Sorry. Sorry there, Don. I had a joke. I wanted to draw first. So, yeah, no, that's crazy, right? I mean, he can't play outside that also when they open up the roof and he can't play some. I mean, it was indeed open. It was humid. I wasn't there, but I just from living in Houston, actually this was the November, December, and then March and April are like the best months to be in Houston because the humidity doesn't. Yeah. I'm sure it was a beautiful mic. It was, it was actually a nice weekend for football here. I was like 58 little, little breeze, not too moist. I think it would have been, it would have been a nice time, but you know, we're a dome team. We're good. We go to Green Bay and when we can go to, we can, we will go to Chicago. We'll go to Chicago and win that team fired their offensive coordinator because they can't fire their rookie quarterback or their head coach that will come later in the industry north. Michael Luccis. Can we lend the Monera's hat to, the Monera's hat to James Houston? Evidently, he lent him his pants. That would have been a better excuse than the Gatorade. I borrowed Carlos's pants and forever, I will say that those were Monera's his pants. That Houston was wearing, that's, that's the end of the story there. Nothing breaking up. I do actually have to say Carlos does dress like very nice. I have to give him that. He always looks good. Excuse me. Soul Houston's pants. Could be. I don't know. I heard it, you know, allegedly, I guess. All right. So there we go. Houston, Houston Texans game, massive comeback. I want to take this, I want to take this into a little bit of another topic if you don't mind my friend and a little bit of love for Jake Bates, the NFC special team's player of the week. I want to talk first off. People pass this by and I want to kind of give it in him a little bit of credit. My man was selling bricks. He was out of football. They almost use it as a pejorative like you're a loser selling bricks, right? There's a quote, I saw this years ago and it stuck with me and I don't know if anybody knows who said this, please, please let me know because I cannot find it anywhere. And if I can't, I'll just claim it as my own, but there is nothing so sad in this world as when a man realizes he won't achieve his dream. And it's that I was like, holy cow, because like most people at some point in their life realize they won't be everything they wanted to be or they thought they could be, right? And here's a kid that's in his early 20s who wanted to play football and he's selling bricks, which is definitely not his dream, right? But that's a point where you talk about having that moment at that age, holy shit, how absolutely heartbreaking, how that could break a man, you know what I mean? When you think about what that goes on, it's tough to realize when your dream is over and it wasn't. And the other side of it is, I'll say, and I'm not saying this is a bad kind of crafted or trade or anything at all, at that age, I was a freaking mechanic. I was a car mechanic, right? That wasn't what my dream was. I use that to work my way through that and student loans to work my way through college over the course of friggin eight years, you know what I mean? I wasn't at my dream then, but I kept working, chugging and plugging and running and doing what I could to kind of scratch and claw my way ahead. And I just kind of see he was doing what he had to to recognize his dream. And I don't want to look down at the what he did for a job because if he didn't make it kicking, I guarantee he probably wouldn't still be selling bricks. He would have caught scratch and clawed on his way, man. I was looking to get a lot of talent and a lot of smarts in his head. I was looking up how much you make as a brick salesman, base salary is average $71,000 a year with commissions between $115 and $130,000 a year selling, like, I might need to sell some bricks, man. Like, that's not a bad way to make a living, especially with no idea when he got Houston manufacturing them at that rate, thank you again, James. If you've ever met a Houston, you'll know that they don't make houses out of wood because there ain't no trees, right? Everything is brick. Everything is brick. But they use it as a pejorative when they describe him, you know what I mean? And that's like, it makes it help a lot more than I did. Geez. I don't look at that as a pejorative. I mean, the guy went to something he did something to do with not his dream, though. And that's where the story is, I think. The guy did something that was just not where his like, like what his and the fact that he was able to take that and still turn it into and get to here. And I don't care like we thought we were making jokes in the post-game show, you know, just a couple inches. Yeah, but it's right down the middle, right? I am absolutely happy as hell for this guy. And for those two kicks to have gone in, close or not, it just made it more fun, man. It made it more fun. So the first one, I was on my, I was on my knees in my living room and I indeed was like twisting and get in and it worked so you're welcome. I can't believe how much prick salesmen make. I never, I didn't know that that was a thing and like, they make good money. That's not a bad way to make a living. When I was his age, I was helping Cardiulars make more money off of you as I worked for a company that provided a software to automotive finance departments and developers and people had to use it and thought them how to make more money off of you. I did not like that. I got burned out on that for, but you got to do what you got to do, man. You get, and there's no shame in doing what you're doing if it's to a greater good, to a, to a, if it's, it's a way you got to do it to the best year, but be the best freaking prick sales when you can be. Be the best automotive F and I guy you can be the best mechanic you can be the best whatever. Justin and so good, thousands of winter deals are at Nordstrom Rack stores now. And that means thousands of fresh reasons to rack because we get the latest trends for way less. I've been looking for these best deals go fast, safe, big with up to 60% off Sam Edelman Surrell, free people, Kohan and more cold weather finds, great brands, great prices. That's why you rack because it leads to whatever whatever it leads, it will lead you to your dream. And anything can lead you to dream, everyone has a different path, but that's that. Oh man. So anyway, yeah, that's, that's, that's the part of the story they love that they love. They just kind of toss that out there and they do it like it's a pejorative and I don't think it is. I think it's a testament to the guy's character and, and, and the fact, you know, of, of kind of what makes him who he is. And then to see him come in and be able to do this and you see the graphic for the show where the team's carrying them on their shoulders after the game. That's a heartening, wonderful moment and a fantastic story. This kid's, he, you listen to him talk, he's got a heart of goal. He's such just a