The national predators beating them tonight for to Roger Zarena. And this is the Canucks Central Post Game Show presented by number five orange on the home here Canucks sports net 650 and the sports net radio networks out to our Shaw and bignazar Brett Fessling under welcoming Randy Janden to the conversation in just a moment as well. You can grab a phone line, 604-280-0650 or toll free, 1-888-275-0650, and keep your thoughts streaming in to our Dunbar Lumber text inbox, 650-650. The Canucks tailed for a lot of this game. Down one nothing in the first, come back and tie it. The preds take a two one lead, Canucks trailing in the third, and then in less than a minute, the Vancouver Canucks storm backs for two goals to take the lead, the roof popping off this building allowed us it's been in over a decade. And what a magnificent night here to kick off the postseason for your Vancouver Canucks and Randy by me in that third period was absolute bedlam here at Roger Zarena. That was a thriller boys, that was a heck of a game to cover. And through 40 minutes you're kind of wondering where this one's going. But within those 12 seconds, you get that goal by Quinn Hughes who, you know, Nashville did a pretty good job of limiting in the offensive zone guys, but he gets that shot through moving from right to left like he's been doing all year long with a little bit of traffic and then Dakota Josh on his boys getting the job done 12 seconds later. That was a sequence that this team needed and they got it the perfect time. >> Yeah, absolutely, it really was. And I mean, you look at that third period, Dakota Josh, what comes up big, he gets the game when he gold, they put the game away making it forward too. We talked about those guys being able to find a level here. They really picked off where they left off in the regular season. >> Throughout the course of that game, that line. There's Joshua setting up Lindholm for the goal, getting that puck off the wall. There's Joshua, there's Lindholm freezing that puck along the wall, creating that turnover and engineering that chance that ultimately Joshua converts the Canucks on the way to win game one. >> Yeah, four check, right? Lindholm gets on it. We saw him get another gear in the games leading up the postseason. He seemed to elevate it tonight. And I think that four check getting on puck's turning over that a lot of success behind the net generating opportunity. >> And we've talked a lot about as well, you know, there's more physicality in this game. When he played in Calgary, you didn't really see it as much. But I think he's embracing this role here in Vancouver with that line where you start to see a little bit more, you know, kind of lowering that shoulder behind the net, engaging more. I didn't really see that in Calgary as much where he, I think he understands what he has to be on that line. It's a very, very different from that top line duty he had in Calgary. >> You mentioned lowering the shoulder the way he takes the angle on Lowe's on there. He goes, he detaches from Lowe's on early and then gets that angle just to freeze his shoulders. Can't get off the wall and Garland's dogged pursuit on that helps create that opportunity as well. But Lindholm throughout the course of this game, I thought it was fantastic. That line, you'd figure you'd see that line thrive as they have, but Lindholm, huge catalysts as well. >> Yeah, and as a past D man, Lindholm, the angles he takes in terms of taking away options. He shuts an option off and then usually leans on a certain part of the body where it kind of handcuffs guys, right? And that creates those turnovers. So a very smart fortune. It felt like in that moment, he kind of just gotten Lowe's on his blind spot. And suddenly you're just thinking about where Lindholm is rather than playing the puck. >> Yeah, exactly. He wants Lindholm on the inside shoulder to the other cut back or be able to block him out to go forward. Lindholm takes one option away and then leans on the other and then that just jams him up. He can't shoot it. He can't pass it. He can't skate. >> A couple of days ago, guys, Rick Talkett mentioned that, you know, Elias Lindholm, whatever happened in the past in terms of the injury and all of that, this is why they got him. This time is why they got him. That's a boost of confidence from a coach, a player to say, don't worry about the past. Right now is what we need you for. And I think he responded perfectly tonight because it's like a clean slate to say, all right, coach, this is why you got me. I'm going to show everybody that I'm good to go and he was brilliant tonight. >> He was. And that's, you know, like Big mentioned, you know, that's one of the reasons why they want to acquire him. Now the hope had been that Lindholm would play maybe with Patterson, but the depth you have and the ability you have to control games when you have those three center men going, especially the way he's playing, the way he played tonight. And I thought the Patterson line had some moments, you know, they kind of mixed it around a little bit. You saw Lafferty there a bit. You saw Mikayev there a little bit. >> Yeah, a lot of line. >> You saw a lot of line get back together a bit. I thought, Patterson, obviously not his best game. I thought when he played with a lot of line, he had a couple of chances. It seemed like holding that. He was a little bit nervous tonight. But all in all, considering, you know, this was like almost 10 Canucks players were playing their first real playoff game tonight. And by that, I mean actually having fans in the building, not playing the bubble playoff. And with all that, those things considered, I thought them coming away with victory coming back and winning it, especially of some uneasy moments early, it's got to be big for these guys here tonight. >> For sure. Like a learning experience as well on the fly, because through 40 minutes, Brett, you know, get your thoughts on this as well, where it feels like it's a bit touch and go at times, you know, even though your five on five game in the second period is good, you're behind and you haven't given up much of anything, but you haven't been able to create. And that's kind of a, all right, we're learning as we go. But in the third period, you walk away from that experience understanding that, okay, that was a first experience for a lot of these guys, but you get that victory in that fashion. It's got to boost the confidence big time for the veterans for sure. They've been there, but for the young guys as well. >> Yeah, it's huge. And I think it's kind of chaotic first period, right? There's a lot of energy. You get to take a breath in between periods, settle down second period. Just like you said, I think you play a better period. You run into a little penalty trouble, but you're coming out of there saying, or down, like what else can we do? They seem to get opportunities out of nothing, especially that O'Reilly line. And then I'm gassing the coaches coming in and say, stick with it, stick with the plan all year. They've just systematic, let's stick with what we do best for 60 minutes. And they did, and then they're able to take advantage of that energy with two back-to-back goals there. >> Well, we were talking in the first intermission that it felt like their pocket management was so sharp, you want to settle the nerves. It was really just the penalties because by and large, and we'll talk about the six defenders, I thought every one of the demand did something, and their baseline in this game was so high. And they hardly put a foot wrong throughout the course of this game, and it's a door-off carrying the puck, as you mentioned, in the second intermission. Cole was immense on the PK, shutting down denials, Quinn Hughes gets a goal and did so many Quinn Hughes things. Every D-man did something tonight, and to me, you went about settling the nerves. Those are the moments when we talk about, hey, you're enveloped in your own end, you can't get out, and it's so difficult. Who do you need to settle the game down at your D-man? And they did phenomenal tonight. >> Roman Yossi has that superpower when he comes down the right-hand side that he can escape by anybody, but Carson Seussi a couple of times tonight, long stick gets that going and basically shuts it down. You're not going to win that every single time, but the fact that this guy can match his stride for stride and have that active stick, guys. Everything you said, Bick, but I thought that moment late in the game, it was about the third period, maybe halfway through, and when Yossi's flying down there, that generally is either he's going to go behind the net, or he's going to slam the brakes during final lane, maybe a passing lane to one of his teammates. Carson Seussi didn't allow any of that, and that's just a heck of a defensive unit tonight. They're going to need more of that, but it was a great start. >> To that point, the only connect defenseman who played over 20 minutes night was Queen Hughes at 22-20. Everybody else was at 19 minutes or around 19 minutes in change, including Phillip Hironic tonight, so they really ran all 60 men. I thought Ian Cole, he had some struggles late in the season. Of course, we talked about that as well. Brad, you mentioned that you saw his game turning around, but tonight it was an absolute B spread. He had a defensive knee in his own zone, taking the body, winning puck battles. That's what that veteran defensive presence, what you've been waiting for, he really showcased it here tonight. >> Yeah, the fundamentals of just closing gaps, good sticks, physical, not being caught out of position, and just sheer battle, he brought all of it. He just led those D-men, you know, in the fundamentals there. >> And like his ears were burning, we're talking about how good Ian Cole was tonight. Let's go outside the Canucks locker room where he's joining us right now. Ian, thanks for joining us here. First of all, a great job winning this game here, 4-2 over the prets. What was it like playing in front of these fans and the building popping off the way it did tonight? >> Yeah, it was absolutely incredible. Listen, we knew it was going to be an unbelievable atmosphere. I mean, I can't understate how awesome the fans were here. And you know, guys were saying like, man, I had goosebumps, almost had tears in my eyes to start the game. So rock is so intense, so loud, and you could feel the passion. So, you know, it's really something that we want to come out and have a good showing. And I thought we obviously finished it well. >> We were just talking about your battle level throughout the game. And one out of 82, it's a grind, but when you get into the playoffs, like how much do you love engaging in those battles because you walked away from most of those by winning them? >> Yeah, listen, it's, you know, the regular season's great, it's important. You got to do well, you got to get to the playoffs, you want to get as good of a seat as you can. You know, all that, all those disclaimers. But this is the real season. This is when stuff is really fun. This is when it's at its most intensive, when you're at your most desperate, when every win you have matters so much more and every loss you have is absolutely devastating. And that's the kind of emotional swings you want. If you can kind of ride through those and just keep going, you know, we can be in for a good ride here. >> The emotional swings are one thing. We were just discussing before you came on, the level of composure by the six defenders tonight. Anytime there was a moment, felt like the puck was moved out. Anytime there was a battle, you guys won the key ones and just, you've, we spent so much time talking about your influence here of just kind of mentoring some of these guys that are going through this. What would you say about the other five guys tonight as well on the back end? >> Yeah, I can't say enough. I think we are the best decor in the league. I think we are extremely confident in what we can do both defensively and offensively. And I think it's something that we take a lot of pride in. And, you know, I think that we are built to be able to sustain, you know, all the pressure that's going to come with the playoffs and thrive under that. So, really exciting time of the year, like I said, and, you know, I don't think that this moment is too big for our guys. >> Well, and in terms of like your own performance here tonight, like, I thought the play you made on the first go on Lindholm, you take the body, allows the door off to get the puck, goes up the wall, Joshua makes a good play. It's the details like that that go a long way, don't they? >> Yeah, you know, it's, you know, all the highlight real plays get a lot of attention as they should. They're awesome. But a lot of the game and a lot of the things that swing games in your favor are understated. And if you can do all those things and keep the puck moving and keep the puck out of your end, yeah, keep the puck from being in your end for an extended amount of time, and you can kind of turn that tight by doing the little things and winning battles. You put your team in a really good spot to be successful. It's the next line coming out that gets to benefit from that, right? And, you know, that's something that