In fact, Tiki found out the news for all about Daniel Jones being released from Brian Dable. Dable sits down for the big CBS meetings like, "Hey guys, we released Daniel Jones." How do you say it to? Was he like, very serious? Was he? - No, he just said to. You know, I apologize for being late, but we released Daniel Jones today and just talked about the process that went through. - Did you gasp, or did you just look at him? - It's weird, it's what I said earlier, Evan. It's like, I kind of expected it, but it's still shocking nonetheless, you know? And so, like, you knew at the end of the season, you'd probably think of it differently, and it would be so out of sight, out of mind, you wouldn't react to it. Really? You'd just be like, "Oh, I've been expecting that "for seven weeks because he got benched "and after week 11." So, of course, you know, he's not here and he's released and he's going somewhere else, but in the middle of the season, it just feels so odd to see a player who was a starter and one of your highest played captains, by the way. Not like just the player, captains of your team, you know, be released, and everybody gets the circumstances in the business side of it, but it's still kind of just, it's just, I don't know, it stuns you. Yeah, it's not like shocking, like, "Oh my God, "I can't believe," or, "Oh, I'm so sad." It's just like, it just stuns you, right? You know what I mean? So, that's how it felt when he said it to us. So when, and I think that things happen sometimes unfairly, results will dictate how we feel about certain things. So, yeah, the Giants have lost five in a row. Their defense hasn't fallen apart by any stretch, but they've lost five games in a row, most of them close games outside of the Philly game. If they got blown out by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they got blown out, 38 to three. People will look back at this week and say, "Oh, that's when Brian Debow lost the locker room." Fair enough. So, you tell me everyone's sad about this. Everyone loves Daniel Jones, totally get it. Could you see this having a negative impact on a room that's already two and eight and is looking to play a football game on Sunday? So, when I say sad, I don't mean, it's like despondent. People are walking around with tears and down faces on their face, he didn't die. Daniel Jones made a lot of money here. Daniel Jones is gonna be perfectly fine as a football player if he wants to continue to do that, or a investor in real estate, if he goes back to North Carolina, I have no idea what he's gonna do with the rest of his football career or his life, but whatever it's going to be, he's going to be fine because he's a great individual person. He's a great man, he's a great leader. All those things that you need, he just wasn't a very good football player for enough time, at enough time. But when I look at the team, we went out to practice it, there's still the same energy, right? There's still the same excitement and there's still the enjoyment. We had to realize, this team is very, very young. And so, while they understand it, change it happens and this maybe hits some of them in the face, I guarantee you, not even like more than a half, probably half a dozen or more, or guess this is what happens in the NFL. You know what I mean? They don't know, they're coming from college or they've been in the NFL for two years. He's like, oh, well, the NFL's, that's a bitch, man. It's hard to be in that league. Yeah, I mean, that sucks, right? So, it's hard to fully put together an answer for what you're asking because every individual's gonna process this differently. But ultimately, at two and eight, you all know we gotta go win and we gotta make this fun. And getting just the third win of the season, you'll feel better. Even if it means nothing relative to your playoff success, it'll make you feel better to win a football game. So, I will tell you something interesting, Tiki. When we argue and disagree about things, I still listen, I still hear what you say. So, I'm gonna bring something up that we've argued many times. In fact, sometimes you've threatened a salt on me and Sean, we bring this up too much. But I need to bring it up in the context of what just happens. So, I'm warning you. Now, luckily, Tiki's at the Giants facility right now. I'm at the studios of WF and, so he can't throw anything at me. But remember what I used to say and Sean- Just say that Sean picks up a hockey puck. (laughing) Remember when we used to say they should've traded Saint Juan Barkley last year? And you would lecture us. Now, while I disagree with you, you used to bring up something that I could never understand, because you played. You said, you guys don't get it. Whatever draft pick you get, think about what that does to the room. Not having Saint Juan Barkley. And while I disagreed with you, I heard you. I listened to you. So, I asked you this question, 'cause at the time of the trade deadline last year, when we made those arguments, the Giants were very similar. They were like two and seven. Like, I'm not even kidding. It was almost an identical situation record- Oh, I remember this. I remember it. Okay, so my question to you is, and you won out, 'cause the Giants didn't trade Saint Juan Barkley and they didn't bring him back as a free agent, but you made a point, hey, Dave's can't lose the locker room. You know, that's the worst sign. You don't think removing a captain, like you said, who's not around anymore, that could have had the same effect that worried you about Saint Juan last year? It's very different, and I'll tell you why. Go. Because last year, when the Giants were struggling and it felt like everybody wanted them to just quit and lay down, they needed their captains to, I don't know, keep the energy alive and fight and play hard and try to win games. And by the way, they did. They won three games in a row with Tommy DeVito and quarterback, as we all remember. And that happened because they didn't have their other captain, by the way, who was Daniel Jones, who was out with the torn ACL. Their captain kept grinding, right? Saint Juan Barkley