wonderful young guy, it's, it's, it's, it's awesome to see people like that. It's really cool. You really, and, and Chris, he did it. One of those Lions player stories about character, right? Another one where another guy of high character pulls through for a high character, high quality team. I just love this line story. Chris, he did it in Houston, he's from Katie, Texas, which is technically a suburb. It's actually further than it is from Detroit to Lansing from Houston to Katie, but it's all city. So it's like, as part of the city, again, if you've never been to Houston, it takes you two and a half hours to drive across the city where I live in Holland for me to go to a Michigan state game and Lansing is 110 miles away. And that doesn't get you all the way across Houston, like it's, it's a massive, massive place, but he tried up with the Texans and it did not go well. That's putting it lightly. Yeah, he was gone by August. He was gone in two days basically of action. And, and when you hear how bad he did, you'll understand why, aside from the fact that they have Kaimie Fairbairn, who is one of the best kickers in the league, and by the way, he yacked on his kit. I thought for sure he was going to make it. I had my tweet, my winning tweet already ready. Am I heart? My, no, I'm sorry, my brain knew the lions were going to win. They knew it even when Houston had the ball. My heart was terrified and beaten out of my chest, but I had, and then that's why I used the friend Stanford, and I said, Stanford, I'm coming to see Elizabeth one because it was, it was like, I'm coming to see Elizabeth Lions win, but my brain knew it was, I just sat there with it ready to go because I just knew, man, I knew it. I thought for sure Fairbairn was going to make that kick. I really did. But yeah, there was still time for the lions to come back. Yeah. I was, I was like, okay, how much time do they have left? Goss going to get the other, what are they going to hit? Well, the Laporta is sitting out. So we got GMO, um, Brock Wright is going to catch like a 25 yard pass and like, there's nothing to need it. It was great. Yeah. So 10 tons of love to Jake Bates, congratulations for the, for the moment, man, you deserve it. You deserve it. That's like, I mean, the only way it could be better is a playoff game or that, or the Super Bowl to have a, have a moment like that. You know what I mean? That's fantastic. And, and congrats, bro. Congrats. That's really, really great for you. I want to use this, this, this, this comment, though, from straight lions talk because it's a good one. I feel as a Darius Smith will become a mentor to James Houston. I expect Houston to finish the year strong, possibly double digit sacks. That's, that's a tall order halfway through the year, but I don't know about that because Smith's taking his snaps. Well, yeah. And, and here's the part though that I think is, is really important on that. So I'm going to cruise into our forage and fire, the Detroit Lions season takeaway so far. The Darius Smith was on that sideline. Yes, it was. And he was already coaching and working. Now I don't know that this is a fact. This is a pure speculative play, right? How much do you think the Darius has helped James Houston just in this little bit of time, working with him on the sideline, talking to him, just say and play the shit out of it out there, man. Just, just, sorry. Just do your thing. Jesus. Sorry. I'm sorry. I don't know how I lie. I think having a, a veteran like that, um, Marcus Davenport is a good dude, but that's not who he is, because the Darius is that kind of guy and, you know, I don't mean to, I mean to crap on Marcus Davenport and I didn't mean to say that pun either. But it's a Darius is that sort of, that's one of the reasons why we had, we had made it very clear early on that the Lions were targeting him and be, would be interested in him because that is who he is. That's who he's shown to be. And it was, I'm very grateful that I got the deal done. They were not the only bidder. They might not have been the highest bidder either. And the Browns probably deserve a little bit of credit for letting Sedarius go where he wanted to go. You know, you want to come to Detroit, you know, who the problem was in that deal? And mostly, it's, it's going to blow people's minds. It was Haslam. I'm not going to say a homeless guy told them that he, big surprise that Jimmy Haslam's a problem multiple times, multiple times that people are saying, Oh, it's Quinn. It's, it's, no, Cleveland has no, literally nothing to do with that. And ownership is an absolute dumpster fire, and that dumpster is full of tires on fire. It is a complete freaking shit show. I, I wonder if Haslam is the next one to get one out of the league, maybe not, not this year, next year, but at some point, because if he was a doctor, he'd already be sued out of business for malpractice, what an absolute disaster. He's, I don't cover that team anymore, and I'm glad because there's nothing good coming out of Cleveland right now. And I feel terrible because there are some great people in an organization on their coaching staff, on their roster in that, you know, expanded organization, but at the top, it is as bad as it gets. And it's shameful, it's embarrassing, but it's not going to get better until he's gone. Yeah. Unfortunately, to say it, you know, what's funny though, you don't hear sell the team that often in Cleveland, because if you sell the team, where are they going? What happens? They go to Baltimore. So they're, they're a little more, so by the way, to go back in time with it when we first started doing this show, when everybody was screaming sell the team, there was a very real potential that if the boards had sold that team, they would not be in Detroit right now. Yeah. Yeah. And when that, when you have a stadium coming up and Ford feels an old stadium now, believe it or not, it is one of the 10 oldest stadiums in the league right now. It's tied with a couple other ones. But if you went to Houston and went in the energy, it reliant and you saw how incredible that place is, that stadium is two years younger than Detroit. You go to some of the new stadiums or like the New York stadium, Levi's out in San Francisco where I have not been yet. But some of the other newer stadiums is like, wow, man, like not that Ford feels bad, but there are things that other places can do that Ford field can't, um, the parking there's, you know, there will be a push sooner than later. And it's, uh, it's a life that if you grand old barn, don't like it. Yeah. We're getting to them. You know, since Cincinnati has even upgraded some, it's still, that's we still all brown. Yeah. You know, Lucas oil field in Indianapolis, which is roughly the same age. Yeah. Just a little bit older. Fantastic. I think. Um, and they, where they're located in their downtown is they've got a little bit more to do more things around it than what Ford field does. So it's, uh, there's places of minuses too, but that's going to come up at some point. And I just