I and I know we as our D-court take a lot of pride in. >> Quinn got that 2-2 goal, but 12 seconds later to Koda and that line go to work. >> You've been, I'm sure, on both sides of that, like that line is so difficult to play games. How is it to have them on your side? Because it's just a heavy line, a relentless line that really got you guys that game late. >> Yeah, listen, I mean, those guys have been unbelievable for us all season long. And you look at that goal, right? We just score. We have a little momentum. We get the puck in deep. We pressure that D-man. And listen, it's uncomfortable going back for pucks when you got a guy right on your ass. Sorry, I can't say that. >> No, it's okay. You're fine, you're fine, you're fine. >> Those 10 o'clock are fine. >> All the kids are in bed. Thank goodness. >> Good next afternoon. >> Exactly. But it's really uncomfortable going back and you still need to be able to make plays. You still need to be able to take that contact. You still got to be able to leave the puck. If you can't make a play, you got to leave in your feet. You can't let it squirt out. Go right to the opposing team, right out front goal, right? And that's what happened on that. And as a four-checking team, that's what we want to do. That's what they want to do, too. It's just a matter who can withstand that pressure and that physicality for longer. >> There was a handful of penalties. They get the one on the power play early, but then the rest of the way, it did feel like the penalty kill really stifled them. Can you talk about any adjustments that were made on the following three penalties? >> Yeah. No adjustments. >> Listen to how the shot went in. You know, I think that the best thing you can do is, you know, if they beat us doing a certain thing, you know, by all means, but it's a flank shot. There are going to be flank shots on a PK, right? You're outnumbered by a four, so someone's going to get a shot at some point. You can't take everything away. But I think overall, the PK did a fantastic job, especially getting those kills in the, you know, later on that period, and I think one, one in the third, two in the third, one in the third. >> One in the third. Yeah. >> One in the third, yeah. So listen, we're able to bounce back and hold the fort there and let our guys recover and score some goals. So that's, they did their job, for sure. >> Hey, Ian, great stuff tonight. I always appreciate your time. Best of luck on Tuesday, keep it going. >> Yep. Thanks, Wells. We'll see you in two days. >> Two days, you got it. >> All right. >> Ian Cole tonight, after a thrilling four, two come from behind victory for your Vancouver Canucks. And a few great, I mean, he's always a great guy to chat with. You're listening to the post-game show, it's Satya Arshah, Bickness, our Brett Pestling, and we have Randeeb Jan, a part of the conversation here, and we are going to get to the thoughts of the head coach and connect players as the show goes on. But he mentioned the connects of the best defense in the league he feels like. And tonight, well, they kind of played like it with how stout they were in their own end. >> Yeah, they didn't really give up much of anything five on five. I know there's a couple of chances in the first period, guys, but outside of that second period on, they didn't give up anything, but it was, you know, plugging up those shooting lanes, those passing lanes, and the battle level, right? Even when it was kind of a bit of a shootout in terms of, you know, there's a lot of energy in the first period, you're going after the hits. But the battle level throughout this game, outside of maybe after Nashville scored that first goal, you could see maybe the Canucks back off a little bit, and Nashville's really bringing it, maybe second to Pucks there for about a five minute period. But outside of that, it was all just engaging in those battles, winning those battles. And Ian Cole was great. I thought Zadorov had an excellent shift in the second period where he was everywhere. He, you know, extended possession in the offensive zone, and that really gave this team some swagger because they were in search of something at that point in the game. So not only Ian Cole, not only Zadorov, all of them were good, but a couple of shifts really stand out to say, you know, key moments in that game where if you don't have those guys winning those battles or extending, you know, this is a quick team that can go back real quick and score on you. Yeah, real quick, and Zadorov and that Miller line in that second second shift, they completely changed momentum. That's the five minutes where Nashville kind of gets it, and actually Myers has a good breakout. He skates it up. He kind of stomps out. So a little momentum there too. So not only the battle effort, but the composure to make plays and skate and get, take that open ice when it's when it's presented to them. We haven't really talked about JT Miller a lot tonight yet. Absolute horse. I mean, the first two periods, the best Canucks shifts to the first 40 minutes came off the Miller line. He has to stay in pressure. He's winning puck battles. He's bodying guys along the wall, making Chris passes for checking and winning battles. He was fully engaged all evening tonight, guys. Oh, big time. Right. This is a guy that especially early on, one of those hits, you know, just being physically engaged going after I love when he goes after the big dogs on the other team because it's essentially saying, I'm not backing down. I don't care who you are, whether you're, you know, you know, six foot six Michael McCarran, whether you're Phillip Forsberg, whether you're Lionel Riley, it doesn't matter that really exudes confidence for the rest of the team. And through 40 minutes, he didn't have any shots on goal, but he was impacting the game in other ways. And that goes a long way and eventually in the third period, things start to open up as well. But the confidence from his game, that's what a leader is, guys. Well, he was willing to take people on too. Like routinely, he did the drag outside, lower the shoulder, trying to put your pass. Hey, it didn't always come off, but he's there on the retrieval as well below the goal line, creating something. Brett and I were laughing like the empty net goal. You look at that pass across to Teddy Blueger, he gets it off the wall. And it is whipped perfectly right to Blueger out to Joshua. There's the goal. And routinely this evening, either in the neutral zone, it passes the door off. There was some zip and some confidence on some passes from JT Miller. Yeah, spin around. No look with confident like one game. Yeah. One goal game. First game in the playoffs in a decade. Most guys are going trying to go high up the glass. It's rolling off your blade and then you're just grinding that out again. He said he makes a great a pass and that leads to the empty net and puts the game away. Gentlemen, great stuff has always ran deep. Fantastic call alongside Brendan Bachelorette and great game. Good Canucks come from behind victory and we'll see what they have in store for us on Tuesday when they play the Preds again for game two. This is fun. A lot of focus coming in on the defense. James and Qualican Beach. How about Myers tonight? That guy was scary this evening. He was heavy, sterling and Calgary, all of a sudden a bigger prize for Big Z is making more sense. He was absolutely clutch and showed he can play great and be at his best in the biggest games, Sterling and Calgary. You can really spread the love. We spoke about Cole obviously, but Zodorov and Myers, two guys who, we talk about there are some variants in their game from time to time. Like tonight was one of those like nine out of ten Zodorov games and Myers was like a nine out of ten. We know it can be on the lower end, but you see what they can do when they're at the top. Yeah Dakota Joshua Brett tonight an absolute force of nature and that's one of the things you wanted to watch him kind of be can he be that same presence as he's been in the regular season he came through in spades tonight especially in the third. Yeah I think he elevated he was physical he showed those soft hands by pulling it in tight and getting it up and he was just a nuisance you saw Nashville really paying attention to him in front of the net getting into scrums he was he was one of the better players tonight 100% ends up playing 17 48 obviously the three points and a plus three six hits tonight and two shots on goal both resulting in goals he's got a good PDO right now said oh yeah the PDO the PDO looks pretty good Marcus and Gibson says no passengers at all tonight ain't that the truth or we'll get to more of your thoughts and before we get to the head coach let's try to squeeze a phone call in 604 280 0650 or toll free one triple eight two seven five zero six fifteen the start in Delta where we have a Lucas on the line Lucas what are your thoughts on the Canucks taking game one hey guys I was at the game tonight section 324 wow what a vibe that arena was going off the chain I couldn't I couldn't even handle myself there I think I only saw one president every single person within that stadium was wearing a Canucks jersey I haven't seen the vibe like that for some time I went to the playoffs in 2011 this is something different guys I love it what do you guys thought third line beef mode that means potatoes Joshua love it thanks guys hey great stuff Lucas thanks the phone call and hey if you're fortunate enough to be in the building tonight absolutely electric I know watching on TV probably was fantastic as well with being here it was the loudest I've heard this building in over a decade it was unreal how loud it was especially in the third yeah the scramble for our first intermission of just trying to figure out how to talk over everybody and the it was was incredible right I wasn't sure if it was my headphones or how loud it was yes it was unbelievable it was just vibrating everybody was flying like the the intro music coming in it just set a tone it was it was an incredible vibe in here for sure and it really it really just elevated the whole experience for everybody hey the crowd was challenged by the head coach he loud and they were loud man they challenged excepted in a big big way for a minute one we just heard from Ian Cole as well and yeah it didn't take long for for the vibe and I hope a lot of memories to be active here for people like oh right this is how it's supposed to sound in here this is what it can be here and you can clearly see it resonated for the players as well yeah we'll play some audio from Canucks players who you heard Ian Cole talk about in the warm-ups guys had tears in their eyes or they had goosebumps just so jacked up about the noise this is what a Canadian market's about right Brett I mean hey regular season there's obviously a level but in the playoffs the level of passion enthusiasm how loud rings get in Canada it's second to none we got to experience that here tonight in Vancouver yeah exactly as much as you hear especially in when things don't go right for for a few years of the pressures of playing in the Canadian market when you have success and playoffs you're a god you like how many times in your life can you go out in front of 18,000 people that are screaming that loud and just completely adding a new experience to your life you know it's something you're never gonna forget the feeling all of it even me like I don't know if bit could see me when they're coming out a thing like my my lab right I got a covid and play out so story tell us the story no yeah relive one of the worst no just kidding no but that's covid we were actually practicing for I was playing in Germany and then we were we had pre-game skate it was first game of the playoffs that night we actually had a really good team that year and then they just came in German government shutting down shutting down the league there's gonna be no free game skate we came out and then they're waiting for us and we knew it so that was it and then it was like you gotta you have two days to be out of the country and then that was that was the start of covid and the end of my crib but there was a special feeling there right it built up and then hearing that intro just brings you back and the hairs on your neck stand up and and you just it's emotion right it's emotion that's peak so it's cool it's a minor set to me you'll never skate as fast you do is your first playoff game oh yeah warm up coming out for a warming especially if the mesh is tight meshes a little loose here but the pucks fly out so it makes you feel like you're shooting it y'all you're flying well I mean and you know tonight too the amount of energy the guys had throughout and I you know obviously people are talking about Elias Patterson as well talking about how he was a guy they want to see more of but overall defensively each line like none of those lines get hemmed in tonight there's a couple chances obviously that they had but in terms of playing the team game making safe plays getting pucks out of their own zone pressuring back checking well I don't know you know I know Jay and Poco and others that usually go after Patterson they're frustrated with him two people asking the question but in terms of