kept, you know, strapping him on and let's go. And so I think it's a different circumstance because with Daniel Jones, while, yes, he's a captain, we, like everybody understands the business decision that was made here. It wasn't, it wasn't a business, it wouldn't have been a business decision for Saint Juan Barkley. It would have been, yeah, let's just, let's just, let's just get some value for him. And it talked about dismissive, right? You're not worth anything to us anymore. You're worth more to somebody else who's gonna give us draft picks. I don't, I don't, I think it's different. - But knowing that the two offensive captains now are either lost for the year or off the team. Like how do you feel that void? - I don't know. - That's Andrew Thomas was the other offensive captain, and he's done. - That's, that's, that's, that's a question I can't answer until we start seeing what happens on Sunday afternoon. - I want you guys to be honest with me 'cause you have every right to say I don't care, but I wanna ask you guys a question. Would you like to hear right now here on WFAN the opinion of Saint Juan Barkley on the release of Daniel Jones? - I'm gonna guess he says, I'm happy for him. I hope he lends some place better. - Okay. - Yeah, he wants, Sean, I know you, you and Saint Juan don't have the greatest relationship anymore. - Oh, I think it's great. - Are you interested in hearing what Saint Juan asked to say about the news of the day? - I actually am. That was just a long time. Like they went together like peanut butter and jelly. I'm curious what he says. - Ladies and gentlemen, he used to be dead to us, but now we can't deny him. He's just, you know, he's an MVP candidate at Coward, Saint Juan Barkley. - Shut up that Tiki. - That's bad Tiki. - Just wanna clarify. Ladies and gentlemen, Saint Juan Barkley giving his thoughts on the Giants releasing his dear friend Daniel Jones. - I'm not gonna speak too much on that. I've been in contact with him. Our friend shitmates stole a crash throughout the whole process of me being here. It sucks to see how everything went down for him over there. And I got some of the great things to say about him. I think, I'm not gonna really find anybody that can really say a lot of new things about him. But, it's NFL, and hopefully wherever he ends up next, there's gonna get a guy who come in and work and he didn't work for me over there. And I'm doing well over here, and hopefully he can find the same kind of fresh start and success. - The MVP. - So that's Tiki Juan Barkley. - That's kinda what I said. - Yeah, Lincoln held it. - Who edited that? You edited that, Evan? - What do you mean, I edited it? I didn't touch it. I'm gonna read it. - I edited that clip. - What is this, a murder trial? Why don't you put it to work? And then you can worry about who edited stuff. - What are you talking about? - Some of us are working-- - He asked him about being the MVP. - Yeah. - Now go off on your doping rant. Left that in for the New York audience to hear a little non-disclammer. - That's your figure. - The follow-up could have been cut out and sit and said they go right, stepping over Daniel Jones' body to ask him about winning the MVP. - I'm gonna give you an honest answer. That audio is cut by a Philadelphia Eagles reporter. And you think they purposely left the MVP part in as a kind of touchdown spike on your face? - Yes, because everybody knows how to do a clean edit out. I know the audience may not understand that, but if you put audio out, you know. So in a clip, you know that the New York audience is gonna listen to literally three seconds are left on there where somebody asking about the MVP. Are you kidding me? - Well, you're really not over it, are you, Sean? - I just annoyed. We just released Daniel Jones. I gotta hear a sequel in the MVP in Philadelphia. You want me to throw up all over myself? - Are you an adult or are you a child? - Well, we know the answer to that. Total free number is 888-808-1019. Gary is calling from Hackett's town, New Jersey. How are you, Gary? - I'm doing well. How are you guys? - Wonderful. It's a beautiful Friday in New York City. What could be better? - Well, it's good to hear. I was just calling up because I added my own theory on maybe where Daniel Jones might look to head in this next place. You know, I know the Philadelphia Eagles are not that happy with Kenny Pickett as their backup. And he's got a buddy there. He's got a friend that he might, you know, be enticed to go hang out with at least in the locker room if even if he's not going to be starting. - Right, right. - You know, take a league minimum because he already made his money for the year. - Sure. - And maybe go win a Super Bowl. - How about that? Gary is suggesting that Daniel Jones follow his friend, Saquan Barkley. Basically, kick Kenny Pickett to the side who needs him and becomes the backup in Philadelphia. First of all, I ask both of you guys this. Would that bother you? - Probably not. - Probably not. - Sean, would that bother you? - If he went to Philadelphia-- - Well, he's not gonna-- - See, the difference is he's not gonna play. - Right, it would bother me if Hertz got hurt and he played him on a Super Bowl. - Right. - So, yes, that would make me toss and turn, yes. - The problem with Saquan, you know, not that it's a problem, but just to let's say the reality with Saquan is that you knew he was going to go to Philadelphia and be amazing. And it's exactly what's happening. So what you feared when Saquan left the New York Giants and if he had done it and somewhere else in Houston, we'd still be like, "Oh, man, Saquan." But we'd be like, "Yeah, Saquan, that's good for you." But when he does it in Philadelphia, it's like, "Oh, how could we even like root for you?" - No, I gotcha. - You know what I mean? - I totally gotcha, man. More on where Daniel Jones could end up and the ramifications of it coming up in a few minutes, toll-free numbers, 888-808-1019. Kyle's in West Orange, New Jersey. How are you, Kyle? - I'm doing good because we're exercising the demons here in New York and in the New York area with our football teams. Like in the Jets, we're doing. Douglas, these guys are gone. We have to turn the page. Daniel Jones was a good guy. He went to one playoff, but he wasn't winning in this system. He wasn't growing in this system. And I'm hearing like everybody just loves this guy. He's going, "Gee, he's just so good." And he's so this, and he's so great. He's gotta go. 