keep in mind that if, you know, if the fords have to sell, if she laughs to sell, whatever, um, there will be interests that are trying to move the lions out of Detroit. That's just the way Detroit's a small market. It's growing though. That's it. It is growing. Had it been sold in 2019 ish 2015 ish. I don't know that it's into the lines or to Detroit lions right now. I generally don't know that they are because the market got so small is one of the smaller markets. I mean, I remember when I was in radio in Detroit, we were the sixth largest market in the nation. And now it's like I was 16th. No, it's the medium or medium market. I think it, I think it's 23rd it's not even that high anymore, which is crazy. Um, yeah, cause I do remember actually when I lived in Houston, Houston went from being number five to number four and seeing Antonio went from number 10 to number seven, um, seeing Antonio's a massive city. They don't have it. They don't have an NFL team yet. It will. Yeah. So the next thing you know, this is going there. So let's talk about this Detroit, but let's talk about this team this year. This Ford is in fire. It takes a little more. That whole concept that's that's been laid out by Dan Campbell and the leaders here. This game, look, the lions have faced a lot of different and overcome a lot of different types of uphill battles, we'll say, they've challenges throughout the year. The hutch loss. I mean, look, the guys, what's still number number three in pressures and has it played for half of the season at this point, right? I mean, holy cow, um, you think about losing a hutch. What that means to a defense and a defense like ours. You think about where the safety or this, this secondary was last year where the line is this year, the injuries that we've had along the way on the, on the offensive line with a deck out for a while and the suspensions of JMO is just as he seems to be cresting and what this team has gone through. And then you see a game like this that for all intents and purposes, this game would have been a Detroit lion. The lines would have been blown out. They would have been give it would have been over at the half. They would have come out. Like Baltimore last year. Yep. Another 20 some points scored on them and they had a chalked it up and come back great this year. Here's a fourth. It had been just another blowout and frickin embarrassment and there'd be all these conversations golf camp. You know, there's no good as a quarterback. This coach is no good. We got to replace them should, should, should Alan go back to making the calls was one of the famous ones. So yeah, all, all of that, that crap going on. This team, I mean, we've, we've talked about it before, how they've taken on the persona of Detroit, the persona of Dan Campbell. But this team has truly been forged in fires in fire. And you think about what the players feel after a game like this and a season like this and where they're at. We can't lose. They have to be in this place. Nothing is going to beat us. Nothing is going to break us. Nothing is going to stop us. They had a loss and ate it. We both stay. They're going to take another one. It's one they probably shouldn't take this season. It'll be, it'll be something, some reason, something ugly, whatever we're going to eat. But yep. But that's, they're going to eat that up and they're going to, they're, they're going to take it the right way. I, I genuinely believe it. After this game and what they showed in this game and get heat against Houston, I don't think there's anything out there that can break this team. Nothing out there. If you want a team that's built and has the mindset and has all the pieces to make a run and a win in the Super Bowl, this Detroit Lions team is it. You can see it in every player, the selflessness in which they play the selflessness of the staff and the coaches and the, and the intense focus on the outcome and the success and supporting one another and sharing the glory across the team. This is a group. This is a group that's different, much, I mean, I, I can, I'll make a comparison back to the, the Scotty Bowman hockey teams that finally won the cup in Detroit after so many close runs and so many heartbreaks and all that. They were different. They were catalyzed after that, that Colorado lost the season prior and Claude Lemieux Satan steal his soul piece of crap. I hate that man. I will forever, ever hate Claude Lemieux, but that, that just solidifies what Mr. McCarty does. I got his, his box of gloves signed. So fuck you. Lemieux. That's right. I've seen that. Incredible. Yeah. Yeah. That just catalyzed and, and, and, and, and just sent that team into what was a dynasty. I feel like this is the year that this team has been catalyzed and, and, and, and kind of just what's the word scorched, whatever that would say, heat word. I don't know. In the same way. Galvin. Thank you. Galvinized. It's a steal. In such a way that they just won't let anything stop them and then you layer the aliens in and it's fucking all over for anyone that gets in their way. It's, it's, it's, it's like 182 something. Try to think now. Yeah, I, I just, they're going to have adversity. Um, every team has it, all it's more lost to Cleveland somehow. I don't know how. Um, they, they're ability to bounce back from that. That's the lions are modeled after they're really good teams that's consistent winning teams. And I think that's what we want to see. They're going to get to number one seed there. Look, they're going to lose a couple of games, but you know what? Philly's going to drop a game somewhere here. Um, Dallas might give them a death gasp as bad as the Cowboys are. And by the way, if you bet the season under win total on the Cowboys, you can collect it today, just two, just you can actually collect them last week. Oh my God. I love that. Riz. Thank you. I anything, any fuck the Cowboys. I got to add an FTC back there. I hate them just as much as it any other there are irrelevant. They are literally irrelevant to the rest of the NFL. Now as much as Jerry Jones doesn't want to admit that they are not like at least the judge, at least with the Giants who are a terrible football team, like, okay, is Daniel Jones going to be their quarterback next year? Are they going to fire their like, what's going on with like, there's a lot of, I think, I think interesting storylines going out to New York Giants because there's a core there that could be a pretty good football team quickly. If they get a good coach, I don't, I don't want to diss Brian Dable, but I don't, I think he's over his head as a head coach. I think he's a guy who probably should be a coordinator and that's where he should stop at Johnson, listen to this, don't listen to this, stop, stop, tune out, this is a terrible show. Look, the Cowboys like Abel, I act out, Parsons is out, Parsons hates his teammates apparently. Everybody hates Mike McCarthy. They're blinded by their owner, literally, like, it's just so much stupid shit going on there. It cares. Yeah, show me more