not having passengers sure offensively you want to see more from him but I thought his line was good defensively as well tonight like overall none of these lines created problems for themselves I thought the biggest issue that line had was connecting play in the offensive zone a bit too often they held on to the puck too long I thought hoglander was holding on to pucks a bit too long not making plays not getting the cycle going and hopefully that's something they rectify a little bit here in the next game yeah I thought defensively Patterson was strong there there was a couple of moments where he neutralizes a net front pass near the end of the first period when the lot of line got reunited there is a pass looking for a trailer Patterson's there to pick it off and get the puck out of the zone and just routinely um doing his job defensively now I know there's demands and wants for the the goals yeah I thought he had a couple of nice shots now they they missed but is he creating his own opportunity I thought he did yeah he made a couple nice plays you're right I thought his defensive game in terms of cutting down especially when he was did get out against a wireless line with those three guys get pretty tight and they're pretty dangerous in terms of feeding so he was good in there hoglander I think he was just the anticipation he could tell he was a little antsy and maybe he was trying to do a little too much and for Lafferty getting bumped up which seemed like a kind of a last-minute decision I thought he played well he had really good energy he hits everything that moved he had a couple opportunities in the first I think the first goal against they need to work that out but that's kind of growing pains of putting the line together late I guess sorry go ahead no one thing Patterson was out he was out a lot of games rolling Yossi actually they talked about having a game plan on Yossi and hounding him up and down in the ice I thought Patterson noticed him out there a few times at Yossi that was the one of the guys he was matched up against kind of and they wanted to make sure they had certain match-ups and not let Yossi really run rough shot and outside of hitting that post off the play where he was give the give the puck well Riley steals the puck from Yossi makes a great play throws it up the advantage at least the puts in the middle of the ice and Ryossi rang the shot off the crossbar that was in the second period that's the best chance I thought Yossi had and I thought overall they did a good job of keeping him from being a big factor offensively for the team what I was going to say about the Lafferty thing so there's two elements that kind of I wondered about during the game won the face-offs because there was a couple times Patterson got kicked out obviously on the goal but there was more through with the course of the day Lafferty wanted to take in three face-offs but they switched Patterson to the the lot of line like situationally after penalties the lot of line went together end of periods they went together and just duh just different moments you look at the the box court tonight Lafferty only winds up playing 858 that's not exactly first line usage so the ability to switch him out to put Patterson in loaded spots because you have the depth advantage you can throw it a linto on a line later can you get Patterson out there more Patterson only winds up playing 1839 so it's not overwhelming but I thought the situational usage was interesting to see that develop with and Lafferty just kind of squirts away it's fine yeah and you got to think with that being one of the main question marks probably going into postseason who's going to play with Petey and how can you get generate generate more offense from that that's just coaching coaches coaches getting creative I think really like we can't do this full time but we can do this situational and then we can get Lafferty in there to create some buzz hopefully feed some net front and Hogan only plays 1023 so there's an eight minute gap between Patterson's wingers and Patterson well Patterson played on the lot of line quite a bit especially late in the first late in the second and even in the third they went through the lot of line situationally which we talked about during the season will they do it more in the playoffs and they certainly did that here tonight all right keep your thoughts coming into our text in box 656 50 let's take one more phone call before we get the thoughts of the Canucks head coach Rick Talkett at the podium and let's go to Langley where we have Jake on the line Jake thanks for calling in buddy what are your thoughts after the Canucks 4-2 win over Nashville here tonight guys I was also in section 324 which was kind of funny that Luke was there to 324 post-game show that was guys I've been waiting my entire life I've been a die hard Canucks fan basically since I was a sperm man I've been I've been just a die hard fan I've never been to a playoff game and I got to say that was some of the most one of the most memorable experiences I've ever experienced in my life it was truly special I mean me and my wife were celebrating it and there's not really much I want to talk about the game just the fact that the crowd was it truly I don't know how came up on TV but in person it was truly electric it's it's hard to believe how loud it was until you were actually there and I hope this crowd moving forward this this is these fan base moving forward continues to support them I take support of them tonight because that that was a special night thanks guys hey Jake thanks to the phone call Jake and Langley calling in and I hate the fans that were here tonight to a man to a person they look to be absolutely enjoying themselves and why not I mean you haven't seen playoff hockey in nine years but real enthusiasm for a team they think actually has a chance and they came through this evening not just because playoff hockey reborn back in roger's arena but the game it's come from behind when you overcome adversity overcome penalties and all these scenarios it was just fantastic and the the predators are up there with the Canucks as far as when they score first they're really good they're the second in a league they're tied for second with 35 wins Canucks have 38 wins scoring first so the Canucks having to come from behind in this game that's a massive turning point yeah everybody in 324 had a great time tonight I mean yeah it was completely electric it's the game was great the crowd was great you can't say many you know more better things about tonight you ate you couldn't have drawn up a better night in terms of opening for the playoffs the emotion the energy and the building the fans support all of it was really nice yeah absolutely and I wanted to spend a moment on the pk there guys because they obviously gave up that goal and you know what like the first pk the first minute they did a great job of killing the first minute off it was Dakota Joshua getting a clear Joshua Lindholm were demons on that shift I mean they stripped the puck in the offensive zone to keep the puck deep but finally when Nashville gets set up it's a minute into the power play and it's one or two plays next thing you know it goes to Riley and and on on all of Angelisa kind of got the stick on Demko's glove it looked like the puck had gone just looked like Demko kind of missed that shot good shot by Ryan O'Reilly but that was really the only sequence that they looked like they were going to be dangerous and after that the Canucks did a fantastic job in and neutralizing that power play outside of it was Nyquist with an incredible clear knocking a heart shot out of the air to keep it in outside of Nashville making a couple great clears on their second power play I thought the Canucks pk really stepped up to not let Nashville take over yeah they did a good job they think they got better in the third and fourth pk for for clear as we talked about that in between periods just there's a couple clears you really want to get down because that you end up getting caught for a minute but other than that you're right they just didn't they didn't let them set up they tried to do this weird kind of low you saw a couple weird angle shots off low I don't know what they're seeing there maybe they're thinking Demko is not going to play it tight but all in all question on the goal line right yeah on the goal line you saw him come in a couple times and shoot it from the bottom of the circle by himself which seems like a wasted opportunity so but they seem to do it a couple times I don't know if they're what they're seeing there but other than that it was pretty solid for that I would expect though now we watch how does how do the predators react now right they're going to change something up try to generate a little more officer shall we get into the goal games on on that whole sequence go ahead yeah let's just touch on that because the puck goes up top and it's it's not yosie who handles it first though there's a player with his back to the slot and PDG activates yosie's got his face facing towards the plate he gets the puck and it sets off this whole sequence where PDG activates and Susie's got to go to the wall to Forsberg who makes this unbelievable pass but uh just just from a demands mindset if you're a Carson Susie what are you looking at and what's the reason he goes to Philip Forsberg so as soon as one guy goes all go you can't have one guy go and then nobody go because there's just one guy getting tired right and they just double team like so soon as one guy goes that's the trigger for everybody to get aggressive and go the problem is is PDG has chased him out to the blue line and then this is what national does 5 on 5 even really well those three guys get together so tight and they they do like a three man kind of triangle plays so that drags Susie out beyond the top of the circles to try to force that they make a nice play into the middle which now goes to the to O'Reilly on the half wall and it's a two on one at the net so Myers is having to take away the back door pass that opens up that far lane four shot for O'Reilly obviously he's got a great shot he shoots it from there so much he loves it there but because Myers isn't allowed or can't cut off that lane for the shot which is what they're kind of taught to do from talk it that's where that shot comes from O'Reilly obviously takes advantage of it but Myers is trying to take away that back door pass that's what opens it up but the hope on this play is Susie cuts off that past night quest basically yeah well as Susie's jumping out as soon as the puck he's hoping to get that puck exactly the same time it's arriving there and then it just becomes a scramble in a battle a wall ball out there but you know give predators credit they make a really nice passing play to open up that opportunity all right we'll get to more of our thoughts but let's get to the Canucks head coach Rick Talkett at the podium getting to the game just start with a thought on the atmosphere in the building tonight yeah it was incredible I was told about it it was pretty impressive um how loud that the fans were even when it was we're down two to one they were they didn't they didn't waiver it was really good to see Quinn now was in here moments ago called your performance and mature one in terms of sticking with it being behind early you go behind again in the second but finding a way in the third is that how you saw it as well yeah I think killing those three penalties you know um was big they got the one you know and um I think those three killing those off you know they score there it's too late so I think that was big a key moment with the penalty killing when you are as physical as you are does that put an even bigger premium on the penalty killing because you're gonna have to kill some at some point it seemed like you guys were doing everything you could to be physical tonight yeah I mean they're unfortunate penalties I don't think we're in discipline it was a well-ref game I just think things happen sometimes um you know we're gonna be physical you know you know you know you don't want to take penalties but you still got to play physical so we just got to make you know got to make sure I want to ask you about Lynn home I mean you you matched him up against the O'Reilly line a big opening goal to get you guys going and then really nice play behind the net to get the puck to Garland and the Joshua goal just how important is the game like that for him because maybe it wasn't going offensively that way he wanted earlier in the year well I mean let's face it that's why we we picked we acquired him for tonight I mean you know he was banged up hurt and stuff but this is uh and you know when he didn't play there um he skated and stuff like that which helped but I think these are the games why you acquired Lynn home he was a he was really good 200 foot game really good JT spends a lot of time in that game against the McCarron line like their fourth line you sort of chose that after they started the game with McCarron but it was continuous throughout the game was that your call something you worked for no not really it was just um you know it was more like I think Milsey deserved to start and so they were starting at