'Cause he's not gonna learn in this system. So he should go to a team where he can learn and also he's been hurt. So he's gotta heal. He's gotta go through the whole thing all over again. And he's gotta look. He's gonna get killed in this system. How many times did I hear Tiki go? Well, you know, he missed the guy. He missed the cut. He missed the wide receiver down here. He missed the tighter right here. He just didn't see it. He's just not looking. And he giant fans, 'cause I brought him to jail. Look, I go with the Jets. So, you know, I'm in the same hole. Look, they're sitting here. You're mad that this guy's going. You gotta be kidding me. Thank you, thank you, Kyle. We appreciate it. That was a great phone call. But I think you're missing the difference between not celebrating the end of a failure and being happy. Like, there's nothing to be happy about. That's the only difference. You act like, "Oh, it's great. Joe Douglas got fired." You pretty, I didn't celebrate today, Joe Douglas got fired. I was like, "It's another son. My franchise is an incompetent mess. It's another exclamation point on the failure of the run that he had." So, I think people digest the end of errors in this town very differently. It's one thing when someone great retires or is forced out. Like, look, unfortunately, Joe Torrey didn't just retire. He got forced out. Tom Coughlin didn't retire. He got forced out. But I think we were able to take a step back with both Joe and Tom and say, "Hey, they had great runs. We're celebrating." You can't celebrate failures, but you also can't be just happy that it's over, 'cause now the tough part begins of replacing it. Yeah, Daniel Jones is no longer a New York giant. Now what? Now, hopefully the now what is Tommy DeVito, and that feels good, and he wins games, and he proves that he's valuable for whatever role we want to re-evaluate him at the end of the season. But right now, Daniel Jones is gone, and the Giants have a football game to play. That's the most important thing. And in the NFL, you just can't dwell. You just don't have time to feel sorry for yourself. You don't have time to be hurt. You don't have time for anything. You have to be ready to play a game in a very short amount of time, with whether physical or mental or emotional distress. And that's what the Giants are facing right now. And look, I'm not saying they're, again, despondent here, but they love Daniel Jones. And he's gone in an instant, and now they have football to play. And we'll see what happens. I mean, am I encouraged a little bit by watching Tommy DeVito and seeing how he is around his teammates? Sure, absolutely. You have a twinkle in your eye about it, T. You have a twinkle in your eye. There's something about Tommy, right? I mean, I don't know if you guys have met him yet, but he's just got like an energy about, you know. If you've met him, you know what I'm talking about, right? And so I think, I don't know what that's gonna, how that's gonna translate on the field on Sunday, but I do know that there is that. Well, hold on a second. Did you get that twinkle in that meeting, that exclusive meeting that you were just in with the great Andrew Catalan and Jason McCordy and AJ Ross, as you're sitting there at a table. It was like an hour ago. It was Steve McKee and Andy Goldberg. I don't know who those people are, but I'm a producer of my director. That's all who was in the room. Oh, okay. Did Tommy get that? Did you get the twinkle while Tommy? Like face to face. Good stuff from Tommy. Yeah? Tommy was on the money. Well, we heard some stories. I don't know if people know yet, but if you want to hear him, you got to tune in. Oh, come on, I love it. He's giving us the teeth. I thought I'm the only one who does these dopey teeth. Yeah, Sunday, one o'clock on CBS. So just sitting with him, because this is something where obviously not used to, but you do this every week with quarterbacks. When you sit in the room with guys, there's like a different feel, not even watching that, just a different feeling communicating with them. Well, it's just, it's with him versus who, or him versus him. Well, I don't want to put anybody down, but I don't know, Russell Wilson. We argued about him yesterday, the only reason I brought him up. And no comment, I will say this. There is a confidence that with every word that comes out of the Tommy DeVito's mouth. And maybe he doesn't like believe it, but it's like he's saying it so convincingly, there's no way you can't believe it. You know, and so there's something to that. And trust me, we've all seen this, whether it was in a sports room, or whether it was in a political one. You've seen someone just tell you exactly how it is, and do it so convincingly, you have no choice but to believe that. Oh, I know. And Tommy is that. And you can't help but gravitate towards that. You can't help but be engaged. And it's charisma, right? It's like you're just attracted to wanting to be around the guy. And I think that's what some leaders do. And he knows how to be in and out of any type of situation. And you see him interacting and practice with everybody. It's just, it's unique. So to speak. So I love that about him. The question is, does it translate into being a good football player on Sunday after? Right. So just to put it in my language, you're telling me, Tommy DeVito has a lot of Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama. That's exactly right. Wow. I think it's more the Italian thing. So, Tommy, I don't think Reagan or Obama were Italian. No, by the way. But boy, they could tell you stuff. And forget if you thought they were good presidents or not. You buy whatever they were selling, man. That's exactly right. Let's go to Paul in Huntington, New Jersey. How are you today, Paul? Good. Evan