Washington games, show me some air, by the way that when the line's heading is to Arizona, looking pretty good right now, that's a first place team. They're playing real well, real good football right now. I'm kind of glad we got them out of the way when we did and I kind of hope that they lose on their way into the playoffs because the way Tyler Murray plays is the kind of way that the Lions struggle in quarterbacks. And as good as Jalen Hurts is, Tyler does it faster and that kind of scares me a little bit. I feel like Dable is a coach, Dallas is the worst thing we've played so far. Dable is a coach that can succeed if he's got a team that's built. I don't think he has what it takes to elevate a team to success. I think he'd take a successful team if you lose a coach and continue success. Mike McCarthy, I don't think he can coach anymore. I don't think he belongs in the NFL as a coach. I honestly, I'm not trying to dog on the guy. Not a fan. His Packers roots kind of make me ill, but I just don't think he's got it. I think the league has passed him by and just the look of shock on his face. Dallas media would agree, but then look at his shock on his face every game. Like I didn't see that coming. No, bro. I come in here fricking head coach in the NFL. You guys see everything coming. If you're surprised, you're cooked, you're done. I have a feeling he's put a fork in him. We beat him all and this line, I mean, Riz, you've been involved in sports your whole life. Right. And the winners, the true champions are teams that like Michigan last year, right? Bet. Right? That kind of thing, there's this galvanization of we can take on the world and win. And we're proving it every week. This is what this is what I think was finally sealed with this team against in this comeback and this victory on the road in Houston on this massively long, what three out of four road games, right? I mean, this is kind of a tough stretch and they're one and they're eight and one, man, they're eight and one, eight and one. I did not think it would be eight and one very, very pleasantly wrong on that. Yeah. Yeah. I'm going to be wrong about it. I thought a couple of games here and there now, again, they're going to drop what I don't know which game it's going to be. It's not going to be this week. The Colts maybe? I don't know. Like. That's a lot. I still think. I don't know. I think Buffalo is going to be a real tough one. Buffalo is going to be a good challenge. And I'll tell you it'll be a tough one. And so the two that I think are thanksgiving the bears and unfortunately at home and Buffalo, unfortunately at home are the two. Why? Those are not doing post game shows for those. Ah, I'm going to be at the Buffalo game. A dear, dear friend is getting married the day before and that's right and I go. I will not be there. Sorry, but I can't make it. Oh, no. I know. I was hoping we could dance with each other's wives. That would be cool. Yeah. Because it's like, what was it? It was a recipe. Oh, it was was an animal house where they switched the two dudes with the girls, like the, the size. Yeah. We could have really lived that moment, bro. Hey, dude. Oh boy, yeah, that's, that's, yeah, I wish I could be there, but I can't. Oh, yeah. So then we got that in the Buffalo game after we, we may do something like a live stream out from, from the, uh, for field and then on the line and all that, but it'll be definitely different than the normal post game show, but, um, yeah, so those are the two that I think for that reason, but, you know, tell me a hundred percent win, I mean, you're, you're running great with, with doing the post game shows, um, I unfortunately did not tune in this week. I was busy. Um, this was one of those games people, I think for listening to the show, if you listen to the future, you know, I love to pre-write as much as I can. That game ended. I had nothing. I didn't have a title. Yeah. You had a rewrite. I didn't have to rewrite anything. I'm just like, I don't, I got nothing cause I, even at halftime, I'm like, you know what? Activate chat. They're, they're still there. Like they are still close in this game. Houston is not the kind of team, the way that they're constructed now to put a team away and they didn't. And, uh, Liam McNeill deserves a lot of credit for how good he was up the gut. Josh Pascal deserves a ton of credit. I actually finished the film study today after I got my internet back and I could not, and Russ Brown and I were chatting behind the scenes about it, we could not fluff up Josh Pascal enough. He played great the other night, uh, was great to get him into the lineup and have him make an impact. They can play. That's what you need. Yeah. Yeah. And now the fact that he's going to shoot down the depth shirt a little bit because the Darius is in, I feel a lot better about the pass rush. It's still not as good as it can be, but every team had every team, including Kansas City as vulnerabilities and flaws, you know, bringing to overcome those from good coaching and complimentary football that Dan Campbell talks about all the time. That's how you, that's how you become a champion because you can, you can have a flaw, but it doesn't matter because everything else is strong enough. I absolutely believe that's what these lines are with this pass rush. Everybody's like, oh, you got to be a part like, okay, um, Kansas City, they don't run the ball. They don't block well, like, they don't catch the ball all that well. They just keep winning. Yeah. Like they find ways to overcome the Ravens, their wide receivers are tiny, like they find ways to get it done, you know, that they, they don't always play all that clean. Like, yeah, the lions are flawed too. They have to be able to overcome them with great complimentary football. We saw that the other night, we saw in Tennessee where they kind of took a collective crap and the special teams won the game for them. Yep. That's, that's why I'm so bullish on this line, because they have so many different ways to beat you and they don't have to play. The offense doesn't have to be perfect. Jared Duff doesn't have to put up 300 yards and they know they can beat you any way they want. I don't say any way they want. They can beat you any number of ways and they're not worried that they won't. Mike Hodges, great to see you guys back in the saddle. Yeah. I'll go to the, the post game. Just so you know, this is the second time I'm going to do it this week. I'm flying out after the game. I don't get to where I got to be and I got a 730 meeting in the next morning. I don't even land until 1 30 in the morning where I'm going. I got to get a car. I got to get a hotel check in and get unpacked there. But why? Because we don't lose and that's, we don't have to make our sacrifices. We have to make our sacrifices. Now we are back in the saddle next week because I'm out. We're not going to do one Rizzle Dood videos again. We will do a Thanksgiving week show, the pair of us earlier in the week that week, but we won't have a post game show on Thanksgiving. And