more media. Hello and welcome to Rocco Live. It's Wednesday, November 20th. Yep, time to get together to talk to special folks all around Rockingham County about special things going on. And I've got a little music lined up as well. So we've got kind of a busy hour, but we're going to start off with Ingrid McCraw at, and she's there at her shop on King's Highway. We'll talk more about that in a moment. Ingrid's cupcakes and confections. Great time to be talking about that in the holidays. But right now, Ingrid, hey, good morning. Good morning. I'll tell you the excitement is building because the Oleksville Christmas Parade is coming up on the 29th. So I know you and your team has been working on this. And thank you for taking us over and making it happen. So bring us up today. Let's get the latest. Sure, sure. And thanks so much. Everybody has been so warm and welcoming and supportive. We couldn't do it without our community. So we are some of the myself and Leslie Wyatt and Sandra Meadows are what is called Rocco is home. And we are the people who are pushing the parade through, you know, kind of organizing everything, getting everything done, along with a lot of volunteers that we hope in the night of as well. It will be Friday after Thanksgiving at 6.30. It starts at old 87 in Washington Street and goes down Washington Street, turns right onto Briggs and then ends there in that curve near that little produce stand. So we've shortened it up a little bit this year. And that was for safety and efficiency after having a lot of different conversations with like Eden PD previous people who've been part of the parade and in the parade. So we hope that that will help with traffic congestion and a lot of other things. Our sponsors have come out in force. We've had an amazing outpouring of support. We have over 20 different sponsors, which are really helping get this thing off the ground. You know, we've got Santa's flow. We have an amazing Santa who has volunteered his time. He is out of the Colonel'sville area to come and be Santa for us this year. So that's exciting. That'll be fun. I'm trying to think. Let's see. Let's stop right there just a moment because you said over 20 sponsors and I don't know. I know you're there probably making cupcakes as we speak, but are decorating at least. But I don't know if you want to mention those 20 sponsors. If you've got the list in front of you and you want to, that's perfectly fine. I do. I do. I do have our list. Let's do it. Let's do all of that. Whatever you need to do. Yeah, because we couldn't do it without them. Sure. No, not at all. They've been amazing. We've got phone help. UNC Health Rockingham, Uptown Tavern, Lavender's Blue, MVP Southgate, Enbridge, Duke Energy, Dalton's Plumbing, Fisher-Hauling and Grading, Two Rivers Plaza, Slash Cooler Ice, JCR Recycling, Ingers Cupcake, WAKG, Wake Photography, that little port shop, the Wagner Group, Fig node, WGB Farm, Will Flint, Spirit, some Bloom, and of course, Hive and Rocco is home or the two that have been putting all the pieces together. Oh, that's a good list. That's a good group. Yeah. Yeah, it's amazing. We have been really, really blessed. The community's really come out and forth and we're really, really excited. Well, now this parade has been going on for many, many years and so you've got it right there, kind of revitalized it, reshaped it, rebranded it so to speak, all of those things. So, but it's right where it's always been the day after Thanksgiving. So, that would be the 29th this year. As you said earlier, at 6.30 and a little shorter route on that. So, tell us again now where it starts and where it ends. It starts at Old 87 and Washington Street, just down from where a town pharmacy is. Right. Okay. And then it will end there where King Highway ends in that curve. Coming in the curve. Where the little produce standing. Yeah, where Bridge Street starts and King Highway ends in that sharp curve. Yep. Before you get to watch the street. So, that'll be where it ends. Okay, good. That still are pretty good. Pretty good leith. So, a number of blocks. It is. It is. Especially if you've got little people walking, dance teams, bands, things like that. I do also want to say that we, unfortunately, we did lose our lovely lady who was going to be our Grand Marshal. She passed away Peggy Goode. But after talking with the family, they have agreed. And we were very excited the fact that they are going to ride in her stead, in her honor and memory. So, Peggy will still be in memory. Our Grand Marshal for our parade this year. Wonderful. Okay. Yeah, Peggy, we're missing Peggy already. But especially this time of the year. I know she hasn't been directly involved in the parade for a while, but she did that for many years and all of those things that she did in the Washington Street shopping area and yeah, her businesses and yeah. So, so yeah, we miss Peggy, but yeah, so her family's going to represent her well. I'm sure. Okay. Yes, sir. Yeah, we wanted to make sure we wanted to wait after she passed, give the family some time and then but they reached out to us before we got back to them. And they were like, yes, emphatically we want to do this. And I'm like, fantastic. We really wanted to, especially with us being our first year, us taking this over. And it almost not happening with the various things, you know, earlier this year, you know, now more than ever, I think it's a great way to honor her and have her memorial for this event. It is indeed. But unfortunately, life happens sometimes. So, but she will always be with us in spirit. That is for 100% certain. Oh, you bet. So yeah, that's exactly right. Okay. So can you tell us maybe a few things will be in the parade? Can it give us a little preview or we just need to come and see it? We tell everybody to come out and see it. We are still taking people who want to sign up to be in the parade. You don't have to be a business or company, anything like that. We have individuals that have entered vehicles and different things in the parade too. So if you're interested in still participating in the parade, we would love to have you and I can address that later. But more headband is coming out. Melanie Pascals