They're talking about saving the Astridome again. The Astridome Conservancy, which I've never heard of them, they came up with a plan today. PowerPoint presentation, a billion, a billion with a B, a billion dollar plan to save the Astridome. I've never even heard of these people. Who are these people? I don't know because the last time I heard the word Conservancy, it was in Memorial Park when they were trying to raise money to save the swimming pool and then all of a sudden that amazing renovation of Memorial Park happened, I was like, "Now that's impressive." The fact that when I saw this last night and everybody was trying to buy in like it's this big secret and Channel 2 was saying we were really trying to pry details, but they wouldn't give a budget inch to give us anything because it's going to suck because no matter what they come up with, it's going to be a mound of money that is going to be poorly spent. The structure from all we've heard in Blummer when he used to come on our show would talk about the fact that when they would go down underneath and around the field in the back areas to throw and play catch, the rats were the size of cats. I don't believe there's running water that works anymore. Why are we trying to continually save the structure? I know they're still paying on it to some degree, but it's a joke! Yeah I love the Astridome, like I'm born here, I think I was born in the Astridome actually, but I went to Astridome as a kid, I went to Euler Games as a kid, bad Euler teams right before they moved away. I remember going to Triple Headers at the Astridome with Uncle Barney. Uncle Barney would take me to Triple Headers at the Astridome High School Football. I played a high school baseball game, well I watched a high school baseball game at the Astridome. We got beaten two out of three against Brazos, Brad Linkin single handedly destroyed us. He threw a one hit, complete game, shot out in game one, hit a solo home run, they beat us one nothing and I think he hit three home runs in game three. So like I love the Astridome. Do I need to preserve the Astridome? No, especially if it's a billion dollars, like where are you getting this money? Like I don't live in Harris County, I don't live in the city of Houston, I'm not even sure I'd be taxed for this. I don't want my fellow Houstonians to be taxed for this. So like I need to know where that one billion dollars is coming from. Now I did read that if they were to tear down the Astridome and do the whole demolition and all of that, that would still cost one hundred million dollars. So it's not like there is a cheap plan, it's not like there is an easy plan. If it were up to me, I would actually try to save the roof. I would tear everything out, I would demolish everything except for the critical pillars that were needed to support the actual dome itself. And I would make it this outdoor covered picnic area. If you want to do parking shops, whatever you want to do, but I would save the dome part of it itself, build these pillars and make it basically an outdoor covered area. My thought, and I didn't know the hundred million dollars to knock it down, but my thought when I saw this on the news last night was similar to yours, why don't we just save the shell like a pergola to make it to make it something that at least people that really want to hang on to the memories can say, you know what, that was once the eighth wonder of the world and to remember it, they still keep the outer structure intact so you can see what used to be here when it was the first dome stadium. I'm fine with that. But other than that, that building is decayed. It's decrepit. It's nasty. I mean, even when they were clearing it out to try and sell all the seats and do all the things to try and, you know, get the people that had nostalgia to have some kind of a memento from it, everybody, and they let the media in and they were like, the turf smells like mold and everything was just disgusting. And there was, you know, it just seemed like there were germs all over the place. Like that's the only thing that could come to my mind was do something so that at least the outer shell is saved. So if you want to say, hey, once way back in the day, this is where they play cool, but that's it, like stop trying to make malls and casinos and this latest venture of part rodeo, part shopping, part, whatever the hell it is, part this part that and a whole lot of expensive that no one needs to pay for and they're like, oh, we've got a quick and easy plan to raise some of this money, some ain't all of it and it ain't going to work. Yeah. What is some of $1 billion? The XX wrong says $100 million is better than $1 billion. That's good math there. That's a former math major, I can tell you with a lot of confidence that that is some good math. 75 says that sounds like a good way to spend a billion dollars. Ryan says, think about all the feral cats who lose a home. King of Twitch is one of the few people that have been here all my life, been to several games of the dome. It's time to kill it. See, I wouldn't, I wouldn't hate if they just demolished the whole thing. I would understand it's time to do something. There does need to be some movement when it comes to this thing. 