Hodges says we are not losing on Turkey Day to the Bears. I hope, I hope so. It doesn't mean that they have to lose if we don't do a show, but if we don't do a show, they can't, they, it's, they're just, they're just dangerous enough and I won't give the Bears for grunging credit. Their secondary is pretty good when Tyreeks Stevenson has his head on and it's been up and has assaulted it too much, but they, they, in theory are difficult. They stay away from his exes and owes match up. You better stay away from Tyreeks or so, then, they can bring it up there too. I mean, he's got a little something for him, I think what, I can't believe that happened to him. A defensive line is a wall, they're building one brick at a time, my friend. There's a million, oh geez, there's a million, oh, all right. Let's go. Let's, let's roll. I got, he owned it. I'm glad he owned it. Yeah. I, I, I will forever love James Houston because I feel terrible for that to happen on national TV like that. No person, he's like, we sit here and we have fun with it or you're having a good time, but it's not out of that malice. It's like, if you laugh it off and you make it funny. It just, the sting goes away, man. I promise the sting goes away and it's just becomes whatever and nobody cares. But if it was, if you let it get to you, it becomes, then it becomes a thing that sticks like that did the back of your pants. Okay. Stop it. They're playing on turf. What the hell happened? Don't give it to them, frame it, frame them and sell it for fricking for charity. You could somebody, some, some scat freaks. I'm just happy that they got a lot of pressure in this game. You know, the Texans don't have a very good offensive line and the Lions took advantage of it. And I was very happy to see that and it was a very fortuitous weekend for Will Anderson to not be playing because Dan Skipper at left tackle needed about two thirds of the game before he settled in and Graham Laskow continues to be a problem and we're going to probably have talked more about that as time goes on, they're mitigating it fairly well, but the left side of the line, especially the first half of this game was rotten and that can't happen. And on the defensive side of the ball to get the crap kicked out of you, but then come back the way they did, that's, that's good news. So all right, let's, let's go to the next one. Long live Brian Branch, long live Carlton Davis, having the game of his freakin life that that played the second interception that he made, by the way, the pictures from, from the photographers that were there where he's up like that, great, incredible, fantastic camera work, good job guys, Tony and Mike and what's that guys name? I can see him. I can't think he was named, you know, so I know who he is, but they did a great job. But that was a blown coverage like they were, they were playing a little bit of zone and Carlton and Terry on sort of looked into like Carlton just went, he made the play and there was a little bit of pressure, just a token enough pressure that it made Stroud hold the ball half second longer. They gave him enough time to get there complimentary football within the same unit. This defense is doing a fantastic job of that. They know they're not getting that immediate pass rush like Hutch used to give them. So they know that that coverage, they're going to start up a little bit closer to the line. Cover one, they got to be a little bit tighter, you know, the safety's going to creep up just a little bit more because the pass rush isn't going to get home as fast, but they're getting coverage that James Houston sack. That's a coverage sack. I think it was 4.1 seconds on that one. That's a coverage sack. What was the last time the clients got a freakin coverage sack, Chris? Two weeks ago, but before this year is a long, long time, but they've gotten actually two or three this year, so not to steal your thunder there, but branch eight, we didn't give them enough love. We have to shout out branch, the speed that I believe was Arnold who blew a coverage and branched it. I got it. Don't worry. I know I'm covering this other guy, but we got to get over here and cover this guy because I see they're throwing the ball over there. Let me let me cover 20 yards and break up the play. Like what? The speed out like Tom Grossey, Grossey, God bless him for being so right about how dumb Green Bay was, but there was a whole bunch of teams before him just as stupid. Brand branch is a gift from God himself. Oh, my God, this guy or the aliens, whatever, but he is an absolute mystery. He's a sacrament. He's just absolutely fantastic. Him in the pyramids, right off the fly and saucer, man, both of them. Why the teams are going to regret that idea, it's, I'm just, I'm personally happy that I had him rated. He was my number 18 player in that draft. When the line started that draft, they had the number 18 big victory out of it. I'm like, oh, this works great, it was a very, very easy, easy guy to like. By the way, we are going to start doing draft stuff. Russ and I talked about a little bit. I have a new personnel, people with me at Lion's Wire, we are going to start doing a little bit of draft video stuff. Some ideas on who the lions can get to, sticking at number 32-ish, pick the number 64-ish. We don't have a lot of middle day two and day three are going to be a little bit more boring this year because we really have a lot of picks. It's okay. It's okay. We're good. No, we got, we've got some good entertainment in the live draft show. All right. Let's move on. Let's talk about Jared Goff. Stats don't make the man. No. Jared Goff has had some difficulties. I groked him up earlier talking about his last couple of game stats and it's, it's not been pretty, but the team just keeps winning and there's something about this. There's something about Jared. There's something about this guy and he's unflappable and I'm going to do this. He took so much shit for this and I want to play it again because this is so indicative of who he is, how his mind works and how much he believes. All I'm saying is we were a man true, we were a man resilient and the gut punches will stop. Who's gut got punched this week? He was in Texans. All 53 of them plus the coaching staff, bright, square, liver shot, they were on their knees. But Jared Goff, again, like the rest of this team, like we were talking about what this forged in fire, where he came from, where he all he tasted, he was tasted the Super Bowl. He didn't quite get there. And then that kind of, I think Mavate, I've told you this, I think Mavate is a dumb fuck. I mean, I really do. I just like him as a human being and I've never spoke to him. That's how weird it is. But I just think he's terrible with people. I really, really do. I don't like how he's caught. I don't like how he does, how he runs things. But what he did. He's certainly not cut from a lion's cloth. No, no, what he did to golf is an absolute tragedy when you see how much golf has to offer. You know what I mean? He almost ruined a man and his