dance troupe. It is their anniversary year. So they have a huge group of current and past dancers that will be in the parade. Oh, wow. Of course, Santa, we've got a couple professional floats. I'm trying to think what else a lot of churches have responded this year, businesses. And like I said, even private individuals, which is exciting. That's always fun. Oh, sure. But we definitely have her in to take on more for anybody who is kind of floundering. Not sure if they want to participate or not. We would love to have you. There is no cost this year. It is free to enter. And all the rules and regulations are out on either you can find it on the Facebook page at Facebook.com/oldleeful parade. Or you can go to our website, our permanent website, which would be Rocco is home. And then at the top, there's a link for parade. So that gives you all the information about the events, the rules and regulations and the Google form to fill out to enter the parade. Well, you made it really easy. So, and I think I'd seen earlier, you can sign up through this Friday. Is that still the case? Yes. And if they have any issues in that regard, just tell them to reach out to us. Send us an email. You can do that at oldleefulprayed@gmail.com. I know not everybody is super computer savvy. Or they can reach out and call either one of us here. You can call me at Ingrid's Cupcake, which is 336-635-9256. Or you can reach out to Hive Eden. I don't have Leslie's number on hand, but there's somebody always there in the evening. And you can give them a call and they can help walk you through filling out the form, or myself and Leslie have those have a few paper forms here in house. So you can swing by and fill out that. So we're trying to make it as easy as possible. Yeah. Well, it sounds like you have. Okay. All right. So is there anything else we need to talk about? I can't think of anything. We've got a lot of amazing surprises. I think it's going to be a wonderful event. Come out, bring your family, get there early, maybe walk up and down Washington Street, see what kind of fun stuff is going on. Come get some an early dinner or stay after the parade and get dinner at one of the many restaurants downtown. Yeah. And we're excited to kick off the Christmas season. Everybody has been super supportive. And really the community has come together to help us execute. And what's going to be another wonderful parade. Oh, it sounds like super super exciting. We feel really blessed to be part of this. Sure. Well, thank you, Ingrid. Thank you, Leslie. Thank you, Sandra. When I said earlier, your team, that's the team right there, ladies and gentlemen. Okay. We are a team and I don't know how anyone personally could put this together. It's been a lot of work, a lot of moving parts to make sure that we do the best we can. And like safe and efficient, you know, we're business owners. So we think about things maybe a little differently, trying to make sure that, you know, we we do it and we do it the right way and the safe way and the responsible way. Sure. And still have a great time. We're not killing any of the fun. There'll be candy passed out this year by washers going along with prey to tend or, you know, people in the parade. So, you know, candy will be back and forth. So we're excited. We've got a few little tricks up our sleeves and we're excited. It's going to be a great time. Okay. Now, I'm already picking up here. I'm hearing what you're saying there. You said surprises, free to enter. And you just said something a moment ago. It's already left my mind there. But you said something about the treats and the candy. So the walkers this year. So that's a little bit different. Yes. Yeah. We will have people that will be walking along with floats if they do. I mean, that's up to them when they enter. But people can be passing out candy, you know, thrown it on the curb, that kind of thing. It just can't be thrown from the vehicles itself or the floats. And that's an insurance thing that we have to for safety. Sure. Okay. I understand. All right. Well, it sounds like it's all coming together. Just great. And the fun things you have planned for the parade. And I think you said surprises. Maybe that's what it was. Surprises. So we got to come. That's what it was. You got to come see the surprises. What would they be? Yeah. Okay. Now, before we get away completely, you mentioned businesses and all of the people that are involved in this and of course the merchants in uptown Eden as you go through. But let's talk about Ingrid's cupcakes and confections. It's your busy, busy time of the year. So bring us up to date on that and how we can share in some of your holiday goodies. Sure. We are actually closed Thanksgiving week, but as soon as we get back, we're being full force for Christmas. We do something special. We do gift hands. So if you have a loved one or a person that you need to buy gift for, and you have no idea what to get them, you can always order a treat can from us. We have things like peanut butter balls, coconut balls, old old-fashioned orange balls, rum balls, just a wide variety of different things. And you can customize a 10. We do several different options for choices. I know you and your wife have gotten them from us before. Yes, yes, yes. We love those. I recommend them highly. And we're doing cocoa bombs. We'll be back again this year. Okay. And probably one of our most special things we offer in my personal opinion are our Christmas Eve boxes. I'm a mom of twin boys. I know how busy it gets to the holidays and especially working and working right up into Christmas. We forget little things. And so we offer a Christmas Eve box. They're $15 plus tax and includes cookies for Santa, magic reindeer treats, carrots for the reindeer, grit powder to keep that nasty grinch away. And a lot of other really cute little treats and surprises. A hot cocoa cone that looks like a Rudolph. Lots and lots of fun stuff to be able to kind of one-stop-stop for all your Christmas Eve prep for Santa. All you have to do is get your box and get you a glass of whatever beverage Santa likes, whether that be coffee, milk, and you're good to go. All right. Sounds good to me. Yeah. Yeah. Those tins