Mike Moore Media. Jim Burnett Executive Director of the Eden Chamber of Commerce is in our studios today. Welcome back. Jim, how you doing? I'm doing well, Mike. Thank you. It's great to be here. Always good to have some time to find out what's happening with the Eden Chamber of Commerce. Our monthly podcast, so bring us up to date. As usual, a lot going on. There is a lot, there is a lot. Yes, I am really glad to be able to share this with everyone. Sure. We had our coffee last week with the Trinity Wesleyan Education Center, and Mike, they have been in business for 25 years, and they are the largest daycare center in the county, the largest. And it's right here in Eden. Right here in Eden, and they provide great service. They really do. They really do. Thank you for that. Yeah. So, I want to invite everyone to our next coffee. It's at the Eden Jewelry, and let's open everybody. So come out and network with everyone, and be glad to talk with everyone and see you. Okay. Our member of the month is the Eden Rescue Squad, and they perform a great service for our community, and with Jason Wood, and those folks, and so we're just so pleased to have them in our community, and the services that they that they provide to everyone. You know, I did a little something on that as a member of the month the other day, and I wanted to find out how long they had been here, and I'm trying to find that. I wish I had prepared for this, but I think they were organized in 1957. Wow. I believe 54. I'll look that up. Okay. That's amazing. It goes back. Yeah. A lot of people involved in that through the years. It has been. It has been. And that service has always been there, too. That's right. So appreciative of what they do. We are. Yeah. Hang on, I got this right here. Okay. I'm gonna just make sure. No, I don't. But it was a mid mid or late 50s. Okay. Yeah. Okay. And they have lots of great equipment there, too. Rescue water rescue and everything. So we're real pleased about that. We appreciate our first responders. Absolutely. And we had a couple of ribbon cuttings last month as well. We had the EV charging electric vehicle charging station on the bridge street in the city parking lot. And then on October 23rd, we had the Blue Ridge hearing. They opened up their place there on on Van Buren and great business to have in our community. We appreciate them. Yeah. I've been about to talk to them and nice folks. They really are. They really are. Yeah. They really are very nice. We had a couple of after hours, too. We had in October, we had the Neil and Anne Fair provided the after hours at the Muir Fair House. And man, what a great, great time that was with all the foods that they had and the networking, the great, all the folks that came out. We were so pleased to be able to see everyone and talk to everyone. It's a great, great opportunity. Yeah. And things like that, just to kind of bring the community together and you meet people you haven't seen in a while, perhaps. Exactly. Exactly. It is. And each one is a little different that the people that get there. And actually, the next one we had was really different. It was at Life's Blessings, helping hands with Arthur and Latanya Lewis. And typically, at their after hours, you know, we will have some snacks and things and just stand around and talk and talk to each person and so on and have to have that great opportunity to talk to people. But this one was different. She actually fixed a full meal for everyone and had the table set up and everything. We went in and sat down and had a meal. It was unreal, but it was great. We appreciate what they do. That was a great tie-in. Of course, it was wonderful. It was. It was. And not only was it a full meal, it was a great full meal as well. It was filling. It was very filling and very, very good too. Yeah, we appreciate it. And you're right, Mike. They provide a tremendous service with their feeding of the folks on Wednesdays and Saturdays down there too. So they, I think they told me at one of the last Saturday before, I think they had something like 97 or 98 different families come in. Wow, that's a large number. It is, it is. And they've been doing that a while. They really have, yes. And we very, very appreciative of that, like say, of that service that they provide. We appreciate life's blessings helping hands. Yes. And then we had our member event, one of our member events this year last last Thursday night at the rollabout. So. Now, were you skating? I was skating without skates. How's that? No, but it was a lot safer than putting me out there with those kids. I understand. Okay. The kids appreciate that. They do. And they had a great time. I was amazed at some of those kids. They won, you know, they played the music as they skate and everything. And so many of those kids knew all those songs and they were not only skating, they were singing with it and dancing and this had a great time. And speaking of life's blessings, they brought six or seven children that they were feeding as well with them. So, yeah, so we had, it was great, great. It's a wonderful time to see those kids have that much fun. Sure. Yeah. Okay. Maybe skating next time. Maybe maybe. Yeah. I understand that. Okay. Yeah. Mike, I want to make sure everyone knows about our small business Saturday. And it's actually not going to be small business Saturday. It's going to be eight days. We're going to extend that for everyone. And we're calling it small business big impact. And we're going to run that from Black Friday through the following Saturday. And here's what we're going to do. We have participating chamber members, retail members. And if you go in and spend during those eight days on one receipt, at least $20 for every receipt that you submit to us, you're going to be eligible for a drawing of $250. And we're going to have three of those drawings of $250. So we're encouraging our folks to participate with our downtown areas, all of our member areas and buy local and win some money. $250. That's terrific. Yeah. And I've seen that on your Facebook page right for the chamber. So people will get more information there. And the businesses are listed. The businesses are listed. We have flight. We've delivered flyers to each of the businesses and they're either posted or will be posted at their sites that they are participating. And we'll be sending out more information about that as well to connect people. So small business big impact. Right. So we're just so pleased to have our members participate in that and to be able to give, you know, we're happy to give away some money this time. So how about that? That's great for the