career and his reputation because of his, we'll call it intensity. I'll just, I'll leave it at that. He's got an intensity about him, right? We see that. We fair to be fair to when they did win a Super Bowl. So because of it, I mean, not with golf. No, not with golf. Golf's gonna win it here. Yeah. That's okay. I'm good with that. But he did. They, they, they stocked and they were all in and they had a lot of things and that's one of the things that happens when a Super Bowl, a lot of things have to go your way, right? That's even this team. That's right. Things have to go this team's way. That's right. That's the reality. But there's something about Jared golf and his, especially after that whole situation that's changed his mindset and you see in his eyes and the mouth and off. He did to the media last year and that he's not taking their shit and he's standing up for himself kind of a thing. That's not who he was. He would have eaten it. He would have heard it in LA. It would have been rattling around in there because his boss was doing that to him. You know, his coach was in his head saying the same kind of bullshit, you know what I mean? And you start thinking, am I wrong? Am I wrong? Am I wrong? You get gas lit. And he shows up here and he has support. He has some ownership and they build something that's freaking fantastic and amazing and he truly believes it and he owns it and he knows now that he can do it. He knows he has the skill. He's not questioning himself. He's truly leading and driving this. The stats for a game or a couple of games don't matter. It's the underlying man. We said this early, the only thing that beats Jared Goff is Jared Goff's head because he's a highly talented athlete. He may not run a 4, 3, 40. My nickname for him is the road runner. I love him out there. Beep, beep when he does a little run, but he's a little bit kind of a chicken look, you know what I mean? He ain't stuck in his run two yards. I love what he is and none of this that's happened has caused him to doubt. And what you see in him is an appreciation for what the defense did to win this game, what the defense did and what special teams did in the Tennessee game, right? It's not, "Oh my God, I didn't do this. Oh, I'm worried. I'm nervous." No. He's driving. He's a leader and he's a leader that can step back and allow other people to be the ones that drive the win and carry the team because he knows you can't do it all the time and you have to be accepting and allow the team as a whole the function. It's not the stats that make Jared Goff and we can see it with these couple of games because we still pulled wins out and he did what it was needed. That last drive, just to get him to where Bates could get that ball through the through the uprights, right? I was questioning whether you run it again on third down. I was like, "Why not get a couple of yards?" And it's like, "Well, everybody knows what you're going to do." You know what I mean? It gets a little bit like it's been a funky game so far. I get it. I'm not going to disagree, especially because we got it through the posts. But Jared Goff in that moment carried us in the second in the in the in the second quarter got us everything we needed and he definitely relying on the run game, but to make that work. He had some key throws that I'm in raw. That pass the I'm in raw. Oh my God. Beautiful. Jamo catching that ball when he got folded in half. My God. Yeah. I tweet it out. That's... Jamo last year does not make that catch. There's two catches he had in that game that Jamo of the past doesn't make. Yes. Yes. And it's so easy for this team to say, "You know what? Once been twice shy three times a lady, sorry buddy, but we can't keep doing this." But they saw something, they believe in him, they believe in golf, even when it started kind of poorly for him. Their willingness to tolerate mistakes as long as the person is there and showing that they're going to get better and that they want to get better, that they care. Not everybody does that. Not every team does that. That's one of the reasons why there's such a special team, why it's so easy for fans outside of Detroit to root for it because they do things the way that you would have wanted to have been treated if you were an athlete. And so many people don't get that treatment in their life at work with their family or their in-laws or their employment, they just don't get that treatment. And the Lions do it right and it works. They're good people doing good by good people. They're very good at filtering out who belongs and who doesn't. And I think as we start getting into more draft things, I hope that this year more and more fans, a lot of you all do, what you had good talks about in the chat, there are people that are just like, they're not, I don't care how much they're on there, they're not playing here. But I don't think it was a great example of that. Good player, not a chance in hell he was playing here, no matter what Josie, no matter what the aliens told Josie and Anderson, he was never coming here. And you know who's telling her now, thanks to that congressional for you. Since our head might be comforting from elsewhere, Kimberly almost got fired for that board. I want to thank my boss at the time for having my back on that because every single thing that I said, one of being 100% accurate on that, she never apologized to me. Rob in Iowa, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath fan, Digit, Jalen Carrall had no chance here. Absolutely. No chance. No, no, no. We've seen him play a little bit this year. He's coming out this year and being the version that he's supposed to be, right? But nope, he's still not, he's still not, he's still not hodge, you know, no, no, he's not, he's not better than Aleem playing the same role as Aleem. He's good. He's not Aleem. I'll take Aleem. Thank you very much. Yep. Jared Goff. He's won three games in a row and I don't think he's thrown for 500 yards in those games combined through five interceptions, still won the game. Again, it's a tiki tacky with the three of them were bad. I will say that the last one, or not the last one, but the one that he threw, the Laporta missed was on Laporta. I think, I think golf threw it where he thought Laporta was going to be and Laporta didn't get there. Right. I think he sort of shorted the round a little bit. And the gen happens, the Jama one, right? He wasn't. He got hit. Yeah. Well, he, he was off his route, the long distance one that was an interception. He was, he was. A little bit. Yeah. There was also pressure on him on that one too. Yeah. And not to make excuses, but that's, that is what happens. That does happen. The C.J. Strob, the, the interception that they got off of him, that it could have been, it could have been six. Didn't work out that way. Lions made the plays. Texans didn't. They're going to make plays this weekend, but the jaguars, dare I say their defensive front can give this team some problems. Everything else on that team scares me, although Brian Thomas is a hell of