Teake, what's up, guys? What's up? Hey, here's my analogy of Daniel Jones being released from the Giants. It's like when you have a grandparent in the hospital, and they're not doing so well for a couple of years, and then they pass away. So it's a sad day, but it's a big relief. Wow. Wow. I wouldn't go that far. Holy mackerel. That's again, I just said 10 minutes ago, or he didn't die. 20 minutes ago, he didn't die. But he's-- who knows what he's going to do? He might go sign with a team immediately, or get his agent to go find a team immediately, or he can sit back with $108 million or whatever the heck he's made over the last six years and say, I'm going to take my time. I'm going to reevaluate what I want to be or where I want to be. And then I'm going to make a decision. No need to rush this. I love the analogy. I just wouldn't have used it on Daniel Jones. Look, he's not wrong. It's just not the one you use. You know, I would use that on someone who we celebrate. Like, the way I viewed it when my grandmother, both my grandmothers, both my grandfathers died, because they all did. They're all no longer with us. They both, all four of them, lived to like a good age, right? Like a solid, solid age where I remember saying to my mom and dad, I'm celebrating their life. I'm not going to be sad today. I'm going to think about all the great times I had with them, and really the great life that they had, especially my-- I mean, all of them. Both my grandfathers were war heroes. I wanted to think about that. And so I think with like a great player, I'm making this analogy much more serious. When it's a great player, like-- Aaron Rodgers in a couple weeks. Shut up! What? You just had a great player. You would celebrate him. So when Aaron Rodgers retires at the end of the year, you're going to celebrate him. I'm the peanut gallery. We're not going to have a celebration. Aaron Rodgers on the show. All right, thank you. I want to feel what pure love feels like. I was thinking more along the lines of Tiki, Derek Jeter, Eli, like guys who succeeded here, guys who were sad. Actually, that's not a good analogy, because you were at the top of your game. Jeter is probably better. You know why it works with Jeter and not you? Why? Because you can still play. And so it's like, I wasn't happy you left. Like that's-- giant friends are like, what the hell? We're going to miss you. I didn't want to play. Which is very different. I think when a guy's great and you know they're done, that's where I think it fits. Where you just like, oh my god, I love you, Derek, but you hit in 225. Patrick Ewing. When he left the Knicks, it was a shell of a shell. Willie Mays, I always hear from-- I heard it from my grandfather when he was around. Like, you're almost sad, and you're like, all right, this is actually a good thing, because I don't want to remember the bad times. And I think those are reserved for the great players, guys that we love. Daniel Jones was more of-- it just didn't work. Yeah, like who was it? Jerry Rice in Seattle. Yeah. Type of thing. Like when it's over. Yeah, you just know. It's like, man, that's Jerry Rice. And Minko, his last year of updates. [LAUGHTER] [INAUDIBLE] That's horrific. It's party time. Wow. I love Mink. I know he's in the Bahamas, so he couldn't hear that. Yeah, yeah. Well, he likes the Odyssey app, so you never know. Right. We'll come back with our updated predictions, you as well, on where Daniel Jones will end up. Tiki is alive at the giant practice facility on the very, very busy days. This center of the sports universe today with everything that's gone on. And of course, Tiki will be calling the giant buccaneer game Sunday, 1 o'clock on CBS. But where will Daniel Jones end up? We made those predictions yesterday, thinking it was going to happen in 2025. We were already talking about now. Check what we said yesterday. And what we think are going to happen for the rest of the season. We didn't think they will. You guys, Tiki described it as at the Giants facility today that, even though it makes sense, it was still a surprise. It was a shock when Brian Dable told you the news earlier today. What a way to find out news. The coach walks in, sits down, and says, I Tiki, we just released Daniel Jones. What's up? How's your day going on? Yes, and officially we knew it before anybody else, because it was not released at that point. Yeah, 10 minutes later, Pat Hamlin came in and said, yep, it's out there. Get ready for your press conference, Dave's. Out of curiosity, when Dable-- We pumped them up for it, by the way. You pumped too? Oh, for the press conference? Yeah, we gave Dave a pep talk. Nice. When you got the information, like Dave says to you, all right, guys, we're releasing Daniel Jones. No one knows this yet. Did you have an urge to, A, tweet it out and break a news story? No, I don't tweet ever. OK. Next is not a platform that I-- I understand. B, participate in, text the Evan and Tiki chat. Hey, I got news. Now, you ended up doing that in fairness, but you wait. You know why I didn't go through? Go ahead. Because I sent it, like, many minutes before it actually got to you guys. Oh. Because you couldn't have done anything with it either, because we're not on air. And I would have kicked your asses if you had tweeted it or something. What if I called into the midday show before my old partner Craig did and broke the news? We were in their studio, or not studio, their meeting, like the big conference meeting room, and there's no signal in there. And so I was like, the Giants are releasing Daniel Jones. It's going to come out in five minutes or whatever it is. And it didn't send. They must do that on purpose. Probably. So guys aren't sitting at the team meeting, jacking around on their phone. That's what I'm saying? I would not be shocked. It's actually very smart. All right, so Tiki got the news from Brian Dave. I know we all got a little bit later on. But yesterday, we were talking about Daniel Jones's future, and we actually all made predictions for what we thought DJ would end up in 2025. So it is a little bit different, because we were figuring it