Mike Moore media. It's our monthly visit with Rockingham County economic development and tourism. I'm checking in now with marketing manager Tara Martin. Hey Tara, oh my goodness it's that it's that time of the year isn't it? It sure is Mike. It's definitely the most magical time of year for sure in Rockingham County with lots and lots of stuff going on. Yeah there really is. Were you going to kind of give us a holiday update because there is something countywide so let's jump right in Tara. Yes, so you know actually we're chatting before the call. You know it's funny because it is still very much false that if you start looking around especially like at our small businesses in our boutique. Christmas is very much you know here in Rockingham County. Oh yeah. So much so that you know several of our businesses have already completely decorated, specifically mishmash and reasonable. They have a beautiful beautiful set up for Christmas this year as well as say when Charlie's in Madison. You know so it you know the warm Christmas spirit holiday spirit is definitely definitely starting to take over and in fact you know not only do we have our businesses that are already decorating but we have several holiday events that are coming up starting this weekend. So you know it's definitely something happening every single weekend up until Christmas. You know and sometimes it's doubled up you know because it's so much going on across the county that we just encourage and hope that everyone tries to get out to as many of these as possible and just really enjoy and embrace the holiday spirit this year. Certainly well in just a quick note on regional too. They've got all of those photo ops there too which is kind of cool. Yes. Yes so and regional is amazing because they're downtown area they do such a wonderful job you know during October and up until actually this past weekend they had a beautiful fall display and now it is completely transformed over into Christmas and so that is just such a great spot like if you're doing a selfie tour or if you want to do you know family pictures the setup is just gorgeous and just ready for to make those memories and snap those quick pictures you know while you're at Marcus Square in downtown rainfall. Sure yeah okay all right well I keep keep going because I'm taking I'm taking notes I'm putting it on my calendar. I had mentioned today that the holiday event start as early as this weekend so actually Joya Della Moore Sellers at Autumn Creek Vineyards. They have a holiday sipping shop that's happening this coming Saturday from 10 and just four so definitely kind of stop in go ahead and start that Christmas shopping you know they'll have little vendors set up and they'll have a force their ones that are amazing several of those have made it to gold and platinum status and torque in terms of awards so that will definitely be a fun time you know there's several other little vendor events that happen in Mount Carmel Hope Church is hosting one on November the 23rd that one is in Ruffin. I have been to that one for several years and it is just a wonderful quaint little spot to stop in and find those super unique finds you know something that you're not going to find when you walk into your big box stores you know finding those super unique finds that you can give to those that are on your on your list this year so definitely encourage everyone to stop by on that one and then we get into a single I'm telling you what oh my goodness this year I cannot say enough in fact I was talking recently with Barbara Holler and who is the new city manager in Stoneville and he was talking about you know their goal this year is really to be Rocking County and and really the region's Christmas page and if you look at their itinerary they are well on their way it's not beyond being a Christmas pound this year just the number of events that they have is just remarkable you know they have their hometown Christmas light fight which is going to be something that you know not only the residents can enjoy and that's themselves and kind of decorating it out you know out decorating their neighbors but just as someone in Rocking County or visiting Rocking County it is going to be a sight to see to drop through phone call and see those Christmas lights displayed so you know they're going to have that coming up they're going to have a dinner concert in Stoneville that's going to be at the Debbie's at this center right there in downtown Stoneville so wonderful Christmas music and and that type thing their tree lighting ceremony is coming up the end of this month which is just always so magical you know each one of our parents does that as well but but that's one of the ones that's on Stoneville's itinerary for their Christmas time of events and then they have a garland wreath and bow oh my event just gonna be happening on November the 23rd so that is actually hosted by third row of Rocking County and you'll be able to decorate you know your fresh feeder or magnolia wreath at that event and then they're doing something that I think is just so super special they have the Santa's magical mailbox you know just the spirit of Christmas to me really laughs within the spirit of the holidays in our children that's when you know as an adult you tend to kind of lose that magic and spirit of Christmas but when you start really looking at the glimmer and just kind of the twinkle that are in the children's eyes as this season rolls around it brings that magic back and you know Stoneville is doing this thing where they're setting up Santa's magical mailbox where the children can actually send letters directly to Santa and they'll be delivered to the North Pole for these kids which you know is something that is just so amazing because we you know children have always written our letters to sing and I just ensures that those letters actually get the hymns so for them to do that I think it's just it's super magical it gives me the tingles you know what you mean yeah you're exactly right and then that actually brings me around to the Christmas parade or several which opens up the door for all of the Christmas praise that are happening around the county you know Rockingham County has several municipalities and I think it is just so wonderful that each one of them have their own unique look their unique feel and then also you know they have their parade that is designated especially for them so just had an order speaking of the parade kind of in order so the first one will actually be November the 24th and that's Reedville Christmas parade and they're gonna have it at 4 p.m. in downtown Reedville you know lots of floats and decorations and that type thing that will be in that parade so we definitely encourage everyone to go to that one and then the next one on the list would be the leaf field downtown