A license plate number of a suspect vehicle was given to area agencies. It was stopped in Virginia. Keandre Jekwan White, 18 of Denville, has been arrested and charged with six counts of breaking and entering a vehicle, three counts of larceny and five counts of larceny of a firearm, all felonies. White is in jail in Denville, no bond. He'll be in Rockingham County District Court, November 21. Also, three juveniles are being charged. Eden Fire Department responded to several fires yesterday. Almost two million dollars worth of sewer line improvements have been completed on Westin Boulevard, Collins, Capel, Cobb, Idol and West Decatur streets. All of the clay pipe was more than 40 years old. It's been replaced with approximately 7,000 linear feet of PVC and iron pipe. The project paid for with a federally funded community development block grant came in under budget by about $162,000. Most of that money will now be used for infrastructure repairs in western North Carolina. A town ordinance has been amended to address noise issues, loud vehicles, cars, motorcycles, music, equipment, sirens, bells and whistles. Construction and demolition noises outside of certain days and hours will be in violation of the ordinance. It also spells out fines. All water meters will be replaced with the latest automated system by the end of next year thanks to a four and a half million dollar state grant. The current meters are 30 to 40 years old and less sufficient, sometimes reading incorrectly. Madison has a new customer service policy. Actually it's a town's first customer service policy pertaining to water, sewer and garbage. It puts in writing things like establishing service, deposits, refunds and adjustments, billing and bad checks. In the past, according to town manager Amy Roberts, the finance department said, well, that's how it's always been done. The new policy establishes clear guidelines for everyone, staff and residents. During public comments, Mary Martin with beauty of Madison 383, Order of Eastern Star, invited everyone to a special event honoring neighborhood heroes at the downtown Stonewall event center December 14th at five. Among those being recognized, William Phillips, Mayor of Madison, $25 donation. The recent veterans parade is getting lots of positive comments. The town contributed $5,000. The mayor said next year they'll take it to the next level. It's time for Christmas bonuses. Madison has 33 full time employees, everyone's getting a $500 bonus, a total of $16,500. Not mentioned in the meeting, but I talked with fire chief Jim Ritchie later. Madison's first new fire truck in 25 years will be in service by late January, early February. Upcoming events, downtown Christmas stroll and tree lighting December 7th. Employee lunch December 20th. Offices will be closed December 24th 25th and 26th.