would be next year. Just for the record, here are our predictions that we gave yesterday. Sean Moore asked predicted the Denver Broncos. Tommy Lugauer predicted the Carolina Panthers. I predicted the Washington Commanders. And Tiki predicted the Las Vegas Raiders. Does, and we'll go through the room here, do your opinions change? Are you going to double down on your initial thought, even though the circumstances have changed, and the timing has changed? Or, and you obviously have the right to, we can rip it up and start over. So Sean, I'll start with you. You said the Broncos yesterday. Obviously, the Denver Broncos are getting a pretty damn good rookie year out of Bonix. Their backup is Jared Stidham. And their third string quarterback is Zachariah Wilson. So I assume you're going to pivot off the Denver Broncos. No, Broncos are alive. And I'm going back to the connection there. The quarterback coach is Daniel Jones, former backup Davis Webb, who I think puts in a good word. The Broncos are alive. If Bonix should go down, do you want Daniel Jones? You don't want Jared Stidham playing. I'd rather have Daniel Jones playing. And that means Zach Wilson is caught from the Denver Broncos. I will take Daniel Jones to Denver. That's a man. There's no way Zach Wilson's getting cut. You know why? Why? Because Sean Payton is arrogant as hell. Oh. And when Sean Payton tells you, I'm going to make Zach Wilson some money. I'm going to turn him into a player that people want. He's not giving up on him. I'm just telling you. And you know what else? But couldn't he just go to the practice squad if he was really you know what I mean? No, I mean, somebody would pick him up. Somebody could pick him up, yeah. And Zach more confidence than Zach Wilson. Then a dude just doesn't hurt. Maybe he would go make some money on his own. But I get the sense that Sean Payton wants to do it. Yeah. And Sean Payton seems, I don't know him. You guys do, obviously. Well, Sean doesn't. He just named his daughter after him. So I guess it's a little bit different. He seems very vindictive. And so he's not vindictive. No, he's just very sure of himself. I think he wants to stick it to your guy Nate Hackett and say, look, I got Zach Wilson. Look, I perform magic. Look how great he is. You all failed. That's what I think. But not what the hell do I know. All right, so you're sticking with the Broncos. Tiki, you said the Las Vegas Raiders yesterday. Obviously, the Raiders are in this weird spa where they're sort of tanking, but we're not really sure. They've got Gardner Minshew. They've got Desmond Ritter. Do you stick with the Raiders? Aiden O'Connell is the backup technically. Oh, yeah, you know, Connor, I forgot about him. So I don't know. So we're now thinking short-term or long-term. Well, once he clears waivers, he could sign immediately. That's so, yeah. So here's the thing. He's going to get signed by one of two different scenarios. The first one is, let's pick up a veteran, younger backup-- or not even backup, just quarterback-- because our team is bad and we need to maybe create competition for whoever is in camp for us next year. Let's get a head start, see if we can sign them, you know, to a long-term deal or a two-year deal or something before he hits free agency type of thing. That's one thing. The other scenario, which I think is more likely now-- so this is going to eliminate my Las Vegas Raiders pick-- a team that has a real shot at going deep into the postseason but does not have a quality veteran backup quarterback. Yep, yep, yep. And so there's a couple of teams that qualify here. Philly is one, we're kind of joking about it, but Philly is definitely one. I wonder if they would give up on Kenny Pickett after they brought him in just less than a year ago. I agree, so I'm just talking about the teams that are in this situation. Yeah, yeah. So Philly is one. Detroit is another one. Hendon Hooker is the backup for Jarangoff. Yeah, exactly. I think Minnesota is a third. Nick Mullins is the current backup for Sam Darnall. Exactly. And I can't-- I'm not going to say Atlanta. It's not in Arizona. It's so it's one of those three teams. Interesting. And so because I think even down in Houston, they like Davis Mills as their backup quarterback. Obviously Justin Fields, who played in the game last night threw a-- I don't know what play they were making over with it, whatever, like they must like him enough. So I think it's really those three teams. And so I think I'm going to say Minnesota. Minnesota, interesting. Maybe because Minnesota has an odd familiarity with him. Because two years ago-- He beat him. He beat him. He beat their asses. Can I change my answer? Why? Because I think I have a better answer. Good. I'm going to go to the Green Bay Packers for this one year, up ahead of Malik Willis and joining Robert Salah. Now he's just being a troll. That's all you have to say. No, but it actually makes sense. Jordan, love has been banged up a bunch this year. Yeah, but Malik Willis played well when he was asked to fill in. That's the problem. Malik Willis has proven that he can win games if he has to-- I'll take it a step further, Sean, and I mentioned this earlier in the season. I think Malik Willis played well and off where during the off season, teams that are kind of transitioning a little bit. Fidelity brokerage services, LLC member, N-Y-S-E-S-I-P-C. - Look, let's give a look see. - Maybe, I'm just also leaning on, I do think that the same reason the Giants pay them has to come to play here. He won a playoff game. So if you're a playoff team with some experience, Malik Wills hasn't done that. - All right, Tommy said the Carolina Panthers yesterday and in the Carolina situation, I guess, it kinda does make sense now too because they could give them a look and say, "Hey, it's Daniel Jones, a guy we'd wanna "not necessarily make our future quarterback, "but maybe he's the bridge "if they're gonna draft another quarterback "and he'll give up on Bryce Young." - Yeah, well also with Carolina, because of their division, they might, they have a chance to get to the playoffs. - What? Yes, 'cause it's