the McCarron line every period so that that's probably some of it it just happened that way um I just think that it wasn't I wasn't matching it just I don't know why it just happened that way and I'm not going to pull Mosey off I thought as a game went on I think Milsey willed the team I thought he played really well the two one goal that they score um looked like it was a pretty close call between uh with evangelies to stick and and when the puck maybe went by um did you have like a still like how confident were you when you decided not to challenge well I believe in the the video uh Dylan Crawford at the Clark he was up there he and Clark who uh you know obviously he's a great goalie I I relied on them I I saw it maybe saw it too cool glance not it and I did swear again are you F and share that was and I don't like doing that to the guys because it's a pressure it's on them but it's on me like you know it's um and I and you know I go regardless of the fact I believe what what they say so it wasn't really it's a moot point at that point if we make the wrong decision way we know it's not their fault because uh it's a pressure situation right there Rick uh JT was asked about Dakota tonight and he said I'm not sure he knows how good he is I was wondering when you became a believer in his potential and also what you know have you found is the best method to get that out of Dakota well last year I believed in him like I said he's a like I've really you know the local guys I thought he could score 20 goals and he probably should have if he didn't get hurt um he just Dakota just doesn't know how good he can be um he knew he knew there was another level there we just had to whether push him or find it um and I gave him all the credit in the world because he uh you know I think he knows now what it's going to take you know he needs a I thought the summer um he learned from it and I think the him and Garland together have really kind of added this uh like a swagger to our team as that you know technically the third line the um I think that's really helped um and they both Garland and him together have really taken a role leadership wise a chunk of it and I think that's really helped Dakota's game hey Ricky they say you never critique a win and you said this morning that you had a really good feel about your club thought it would play better as the series went on things you don't like you don't like shots that miss the net and you don't like stick penalties where are you gonna have to be even better tonight well you're right I think I think there was some after we you know we got hit the net I think uh sometimes we're a little too fine on the shots so I think that's something we get better at you know we're aggressive tonight some of those penalties I don't know if we can clean up but I you know with a couple we're unfortunate um you know there's some there's there's parts around I thought our fortune got better um the second half I didn't like it early on I think I think Nashville did a hell of a job of get breaking the puck on us we were late and then we adjusted after the second and I think the Garland goal was a testament of the the guys listening after the second period yeah Rick all season long you talked about winning one-on-one battles the staples etc um you look at the performance tonight how would you assess your team say in the one-on-one battle of the perfect no it was good I mean I think there's another level I think our edge battles off the draws is that's the one thing we got to prove I didn't like our edge battles should say I didn't like them I think that has to be improved on I think a lot of um I'm not saying Nashville had a lot of chances it was a you know both it was a back-and-forth game but pretty low event in some respect but I thought of some of the chances they got were off their draws so we got to that's one thing we got to work on JT was talking about winning those one-on-one battles the offensive zone I mean you got a 30 second possession sometimes if you can win that one-on-one battle how paramount is it to your team's success to be successful in those one-on-ones yeah and it's just not two or three guys it's a it's a team effort um and it's uncomfortable you know I'm a I'm a big body position first then the puck and I think sometimes we're going for the puck early on and it um I think that's what we're improved on but I thought we got better at it which is good it on the first goal the zucker goal up the wing was off a face-off was that a similar situation because I repeat he got tossed Lafferty takes the draw and it looked like the two of them kind of got crossed up on where to go is that what happened well Lafferty's a settlement so that's laugh he's you know he went out that's a right winger he's going to be the settlement he stays there yeah I'm not saying it you know would have prevented a goal maybe but yeah Laff's got a he's got to play center and not wing and then on the the Hughes goal I mean that's exactly what you're talking about you get in there I mean that the Miller line was dominant on the forecheck all night or the the third goal the goal yeah sure I mean was that just because everything you wanted to see from your team in one sequence yeah um we made the push the crowd was in it um it was a tip goal I think right I think somebody I don't or whether Huggy got I'm not sure we got it but if you if you yeah sooner get it yeah I think it was a we had layers there I think we had some traffic and then you know we tipped you know we're a pretty good tip team I think we're one of the better teams at that that that's one of our you know one of our bread and butter soup get into those levels Rick you know how important confidence could be for a player um when Lindholm has a game like he has tonight a guy who maybe was pressing a little bit how can he build on that going forward you know can he kind of use this as a foundation for a deep run successful for him excuse me I think he's played 800 games um you know he was hurt there things you know whatever then goes away I didn't see panic in this game I just love his demeanor it's like hey I'm ready to go like um whether you can build on it I just think he he knows how to play these type of games so I was never worried about him um wasn't worried about his play or are we going to be we knew that's why you know whether he goes against O'Reilly a lot or you know if he's own face offs he's you know he's good at that stuff right he knows what he's doing so I was never concerned about his play I always knew he's a you know guy that's played a lot of games and knows what to do about their in pressure situations. Rick we've talked about how the emotions are higher here in the playoffs obviously when you get those back-to-back goals in 12 seconds I'm curious how different of a feeling is it from a regular season taking a lead like what is the feeling on the bench there when you get those back-to-back goals. Well it's huge because I think obviously we scored that cycle the tie and it looked like everybody breathed a little bit even the fans like okay we're at that goal but I got to cred that next shift you know we didn't rest on it you know we got the puck in deep and obviously got the got the goal there so that's the sort of stuff you you know play off hockey you build on momentum you get the crowd going you know you you try to you try to build on momentum you know that get that shot first shot on net right after a goal I like that they're getting the puck at even sometimes you're resting I didn't see us rest tonight and just that's a demo a couple of massive saves early on that pad save and then later in his wall what do you think about just his ability to kind of create that feeling and emotion again in the building. Well it's you know you know what I mean you're you're you're in half I've seen it many times you know where he's just made that spectacular save to keep us in you know it's a two goal swing you know when it when when a goal you know you're down one up and the guy makes a save that you know it's a two goal swing that he just made for you it's you more. Rick the jt said earlier that um basically the first period was so physical that it didn't even matter if there was a puck on the ice that there was so much bagging and crashing going on um how does that play to the strengths of this team and now that you've sort of seen one game of this matchup do you think that it's a matchup that's going to bring the best out of your group. Well I like the physicality but we can't run out of position to make hits that that's really what comes down to you know you got to you got to use the fans you know use the emotion to your you know to your advantage but you can't run out of position I think sometimes when you run out of position that's when you'll see they have to fix that they had a couple of chances where they hit the back side because I think we over pursue so I think as hopefully as a playoffs go on you find that balance but I you know I'm never going to take the aggressiveness or the passion of the guys just you have to make sure that you just don't run around too much you know the guys talk a lot about being patient and how their maturity showed by being able to turn the game over in the third period it felt like things that we were talking about going all the way back to to training camp even stick tootiveness and we in our habits and preparedness have to be better is is all that work you've put in through the season did it show up in that third period yeah I think it would be successful there's going to be times where you got to be comfortable playing a one-nothing you down one nothing or you down you might down to nothing and there's 30 minutes left in the game maybe in the past you know you might dive in or guys get frustrated you know they try to push the pace too much I think we've learned especially the last 15-20 games just to hang in there it's okay and I think that was a temper with that I hopefully it's another learning lesson that hey it's a good thing and there might be a chance we might be done tonight and we might not go our way it's okay like I think we just got to keep the patient a lot of the grille if you watch a lot of the good teams like Tampa over the years they're okay being down to one with 10 minutes left they don't they just stick with it and I think you can learn from the teams like that they resolve thank you that is Canucks head coach Rick Talkett at the podium brought to you by tile town for vision the reality tile town has everything you need for your tiling project see them today in Victoria Richmond Langley and online at my tile town dot c-a it's out to your shot with bickness arm Brett Festling and Brett before we let you go here great stuff on the coverage tonight can we to have you back on again on Tuesday but wanted to throw a couple of things by you that the head coach mentioned specifically he said and didn't like how we played on the edges tonight he talked about the face-off plays and one thing you you illuminated to us off that first goal that zucker scored off the face off it was Lafferty taking the face off because Patterson was thrown out and Hoaglander and Lafferty got caught up at the point nobody takes zucker he shoots the puck goes off Patterson sticking and goes in coaches doesn't love the guys on the edges needs to be better on the face-offs but he also said what you mentioned that's Lafferty on the mix up on that play yeah when you switch Lafferty becomes the center so you need to play that as a center it's too especially like set plays like you saw they you know predators do it just happens too quick so you can't do a switch in the middle of it and the d-man are going to take the guys that come to the net you got to play your center and then you kind of the center checks off into the far far far d-man and then the wingers will take the guy spreading out so he just yeah he's got to communicate there P.D. knows that he's a winger you can see P.D. actually flex out to the right side when the d-man goes and then he realizes that Lafferty screwed up when he's going and that's why P.D. comes in he ends up giving it so when he says the edges he's talking wingers it's winger battles it's those 50-50 pucks coach will call it where the centerman ties up or he'll win it squirt it two feet there and you just you got to win those back to your d-man or you got to win that battle to at least have a neutral puck a lot of praise from rick talking as well towards the code of Joshua and mentioning he thought he could score 20 goals and doesn't realize how good he can be he said it by Joshua this guy just big price ticket compliment see right yeah like that there's still more to come and more potential growth for Dakota Joshua yeah I mean look at how he played tonight and is this his first playoff experience do you get any with Toronto yeah he got one yeah he got one right yeah okay well he's he stepped up to the occasion he played phenomenal so he's incredible he's a huge part of this team think about him getting healthy scratched for you know not being in good shape yeah yeah just starting now these he's a huge piece in this playoff team and a huge part of the the first win so and then I liked his Lindom his Lindom stuff too this is why we