a receiver. I'm not sure that Mac Jones can get it to him. Yeah. There's, there's your, there's your J orth preview, and I'm not sure. I enjoy Doug Peterson. Why he can still beat him? He'll see. I'm going to be there long. I got 10 minutes to fill. We can. Oh, what is this? I'll talk about it. I'm not sure. There is so much. One of the topics is the preview. You can not show up before we get to the topic where it's, that's the secret of the show you're given the sauce away, man. No one's going to buy the hell out of the house. If I don't have an outlight in front of me, I'm not going to. Oh my God, my big, big drink with Jim days when true purposely would not tell me what we were going to talk about on the air, tell me we're on the air, do you like my surprise reaction? We thought I was more honest that way, but I'm glad you're doing well on Wayland. Learn the gas station free plug for anybody. If you're in the southern area of Grand Rapids or northern Kalamazoo and you have marijuana needs, go see my guy Big Drew at the gas station in Wayland. He will take care of you. Nice. I'm heading over there now. All right. Let's talk about a quick overview of the injury situation. Lions and Jags. Both. Yes. There's two I want to talk about that really aren't going to affect the game. One Derek Barnes in the building asked is he had a schedule? He said, I will be such a fucking lions answer. Derek Barnes, man. Get well soon, brother. It is a great answer. Yeah. Yeah. It is. And God, again, it's one of those things where you see him just surging and this happens and it's like just F me, man, F me, um, love to see him back as soon as possible. Love to see him ahead of schedule. Miss him. All right. He's one of those guys you root root root for, right? And just hope he doesn't break one when he comes back. Now, was he's playing well, but he's not Derek Barnes. No, no, he will tell you that too. Yeah. He's doing a pretty darn good job, but Derek Barnes, you see a little bit something more. Yes. 100%. But why don't you go on these injuries? Because there's hutch drops by. I don't know if this one made the, the, the, the news or not hutch drop by a couple of times. He was there actually really like a couple of weeks ago. And then said, Hey, everyone. And just got the love. It's a great place for these guys to show up and get a feeling, get a sense and talk to the folks and really kind of get a, you know, that, that kind of bolster to the morale, hutch. Just a great kid. I mean, he's going to the games. He's, he's, he's, he's all in. This is a guy that's 110% alliance player, a Brad Holmes player, a Aaron Glenn player, a Dan Campbell player, I don't, you know, a Calvin product, Calvin, you know, a player, a shepherd. I don't care. He's at everybody. He's a Detroit line. 110%. And what a, just a great pickup by this team. Just such a fantastic deal. So he's been in the building a couple of times. Good to see him there with the boys. Let's talk about the game, game affecting guys, Samwell, La Porta, not related to Giuseppe Weber's donate, but Samo Porta is, is looking like he's not going to be there, bro. And that really sounds, sounds that way this week, Dr. Lial put up a piece of lines where I actually published it just before I came on, doesn't expect them to play this week. I don't either. It sounded like from Dan's press conference earlier this week that we will, we will not see Samo Porta this week. Nothing serious long term, but it's one of those where if he played and aggravated it could be long term. That's to jump ahead, that's where Taylor Decker was last week, like he could have played. If it was a Super Bowl, he would have played, but it's one of those where he could have also aggravated the injury and then a, a week off versus missing four weeks or weeks with Dan Skipper as your left tackle or one week with him. I think that's a pretty easy choice to make. Yeah. Yeah. Decker will be listed as questionable this week. He's already let that kid out of the bag. I kind of think he's going to play, but I, I hope that it's one of those where maybe to Marco and Jones or Dan Skipper are playing left tackle in the second half when we're winning 35 to six. Oh. Yeah. Folks, some folks might be seeing lag right now. This is a YouTube thing. We're fully connected and I, my apologies for those that are feeling that whole, it's, it's working. We're going to be doing our thing. So it says it's successfully back. It should, it should refresh itself. So no, we're, we're, we're rock solid here where I'm looking, I'm at the, the two gigabit speed. So we're, we're there. Uh, okay. So we got that going. Um, then from the, um, the other side of the fence, we have a Trevor Lawrence, also known as Joey. Whoa. He's out. Oh. He's out. Um. Um, Joey Lawrence, he's out and, uh, they have the buy coming up. So they're going to give him a little bit of a rest. Yeah. That's exactly right. Um, that's not the one where if they, if they had to win this game, he could play, but they're, they're rest airing on the side of caution. Let's talk real quick about the guys who are coming off of IR, bro, Mark, um, his clock is up. I believe it's Thursday. Uh, that's one of the reasons why there is an open roster spot right now. They wave somebody and we, so that's it. Yeah. The Isaiah Thomas was gone. He's back on the practice squad. Now, um, up a new splash, uh, that that is his, that is, bro, Mark's spot. Uh, you got iffy and, uh, uh, mostly they got, they got their clock started. The lions will use every last second of the 21 day window, which means not this week and not next week. They'll be active the week after that, um, that's Thanksgiving week. They will not, they will, even if they could play, like they could very well be 100% today. And one of them might be they're not going to be active before they have to be. That's the way the lions do business, um, and bro, Mark probably could have played each of the last two weeks, but that's the way the lions do business. It is. It is. It is. I can argue with that. It's working. Yeah. So that's, that's, that's the life of life of the injury look at the lions right now and the, and the jags, um, and, and look, having them with that rest in the mid season to allow them to take the big run, um, the, you know, the, the bi-week was early this year and when you can, and when you're performing well, you don't rush the guys back, you let them get the rest they need. You let them get perfectly healthy. So there's no nagging anything and then they can carry you through to win that super ball. And that's, that's the way the lions have done this since the beginning. And I think we're having. It's so important that the depth on this team is unreal. It's unprecedented in lions land. We've never had this good of depth at so many different spots. Yeah. Um, the one spot where we're challenged by it offensive line, we seem to be doing okay there. I mean, we, we look, we're certainly being tested on the defensive line. I think by and large, we're handling that about as well as can be expected. I'm