three games back in the division. - What? See, they're three games back. - Hold on a second, let me look at those standings again. - I'm just telling you. - In Atlanta, six and seven, the Carolina Panthers are three and six and five. - You're right, they're two back in the loss column. - Two back in the loss column. So they could win that, I mean, they could be under 500 and win the division, which by the way, is not that uncommon in the FC self. - And they end the season in Tampa and in Atlanta. - All right. - Can you guys imagine if DJ goes to Carolina and he ends up playing and they make a playoff? - Yes, he knows. - Now that we just have that conversation, it makes a lot of sense. - And his performance in Germany might've started the Carolina run. - That's right, Tommy, so based on all that, are you gonna stick with Carolina pivot? - So I think I'm gonna stick with Carolina because it makes sense for next year because he could compete with either a guy they draft or if they keep Rice Young, so he'll be the guy to compete with a young quarterback. But if I would give a wild card team here that's gonna make the playoffs the Cardinals. Clayton tunes their back up. I've never even heard of Clayton tune and I watch a lot of college football. So I feel like he could give a veteran guy, Kyla Murray's a guy that runs around a lot, could get banged up and that's a team that could win the division. - Yeah, just coming off an injury too, from a year ago or at least a lingering effect of it from a year ago. Who was the backup in... What would we just talk about? - And where? - In Carolina. - Carolina, Andy Dalton. - Is he healthy now? - That's a great question 'cause he got to a car accident and he actually missed a little bit of time. - Yeah, he sprained his thumb, but Bryce Young had won the game and I believe that he was eligible to play again, but they're gonna stick with Bryce Young. - Got it, so you know what, now it doesn't make sense with Carolina 'cause he had Dalton's there. - So the reason why I'm gonna disagree is I think Daniel Jones wants to play. I think just as a regular human, he goes into his car today after his meeting with John Marra, after he was all upset, he didn't get an autograph from Tiki and he goes home. I think in his brain, he's like, "I wanna play football." But then I think you have a conversation with your agent and your agent's gonna give you advice and say, "Okay Daniel, totally get it, obviously it's up to you, "but I wanna walk you through what's best for you." And I have a feeling his agent's gonna tell him what's best for you is to not play. And what's best for you is to go to a team that clearly has a quarterback and barring something unforeseen like a major injury, you're not gonna play. And I think that rehabs your value. I think that rehabs the way kind of teams view you. You get to sit behind a really good quarterback, wait out a couple of months, learn from that guy, pick up some more information from another coaching staff, and then re-enter free agency. And when you re-enter free agency, I got a feeling Daniel, I'm his agent talking, it's gonna rehab you a little bit. 'Cause the risk of going to Vegas or Carolina, while absolutely there's an avenue to play, you're learning a new playbook, you're learning a new system, what if you struggle, like, we love you DJ, but that's a tough spot, it's a tough spot with you in that. And I don't think that's gonna benefit you long-term. So I have a feeling his agent's gonna advise, let's go to a place where you're likely not going to play. So then you go down the list and you say, all right, where are you not gonna play? Where are you gonna get to learn from a really good coaching staff? Now I look at Kansas City and I say, well I got Carson Wentz, I mean, are they gonna dump Carson Wentz for Daniel Jones? - Probably not. - Probably not. You look at Buffalo and you say, all right, are they gonna dump Mitchell Trubisky for Daniel Jones? - Probably not. - Probably not. And then you have a team like the Washington commanders. A team I said-- - The commanders. - A team I predicted yesterday. And I say, Marcus Barriota. (grunting) I get to put him with a young guy who basically Dave's wanted to replace you with anyway. I give you a chance to sit there. They got a good coaching staff. My prediction is the Washington commanders. I'm doubling down on the Washington commanders as a place he goes. The other place I thought about was Baltimore, was, you know, Josh Johnson's fine, but Daniel Jones is better. And you sit behind Lamar. I thought Baltimore was the other place I was thinking about. So I'm thinking about the Beltway area, but I'm gonna stick with the Washington commanders. - Yeah, it'll be interesting. I mean, it'll be a little blip, I think, when it happens, when it signs. It's not gonna be met with massive fanfare when Daniel Jones signs with a new team. But it will be an interesting little news story when it does happen. - Now, can we address the elephant in the room? - Which is? - Because everybody-- - A lot. - Is it you show, well, it kind of refers to you. As soon as Daniel Jones got released, collectively around our country, people rushed to Twitter or X to tweet the exact same thing. And I wanna credit our very own Sean Morash. Sean was the first one. He was the first one I saw. Our morning show host, Greg Gianati, will be hosting Bomer and Geo live in a couple of hours. He was second. So I put him, I give him the silver medal right after Sean. And then everyone else followed. They all copied Morash and then eventually Jay. And you know what that idea was? - No, tell him. - Jerry Jones is signing him before Thanksgiving. - How about this, yeah. - So we get Daniel Jones versus Tommy DeVito. And I hand it to you, Sean. It's a great idea. It's sexy as all hell. It's a Steinbrenner-esque move. It's not gonna happen. - Of course. - But-- - It's funny. I'll give that to you guys. Very funny. - Let's be honest. The NFL right now, and look, with gambling and fantasy and everything, they're never really worried about this, is staring at the barrel of their 4.30 Thanksgiving game being Cooper