Arab and Muslim leaders demand Israeli withdrawal, US strikes in Syria - Trending
Here's what's trending in the Middle East and around the world. Arab and Muslim leaders demanded at the summit in Riyadh that Israel withdraw from occupied Palestinian territories as a condition for regional peace. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reaffirmed Riyadh's condemnation and utter rejection of the genocide perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinian people. He added, "We call on the international community to oblige Israel to respect Iran's sovereignty and refrain from attacking its territory. Last night Hamas called on Arab and Muslim countries to translate their pledges of support into action and take measures to stop Israeli aggression." In Syria, the U.S. military said it had carried out strikes against nine targets associated with Iranian groups. It said the strikes were against two locations in the country and a response to several attacks on U.S. personnel in the past 24 hours. U.A President Sheikh Mohammed will attend the Co-29 Climate Summit as part of a working visit to Azerbaijan. The climate summit kicked off in Baku on Monday with the UAE handing over the presidency and acknowledging the meeting had come at a time of complexity and conflict for the world. And in the U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has begun naming top officials for his new administration, rewarding loyalists who stuck with him during his campaign and reviving some names from his first administration. They speak for the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Elise Estefanek, underscores how the second Trump administration will bring a tough pro-Israel line to the world body. The work ahead is immense as we see anti-Semitism skyrocketing coupled with four years of catastrophically weak U.S leadership, she said. That's all from me, Taraya Abdullahi, thanks for listening more, same time tomorrow. (upbeat music)