acquired him was his quote yeah exactly I have he's good at that stuff knows what to do in pressure situations yeah well really quickly here on the face offs uh Lindom 60 percent tonight nine nine wins yeah and he looked good against he was out there against a Riley quite a bit you look at that forecheck so on the D side he was great tonight and then on the forecheck he helped create that momentum which felt like the roof was literally gonna pop off felt like the whole building was getting squeezed it was amazing yeah absolute bedland here at Roger's Arena but Brett fantastic stuff calling the game tonight with us we look forward to chatting with you on pre-game as well or during intermissions and post-game coming up on corner out of the top of the point for Hughes long shot take this score Hughes threw it to the net and it gets past UC Soros the Canucks have tied it to two here in the third period well it's huge because I think obviously we score that cycle the tie and it looked like everybody breathed a little bit even the fans like okay you have that goal but I got to cred that next chef you know we didn't rest on it you know we got the puck in deep and obviously got the got the goal there so that's the sort of stuff you know playoff hockey you build on momentum you get the crowd going you know you try were debating the Lindoam trade and his struggles and injuries and people were saying you know you guys said Lindoam would be good what's going on and I kept maintaining you won't see his value until the playoffs that's where he's going to show his value if he can find his game in game one we'll see if he continues doing so he certainly came through with his value all right you have one more you my opposition love it john Langley calling in all right let's continue on the phone boards and let's go to lion's bay where we have dawn on the line dawn thanks for calling in what are your thoughts here tonight hey guys yeah i was at the game today i wasn't out at 324 uh unfortunately i sound like a party up there but i was down at a 107 uh ice level and uh i had a good look at um you know what exactly how the players kind of reacted before uh face-offs and stuff and they were really buttoned up and uh in particular Dakota Joshua and Jay Team Miller they were really running plays um pre pre face-offs and and and they were executing but what i want to say is the pk tonight was huge and in particular uh a little play that didn't get noticed but i noticed was Dakota Joshua he had a chance in the second period when we were down to one just to clear uh the puck uh you know from the top of the circle and he just took an extra second uh if he if he just shot the puck down it wouldn't hit yo see in the knee and it would have stumbled up and uh you know it would have kept it in the zone but he just took the extra second so they just took it through his back hand and cleared it down the ice just to really uh just to play with a lot of poise and um you know it's that kind of thing that i think it differentiated him uh from the player he was last year and uh it's the competency he's playing with i'm just super stoked to watch this guy and uh aside from his contribution offensively defensively on the pk he's a huge player so i wish we would have signed him uh in the in the regular season and not after this posting because i think he's going to be a majoring pack and really driving his stock up but uh that's it guys thanks so much hey thanks for the phone call i mean Dakota Joshua i know bick you've been on this for a while talking about hey guys like him they're hard to find the way he's finding his game there's another level he's finding if you can do that you know yes it might might get you might get a little bit of sticker shock but how do you find these players how do you replace players like him and he's certainly showing that right now yeah i i would say this in the closing weeks of the season certainly believe it now to me he's the top priority ufa of the Canucks have yeah big bluger fan lindholm you're probably gonna get priced out of but for me Dakota Joshua that to me is the number one guy uh that this organization needs to prioritize uh when it comes to bringing back some of these players he's what i would sort out no absolutely let's take one more phone call here let's go to sweden where we have blork on the line blork thanks for calling in uh what are your thoughts from sweden my friend uh well first off i apologize to my neighbor i i'm pretty sure i woke up after the second period but uh really who gives the crap uh boys are in the playoffs uh second of all um absolutely fantastic game tonight it was definitely worth waking up at uh four in the morning four uh i don't know it was really really nice to see the guys in the playoffs again i mean last we had the playoffs was covid and i was home but this is like the first time we've had the playoffs at home and i'm unfortunately not there to see it but it was nice to cheer cheer it on from here i i don't get to go to number five orange like you guys are after the game after that i'm great with you guys but um yeah it was just really good i think my um our bottom six is one great i think the only thing i want to say not to be like a negative nancy but i really hope that our fans aren't going to be so negative for when we eventually do lose the game i mean as much as i believe that we could go 16 and 0 i want to know hopefully the boys um are boys but like we're all ready for that and we could just you know keep uh keep mode of sigh yeah fantastic stuff hey uh thanks for the phone call blor calling in from Sweden good not thank you so much for calling in always appreciate the Swedes or hey you know from Vancouver go in Sweden always i have time for that uh let's continue across us we're worldwide here on the post-game show let's go to Sydney Australia where our friend Tommy's on the line Tommy always great to hear from you man how do you feel after the Canucks take game one here tonight sat mate how do i feel i feel like a kangaroo has made me veggie might toast with cheese and i'm bouncing everywhere honestly what a game mate down here it's it's monday uh down in Australia because of course we live in the future from new people in north america um but the whole morning i've been wearing my eddy lack number 31 shirt i've been living the dream that you check your twitter feed you'll see my eddy like shirt right there um i've been messaging my mate to the Canadian over here my friends who live in Vancouver we've been loving the whole thing and what i have to say is that the team performed really well really really well three thousand three hundred days since it's been playing us hockey at Rogers Arena and they're great but the reality is they're going to have to do better if we go to round two round three and on to the cup final but my god i have a seven-year-old daughter i'm about to go and pick her up from the school one of those play date and when she comes home i'm going to say shallot my darling look at this the Canucks won their first playoff game in your lifetime and i'll tell you it's very hard to break that moment yeah no question tommy always a pleasure hearing from you man and revel in it and hopefully your daughter is very happy as well what a terrific phone call always a pleasure to say you got take care you got it man that is tommy and sittany calling in let's take one more call here before we hit the break we have two minutes let's go to mike calling in from surrey what's going on mike uh we have about a minute and a half or what are your thoughts yeah we're very quick guys we're all kenneltz it's back the towels you two shorty going up two octaves and even the next being hosed again by the rest playoffs are here it's a different season love my analytics but the poise the resilience to come from behind raise your game Dakota jt it was probably one of the most special things i did part of other than the birth of my children and my wedding it's hard not to get choked up quote jt the rest four calls none were scoring chances none were obvious calls and the connects with a better team but we'll overcome it finally all the connects have to do to win this series to keep even with the special teams they have the five on five edge that means can talk it rake a couple few wrinkles to the power play and gemko showed huge showed miller showed real pd show he's in his prime his contract secure he passed to be a different maker thanks guys hey mike calling it wow mike and surrey called then fired up about the team optimistic feels good about it what a phone call for mike and surrey see people call mike the grinch yeah he is fully embracing the playoff atmosphere here tonight the heart has grown and time and size and has broken the frame inside of the x-ray wow oh i mean hey what a face turn he's he's been known as a heel here calling in but what a face turn uh from mike and surrey calling in but hey you know what makes a good point about special teams sir certainly something that you have to be more diligent about the coach mentioned that too we'll dig into that a bit more we'll get more of your text messages more of your phone calls plus we'll hear from conox players as the conox central post game show continues presented by number five orange on the home of your conox sports in the 650 and the sports net radio network hey it's jamie dot and tom estrance get your game show on the official home of the conox sports net 650 and the sports net radio network you'll see in his own end for the predators passes to center tommy know that gets it right wingers luke of angelista centered in front what a save by denko a tremendous right pad stop on the former conox infiniboviliade who was wide open to the left circle that looked like a sure goal but denko comes up big and it's still scoreless inside the first three minutes conox win four two over the national predators take game one of their first round series against the pred here at roger's arena keep your thoughts coming into our text inbox 650 650 you can grab a phone line 604 280 0650 everything is happening here tonight the conox come back to win score three goals in the third period two from dakota joshua including the game winner plus one to seal it into an empty net and we just had mike from surrey calling in and he was super optimistic and and positive about the conox and people are saying whoa mike is on board now holy what that was mike from surrey my mind is blown uh and this one says someone has impersonated mike from surrey and stolen his voice please call the x-files and cori from gp alberta is mike from surrey drunk or is he actually on board so a lot of people reacting on the vibes man hey man listen if you can't get excited about what you saw tonight that's what we're talking about after game 82 right all the takes are done they're all done now it's just vibes i know there's a caller earlier it's like oh i hope fans will get too negative if they lose a game i don't think that happens right and even rick talk had mentioned when they were down to one in this game fans didn't go away no yeah they were the atmosphere in the building was fantastic and well they're chanting defense during the pk they're chanting go conox go like any moment they can find to give part to impart some energy on the guys they did yeah and and that's what happens this time of year they're in the playoffs your thoughts at this stage are secondary because all that's gonna matter is they can you push the guys to get the next one and certainly conox fans in the building tonight certainly didn't i imagine that the vibe felt uh across everywhere where they're wherever you're watching in your house and we have people waking up their neighbors imagine chatting with your friends it's all the same vibe at home yeah certainly is uh party texan and says can you please discuss francesco's perfect tweet yes believe it or not we weren't quite sure about this the owner is tweeted but francesco aquilini conox owner did tweet from his account man so tight almost like a playoff game and you know what for those that are wondering what this even means some years back there was a regular season game where he tweeted the exact same thing and he talked about it you know being and being people you know made fun of it or whatever and now and you know you see it in in twitter discourse it's become a bit so anytime there's a tight hockey game people will tweet out man so tight almost like a playoff game and the owner gets in on the joke on twitter and that tweet is winning uh x right now with the amount of reaction is getting and and our and our listeners and conox fans are loving uh the owner playing along and sending out that tweet man so tight almost like a playoff game coria the fizzyos in the aquilini tweet just icing on the cake cake there's someone else that's also competing so there you go yeah absolutely uh jackson the plumber body snatchers are real um also text again big shout out uh scott road cellies they are they are flooding up right now in that area i imagine they're fired up after a game one win uh with conox come from behind powell and text again scott road it's heating up so a lot of love uh going out to the people uh people over at scott road right now yeah much love man conox fans really