Rush versus the New York Giants, and it looks awful on paper. If that ends up being Daniel Jones versus Tommy DeVito, that is sexy as all hell. So I know it won't happen, but that would be great for the NFL if they got that. - It would be great TV. It reminds me of Steinbrenner, 'cause I remember he kind of did that with Doc Gooden back in the day, where he signed them, sent them down a Tampa, and five minutes later, he's starting against the Mets at Cheesecake. (laughing) And it was great TV. It was great theater. So I think we all agree it'd be great theater. It's just not gonna happen. - Yeah, and honestly, it could be if they didn't invest in Trey Lance. I still think at some point this year, Dallas is bad as Lance is. When you'd trade a fourth ramp, they can be squeezing its laws. You're gonna have to turn to him before you're signing Daniel Jones today. - Well, it's really odd about Trey Lance. Like the non-playing, the Cooper Rush has not been anything the right home about, and Trey Lance can't even sniff it. They traded for him. It's not like they got him on the cheap. It gave stuff up for him. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Jerry Jones, if you're listening, you know what to do. Make things interesting again, book the trend, tell Mike McCarthy, who's daddy, I'm daddy, and go sign Daniel Jones. It'll never happen, but I credit you, Sean, and everyone else who followed you. It's a wonderful idea. - Let's do Docs. - Let's do General Manager, of which I am. (laughing) - If Dallas did this, who do you think wins the game Giants are Cowboys? - Cowboys. - Really? - Yeah. - I don't think they know Daniel Jones. - No, but I think it's Tiki. - So it works. - This is just like a sports fan thing, so clearly as an analyst, you're gonna have a day, you're gonna just break it down, I respect that. As a sports fan, we know how to sense. (laughing) Come on, giant fans, jet fans. We all got to know where this would go. It though four touchdown passes, it's sticking up all of our areas. - CD lamb would break a yardage record. (laughing) Probably. - Right. - And it just plays of over 50 yards. - Yes. - Something crazy like that. - Something really, really obnoxious. Let's go to Steve in Smithtown, New York, at afternoon Steve. - Hey guys, big fan Tiki, your legend. - Thank you. - I got a team for you, welcome. I got a team for both scenarios. For the terrible team they got nothing going for. I think the Jaguars, 'cause Mac Jones is Mac Jones, and Trevor Lawrence is Trevor Lawrence, but I mean nothing really there. - Right, and then-- - And then-- - He picked up his shoulders jacked. - It's not a throwing shoulder, thanks. - Correct, and for a good team that could use them, there was one that I really like lines, but then another interesting one could be the Chiefs, 'cause Chiefs kinda like the Patriots that everyone hates them now, 'cause they're so good, and they'll find a use set of guys in the league. Thanks, Doc. They might find a use of Dan and Jones as like a taste and nail type of guy. I don't know. - Can you imagine that Andy re-wippin' 'em out like a taste and nail? I think there's also a team in the middle. So we talk about a bad team that says, "Well, let's just see what we got." A good team who says a backup. How about a team that's sort of in it and doesn't have a good backup? Like literally you're just trying to improve your quarterback situation. I would almost say it was similar to the jet situation a year ago, where they were in it, but they just needed to improve the position. I'll give you a team that fits that, Bill. - Who? - The Miami Dolphins, because they're in it. Two is their starter, he's injury prone, and their backup is Skyler Thompson. Daniel Jones is an upgrade over Skyler Thompson, so I think in terms of a team that's in it, and it's literally just, "Hey, how can we improve ourselves this year? "We're not even evaluating. "We're trying to win, and we gotta protect ourselves," in case two unfortunately gets hurt again. The Miami Dolphins are the perfect team. - What's interesting is to be, you talk about, I think there's a lot of teams that Daniel Jones is the better player to be a backup. It's just not a ton of great, not even great, forget great. There's just not a ton of experienced backup quarterbacks in the NFL, and if you have the chance to get one, whether or not your love is tenure at the New York Giants or not, experience matters. Like being able to draw on some positive or negative situations that you've been through, it's important not just for you, if you have to play, but for your team, and the one with the starting quarterback. - You're right. - And so there's some value when you have a guy who's played as much as Daniel Jones has played for the New York Giants to some team. - Oh, there's a good one. Here's a good one, and I don't wanna spoil this caller's one. So let's just go right to him, 'cause I think this is a great one. Jim and Carmel, New York, go ahead, Jim. - Hey guys, I don't know, if I'm a broken quarterback, I wanna get myself with San Francisco, where Shanahan can sprinkle a little magic on me. Brock Purdy's been banged up. - Exactly. - We actually see some playing time. - Yes. - And then next year, you know, whatever happens in that quarterback room seems to be working, look at Sam Darnell. - That's a great idea. Their backup is Brandon Allen, and Josh Dobbs is on that roster. And Brock Purdy, I think at an MRI this week on his shoulder, they're saying he's okay, but he is banged up. How about him in San Francisco? - I mean, I could see it, 'cause he fits a little bit of what Kyle Shanahan wants to do, a somewhat athletic quarterback, someone who's smart, right, and someone who's big, but I think the getting rid of the ball thing is what Kyle demands. I don't know if Daniel fits that bill enough. It's interesting, but I don't know. - As a Giants fan who just sits here murmurs in anger, you wanna have me fully aroused in January, a niner game that Daniel Jones is starting versus the Philadelphia Eagles and the playoffs sign me up. - Well, hold on a second, I'm confused by you. - Why's that? - Tellin' me, Daniel