This is AP News. I'm Rita Falle. Donald Trump's Hush Money Trial resumes this morning in New York, and the AP's Julie Walker is at the courthouse. For the first time in history, prosecutors are presenting a criminal case against a former American president to a jury as they accuse Donald Trump of a Hush Money scheme aimed at preventing damaging stories about his personal life from becoming public. A jury here in Manhattan at this criminal court is to hear opening statements today from prosecutors and defense lawyers in the first of four criminal cases against Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee to reach trial. The arguments are expected to give the 12-person jury the clearest view to date of the allegations at the heart of the case. At court in Manhattan, I'm Julie Walker. He says his command did not live up to the task they were entrusted with. The head of Israeli military intelligence has resigned. The AP's Charles D'Ilesma. The military says the head of Israel's intelligence directorate, Ahir Ron Haliva, has resigned over the failures surrounding Hamas's October 7 attack, becoming the first senior figure to step down over his role in the dead list assault in Israel's history. The resignation sets the stage for more fallout from Israel's top security brass. I'm Charles D'Ilesma. The Pentagon says it could get weapons moving to Ukraine within days if the Senate and President Biden give final approval to the plan. Experts say it could take weeks, though, for weapons to reach troops. Papua New Guinea's prime minister is accusing President Biden of disparaging that nation, saying the president appeared to imply recently that his uncle had been eaten by cannibals there during World War II. Top climate monitoring organizations say Europe is the fastest warming continent, temperatures rising at roughly twice the global average. This is AP News. It's Earth Day. More than 190 countries are celebrating Earth Day. In Mexico on Sunday, the sound of blowing into seashells as people gathered in Mexico's city to present greetings and blessings to the God of Rain. This year's Earth Day focuses on the threat that plastics pose to our environment. Judith Anke of Beyond Plastics says you can cut down on the use of plastics at the grocery store by buying things in glass jars and fresh produce in no packaging. Even small steps make a difference because big supermarkets notice when people ask for less packaged material.