enjoying this one tonight and why shouldn't you and embrace the moment man that's fantastic jason quillam says i truly feel we contributed to team tonight especially when we were down to one feels like the crowd believed in this team that they could make a beautiful comeback love the resilience from the boys go conox go that's jason from quillam yeah the resilience factor was huge today um whether it be the pks shaking off the early goal or even just the jitters we heard the pavilier save there by the way any concerns with that dreamko um what it was going to be like coming back uh we're subsided extremely quickly uh after that save on pavilier and just an unreal job and they they they sell it into the game like the zucker goal could have taken the winner of the sales but never showed up and 47 seconds into the second period there's lindholm uh getting the conox back on equal footing yeah absolutely and uh it was just great if i'm elized lindholm great game from him and the fans all over it Brandon and poco asks sat if fire smart should help try to ignite peterson that's that's a nice one for Brandon and poco time in the bca fire smart and by the way this time of year especially with spring here and summer getting near please be careful and mindful when you're out there so we can prevent some wild fires but a good one there from Brandon and poco all right we'll get some more of your text messages and we'll hear from more from conox players Ian Macitire is going to join us coming up at 11 30 as well uh keep keep that coming up uh and we are going to get to more of your text messages but before we do that let's go back to the foam board 604 280-0650 and let's go to calgary where we have connor on the line connor thanks for calling in pal and holding on holding on to your line what do you have for us here tonight hey guys long time list there not first time call there's no rookie lab here but uh so much so much i could say guys right i mean captain quinn starting to come back glindholm kind of showing us who he really is which that would happen garland and josh on son duos and son duo do you know they do um but boys um it's hilarious i was perusing twitter x and saw my boy ep4d getting absolutely roasted like i guess he fell down five times tonight i guess there's photo evidence i don't know but um he didn't look amazing tonight um but i just want to say a quick couple of points because it's very ridiculous like the guy's playing with lass ready and hoe glander who have a combined 10 playoff games all 10 being for lass ready all almost all 10 being lost is at the least like that's not exactly prime help for our franchise center but yet a few shifts of better in jt i know that i just want to preach patience like this the fan base for years like love pd hate p love pd hate p like we just signed the guy he obviously had a bad game but as bick always points out we're winning geez you know what i mean like we're winning can we be a little bit patient like the guy's still a point per game but anyways uh i think talk's gonna talk won't let it performance like that slide anyways so we can all be as upset as he wants i know talk's gonna you know gonna be the one sitting down with him but um anyways guys this is my take sat job that's in the business baby hooray have a good night gentlemen hey thanks to the phone call thanks to the kind words connor in caligree calling in and defentastic stuff and i mean it was one of those nights of course where yes you would have liked to see more offensively from lea's peterson defensively like we mentioned you know we said there were no passengers tonight because every single player was dedicated to playing a team game doing the dirty things and yeah there are times where you know maybe a bit over exuberant and the coach mentioned that they were chasing hits sometime you have to be careful you can't put yourself out of position but overall you know the connorx were really dedicated to playing the right way for the most part and they fought for every inch of the ice good changes just the details were strong for the most part and at least peterson all those things he did well you still want to see him impose the game offensively and he looked at his most dangerous when he was playing with uh jt and bester his best chance where he made a great move to create space for himself the mrnet on star rose was a shift he was out late in the first period with jt miller and brock bester it seemed like lafferty hoeglander and peterson the off in the zone had a real hard time connecting play and that's something that you know connor was alluding to lafferty's not really a top six guy and we talked about the face off play where he got mixed up as well on the first goal of the game with zucker scores not perfect in terms of how they played offensively but i do think there's obviously another level on peterson we're all still waiting and hoping we see that here in the playoffs yeah one big thing i want to highlight here though for peterson face-offs right it's something he's obviously improved on he finished that 50 percent this year in the offensive zone right rick talkancy even mentioned this situational face-offs in the zones neutral zone care less about but how do you do in the two zones 60 percent for lee is peterson in the offensive zone 67 percent in the defensive zone he got chucked out of a couple which maybe okay that's something you gotta make sure you're there because you're clearly doing well in those spots but uh that to me is the big one up against ryan or riley tonight it goes one for two both in the offensive zone and then in the defensive zone beat tommy novak in the one attempt so he goes hundred percent there and goes 50 percent against mark jankowski so situationally peterson in the draw huge 60 and 67 percent in the offensive and defensive zones uh the offense yeah it probably needs to come a bit more and we saw situationally the lotto line get put together and and dave is wondering 650 650 i want to see more from the top six with a little tweaking we can dominate them proud of the boys and happy uh for the fans and that tweaking you know you mentioned that they they lacked composure maybe in a couple of moments it just felt they forced plays they rushed plays call it immature whatever you want it didn't really try to extract the ultimate value from the plays but i don't look at sam lafferty trying to do that too no uh hey listen i i'm not trying to be overly critical here on hoglander because he's had a terrific season he seemed like a player who has to still adjust to the pace of a playoff game and i know he was trying to do the right thing he's trying to make a playhold on to the puck whether it was behind the net where he may have over handled it instead of just making a you know just a rim throw it over to one of your teammates keep the puck moving quickly even along the boards by the blue line a few times in the neutral zone he's trying to make a one or two moves you got to get the puck out you got to get a puck north south and on your stick off your stick when you have some time and space sure you can handle the puck but especially in tight quarters unless you have body position that puck's got to get moving and that's one thing i thought they struggled with and when peterson is relying on his wings to make those quick plays and they don't make it it makes his game not and i'm not saying he can't be better but i thought they had a hard time connecting play as a trio and i thought peterson like someone called us pointed out where it was at his best when he was playing with miller investor tonight if this was a loss i think you just probably discussed the hoglander thing a little bit more but it's a win and look it's a 23 year old player in his first on the shell game you want to talk about guys that need to live in the environment peterson a little older and just higher pedigree for me hoglander yeah like there were moments but guess what you won you go into the next game i would imagine he stays in that spot can i be improved upon sure but it's also his first playoff game how does he adjust moving forward and he did a great job this season continually adjusting so look at the spot with the one game lead now uh someone who can retain that spot and see if he grows in that spot uh absolutely uh this text here says pd still played well defensively south fraser way and abby is heating up as well we're getting text messages about fraser way and abby also being very lively here tonight after the Canucks first playoff victory in front of their home fans in nine seasons and making up for a lot of lost time here fans are with uh the celebrations this evening all right keep your thoughts coming into our text inbox we'll hit more of them here as the show goes on let's continue on the phone board 604-280-0615 let's go to pit meadows where we have evan on the line evan thanks for calling in what do you have for us tonight so what's up fellas how's it going man yeah fans are giving it to uh the president minor tonight oh oh sad are we giving it to them giving it to them is an understatement buddy we were feeding them shout out to section 314 tonight i feel like we got a secondary assist on a on the two two and the three two goals obviously dakota absolutely unbelievable dakota if you're listening to this which i absolutely guarantee you are not buddy my wife single dakota i love you anything you need my man come to me um but nonetheless we are all before the game obviously where the streets have no name was all the question right but let me tell you what set the streets have a name tonight my boy the streets have a name tonight and it is Tyler Myers Nikita's the door off boulevard my man those two guys on that back end tonight was something out of a story book my man it was something special i'm pretty sure Tommy Novak can order the door off jersey tonight when he's in bed thinking about that guy because he does not know what hit him tonight i've never seen anything like it i've never obviously is canuk sense we have been uh we've been i'd say we've been shorted of great defensemen in our time uh we're blessed with that boy coin he was on the back end but if you look at these if the door up and Myers if those two guys are going to play like that every night we might just go 16 and oh this postseason then there two beasts Myers is moving the puck i need a girl who's going to do for me what rick talk it did for Tyler Myers because i'm looking at him and i'm seeing something i've never seen in my life out of him i thought i thought we were done i looked at this guy i looked at all of recommend larson and i was wondering what we were going to do i was truly wondering what we were going to do and now i look at him and i feel confident that he's on the ice and boys i i can't believe what i just witnessed tonight man this was the greatest night of my life if i ever get married that's going to take the passenger seat for the greatest nights of my life to tonight to April 21st 2024 because i've never felt like this before go Canucks go shout out to the hockey shop source for sports the greatest hockey shop on earth back to your shot i love your buddy go Canucks go you see hey thanks for the phone call it's a good run that that's a good run man he uh he got a lot out and you know what i love the enthusiasm you know people give me shout outs there's sections as well section 324 i ball raj sent me a tweet to saying i was also in 324 it was jumping tonight uh 314 also getting a lot of love i mean Canucks fans honestly a lot of competing you know we talk 24 got the lead right now you know how the Canucks had the uh seventh man jersey in the arena tonight the crowd really was a seventh man in terms of no two cars tonight yeah absolutely all right let's take one more phone call and we're going to get to some player audio here on the post game show uh and let's go to uh Josiah in Sydney Australia calling in Josiah thanks for calling uh oh he we lost Josiah so let's uh so let's go to scott and cooculum what do you have for us here tonight hey guys it's been a long time Canucks fan ever since they came into the league suffered through all the crap and everything else i believe this has got the best chance ever we're going all the way 16 straight wins hey i love it thanks to the phone call that's scott and cooculum calling and that's two phone call they're saying the Canucks uh are going 16 and no markson gibson is giving a lot of love uh to uh evan who called in saying great call preach and people also talk texting and saying yes sir yes sir those two were incredible tonight so happy to have zadora and miers was great and i wanted to read a text here from garen who texted in a bit earlier i think you can try to get us to a text in a couple times uh but he mentioned we have to give a lot of love here to zadora and to miers and he says i love lindholm's play tonight one game went and go by joshua it was lindholm and then he goes on to say about all the Canucks big d-men specifically zadora of miers and josh are worth thorne and a predator side they played like monsters tonight i love it preds probably stressed having to deal with these three giants for the rest of the series two defensemen and one forward and you got to give zadora of miers their credit