6375, it has a historical marker on it now, so you cannot destroy it. Oh, that's gonna be tough. 3367, I love a good PowerPoint. Who doesn't love a good PowerPoint? 1818 says, good shelter for the homeless. Let's be honest. I don't think anybody over at NRG Park wants to house the homeless if we're being kind of crude about it and being callous about it. That is the honest truth though. The folks there at NRG Park and the folks that run the NRG Park area, they're not going to want it to be a homeless shelter. No, no, no. I mean, just think Greyhound bus station in the middle of downtown and how many people were outraged and just couldn't stand having that bus station anywhere near the downtown area and realize no one's gonna be like welcoming and thinking that's the idea. And I was thinking about too, when you think about, well, what stadiums were knocked down that had more prestige or the same kind of prestige. And when you think about it, Bush Stadium in St. Louis, and they saved home plate and there's a certain spot in the parking lot where you can see the old home plate. If you want a Yankee Stadium, they knock down old Yankee Stadium, but I believe they saved home plate. Even as a multi-purpose facility like the astronaut, if you want to put two goal posts up where they used to be and home plate where it used to be and go, hey, cool, here's where that stuff used to be when the dome was right here. That's valuable real estate. When you think about all the parking and everything else that they go through with, they don't even have paid parking at the dome. And that thing is taking up so much acreage, just sitting there doing nothing and no decision is being made. I mean, they made the same kind of bad deal back in the day for the Compact Center when it was the summit. And they were paying on that until Joel Osteen bailed them out and gave them a whole bunch of money to take it off their hands. They made bad deals back in the day. And I think this is part of the reason why, because I think they're still paying on the land in the dome, but it's got to go at some point. It's funny, but like the, this, the, the Astridome Conservancy, I think that what they do is they just draw up interests like every five, 10 years or so. And they bring the media out for this, you know, giant PowerPoint presentation. My favorite part of the, the article on Houston Chronicle was they got a quote from Chris Bowman, who's the president and CEO of the Houston livestock show and rodeo. He sent an email in response to this story. He says the rodeo has not had any formal conversations with the Astridome Conservancy in more than a year. The rodeo does not support the previously presented concept as they conflict with our organization, strategic vision and operational needs. They don't want to work with them. They don't want to work with the Conservancy. So like the Conservancy is having these great plans. If you even consider it a great plan, they're just having these plans. And there's no way that it's actually going to be accomplished because they're not even working hand in hand with the Houston livestock Joe and rodeo. I don't know if they're working with like, you know, the McNair's and NRG park and all of them. If you're clashing with the Houston livestock show and rodeo, you're not getting anything done. And did you see the drawings and the renovations? I did. I mean, they look cool. They look cool. Wait a minute. But that's where that last thing that you were just reading and talking about is interesting because the renovated the renovation with the drawings had the rodeo front and center. They had, you know, this massive area to have the rodeo right in front while they had the shops up on one level and the other things at different parts of the outer stretches of the building. They're like, that's a big miss if the Houston rodeo comes back and says, we didn't agree to any of this. They're trying to put pressure on them is what they're doing. Like they come out with this master plan. They try to spark interest in reviving the astrodome and then they try to put pressure on the Houston livestock show and rodeo. That's all that this is. I mean, it's a giant dog and pony show, quite frankly, and what are the odds that this $1 billion plan gets accomplished? I put it at less than 1%. Oh, for sure. So like we have like all this attention on it, these stories, they bring out these media people and there's less than a 1% chance that this plan or a plan, anything like it ever gets accomplished. This is really posturing to borrow word from Paul, like this is posturing trying to put the Houston livestock show and rodeo's feet to the fire and ain't nothing going to happen about it. Film study like you're Jeremy Branham. No, I think that you know, ball is just posturing a 497, turn it into a Texas live type venue like in Arlington. That would be awesome. That's a great idea. We'll get into the who is real rockets or Texans in a moment. Double Rod says that what will