Jones who earlier in the show you labeled a quitter, those are your words. - Yeah, no, I mean, literally what he did, not the actual person he is. - That's fine, Daniel Jones is a quitter. A guy that you're glad he's gone. You're telling me if he's quarterbacking the Niners and they're facing the Eagles, which means clearly we're all rooting for the Niners, you'd have no problem wanting him to have success. - I would not feel that way. - Evan, yes, because all the national media is done to tear down the Giants, could you believe they paid Daniel Jones and didn't pay Saequan Barkley? How apropos would it be in the postseason if a team led by Daniel Jones ended the season of Saequan Barkley and Eagles? - 'Cause it would be-- - Yes, I'll paint my face burnt gold or whatever the hell their color is. I'll be so into that game. - You don't think that would make the Giants look bad? That now he goes to San Francisco and like magic pixie dust is all over him? Like I always want to describe? - Here's why it wouldn't. - Why? - I think we're all in agreement, everybody's sensible. The Niners somehow have the magic elixir for all of these quarterbacks. I mean, they turned Sam Donald back in the Minnesota. I think we would just assume, look, here's the Niners system again. I don't think, I think the Niners of a one team Daniel Jones could go start a playoff game with maybe win where it's not a negative indictment on the Giants. I really believe that. - Man, why 'cause this staff is better and more complete and just has a better track record? - This is what the Niners have done. They turned Brock Purdy, Mr. Orellevin. I mean, down the line, they've gone. Everybody just trusts every quarterback that comes from the Giants. - I'm just putting myself in your shoes. What I try to do as a sports fan, if I was a giant fan and I was watching an NFC championship game between the Eagles who I hate and the Niners who are quarterbacked by the guy I jettisoned, that's cold hell. That's cold. - I mean, I'm a living nightmare. - I was thinking more wild card round, but I mean, all right, NFC championship game. - In fact, I'll make it specific so that you don't think I'm pulling your chain, right? I'm gonna show this to you with an actual example. Kind of unrealistic, but hey, I'll walk you through it. The AFC championship game is between the Miami Dolphins, a team I hate, right? Kind of like you guys with the Eagles, you'd say it's a fair comparison. - Sure, yeah. - Okay, and they're facing the now quarterback by Zach Wilson Denver Broncos. - I'm aroused for that too. - I'd be in hell! I'd be in hell, Tiki, I'd be miserable. I'd be like, this is the worst thing I've ever seen in my life. You're celebrating that. - I'd be like, this is horrific! - I would not be. I don't think it's horrific at all. I think it's great theater, and I would not be mad at that. - Hm, but he's funny 'cause I'm just looking at all these backup quarterbacks now, and I'm looking at the ones that fit the kind of player that Daniel Jones is, and you said it before, Evan. - Yeah. - And I don't know why I didn't think of it before you said it, but the more, when you said it, I was like, man, that might be the one. - Go. - The Baltimore Ravens? - And the Ravens make sense. - And, look, nothing to Josh Johnson, but just think about what Lamar does. - Yeah. - He's a good passer. He's not Pat Mahomes type passer. He's not Josh Allen type passer. He can make those throws, and he moves, but he is an athletic quarterback who you respect the threat of the run. You know, what has Daniel Jones done a lot this year for the New York Giants? He's pulling the ball out and he's running, whether he's not afraid to take hits, much to the chagrin of giant fans early in the season and was like, Daniel, stop taking hits. Get down. You don't need to, you know, be physical like that, but I think he was actually trying to prove something with Daniel Jones. I think he was trying to prove that he was healthy, that he was either whether from his knee or from his neck, but he's smart enough to learn a system. He's smart enough to be able to be a zone-read quarterback. He has a big enough arm to hit the Zayflowers of the world down the field and the Batemons, et cetera, and he'll be protected because of the running back. Yeah. You're getting into Derek Henry. So when you said that, it clicked. I think that's the one. Yeah, let's all change our opinion. I'm gonna go to the Ravens now, too. I had commanders of Ravens. I'm going to the Ravens. It just makes a lot of sense. It does. It does. Sometimes I say a lot of stuff and it doesn't make sense. And then occasionally it's like, wow, you said commanders. I was like, yeah, no, that's not it. But when you said Baltimore, it's like, dude, of course that is. I think about how Daniel Jones early in his career, we talked about, even in 2022, forget early in his career, back in 2022, he had a successful season. You said put that in quotes with his 15 touchdowns and minimal interceptions. But everything Sean said was, well, he had seven rushing touchdowns. He rushed for 700 yards in 2022. Daniel Jones can be a viable runner. And not that Lamar Jackson just runs the football. I don't want to put him in that athletic quarterback box. But it's what they do in their offense. And Daniel Jones would be a very interesting compliment to what Lamar Jackson does. There's a term in sports. It's kind of mean, but it's also accurate. Like you're a poor man's this. You're a poor man's that. Rick Reed, one of my favorite Mets from the late '90s, was a poor, poor man's Greg Maddox. Daniel Jones is a poor, poor man's Lamar Jackson. He really is. He's not as good, but he's a poor man's version. We'll come back. We'll get to more of your calls throughout the program. Tiki is live from the giant facility, the site of everything. After meeting with Brian Daybell and Tommy DeVito, get more inside information as we get you set for Giants Buccaneers on Sunday.
Hour 2: Evan and Tiki talk to Giants fans, some happy, some not, on the release of Daniel Jones. Plus, possible landing spots for Jones now that he's a free agent.
