William Phillips, Mayor of Madison 11.14.24

Mike Moore media. Madison Board of Aldermen meets tonight and the Mayor of Madison. William Phillips is on the line with us right now. Hey Mayor, how you doing? I'm doing fine. How you doing? I'm doing okay. Yeah. Well, I'm looking at the agenda doesn't look like a really busy busy meeting tonight. A lot of things on there. But the big one I guess is the presentation of the Good Neighbor of the Year award. That's always special. Yeah, that's always a great thing, man. And we have a great candidate tonight. And I think everyone will be pleased to find out who it was or who it should I say. Yeah. But having people in our community that you know, stay busy, have the heart and passion of Madison and being able to reward them is always a positive. Yeah. And you do those recognitions for a lot of different individuals all through the year and individuals, yep, business leaders and people in the community and law enforcement and fire department and everything else. I think that's always important. Yeah, always do a good job with that with the presentation and the award and that always looks nice. So yeah, so excited to see you that will be tonight. Yep. And but I see also you got a public hearing here closing out a lot of infrastructure projects. Yeah, we were for the most part of the summer. We've got a grant to do some infrastructure on West End. And we've come to the close of that. So we're finalizing that part of the grant tonight. So, but I'm excited to see the completion of the work. I know for residents, it was a mess at one point, especially in the town, but they did those guys did a great job and just excited to see the change. Yeah, that's exactly right. Okay. And let's see, I see some other new business here and anything particular you want to mention on that? I think one thing I do want to say is we're going to revisit some Chapter 11, the code of ordinance, the Noah's ordinance. I think it's going to be going to be several of those ordinance that's kind of old. And I want to look at them and try to do our best to bring things up to date and make things better for the community. And that's one of the items that we're going to look at tonight. I'm very excited to announce the Christmas polices for our project for ease. Oh, yeah, yeah. They're excited about that as well. Sure. So we're we're headed in a good direction. We've got great leadership. The town is doing excellent. And of course, you know, our history, we had some challenges like most tackles and most municipalities, but things are looking great for us. Yeah, yeah, it's it's good to we have a monthly podcast. Now, as you know, with your police chief. And so, yeah, we're getting those monthly updates on all kinds of good things. I think he's got one coming up next week, as a matter of fact, kind of shift to shift days because of some scheduling conflicts. But yeah, so yeah, we're getting good reports from the police department. And he's building a great team. There isn't a mayor. Well, Chief Hester and Captain Jones, man, they are excellent. And they're a team. Yeah. Yeah, I'm proud of the work they have, that they have done. And the officers, I'm going to tell you, man, they have really, really, it's a big change, like, like today. So I'm proud of all of them. I'm proud of the entire team and I'll be worried. I'm proud of our town manager, Amy. You know, our office, down at town, everybody's doing great. Yeah, we had a really proud also for the parade that we had. Oh, sure. Yeah, the veterans parade. So shout out to all of our veterans and anybody who, you know, served by country. So I just want to salute all of those guys. Yeah, because it's exactly right. Yeah, good turnout for the, for the veterans parade too. And I just checked my schedule quickly here. And so the mayor will be, you're doing the broadcast today, but police chief Hester will be up on the 19th. So he'll be here in our studio. And so we'll get that on our, all of our podcast platforms as well too. So, okay. So good things happening. And oh, you know, there are a lot of parades around Rockingham County. And yours, Madison made in parade, is December 14th. So that's always exciting. Looking forward to it as well. Yeah. I think going to be, I think on December 7th of December, we're going to have our downtown stroll and Christmas tree lighted. Yeah. Yeah. And I've made my jump to gun because Thanksgiving, of course, comes for Christmas and for Thanksgiving, we're going to be closed on the 28th. So we're coming up on that holiday season and it's time to spend money and smile about it. Yeah, yeah, that's right. Yeah. Good way to put it. And shop small Saturday is November 30th. So I want to support another, we need to do it all year long. But certainly emphasis on that to support our small businesses there in Madison for sure. Absolutely. And you know, the autumn leaves are falling and leaf collection is underway. It is underway. And actually, they have, they have been out working and they were just on my street two days ago. Therefore they probably was. And so I see them in town. I don't see as many leaves that I saw last year on the side of the road. It looks like they're moving a little quicker. I think last year we had some issues with, you know, some pipes bursting and it was off, you know, so but those guys are doing a great job and doing a great job. Sure. Okay. All right. Well, that kind of brings us up to date on some things. Anything else we need to mention? No, I think that's about it. So let me mention this, you know, we started having opening prayer, you know, most of the time you come into a moment of silence. And so, I mean, of course, that's still an option, but we have opened the door for opening prayer. And tonight, we're going to have the pleasure of Pastor Tori Eisler, our first Baptist Church and man. And he's going to be our opener tonight. So excited about him coming and sharing in prayer with us. Oh, yeah. I'm glad you did. Yeah. Good man. Good church. And he's a great guy. Yeah, he really is. Yeah, exactly right. He's my friend. Yeah, I called him my friend too. So that's good. And pastor to pastor there. So two good ones together there. You too. Okay. Well, I will see you tonight at the meeting and we'll get that covered and hope all goes well. And we'll talk to you again in December on this podcast. Look forward. You take care. You too. All right. Thank you, Mayor. All right. That's William Phillips, Bishop William Phillips. He is the Mayor of Madison. And you can get more information about what's happening around town.