be awesome was when Cal wants a new stadium. You mean Hannah? When Hannah wants a new stadium and they abandon NRG and build what were Astro old used to be. I actually think that's coming sooner rather than later. If this franchise wants a Super Bowl and used it again, they're not getting what it NRG. They're going to have to build a new stadium if they want a new stadium. If they ever want a Super Bowl again. I think we're starting to get closer and closer to NRG being out of date. I've heard that. It was a bit puzzling to me because understandably you could do some upgrades. Most stadiums do that have been around as long as NRG has. Everybody talks about the sight lines are good and the structure seems to be good. Why is it to have another Super Bowl here? It would have to be a complete and total new building. I guess you could renovate it. If you're going to renovate it for whatever it takes to renovate now, you might as well just get a new stadium that's probably what 25 years old? I guess. When you think about some of the other stadiums and the longevity of stadiums in the past, there's still that much that changes that drastically that you have to completely build a new stadium. I would think renovations could do it. They had two Super Bowls here that were fairly successful. I've heard the same thing you said and it surprises me. Look who gets Super Bowls though. If you're not in New Orleans, because everybody loves going to New Orleans, because it's New Orleans, all the Super Bowls go to the stadiums that have all the bells and whistles that are state of the art that are just far surpassed what NRG Stadium is these days. Jerry's World, the new one in L.A., they like to do it out in Arizona. Arizona was built around the same time, but Arizona is nicer. Well, it's Arizona too. Yeah. It's the way it's going in the NFL. How do they give the Super Bowls to? Vegas, the new stadiums, the ones that have all the bells and whistles. Yeah, many apples have one, right? NRG doesn't have the bells and whistles if we're being honest. It's a fine stadium. It's a fine stadium. You could be there forever. You could be there for another 25 years. You ain't getting a new Super Bowl. You had a college national championship game there less than a year ago. I would think that... It's a little different for the Super Bowl though. I understand, but I also would think that they're not that far off to say, "Hey, we're going to renovate and we're going to be okay." I mean, when you look at, unless you want the architectural masterpieces with all the bells and whistles of the outside the way it looks in L.A., or Minnesota to some degree with the glass, but not that much. But even the sweets and stuff, the NRG Stadium is pretty cookie cutter when it comes to their sweets. You go look at some of the sweets at the new stadiums, like their field level. They have them in the tunnel. They have them in the walkways. There's a lot, I think, that we don't even see. That's kind of in the bowels of the stadium. But I would think they were talking about when certain teams have to place elsewhere for a year or so. Fine. But if you took a year and you took the seats out in the lower level or whatever, you could do the kind of things like you're talking about, the ground level sweets, the end zone kind of living room sweets, do some of those things, upgrade to scoreboard and do more of the 360 inside outside scoreboard that a lot of the teams are going to. And it wouldn't be a complete destruction of the building and a build from scratch. Yeah. Yeah. The roof also is not great. It sucks. For 488, older stadiums have character brand on pro renovation. What character is there in NRG? Like, I agree with that with some of these older parks. I hope that they never tear down Fenway. I hope that they never tear down a Wrigley. So, like, I get it from, like, the ballpark perspective, like a Lambo. Like, that's one that I would never want torn down in New Stadium. Okay. But what does NRG have that's character? But you mentioned Lambo, and you know what Lambo did? They renovated. Yeah, they absolutely did. But it's Lambo. But it's also what we're talking about here, and it's kind of to your point on, to get another Super Bowl, is what they did, is what New England did in Foxborough. And they bought all the land around the stadium. And suddenly they created this whole tourist attraction of hotels, and shopping, and restaurants, and, like, a big Toboggan Hill, and ice skating, and all these things, so that it would bring in as much revenue and attraction and entertainment for the fans as just going to the game where they also, like we were talking about, they built an entire atrium indoors that does the same thing with restaurants, and bars, and team shops, and whatever. And then they, so they modernized everything without touching the inner bowl and the stadium itself. I would think it wouldn't be that elaborate. But they're doing that at Lambo, because it's Lambo. Like, there's no reason to do that within RG. It doesn't have the history. It doesn't have the character of Lambo. Right, but think about from a