we talked a little bit about it with bret festerling those two guys were honored tonight yeah uh all all six demen i i can find a moment for every single guy tonight um and zadora like even from early in the game he had a carry out of his own zone where he's going straight up and just slip around the second four checker and myself and bret just like oh yeah he's he's feeling confident tonight and so of course the game he he had the freedom to go roam and make some plays and you know sometimes you can get a bit adventurous but he made the right reads and doing it there was a moment he's on the left it was it was the the play that we talked about where miller zipped to pass to him in the neutral zone shortly after the lint home goal so he enters the zone takes his great pass from miller that was hard crisp and he gets a long shot off he's coming in from the right or so from from from the lefty and as that shift continues he ends up on the right wing on the right boards and he's just roaming around but it's the right play put the pressure on the player kept that play down low and just constantly you know he made a lot of good moves and then yeah what at the end there blowing up cool smith on the off side yeah right like it's a big boy and the kid is the door of uh didn't shake at all and Tyler Myers had so many good plays so of course the evening uh we talked about the goal against uh the power play goal that's not on Tyler Myers he's doing the right thing he's holding on the back post taking away that pass and he's not able to threaten because he's got to be tight to the middle but you know there were just so many moments where they just made subtle smart plays and everyone deserves a ton of credit on that back in tonight yeah you're absolutely right about that and fans shouting out there are sections on the text inbox Jason and Ladner section 317 was absolutely bananas tonight matte text and shout out to the minimum three newborns in section 116 tonight uh yeah a lot of fun what the section did your feeble throw uh would have helped uh i can tell all right so here's what happened they it wasn't as bad as you make it out they released t-shirts from parachute yes one of them landed on press row oh yeah it was like you're about to hit me in the face it almost hits that and he grabbed it and threw it back no no i didn't grab it i tapped it and i hit it like on the t-shirt part oh why did you grab it well i just figured i'll just tap it back but that was my mistake because you know the bottom is so heavy so it's so beautiful it's so fun on itself that's what happened just to uh to pull back the curtains here on press road and then the in the gym robs and broadcast on there's like baskets on the edge so in case we knock anything over to the end anyone so there's a parachute t-shirt stuck in the basket and it's all of 14 inches in front of us so so sats attempt to help the fans out i tried to help the fan in what sections uh 118 then yeah something like that was easy if you didn't get a t-shirt i could have grabbed a t-shirt for myself and i decided to know i can't do that i want to give it so let's try to get it to the fans and and it just didn't work out i was trying to give an assist it just it blew up in my face yeah sorry the sections uh 324 and 118 that's on set uh my bad i'd say 324 oh you know what that's why they were shouting they were shouting at you they were shouting because they they were short a t-shirt they were short a t-shirt they could see but i want that t-shirt they're trying to make up for it uh a lot of reaction on the text and box we'll try to get to more we will get to more of your thoughts as the show goes on here uh we have a lot of reaction to on twitter gary says give me some love on the post game show i'd love to call in but it's expensive on the island of Barbados to call out i lost my voice i've made have had one too many beers nearly 2 a.m now it's the latest i've been awake after a Canucks game i'm elated i'm overjoyed whoo that's uh tweet coming in from gary gossall uh on x twitter x many mocks as nobody calls it x sad it's twitter i don't know man call whatever you want to call it it's having an identity crisis at least the Canucks don't have an identity crisis we know what team they are what else what do you have something else all right what were you talking about um like what's my turn i thought here no you're free all right he's gonna think about it and fast eddie gregory is prompting us saying let's get to the audio we mentioned we would get to play our audio post game uh at the podium quin hues the Canucks captain big tonight to help the team out dakota joshua two goals and here they are meeting with the media after four two Canucks win in game one dakota let's just start with the the emotion in the building tonight and how you guys were sort of able to feed off that especially in the third period yeah the building was uh crazy you know uh you think you know what to expect until you get out there and and you don't um but yeah the fans were behind us all night and it was nice to pull through for him and quin how about that 12 second sequence where obviously you score first and then just kota scores after what what did that momentum and and the feeling and the building do for you guys at that point in the game yeah i think we just stayed patient the entire game and didn't really um you know push too hard or you know give anything up when we're down going in the third and we got our looks and we knew we were gonna get some looks and then obviously for you know dak and garlic and lindia you know get on the four check there and um you know 12 seconds after get us get us on the board and guess the lead it was you know massive dakota in terms of the noise after you score there i mean what's that moment like for you in your head yeah a special moment i'll never forget it and uh makes you want to keep doing it that shot comes to you um that's a pretty tricky shot in that moment to not pull it right um i mean yeah it was uh it was you know a nice shot i guess i i knew that he had to slide over so i was looking to to get it upstairs and just fortunate that it went in just one more the seemed like the breakout was pretty clean until about halfway through the second period and and then it seemed like uh your club was able to um stop their momentum a little bit better obviously on your goal come comes directly off that uh what changed from in your view in terms of your four test checks are to getting more established as the game went on i think it's just you know part of being in a series the feeling out process um you know you make adjustments every period and that was you know one of them trying to clog up their breakout and uh yeah that's that was a big part of how they will happen kuen on on your goal i mean how much are you seeing that hole through there and how much it is just let's see what happens yeah i mean obviously not trying to get anything blocked um thought i had a don't need that uh thought you know had a lane there and um that's something that i've worked on you know for a couple years now just being able to get pucks through and and those he had a great screen i think uh suitor ended up tipping that and um you know we kind of talked about you know having to get in front of sorrows and take his eyes away and that's what happened on that goal and just you guys go down one nothing you go down two one the fans never quit how much of the fans is part of the story from your guys's perspective yeah kind of like dax that i mean couldn't really um believe you know you know how loud the fans were seen some playoff games you know went to new jersey and the garden last year and watched but it wasn't anything like you know what we just witnessed and um pretty special especially for me being here for five years and seeing some of those um that we've hit but uh be able to um come out here and see the support and see how much it means to the city and the people here is pretty special question for quin how how different was this predator's team compared to the version you saw in the first half of the season yeah very different i mean um i think we played them like you said really early in the year and they got a high compete level they're um got some competitive guys they're hard on pucks and then they got you know some high-end scale to foursberg 48 goals and that line's been hot and then you'll see and um so it's just one game it's good that we got the win there but you know they're gonna their competitive group they've done it all year and um but so are we this is the first home playoff win and nearly a decade what does it mean to you guys and uh what does it mean to the city it means a lot obviously you could tell um you know the building was rocking all night uh it was nice that we could you know get the first one out of the way and uh you know we're gonna need them on this ride and uh yeah it means a lot to us to to know that they have our back through it all Dakota you got to play with Elias Lindholm wouldn't mean to see first of all for him to get the goal second of all to lead on that four check to set you up for the goal um the things that he brings maybe they don't always show up on the score sheet but how big of it if he can contribute in that way as well as all the other things he does maybe get a little confidence for a guy who's pressing a bit offensively maybe yeah for sure I mean you know he's a great player so none of us really doubted that the offense um would come from him and uh yeah it was a great goal to get us going and then you know he showed uh obviously you know some of his hockey IQ they're getting in on the four check and creating that goal so you know he's he just makes you feel a lot more confident in your own game knowing that if you make a mistake he's right there to back you up and you don't have to question um what he's doing so you know it gives you more confidence in yourself it's a question for both of you guys um as well as you play tonight the two goals in 12 seconds uh it's a series of adjustments what do you think you have to do even better Tuesday night um yeah it's a good question I thought for the most part we did a really good job tonight at um being patient and when our chances come to us not pressing but and also saying that I think we you know have a little bit more of a push sometimes you know um I'm sure a lot of guys were you know feeling it out tonight you know first puff game in a long time or maybe you know some guys first and um I think that as this keeps going on we'll keep you know finding our game and playing better and um that's not to say that we didn't you know play really good tonight Dakota yesterday Rick talked about the pain of the playoffs you know paying the price to win you guys had 10 hits for the first four minutes of this hockey game I look at the way this team is built I look at you I look at JT is this the kind of hockey that you're set for that that you're built for yeah for sure it's best type of hockey no matter what type of play or you want to be in the playoffs and then play for the cops so um I mean the emotions are high at the start everybody wants to to get a hit in and get their legs under them but um yeah bringing on the pain and you know you're gonna have to to go through some stuff to to get that ultimate price at the end one word answer from both of you guys when you describe the atmosphere here six o'clock before an hour before the puck has dropped you guys I know you may have answered already but it was off the charts give me one word to describe what this building was like this evening spectacle I'm hard to put in one word but um probably electric Quinn uh I'll throw this one to you first and then one for Dakota but all your long Rick has talked about earning the day even keel just focusing on the task at hand how much did that help you tonight in this environment yeah it helped us a lot like I said I thought we played mature I mean we could have pressed and um got off our game but we didn't and we played strong mature hockey and that's what we did we let the game come to us we didn't give them too much we knew we're gonna have our looks and be able to create at certain points and hopefully next game we can get on the power pie and um produce that way also and um yeah Dakota I mean you can go through all the exesosos you want but tonight I mean it's pretty evident I mean you win puck battles in the offensive zone you get chances you get possession how much of your success is predicated we saw it on the third but how much of your success is predicated on just winning about one-on-one battle yeah it all starts somewhere on the ice uh went into one-on-one battle all the goals are scored like that no matter what zone it's in um so yeah that's that's how a lot of goals are gonna be scored in the the playoffs and um yeah I just take pride in trying to to win every battle I'm in Dakota their their power play was red hot down the stretch and kind of created that first goal looked like open you guys up a little bit the adjustments after that like I think they only got a shot on each power play afterwards how important was and what adjustments did you make yeah that was that was uh nice to regroup and shut them down after that uh just really staying