that we get at Christmas time from you. Oh my gosh. And that gets her favorites. And I get mine. And we enjoy that so much. So and then now what about if we need special orders? We need cakes and things like that. Yes. We are taking orders for all of that. We can do custom orders as far as birthday cakes, wedding cakes. You need celebration cake, Christmas cakes. We'll be open all the way up to Christmas Eve because that will be the day for pick up. So I would just suggest to get your orders in, you know, pretty soon. If you need cakes or desserts for Christmas parties, things like that. So we've got lots of different options. Just reach out and let us know if businesses need gifts for their patrons. We did a lot of that last year. We even did shipping for different groups out to, you know, different businesses. If you're like your business to business kind of thing and you want to buy presents, a little small gifts for your different customers. We did a lot of that last year. So we also have that in the pipeline as well. So if you need any of those kinds of services, just reach out and we will do our best. Okay. So closed Thanksgiving week, but then back open right after that. So you'll be back open on December. What would be the date on that back in the shop? I'll be, I'll be back in the shop probably the second or the third that Monday you'll see the afterwards. But you can always reach out on my Facebook page. I always have my phone with me and I usually would do my best to respond back just as fast as I can. Okay. Excellent. All righty. Well, thank you for the update on the parade looking forward to that and all the best for the holidays. And thank you again and you and Leslie and Sandra and all your sponsors and people participating for making sure the old Leaksville nighttime Christmas parade continues. Thanks, Ingrid. You're very welcome, Mike. Thank you so much for your time. Talk to you soon. All right. Bye. Yes, sir. Happy Thanksgiving. All the best to you. Thanks. Bye. You too. Bye. That's Ingrid McCraw. She is right there at Ingrid's Cupcakes and Confections on King's Highway. All right. Now, if you have any questions at all, like she said, just check them out there on the Facebook page, the website, ROCO website, and then the old Leaksville Christmas parade. You can find it on social media and contact information there if you need to get to anybody. Okay. Let me just go over a couple more Christmas things here. The Downtown Readsville Christmas Parade actually is this Sunday, the 24th at four. So I wanted to mention that. And then let's see the Christmas parade in Stonewall will be Saturday, November 30th. That's Downtown Stonewall. And let's see. Whitworth Christmas in the park. They'll have her parade through the park is Friday, December 6th. Starts at 5.30. And let's see. I thought I had some more parade. Oh, here's this is one I was looking for. Annual Christmas stroll downtown Madison. That will be Saturday, December 7th. Admission Ken food items sponsored by Night Owl National Stone Works and Rockingham County Food Coalition. Here's the, let's see, I kind of another parade here. No, I think that's about it. Home town Christmas. Oh, this is in Stonewall. I wanted to mention this. At 302 South Henry Street, Saturday, December 14th, 10 to 3. Free drive-through family food, hygiene items, toys, new bikes, kids' coats, shoes, blankets, pillows sponsored by Generation 4 Hope. And one more special event today for our friends at the Arts Place of Stokes in Danbury. Beautiful star and Appalachian Nativity. Saturday, let's see. No, I'm not sure the dates. I said Saturday. No, this is actually different days. December 13th, 14th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 7 p.m., December 15th and 22nd at 4 p.m., tickets $20 members 15 under 12 free. But you can go to the Arts Place and get more information online about that that I don't have right here in front of me. Okay. All right, I'm going to be checking in with our Rocco Live sponsor a little bit, Amy Tilly at Sandy Cross General Merchandise. And then also I have a segment lined up here at about 1145 with Neville Hall, the mayor of Eden. He'll have some things to tell us. Lots came out in last night's Eden City Council meeting. I'm sure he'll go over some of that. We'll be talking about the fundraisers going on for the captain of the Moorhead High School football team. And everyone's been following that and we'll give you an update on Trooper Wright and everything involved that and the big fundraiser that happened at Santana's on Monday night. Have you seen those pictures online? Oh my gosh. It was like, well, the mayor said last night like a light show and that's about what it looked like with all of the hundreds and hundreds of cars. It was absolutely amazing. I do want to remind you about our state at the magazine. This is a wonderful publication. It's been around for a long, long time that we've all enjoyed. I'm looking at my December issue right now. And actually the November issue about North Carolina, the sweet potato state. Yes, we produce more sweet potatoes in North Carolina than any state in the United States. So there's a good write up here about sweet potatoes. And the North Carolina YM Festival in Tabor City. And see, Mama Dip has a legendary pie recipe in here. Did a nice radio program with her many, many years ago, Mama Dip in Chapel Hill. And then we're actually going to open the magazine up and find all kinds of good things for Thanksgiving. Oh my gosh, just lots of good Thanksgiving holiday foods and things like that too. So get your latest issue of our state. It's available lots of different locations now. And of course, you can get it online too. Our state magazine. And I'm looking at some gift suggestions here. Our state would make a wonderful Christmas gift for someone. And a lot of people subscribe to our state that have moved away from the area. And they'd like to keep up to the minute on what's happening back home. Well, here's an idea for you right there. A gift subscription to our state magazine for the holiday season. And you'll appreciate that. They'll appreciate that wonderful thoughtful gift as well. Go to ourstate.com to get more information on that. Okay. All right, I'm going to take a little break here with the sweet potato song before we do anything else. Because as I was reading this article, let me pull this out over here, this CD. See what? How old is this? It's been around for a while. 