draw, because we're not going to have snow. The weather's going to be decent by the time you have a Super Bowl. If you could create one of those, they call it "Tidal Town" in Green Bay. I'm not sure what they call it in New England. But if you, it's what Crane wants to do with the land around Minute Maid Park, where if you could create that whole kind of area around the stadium, where there was a ton of stuff for people to do of all ages, then maybe that would be the attraction that says Super Bowl would definitely want to be there. Alright, 713780 ESPN. Let's go to the HRMP listener line. Robert from Tomball is going to, he's got something to say about what you had to say. Robert, you're in the hive. What's up? It's the Killer B's with Joel Blank and Jeremy Brandon. On ESPN 97.5 and 92.5. All right, so I've landed with Bobby Sloeck. Why he's good in the first half, not in the second half, because he can game plan. He can watch the film, draw up some good stuff early on. I think he has a difficult time in the second half because he has trouble adjusting. I don't think he has good fill. I don't think he has good fill as an offensive play caller. I was thinking about this yesterday. I actually talked to one of my buddies who is an offensive coach professionally. Not going to say who it is. I'm not a name-dropper. I was kicking around the idea of why not call plays upstairs. I'm a little surprised that no one has brought this up yet. Because whenever you have a struggling offense defense, a way to just shake it up to see if something changes, to see if something sticks, is to either move upstairs into the booth or to move downstairs onto the field, depending where you're currently struggling from. I think they can open up some things for him. Like, yes, you would lose some things going up to the booth. You're not going to be able to look your players in the eyes or it might impact communication a little bit whenever they're on the sidelines. I don't really see Bobby Sloey talking to the players a ton whenever the defense is out on the field. But I think it would change the way that he views things. I think it would change the way that he sees things. Because watching the game from the field is totally different than watching the game from upstairs. I wouldn't really like him to switch it up and just see how it goes. And look, maybe he hates it. Maybe he hates it after two games and you're not seeing improvement. Okay, we'll go back down to the field. But maybe it opens up some things for him. Maybe it improves the feel. Maybe it improves his vision for the game and having the sense of some of the counter moves that the defense is giving you. I want to see what that looks like. I would suggest that Bobby move to the booth for a couple of games. I don't mind it. You think about the majority of college signal callers call it from the box. You think about the fact that it's not only what you're calling, but to your point, you know, it's like watching your film sessions. You're watching it with the more of the aerial view so that you can see how the defense is set up, where they're moving, where you have to adjust to, where the spots in the defense and the holes in the defense are. I definitely think that there's some value to that and you're right. A lot of guys and teams, when they do switch things up, do do that shuffle. You can send them one way or the other either down on the field if they haven't been or up in the box. I think up in the box gives you a different perspective of like the X's and O's of seeing how everything is developing. And then from an offensive perspective, like how would you attack that as opposed to ground level when a lot of times on the other side of the football field, it's harder to see some of the things that they're doing, you know, even pre snap, but specifically, you know, as they're getting into the actual snap, it's not a bad idea. Yeah, I would just want to see what it looks like. Like maybe it changes the way that he views it. And this is the time to do it. Like you things are sputtering for you offensively. You're 15th in offense. You're 17th in points per game. You're 22nd or outside of the top 20, an offensive DVOA. You haven't scored a touchdown in the last four games. Like you're trying to change things up just for the sake of changing things up right now. Anyways, to me, this is the time that you would get that done. So I asked my buddy, too, who's again, a professional coach. I asked him what he thought of just, you know, an offense that scores six points less per game in the second half in the first half. You know, maybe we're just blowhards. I don't know what we're talking about. He said that that's a good sign of an offense, not making good adjustments at halftime to counter what the defense is showing you on the flip side. The opponent defense is able to gain an advantage by making those halftime adjustments to stop the offense. So about what we were thinking also asked him about the idea of like, you know, he said he's been watching some of the Texans too. Like he's had it. He's not completely unfamiliar with their