or uptown Christmas parade and that is a night time parade that happens in uptown Eden formerly known as Leaksville back in the day and that was gonna be November the 29th so and I won't say I don't have it written down here but I want to say that that one starts at six if memory serves me correct six six thirty somewhere in there yeah somewhere in there and then like I said that's a nighttime parade which you know just adds a little extra I think to the Christmas spirit which you know really kind of amplifies those lights and that type thing that are displayed on the float and then the next one after that is explained it's like dissemble and Christmas pail it's gonna be November the 30th and so that one will be at 5 p.m. in downtown Stoneville and then we go back to Eden because Eden actually does host two separate parade but on December the 7th at 11 a.m. it'll be the Draper Christmas parade and that is the children's Christmas parade so that one's really kind of geared towards the holidays period of the children and really kind of you know making that special for them which all of them do but but that one is the Draper children's Christmas parade and then the last one that we have for the season is going to be December the 14th at one p.m. that's the Madison made-in Christmas parade which is one of the longest parades that we have in the entire county because Madison and Mary and are so placed together it just really makes sense for them to combine efforts and really kind of bring that part of the county together and have a parade to go from one of the day on Tans and Nate and all the way to the other downtown in Madison so that was always a really special parade as well and you know what is Christmas without a good Christmas parade I mean why not visit them all and we've got and you know the way these are our schedule we can do that you know we can get to if you love parades we've got it covered in Rockingham County that's for sure yes we do we definitely definitely have the parade covered and like I said and they're all spread out you know in each one of the municipalities it's just it's just a really great asset as a resident of Rockingham County to have that many opportunities to really celebrate this season you know so so definitely very very special yeah yeah well you you mentioned all of the parades and all of that and I've jotted them down and I know all of that will be we have that on our community calendar as well but you've got all of those listed right there or you will have them as you update things on your Facebook page yes so we have them on our Facebook page and then we also have them on our website and our website is www.visitrocoinc.com and then we have a tab up at the top that says advance you just click on that and it opens up that entire calendar so it mentions all of those holiday events and then if you're planning a trip to Rockingham County later on we have events that even go into the spring as well but that is definitely the best place to keep up with all of those holiday events is on that event calendar and then on our Facebook page under events there as well yeah yeah there's a lot there is a lot yeah and and you mentioned some a little bit of go Tara too about the magic of Christmas and how special that is and we never want to we never want to lose that that the spirit of Christmas and all of that and if you're not in the Christmas spirit yet we've already had some businesses with kind of getting an early start there with Christmas open houses and holiday things and all of that and but that's going to pick up the paces picking up now so this will certainly get you in the in the Christmas of holiday spirit for sure with all of the events going on absolutely absolutely and if you're one of those that you know really does try to make sure that you give each holiday its own specialness and don't and you're not quite ready to jump into Christmas until right after Thanksgiving then you know November the 30th is small business Saturday oh yeah so we definitely encourage everyone to the support our small businesses here in Rockman County I know that Reed still is having a known shop small Saturday or chillin with my know me so I think it's what it's called the shop small Saturday for small business Saturday on November the 30th and you know that's just a perfect time because I think you know we often can to support just because they're easy those big box stores and to shop online and you know it but we need to remember those that are right here in our community you know because those are our neighbors those are the ones that without them know we wouldn't have that strong economy that we have here in Rockman County so making sure to visit their small businesses in within the county especially on November the 30th and then like I said that allows you to get through Thanksgiving and then you can focus on the holiday season for sure right yeah yeah and you know it's so important and you've hit on it there and we've talked about it before but at November 30th being designated small business Saturday and how important that is we know that in the tax dollars and everything else but but it's important that we support our hometown home county businesses all through the year because it's challenging it's tough out there it is and you know and I think you know especially this past year I've heard so many of my small business friends saying that you know this past year economically for them has been very very hard and so it's important to make sure that if we still want the ability to visit these wonderful big heaps and and restaurants and you know all of these wonderful small businesses that we've happened in the county that when you just support them all year long just like he said because if we don't support them then they go away and then that's when we really relax what we're missing out on it they're not here yeah so we hope we never get to that point where you know we start losing those businesses so it is essential but we support them as much as possible yes indeed okay well we will not talk again before Thanksgiving probably so happy Thanksgiving and then thank you for setting us up for all of the holiday things and we'll talk again getting up more into the holiday season next month yeah absolutely my guess and like I said I just encourage because I know it was a mouthful and I'll be honest with you I didn't even touch on every single thing that we have going on here in the county for the holidays so I definitely encourage everyone to like he said visit our Facebook page and the events that are listed there and then of course our website as well thank you Terri we'll talk again soon all right you do too bye bye bye bye Tara Martin is marketing manager for Rockingham County economic development and tourism you'll find them on Facebook at visit