2009. I remember talking to the ladies with the sweet potato pie, a super band here in North Carolina. Gosh, this has been a while ago now. And this is an old CD. They've had a lot more music out since then. But this is the sweet potato jingle, which the North Carolina sweet potato council, I believe. I'm going from memory here now adopted. But it's part of this CD that I have. Nothing's the same is the name of the CD. And it's, as I said, been out a while. But I thought as I read this article in our state, oh, I need to, I need to pull this old CD out. And we'll listen to this sweet potato jingle. It's real short, but it's very timely here for this article. Sweet potatoes naturally got a lot of flavor, keep your lean and meet. You're really gonna love them a lot. Just listen to what they've got. Bonhamons B6 and D, loaded with beta carotene. Sweet potatoes naturally got a lot of flavor, keep your lean and meet. Delicious, nutritious, and bad for you. Sweet potatoes naturally stir them up broad with a dip. Fried sweet potato chips. Sweet potato pancakes, salad too. Take them. Good for you. Sweet potatoes naturally got a lot of flavor, keep your lean and meet. Delicious, nutritious, and bad for you. Sweet potatoes naturally. Oh yeah, and if you're a fan of sweet potatoes like I am, yes, nothing like a good North Carolina sweet potato. Yes, I could eat one of those about every day. How about one more song, then I'll check in with Amy and Sandy Cross General Merchadox. I was young, I loved to play in the mountains by the old home place. My friends and I fuck Halloween and the end walls. I knew those mountains crowded all like they were burned deep in my soul where the trees were tall and the gracefully gold stores. Well now my hair is turning gray, my friends have up and moved away. A park in a lot stands where I spent that time. While I can't go to the past with the memories, those days will last. I'll always be the cowboy in my mind. Copies maker by his side tin star weren't on his chance with pride, the marshal and his horse right into the night. A dusty trail's his road to fame though the world may never know his name he stands alone and fights for what it is right. The wanted man he seeks to find the woman that he's left behind, the dirt farm of his dreams he'll never see. His last thought in the dark of night on a cold bed roll beneath star lights. His brightest star at home is pride to be. Sometimes I dream of simple ways like those back in the cowboy days when the measure of a man was just his word. Cowboy stars of the silver screen like a royal text on Hain and Jane discouraging words from them were never heard. And I dream of days from Mr. U and the only thing we had to fear was fear itself and the marching forth of time. And while I can't go to the past with memories, those days will last. I'll always be the cowboy in my mind. That sweet potato pie that's old old CD but still some good music from those gals. Well I said after that song we're checking with Sandy Cross General merchandise and we're doing that right now. Amy Tilly is on the line. Amy hey good morning. Good morning from Sandy Cross down my tonight. Hope you're well. All is good here. How about there? Everything is good and busy. Busy morning. Things going on right now. Okay yeah well that's a busy that's a crossroads of Rockingham County right there isn't it? It's all coming together. It is. We're kind of the crossroads in the middle of the county so we truly have people from everywhere that come through and it's always a place to meet people and stop and get some gas, some pure gas from parts old companies. We've got all kinds non ethanol and related kerosene heated and all right and all for a diesel and premium 93 non ethanol that you can't find just anywhere. And yeah it's a great place to meet up and have a glass bottle drink and meet up with some friends. We've got 47 glass bottle drinks right now and Mountain Dew glass bottles are back and stopped. Thank goodness. Okay. Still working on the double cola but we got Mountain Dew back. Okay. Yeah that's the biggest selection of bottle drinks you'll find anywhere in the area folks. No absolutely. We've got some very unique ones from all over the country and and you never know. We might add a few more after the first bit of the year. Always looking at what else is out there that's unique that we maybe haven't seen or tried before. Sure. I think I'd get to 50 at least. Your is just so close. We will probably try to get the 50 but we're going to look at what flavors are out there and and try to add some unique ones for people to try. Yeah. Okay well let's talk about other things that are going on there because as you said it's busy. So bring us up today. It is busy. Today is Turtle Creek Wednesday. So we've got first sourdough bread coming in this afternoon and we've got a lot of freeze dry candy. We've got the caramel puffs which are whether the regionals back in stock. We've got skittles. We've got all kinds of freeze dry marshmallows and all kinds of different stuff. Really unique stuff and everybody who tries it likes it. So if you'd like to try a sample just tell whoever's there that you'd like to try one. We've got some freeze dry skittles. We'll be happy to share with you if you've seen try them out. So yeah that's today. Tomorrow is Hot Dog Thursday from 11 to 2. And then tomorrow night we have social plate from 5 to 8 30. And if you haven't tried her food yet it is phenomenal. She's got fish. She's got pork tops and chicken and shrimp and all kinds of great sides like collards and macaroni and cheese. So if you haven't tried her out you need to come try her out. And then Friday we will not have barbecue. They've got to go out of town. They won't be back until December 6th. But we do have bird fries from casual county and they sort of breakfast kind of foods and shrimp and grits and waffles and things like that. They came last week for the first time and it was