personnel and their scheme. He said that he thinks that Bobby actually draws up good stuff. He says that he, you know, he thinks he's a good play caller, but he thinks that their offensive line is the biggest reason that they're struggling to really move the ball, which again, you know, not really rocket science here. But I was like, well, why don't we just run a bunch of quick game stuff? Like, why don't they run a bunch of short passing and all of that stuff? He's like, yeah, they probably should. But he also thinks this is a good chance that Nico Collins is going to kind of fix all of that because whenever you add that elite wide receiver that it can certainly change how, you know, you're attacking offensively, how the defense is defending you. But yeah, he also mentioned he would like to see them be more run oriented. Like, I know they tried against Detroit. They just couldn't get the ball moving a hole on the ground. But maybe that was just an anomaly. Maybe that was a one off and then build off of that with like play action, stuff like that. You know, and we were talking about it when the run was successful and the pass was struggling and the pass rush was just every play. But, you know, going back and looking at it and then watching some of the games later in the in the weekend and then even the Monday night game, when you look at how many and you consider McDaniel, one of those guys that's a, you know, above average offensive play caller, when you start thinking about the fact that what they were doing early in the season when mixing was getting off a little bit more was between the tight ends and even sometimes an offensive lineman, they were running guys in motion and giving them almost a running start. A lot of what Detroit does when they were freeing up some of their running backs that I noticed on Sunday night is even if it wasn't Sewell, they would run the tight end, you know, in motion to the side where they're going to run the football and then have them kind of pound the hole first and then have a guard pulling guard or someone else get into the hole after that, open up the other side of it and that would give you a more defined running lane. There's ways that you can do this. I really believe that a lot of the credits should just be to the Detroit defensive line last week because Joe Nixon's been successful when he's been in the lineup for the majority of the season. I'm curious this week to see what they do against Dallas and if Joe Nixon can get back to where he was because I feel like they should be able to do that. I just feel like Detroit had one of those run stopping defensive lines that's been good all year. I think that the Texans do more sophisticated stuff with their offensive line running the football than you're giving them credit for. Like they do that stuff too. Like they move their offensive lineman. They move them all over the place. My big thing was when you're not able to run the ball, that's when you make the adjustments. We talked about the feel. It's not like to your guys' point that your guy that we also said the same thing. We feel like, look, he's got a good grasp of calling a game offensively. He knows the right plays, but he doesn't have the right feel sometimes. And sometimes whether it's at halftime or just like D'Amico said from series to series, if you know that you are struggling and Nixon's frustrated and they're not running the football, then maybe you go to when you want to try and get the if you're going to stay hell bent on running the football, then try to do more of those things. I think that they do. Like I think that you're calling them the Nella and I really don't think he's a Nella. I'm not calling them the Nella, but if you look and you looked at the tape more than I did, but I looked at it twice. And when I looked at it, when they were struggling to run the football, I did not see as much and the frequency that I saw previously of doing the kind of using the tight end, maybe using an extra offensive lineman that I'd seen in the past. Well, they don't really do the extra offensive lineman much. Like they never really have an offensive lineman as a tight end, but they do a lot of two tight end sets. They'll bunch up their receivers. I think what's I think it's more about predictability than it is sophistication. I think they tip their hand a lot with their formation and where they're aligning than it is some sort of like, you know, rudimentary running game. 8341 dang seriously should move to the booth. See the game a lot better. 9301 moving up to the box is a dang good take. Bravo fellas for 488. So slowly is admitting he's not interested in making halftime adjustments because he assumes the other team isn't either. That's to the quote we were we played yesterday. Well, he's like, yeah, these teams aren't really making a whole lot of adjustments. I don't know if he's admitting to it. I think he's just giving you a little word salad. But yeah, move to the both move to the booth, Bobby. Let's see if they can get you some points in the second half for a change. Okay, 713780 ESPN HRP listener line 7137803776.