holidays. It is, it is. Wonderful. So a couple of other things going on in Eden, Mike, that I think we need to talk about two. There's going to be a ribbon cutting at the Draper Landing on Monday, November the 25th at 1 p.m. Now this is really, really significant because this is the only access to the river before you get to Danville. So a boat access. So this is going to be great for not only boating, fishing, leisure and pleasure, but also for rescue efforts as well. Because I know the rescue squads that that, you know, we talked about earlier, difficulty for they have very, very difficult. They had to put in in Danville and come up the rivers anytime anything happened near Eden. So so we're real pleased that that is happening. I think that that's going to be a great benefit to Eden as well. Yeah, talking to someone earlier in the week and they were singing the praises of that improvement and how nice that is now. Yes, yes, yes, absolutely. So like I said, it's not only a pleasure, but for life saving as well. So we're just extremely happy that that's going to be there for us. So that is a ribbon cutting celebration, Eden Chamber of Commerce at the Draper Landing. That's on NC 700 Eden. And that's Monday to 20 November 25th at one. That's correct. That's correct. Yeah, that's a that's a city city ribbon cutting that we're going to be helping them with and we appreciate that. Okay, terrific. Yeah. And the other thing, and I know we're hearing a little bit about it, but I think we're hearing more and more about it and the impact. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the announcement at the Southern Virginia mega site last Wednesday. And that announcement was for micro porous business. And they're bringing two over 2000 jobs to this area at the mega park. And as the city manager said, last night, that's only six miles from Eden. So that's going to be a tremendous impact on Eden. Not only jobs, houses, things like that, but also the city will be supplying all of the sewer at this point to the mega site and and a lot of the water that's going down there as well. So that's going to be a great benefit to the city of Eden long term. 2000 employees just start salary around 60,000 little don't know exactly how that all's gonna come out, but depending on the job positions, but and then eventually 5000 employees down the road is what they're expecting. Yes, yes, yes. And you were there on the ground floor of this, right? We want you're on the board at the time and all of this was development. I was I was this was this goes back about 16 years, quite honestly. And so there was a lot of work that went on. We we we the board at that point did agree to put in the water and sewer lines there. We knew that it was not going to be tomorrow or next week or next year, it was going to be the future. And so now we're seeing parts of the future come come to come to fruition and we're so pleased about that as well. That's kind to be exciting for you. Oh, yes, absolutely involved in that. Yes. Yeah. And you know, our former economic director and city managers were we're big in helping us go that route and make sure that and Terry Shelton helped get a lot of grants to put that put those lines in as well. So it was very pleased. Well, I'm glad you mentioned that. Yeah, that's that that is big news for our region, for sure. The mega mega a burial mega park. And that's 1.3 billion dollars. Yes. Yeah. And that's billion with a B capital B. Yeah. And I can't fathom that number, but I can say it anyways. Well, well, congratulations. And thank you for the vision of the board. I know our city manager, John Menenhall mentioned last night and thank the administrations and the mayors and boards and all of that. A lot of people involved and maybe some naysayers back then. There were a few. There were a few. Yes, absolutely. And so I'm bored. But now look here where we are. There we are. In the future. Still the future. Yeah, absolutely. And one other aspect to there was a luncheon afterward. And I was able to at our table, we sat with the director of the Danville Chamber of Commerce and the vice president of all of the advanced learning centers at the Danville Community College. And so we talked about also not only the training that was going to happen, but the training not only would be in Danville, probably we would be seeing some at Rockingham Community College and maybe some other community colleges around as well. So that's another impact that the mega park will have on us. Many, many levels. Absolutely. Absolutely. I think I think we know a few of those and there'll be a lot more that we don't know at this time that we'll be coming along as well. And that is and we've all been watching that. Yeah, the side there as we go to Danville. Right. You know, I'm seeing some construction work and signs have been up a while. But that is the largest industrial site in Virginia in Commonwealth Virginia in Virginia. That's that's quite amazing. Yes. And they have, I believe that I understood the governors to say that they had invested over $200 million in that in that mega site. You're right on that. Yeah. So it's happening now. Yeah. Okay, that's exciting for all of us. Absolutely. Okay. So hopefully we'll be seeing some jobs come about pretty soon and we'll have some of those on our website as well. And we do carry jobs on our website. Hopefully we'll look and if you'd like to receive our emails, go to our website and there'll pop up box and you can sign up for our emails and we'll be pleased. And we'll we send out an email every week and try to put current news in there and see so you know what's going on. And if you have any questions, be sure and contact us and you can get me or one of our folks at staff at the Chamber just calling us at 6336 6233336. And we have a Facebook page website. So look us up getting contact with us. I think we'll try to answer your questions and hopefully interest you in becoming a member of the Chamber and see what we can we can help you with. Lots of benefits and being a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Absolutely. Absolutely. Jim, always good to have you in the studio. Thank you. Thank you Mike. It's a pleasure to be here and be able to share everything with everyone. So happy Thanksgiving. Yes. Good turkey day coming about. Yeah. Ready for the turkey. Yeah. And if you need any more information as Jim was just saying contact the Eden Chamber of Commerce and there's just 3 3 6 6 2 3 3 3 3 3 6. That spells Eden 6 2 3 Eden. Eden. That's where we are and that's what's happening. That is what's happening today with the Eden Chamber of Commerce. [BLANK_AUDIO]