outstanding. So definitely come give them a try. We're excited they're going to be there for the whole day. 11 to 8. So you have plenty of time to stop by and get you some. So that's just Friday. That's just Friday. That's right. Now next week because of Thanksgiving we will not have any food trucks. Okay. And that's okay. We'll start back up with them the first week in first week in December. But next week we won't have any. Okay. So come try the three we've got this week if you haven't already. And get you some really good food and still on the porch with a glass bottle drink and enjoy the the nice weather we've been having lately. That's exactly right. I just wish you had more drinks to choose from. It's just such a limited limited selection there. But 47 I guess we'll muddle through somehow. Yeah. You can find something I promise. No we can't. Yeah. Okay. And you know people are thinking about Christmas now. Yeah. Okay. Go ahead. Sorry. I was saying people are thinking about Christmas. Yeah. Yeah. We're super excited because Christmas has arrived at the store. We've got Christmas trees now. We've got Christmas towels. Some are hand painted. Microfiber towels. And we've got some embroidered towels. They're just gorgeous. We've got tons of things are simply stitched. Coasters, hair bows, handmade stockins that are just unbelievably beautiful. And some handmade pewter Christmas earrings that were made in North Carolina that are absolutely gorgeous. And then we have our tree up with ornaments that are 90% of them are handmade, crocheted ones, hand painted, all kinds of stuff. We even have some pewter ornaments as well. We've got all kinds of gifts. We've got some bird feeders that are coming in this week. Keychains, tote bags, sun casters. And we've just got a huge amount of Damascus knives just put into the knife case that we have. So if anybody on your list, we've got something for you. And we have some new items that just came in yesterday. And we're so excited. It's from Cheesebry Candy Company in Thomasville, North Carolina. It is old fashioned hard candy, like the whorehound candy. And we've got whorehound, elderberry, cinnamon, lemon, winter green, peppermint, butterscotch, and Carolina Reaper. That's going to be a hot one. Candy cashews, the old time candy fruit. And then we do have a pepper jack cheese ball mix that they make, which is outstanding. So come check all that stuff out. They've got their own display, near the tree. You can see it all together. And it's really cool looking stuff. And we've got some samples of the candy at the register, too, that we'd be happy to give you one of. I think everybody's going to really like it. And we're so excited to have a local candy company in the store. Oh, I am. Tom, excited with you there. That's some good sounding stuff. Now, is this seasonal? Is this for this? We'll be there for a while. It's going to be with us for a while. We have been in 10 to keep that partnership going. Okay, great. We have a lot of people ask for that old Tommy candy. And I think this is going to fit the deal. Yeah, it sounds like it. And have a lot to choose from it sounds like, too. So, so this is something that, you know, kind of takes you back to the good old days. Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah. So we're doing it. We've also got all of our ham products, including some ham gift sets. So, if you're looking for a gift set for somebody, we've got country ham slice gift sets that are good prices and already ready to go. And we're expecting some budge sample gift sets from Nancy's food by the end of the week. So we'll have that as well. And they were really popular last year. Easy shopping, get a gift set. It's already in decorative boxes and you're ready to go. We've also got a whole lot of nieces country sausage, because it is time to think about all the sausage balls you need to make. So we've got plenty of that ready for you. We've got more honey and fogwood food, jams and syrup, ash County cheese and all their sauces still have pumpkin butter and apple butter. And of course, we've got fried apple pies. We still have some left. We'll be getting some more tomorrow. So, if you want a nice little treat, you definitely need to come try some fried apple pies made the way grandma used to make. Really, really good response from it. Everybody seems to really like those. Yeah, I know I love them. Sure. Okay. Yeah. And then of course, we've got our everyday stuff, pharmacy section. We've got some automotive things, pet food and pet treats, pet treats are local groceries. And we have a huge candy and snacks election anyway. Now we're adding this local candy and then we've got lots of snacks and food from Nancy's garage that everybody loves. All kinds of unique stuff, even have chocolate covered coffee beans. And then we've just got propane refill. So if you deep fry your turkey and need some propane, we've got that ready for you. We've got 50 pound bags of chilled dear corn. That is premium quality. Dear corn is hard to find this year. And we have got plenty of it. So come by and pick that up and feed the squirrels and the deer. And we've got firewood for your bonfires ready to go. And the Christmas lottery tickets are flying out the door, but we still have plenty of them. And we still have some bait. So if you want to take advantage of these nice days with the family coming in and want to go fishing, we still have plenty of bait for you. So stop by and get that. Yeah. Okay. Wow. Is there anything you don't have at the log cabin store? You've got so much. I think you've got a little bit of Avery. You really have. You really have. My goodness. Just to hear you to talk about all these things, Amy, it's amazing how much you've got in that in that shop, in that business. Goodness gracious. We are happy to have as much as we can. And of course, we love local and regional and we try to do that as much as possible. And we're proud that we've been able to accomplish that. And we'd love for everybody to come check it out. We will be open Thanksgiving Day from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Our and I will be there. So come get your last minute stuff that you need or just come grab a couple