Here's an exclusive report on last night's Eden City Council meeting. John Mindenhall, City Manager, talked about the Berryhill Megasight announcement last week. Microporous, an American company that makes components for electric vehicle batteries, will be investing $1.3 billion, initially creating more than 2,000 jobs, and eventually over 5,000. Eden has supplied water and sewer to the site. The project began more than 15 years ago. Mindenhall said a city manager is lucky if he has one big company to locate, and he's had two, Purina, that started production in 2024, and now microporous, expected to start in 2026. He thanked previous city councils, mayors, administrations, and economic development for their vision and hard work. The park, 3,500 acres, the largest industrial site in Virginia, and one of the largest in the Southeastern United States, is about six miles from Eden. Also last night, Lisa Moore, program director for the Hampton Historical Foundation, invited the public to see the Sunshine School. One of the Rosenwald schools, built primarily for African-American children in the south in the early 20th century. A partnership between Judas Rosenwald, president of Sears Robotkin Company, and Booker T. Washington, president of Tuskegee Institute. The school is at 202-Hairston Street, off East Stadium Drive, and will be open tomorrow between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Fundraising efforts are underway to renovate and reclaim it for the community, possibly as a museum. I'll have a podcast this morning with Raphael Hampton, director of Hampton Historical Foundation. You can listen to that wherever you get podcasts. Cindy Adams, marketing and special events manager for Eden, personally thanked all of this year's special event sponsors, volunteers and city staff, venues and vendors, merchants and musicians, caters, partnerships, organizations like the Eden Rotary Club, Dan River Basin Association, Fine Arts Festival, Theatre Guild and many others. There were nine signature events and nine smaller ones. She said, "The foundation of our success is building relationships." Mayor Neville Hall said he was overwhelmed at Monday's fundraiser at Santana's Restaurant for Trooper Wright, captain of the Moorhead Panthers football team, who had to have his left arm amputated following an ATV accident last week. There were eight lanes of vehicles in the parking lot, 30 deep at times, lined up from Stadium Drive to the traffic circle on Pier Street at the library. More than 1,000 plates were sold, raising $30,000. Tomorrow, there's another fundraiser at Circle Drive in on Boone Road. All proceeds all day go to Trooper and his family. Readswell Police Department arrest Kristen Diane Robertson, 34, homeless, possession of cocaine, Schedule 2 controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Today we embrace the unexpected and celebrate the little ones who brighten our lives. Do you love to start the day with a smile? Join the celebration nation by picking up your very own National Day Calendar. Visit our website, nationaldaycalendar.com, for our full color printed guide to all the fun and unusual ways to celebrate every day. Did you ever have one of those days when nothing makes sense? Well, today is the day to embrace it. The ludicrous, the bizarre, to the downright silly aspects of our daily lives. Perhaps if the socks disappearing in the dryer are those inexplicable traffic jams when you're already late. On National absurdity day, instead of letting these absurdities frustrate you, laugh at them, after all, life is full of surprises and sometimes they don't always make sense. Do they? Uh, make sense? Not to me, usually no. Yeah, anything absurd today going on in your life? Oh, my son's car is in for repairs. So, the eighth time… well… yeah? Like, I had to think about that for a second. Speaking of kids, children bring wonder and joy into our world. National Child's Day is a day to celebrate the potential of every child and to recognize the individuals who are making a significant difference in a child's life. Whether it's volunteering at a local school, spending extra time with your own kids, or advocating for children's rights, use this day to make a positive impact on the young ones who represent hope for the future. You know, I believe the children are our future. You know, teach them well and let them lead the way. Talk about being absurd. That could be a great song by the way. I could. I think it should be. Absolutely. I'm Chris Fanta-Ventor. Hey, Mark. Well, Anderson. Thank you for joining us on our journey to celebrate every day. And join us for all of our adventure on Facebook and Instagram at Destination Celebration Show. Until next time, keep celebrating. Okay, wait. We heard that. All right. You are the breathless hush of evening that trembles on the brink of a lovely song. You are the angel of love that lights a star. The dearest things I know are what you are. Some day my happy arms will hold you and some day. You will know that moment of mine when all the things you all are mine.