very excited to see what is that area Smith offers this team. I've been very bullish on him. I'm very happy that he's here. I, I'm not sure he's going to get any sacks, but remember the Jaguars, they're playing without their regular tackle camera, but it's on my arm. So yeah, sorry. Since a rizz is giving us a segue, let's go right into the Jenkins and Bill Jaguars game preview. You can see the screen. You've got the outline right there. Okay. Sorry. Missy. I need a producer. We need to get you a volume. You're the dart. Okay. I got a lot of sleep last time, my mind's everywhere. I got like nine hours of sleep. It's insane, I never get more than five and a half hours in the night. It's bananas. It's like for a year now. Okay. So let's talk about, let's talk about it. The Jaguar and Mr. Risen about your Jacksonville Jaguars. Yeah. So they are the Jaguars, I need to sit the way that the Jaguar guy and BBC does Jaguar. It's almost like an elegant Jaguar. Anyways, we're going to smoke them. We are what? I mean, and a half point favorites. That was before Trevor Lawrence was going to play. Mac Jones sucks. That's a story there. Brian Thomas is really good that they have receivers. They have some talent. Christian Kirk is not exactly working out for them. Probably should have maybe considered that offer from Detroit a little bit more, maybe buddy. Maybe? I don't know. They do have a defensive front that's formidable. They have some talent. Josh Heinz Allen. I don't want to worry about Walker when he's not committing game losing penalties in Minnesota. When your defense holds the Vikings to four field goals and you can't beat them because your number one overall pick is a dumb ass. Hold his weight. Seriously, if you watch the end of that game, like they made the stop. They were going to get the ball back and he makes a dumb ass penalty and they lose because of it. You know, Hutchinson doesn't do those things. He's not a bad football player and they do have some guys up front that their linebackers are fast. They're not the same as they were last time we played them. When we beat them, okay, that was a glorious game. That actually, I looked back to that last Jacksonville game as the real turning point for this franchise. I watched that game in Indianapolis. I was with my son for that weekend and we were, I was out and I watched it on my laptop while he was playing volleyball tournament and my God, I went crazy and I had all these people because we're there from, all these people crowding around my laptop and we're going nuts. Like that was the time where I realized this team's got something. That game was what? 40 to 14, I want to say? Yeah. Yeah. I can see that score coming up again. Ooh, sexy time, sexy time. This is one of those games. This is, this is a trap game. This is a game. Who was it? Who was it that said that? Let me look in the chat because I want to give him credit. It can be a trap game. Here, my conscious, the old lions to turn Mac Jones into Joe Montana for a day, not these lions, very, very true. And this is where my fear is mitigated. Again, there's going to be losses this year and they may be inexplicable losses. It could be. It could be that one of the, you know, we wind up with maybe I'm just making this number up. I'm not saying this is going to happen. Don't take this as a prediction. They could have four losses for the rest of the season, right? For example, they could, it could happen, right? That's still not a 13 and four is a great season, right? So that's, let's not think about it anymore. One of those losses could be the Jaguars. I'm sorry. One of those losses could be the Jaguars, right? I mean, it could be. It happens in football, though. That's a weird thing. It happens, man. And it's, it's sometimes the pasta team, some, all kinds of things, like the next game is a really important game. Is that what we're looking for, right? It's, you know, we got a short week coming up. Maybe we're going to play some guys a little differently than they would, right? Because it's a game we're going to win these kinds of things. I don't think it's going to happen. That's not at all my prediction. My prediction, if I had to make one, would be to take the over, because the Lions, our defense needs to get right game. Jared Goff needs to put down those big points again and remember what it feels like. The receivers need to catch balls, gets lots of yards. I just feel like the Lions, the Jacksonville Jaguars here are going to be the poor. I'm sorry. The poor recipients of the Detroit Lions need to kick the shit out of somebody that is at James Houston. And he brought it back together, Chris, I'm proud of you. I'm sorry. I couldn't help it. And it's, they're just going to beat, you know, you're going to beat on the slow kid in this one. I apologize. It's not the right thing to do. But this is, this is what I believe is going to happen. And we, as a Detroit Lions team, were that kid they got beaten on for years. And so don't feel bad about it. Most people won't. I'll feel a little bad because they're players and they work hard. They take pride in what they do and they've sent their whole lives getting there. And I understand that. But this is one of those games where the Lions are just going to overpower the snot. It's not going to be sexy. I don't think there's going to be a whole lot of trick plays. I think it's just going to be raw brutality. Just going out there, having a schoolyard fight. And it's going to be the kid that was oversized for the grade beating the snot out of the run. And it's going to be just an ugly, ugly massacre. And I just feel like that's what we're going to see. And again, those are those games are fun. But if they can get like by the time it's like 175 to one, you're like, man, how did anyone score one point in football? Like you forget that by the time it's over because you're like, I don't want to make it for dinner, right? Scoring. I mean, it's just, it's just, it's a different kind of game. It's not as fun. But it is something that you kind of love to stunt on the other team after it is a fan. Like, we scored. You scored one point. You never did that before because you got beat. Yeah. You know, we beat the hell out of the Titans on the scoreboard. But that game was there, I say, closer than the final score. And Nikki, like, hope this one is not like that. That's what I want. Yeah. 100%. Oh, man. Oh man. Oh man. Okay. So that's where we are, Riz. That's the, did you give a score? Did you give you numbers for what you thought this is going to be? You know what? I'm going to say 36 to 13 lions win. Okay. Um, I don't think they get that. I don't get that. I don't think they get 13. I think they might get nine. I think it's going to be a couple field goals and then they can anymore and they're going to beat beat beat, and I think we're going to be in the 40s. I think it's going to be a 40 something game for the lions that I don't have a number. It will be a game that if you're not in Detroit or Grand Rapids, the Fox affiliate will switch off of it.