coffee or a glass bottle drink and visit with us and say hello. But that's kind of become our little Thanksgiving morning tradition that we love to do. And we'd love to see y'all come by. You just need to get away from the kitchen. You can do that for a little bit. So that'll be next week from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. But most of the time we are open 7 days a week from Monday through Saturday 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. We're at 1.64 Boyd Road and Readable at the intersection of Sandy Cross Road, urban farm road and Boyd Road near Wentworth. So definitely come check us out this holiday season. Santa Claus will be coming December 13th and 14th. We're super excited about that. And Santa's elves are working on bringing a special drop off place for letters to say now that he will be picking up periodically during the Christmas season so he can make sure he has everybody wishes granted on Christmas Day. Oh how cool is that? Okay thank you Santa. They should be ready by the end of next week. So I'm waiting to hear the final stuff from the old today. Yep those elves are busy so you know give them a few more days. And you know I've made a note right here because you know if anybody is looking for a present for me personally you know I think I could probably be okay with a fudge or country ham gift set. Either one of those would work fine. So thank you. I just don't put that out there. You know what a great idea and you said it's already packages ready to go. Put it under the tree. It is. It's ready to go. All you got to do is put the tag on it and you're ready to give it to somebody. Yep okay. Amy always great to talk to you. Thanks for all of the good things you bring us there that we enjoy at Sandy Cross, you know our merchandise. Happy Thanksgiving to you and Ira and your staff and we'll talk to you after the holidays. Happy Thanksgiving to you and all the listeners out there. Come see us soon. Okay thanks. All right bye. That's our friend Amy Tilly at Sandy Cross General Merchandise. Yep Boyd Road, Irving Farm Road and Sandy Cross Road right there in Reedsville. Check them out on Facebook. They do a great job. Ira taking care of that Facebook page for Sandy Cross General Merchandise so you can keep right up to the minute on all of the different things as they continue to add them and they're gonna run out of space one day but maybe not. They just keep just keep packing it in and then you'll find out about the upcoming holiday events as well and Santa and those things and then a reminder they are open Thanksgiving day from eight to one. They are open every day. They're there for you seven days a week at Sandy Cross General Merchandise in Reedsville. All right now pull to another CD out. Let me see if this has a date on this 2017. This is from Pine Castle Records. This is the farm hands from their color CD. I just kind of pull this out quickly. First one I get my hands on for the program today. Farm hands continue to churn out great bluegrass music. We're putting the finishing touches on RCR Rockingham County Radio kind of tuning our playlist and getting some other programming elements added. So by mid December RCR Rockingham County Radio will be up and running with all of our music and our programming and everything that I think you're going to really like. So I pulled this old CD out from the farm hands. Yes you'll be able to hear them at RCR and this is one of the cuts from this old album and while this song is playing I'll make a call to the mayor of Eden Neville Hall. Looking back on the roads I've been down the turns I've made both right and wrong of all the places that life has taken me to nothing compared to home. Well that old tractor in the fields close all the night up a pee in the yard and a prayer at supper time. Chasing fire flies are drinking. Grandma's lemonade falling asleep or grandpa plays. Sometimes a song can't breathe back through years. The mid breeze of those we love and it seems the smell of an open old case takes me back how it was. Well that old tractor in the field close all the night up a pee in the yard and a prayer at supper time. Chasing fire flies are drinking. Grandma's lemonade falling asleep or grandpa plays. [Music] Chasing fire flies are drinking. Grandma's lemonade falling asleep or grandpa plays. There's all sandals. I do have the mayor of Eden Neville Hall on the line now. Hey mayor how you doing today? Mike how are you? I'm doing well yep well we had a really good Eden City Council meeting last night we're not on our regular day here today but maybe we'll go over some of the things there but I know let's start with trooper first because you know we've seen the we've seen the picture some people were in that in those long lines but you everyone I think was just so pleased with the turnout at that fundraiser at Santana's Monday night was it was phenomenal wasn't it it was there was cars all throughout the central area I mean the streets were packed it was just a we've seen the pictures on Facebook and other places it it looked like a concert letting out I mean there's so many cars there and people were always seem to be patient and and enjoyed the time talking to each other you know so it was interesting it was quite a turnout yeah it really was like I mentioned last night our the police department having no expectation of having to manage that much traffic was able to just come in there quickly and get it under control and and make sure the event went on smoothly and faceless yeah I don't know if we can even compare that to a big home football game or not because it was it seemed to be it's a lot bigger than that wasn't it yeah it was it was I mean the intent was like a drive through pull up and yeah look up you're staying and leave sounded easy sounded easy until they started lining up by lunchtime yeah and it was very impressive and I'm proud of citizens for stepping up and supporting this family well I know and you made that comment last night you even even does step up eat eating responds when the need is there whatever it may be we've got another event touchdowns for trooper at Morehead High School Stadium this Saturday did you want to talk about that I've got some information right here in front of me yeah this is an event and put on by the student council it's more at the flag tag seven on seven football fundraiser I think it's 40 bucks for a team and those proceeds will go to trooper and his family and you know this is the way for the students to have a part in making a difference in the in troopers recovery and they're excited about the football games that they'll have to turn them up so yeah that's just the next thing there's several businesses throughout our community throughout Eden and the county that have already stepped up in our planning event to support them yeah more to come so that's it and Morehead High School Stadium and that is Saturday starting at 10 and I know Circle Drive-in Boone Road has something planned for tomorrow too and others throughout the county actually kind of expanding beyond Eden on that for trooper right okay all right another thing that came out and I know the city manager everybody's excited Jim Burnett with the Eden Chamber of Commerce was in this morning his monthly podcast and we were talking about a big announcement last week so I wanted you to give us your take on that too mayor yeah this is the first of hopefully many dominoes to fall in the mega site at Barrett Hill Road that we've been talking about for so long these big announcements are really slow moving and it seems like you're never going to get there and this one finally an announcement was made with 2000 jobs over a billion dollars investment and like somebody said last night we're about I think John Mendenhall said I think we're six miles from the corporate limit so we're the closest municipality to the mega site and that is the reason why we're not we I wasn't on the board yet but I've supported it ever since but the board decided to extend the water and sewer lines out there because of the vision that the state of Virginia has for that type and and we felt like it'd be good for us to partner and and go across state lines and sell them water and sewer and the treatment sewer and it's uh it just finally is starting to come together and there and supposedly more than out was coming this is a first and the smallest tract in there and you know historically when companies like this locate their suppliers want to locate close to them their customers want to be close to them so this could really be the beginning of a big industrial movement in the part time yeah since a long time and we've had to be patient but I think things are starting to move now yeah it looks like it yeah we've all driven by that on the way to Danvall on Bear Hill Road and you know we think well there's a little dirt moving over here and there's some over there and the signs have been out they look nice for a while but yeah now after 15 16 years and I know our city manager last night was thanking administrations and mayors and city councils and economic development and all of the people that had that vision years ago and and just like our board now and you leading that board is mayor making decisions now for for long range for the future and that's infrastructure and everything else it's so important that you have those visions isn't it yeah we didn't you know the old saying you don't you don't get shade right now let's just plant the seed I mean you don't get shade later unless you plant the seed now so that's the way that council looked at it and and our staff grant writing and and other things have and then stated off Carolina it that estimated about nine million dollars in construction most of that almost all of it was funded through grants and state money so we worked hard to keep the expense down on the citizens but if that company were to have announced today or this month that they were coming and they'd like to rest or run water and sewer out there I can't imagine what it would cost for today so it's just having the foresight and like I said the mayor before me and the councils before I was there had the vision and I'm proud to have worked to see it through with the funding and those type things and hopefully will all benefit from it and you know I imagine the workforce will a large part will come out of North Carolina and that's just we talked about the governor of Virginia was there he talks about and we've said all along you know there's a state line or a county line but you really can't see it really it's just there's no reason why you can't cross it and partner on something like this and we're just fortunate that the state of Virginia put all their resources into this park and it happens to be our neighbors so we're happy about that yeah I wonder along the entire North Carolina Virginia line even South Carolina I guess we look down south but I wonder if something like this has been done before do we know oh as far as crossing over state line yeah yeah I haven't heard of anything either I would imagine that it has to be you know somewhere that it happens but we had never done it here and and we're as close as you can get so it makes sense to partner with them so yeah okay big deal well it is it really is a big deal yeah okay well anything else from last night's meeting a couple of issues tabled and things like that anything else you need to mention we voted to approve the rezoning of quarter store property I don't know Morgan Road which I'd be interested to see what kind of commercial use they have in mind for that I'd like to see a little store there but you know I don't know what they're going to do with it but it was built for commercial was used commercial for decades and you know then my owners and the quarters would like to see it commercial again so hopefully yeah I liked your story so yeah big iron Murphy yeah that was a good idea I didn't know pig iron I didn't know that story yeah port there local home they said where are you from I'm behind port store that's a really good hometown story there well you know you don't know where that is okay wow okay and you mentioned about the the tree analogy a moment ago I know I mentioned last night of the the tree board and looking at board members of that some committee and appointments and all that and I did get to talk to to Jeff after the meeting about the this is the 30th year will you tell that because you you were the one who mentioned it yeah it's the 30th year of Eden being accredited as a tree city USA and in celebration of that the tree board is offering not penalty to buy and plant a tree and you're on your behalf either in honor or memory of someone and with that you get a plaque with the you say what you want to on the plaque it goes with the tree and it won't be selling them in now through January I think then order them and that's where you plan them in March or April and if you can contact Jeff Alderman at City Hall he can help you with that there are five types of trees and six locations they're trying to get 30 people to do this and plant a tree and in someone's honor or memory and in the funds generated from that can go towards some more tree board projects in the future yeah that's great all right so 30 for 30 I think 30 for 30 yeah I was glad to hear you talk about that last night okay so Jeff Alderman planning and community development at Eden City Hall can give you more information on that okay anything else oh man how about the presentation from Cindy oh yeah yeah how many people it takes to do this stuff it's unbelievable wow and if she didn't there's no way you can announce everybody we had a lot of people there that volunteered and worked during the festival that we put on all year and it was just an opportunity for her to to wrap up the festival season with although we still have a couple together this year but uh you know just to thank everybody that that puts in time and and effort to these river fast and other things to make it so success and uh you know it was just it's incredible to see the support that it takes and the support that we have to make these things happen yeah yeah I included that in my newscast this morning I believe I don't have my notes in front of you I think she said there are nine signature events and eight or nine just smaller events but yeah we start when she started clicking those off mayor in anything wow why did how did how does she make all this happen and which it got the people that you know that that makes it all come together too but gosh there are a lot of different things going and eating during the year yeah we talk about it every month you and I do and you really can't continue to say there's nothing to do at ease no because there's plenty to do in eating so uh yeah Sandy does a terrific job organizing and and getting on the group uh all on the same page and and it's we have great signature events as well as smaller ones so yeah she did a good job recognizing everybody last night so that was one thing that happened and then I went into the exhaustive list of upcoming events yeah I'd try I mean I know you already done a podcast with maybe send to your jam about events or you're getting ready to but uh yeah we got all sorts of things going on with the tree lighting um we got a ribbon cut in monday at the draper landing that's something that people have wanted to see improved for a long time and we've got funding and did that and uh that's on monday at one o'clock and then we start the tree lighting series where's this I mean Tuesday at uptown eating at the genham department and um see when uh yeah I don't have that oh the lethal Christmas parade is the next thing and then we do the spray Christmas tree lighting on the second and draper Christmas tree lighting on the third yep that's it that's it for sure yeah we've got the trees and uh I told uh Ken white last night as I was coming up meeting in our past by that tree in Harrington park that is absolutely beautiful oh so pretty yeah you know each area likes to I mean they they take pride in their in their particular areas and want to have a tree in a nice area to take pictures and things so it's it's important to have one uh everywhere that the merchant so are interested in having it so uh that's why we have three going as far as the city goes so and then of course winter fest is coming up soon to the fix oh yeah yeah and it's uh that's busy and then the next morning's is right for Christmas parade which you know it's in the fifty third year maybe something like that it's getting up there so that's an event that obviously well attended and supported so uh coming up here in the weeks uh two weeks yeah yeah but I may have told you this story you told your pig iron story there but uh I remember I used to broadcast that draper Christmas parade came out of I did that I was always always stationed in front of draper variety there and I remember one year uh that was the coldest I don't it couldn't be any colder in in in arctic I mean I it was so cold but people were there I mean that parade just rolled right along so and that one is rain or shine in draper they never they never stop for the weather yeah okay yeah oh mayor thank you for uh everything um hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving city offices will be closed uh what days Thursday and Friday Thursday and Friday next week so um yeah and uh just just doesn't notice if uh you're trash days or Thursday and Friday they're going to collect it on Wednesday the 27th okay get it out early yeah very good yeah and that brings in you know that might be another good time to uh speaking of the weather and uh those guys that are out there uh trash collection and fixing broken busted water pipes and all that kind of stuff all the winter weather coming up so we appreciate them too they're out there taking care of business still whatever the weather yes they do they're dependable and regardless of the weather or the temperature or the time of day you know when there's when there's an emergency or something needs to be fixed those guys out there in the cold and rain and snow doing it so yeah keep them in mind uh you know it's a tough time they have families too that they'd love to be home with but sometimes if they're on call they gotta go out and you know just hope everybody appreciates the sacrifice that our public works department may yeah especially in this time of the year with the weather and the holiday yeah thank you for that okay and thank you mayor hope you have a happy Thanksgiving all right we'll talk to you next month all