in the lanes making sure that nothing was getting through to Demeron then obviously you know Demer was great when it when it did get to him after that um but yeah they they have a really good power play and we know that so you just got to be on your toes and you know be ready for anything and then you know sacrifice your body when when it's time uh Quinn for you just um the third period back here after you got the 3-2 lead you guys have done a great job of shutting teams down all season when you've been in the third period with the lead it felt like that tonight just shot scoring chances shots on goal were really really at a uh a limitation for those guys they didn't have much of anything in the final 10 minutes or the third yeah I mean I not to get redundant I keep keep saying it but I thought we were mature and didn't give them much and um we played you know play off hockey and uh that's the way it's gonna have to be for however long we're in this thing uh Quinn going into that second intermission what does that conversation in the locker room look like to try to motivate everybody I don't think anyone needed too much motivation we were you know 2-1 I think the whole thing was just we don't need to you know score for a shift in a third here we can kind of just um wait for them to give us our looks and we'll be able to create a couple a couple of looks throughout the 20 minutes there and that's you know what we did and um if we didn't score the two goals there we would have had another chance you know within the last 10 minutes there and um that's part of just growing and developing is not pushing when you don't have to but um finding a fine line there that is Quinn Hughes, Canucks captain and Dakota Joshua post game meeting with the media and both guys just couldn't say enough about the crowd tonight I mean uh it was something that these guys haven't experienced before and Quinn talked about how um there was an interview he did with Murph after the game too and he talked about how he's been he's seen on TV playoff atmosphere he's been at the garden he's been in New Jersey watching his brother play last season but he's never seen or experienced anything quite like this and this is why Canadian markets in the postseason especially for one that's been starving for playoff hockey for the better part of a decade it's something else man and they got to experience that here tonight yeah uh you know just for speaking for myself I wasn't even sure what to expect yeah and we were just talking as well like seven o'clock there was nobody waiting in the aisles to to get there it was jam-packed immediately the towers are going you two hits and suddenly you can just feel it and the vibe was immaculate tonight and fans of their part and you know what we mentioned Rick talk at one of them to be loud and and they certainly worked with the course of the year to go it was a special day yeah it really was it really was and a lot of fans are really basking in that glow here tonight we're seeing that in our text in the box 650 650 this one here says shout out to section 319 we gave it our all non-stop noise after the second goal I can't feel my face baby 15 to go uh big hits big goals big win great game for the boys we need to sign big Z and Joshua sounds like that weekend song um let's see chef swagger from hell's kitchen uh Canucks held their composure tonight and didn't have to run Hughes into the ground in the process of a comeback less than 25 shots from each team this is going to be a long series spreading the love will help in the wrong long run that chef swagger from hell's kitchen yeah the minute deployment is unbelievable uh 22-24 quid Hughes in contrast 26-51 for roman yosi so they pushed him up close to 27 minutes how does that develop as this series goes along ryan riley 23 minutes and 39 seconds for ryan riley it was a dash three now some of it is because of the empty netter but just going through who the dashes were for uh the preds dash three for fours were dash three for night quiz dash three for ryan riley dash two for roman yosi and ryan mc donna now the empty netter plays a role in that but they win the match up it's the primary highs for the preds on the wrong side of the puck tonight no you're right and uh they made the difference and riley was quoted as saying it wasn't his best performance tonight it did score goal but as you mentioned a dash three here on the evening the goal he scored was on the power play so it doesn't get a plus for it obviously uh just the text here says shout out to the lower bowl my voice is gone what a night the two fans in the building need to pace themselves we talk about the Canucks pacing themselves and they need to pace themselves there's only one game but there's a lot more to go hopefully they'll find the reserve i'm sure they will hey you know what you get lots of energy when the team plays well uh curtis and cam loop says shout out to the private booth in my living room in cam loops absolutely fired tonight and you know what for those watching at home or watching you know elsewhere not anywhere close in the lower mainland i'm sure you enjoyed it as well we're trying to you know give you the vibe and sense of being in the building what that was like tonight but uh you know i'm sure there are a lot of great atmospheres yeah at home at bars people getting together watching alone even it's one of those nights that the energy is palpable no matter where you are because it's the postseason it was probably loud wherever you were right the bar the the lounges the at-home vibe if you were allowed in your living room it was just as loud here yeah absolutely let's take one more phone call before we hit the break we're back for more we're going to midnight tonight we have Ian McIntyre joining us on the other side too so we still close things out with a triple threat but before we do that let's go to white rock where we have Gavin on the line Gavin buddy what are your thoughts here tonight boys i am so fired up right now i honestly don't know what else to say like i watching that game i went through so many damn emotions and i'm not even just talking about um the emotions where you're excited uh to watch a playoff game i'm talking about being nervous to literally even watch the game at first i felt like i had my own championship game or something to watch tonight and watching it and going into the second period and seeing them not have the best second period uh and i'm sure most people would agree and then going to the third and having a game change like that in the span of 12 seconds it's literally everything you hope for to see in a playoff game in any sport right that goes for NBA that goes for NFL anything just back-to-back plays in the span of 12 seconds everything just changes and honestly seeing the NHL Instagram page posts us and even house the highlights and bleacher report these prominent uh united states like most most of the time they're posting basketball and NFL but posting us on their page and people literally in the comments saying holy crap Vancouver is born and Vancouver's stadium is absolutely through the roof it just makes me so happy to be from Vancouver and literally makes me so happy right now to be a Canucks fan like that was the best performance i've ever seen and honestly i'm going to push a quick question to you guys and ask you how would this compare um you know the electric vibe that you guys witnessed from Vancouver compared to maybe uh the past games that you've seen the Canucks perform in the playoffs and i know it's been a long time and recency bias is a factor but bias aside how do you guys feel right now because i know you guys like to see the Canucks win too man it makes your job easier and you guys are Canucks fans at hearts too i i know that for a fact and there's no crime in admitting that hey i appreciate your phone call Gavin listen i i have made no secret girl being a Canucks fan i was a Canucks fan back in Sweden when i was a kid so it's like it is something that has always been here and dear to my heart i want this team to do well obviously you remove emotion while you're calling the games you're trying to do your best to be as you know non-judgmental as possible or non-bias as possible and you know obviously i don't have the same emotion as you know fans have during the moment because you know we we have to peel that back but i don't want to see anything but this team have success and in terms of how the fans feel tonight and what this barn was like the last time i was in a playoff game was here in 2015 i went to two games in Calgary i was here for game two as well it was loud but it wasn't like this now that was also coming off like the 2010-2011 year the little fatigue the team had struggled a bit the missed the playoffs a year before there were you know people knew they were good but nobody really felt they had a chance tonight was allowed us i've heard this building i've been to playoff games in 2011 i've been in playoff games in 2012-2015 but this was the loudest i've heard it now i'm sure there were games in 2011 i wasn't that they may have been loud i wasn't at the cup final games and that you know you know we heard how how crazy it was but if i compare it to say say from 2012 till now this is the loudest i've heard the building in in 12 years yeah this was obviously my first covering the game playoff game uh been to playoff games as a fan um but in the last seven years the only thing i can compare this to is Daniel Henry Cydines last night and that one was more it was more like a natural emotion yeah i wanted you to pop at the end of the game when when when they scored that was a lot of time i've never heard the building but this was sustained and it was intense the whole way the intensity too especially when um you know like yavin mentioned those 12 seconds when josh was scored with josh was scored i thought steve austin was coming out of orange it was that level of pop it was it was so wholesome little thing what's going on it was ridiculous how loud it was all right i keep your thoughts coming into our text on the box we're trying to get a few more in here we are going to be joined by e and mac attire as the connect central post game show continues presented by the number five orange a vancouver legend they've got sports two more next in the home of your kennox sports net 650 kennox talk with jamie dot and thomas drantz will dive deep into all that's happening with the vancouver sports net 650 and the sports net radio network sure what right wing to the red line dumps it in col smith on the forcha takes a bump from e and cola nikita zodorov's got it near corner goes up the wall for decoded josh way centers for elias lindhall with speed to the national line shoots his doors the tree deadline acquisition draws the kennox onto level terms elias lindholm ties the game at one and the kennox didn't get enough pucks on that in the first period but here in the second period elias lindholm coming in with speed across the blue line and just snaps on right through uc sorrows as he enters the blue line and sorrows it goes between his body and his arm on the blocker's side this is one that he won't like as it goes right to the back of the net but the kennox are on the board 1-1 elias lindholm strong game the head coach rick talk at post game said that's why we acquired him at the trade deadline kennox go on to win 4-2 over the preds to take game one and this is the kennox central post game show presented by number five orange on the home of your kennox sports net 650 satier shaw with bick nazar keep your thoughts coming into our text in the box a lot of thoughts here tonight sturling in Calgary says all of a sudden a bigger price for big z is making more sense the door up absolutely clutch and he showed he can play great and his best and the biggest games uh nade says the game was amazing tonight i just want to say i'm really happy you guys finally get to cover playoff games for the kennox let's go win a Stanley cup that's nade texting in and William and Langley says kennox style of player for the playoffs is if you move we'll hit you talk and really cut these guys loose for the series the boys just really got to try staying out of the box absolutely amazing atmosphere across the entire city re-signed to kota joshua now let's go boys great show that's William and Langley texting it yeah they wind up with 39 hits the predators with 32 so a little bit of an edge there and also in blocked shots the preds at 14 connects with 11 but they also had more of the puck this evening a slight edge at 50.3 percent but in the offensive zone they had a minute and half more to the preds yeah so they did keep the puck in the off the zone a bit more had a lot of shots blocked but it did get enough through to win the game obviously torgy says it may or may not fly under the radar but zodora was everything you wanted when you picked them up i also like lindholm's first half especially and besser's sneaky smart good game that's torgy texting in so lindholm getting a lot of love and zodora off as another guy who's been getting a lot of mentions but also uh torgy throws in block besser i did think he did a good job winning along the boards i know miller got a lot of credit for how his line went but i thought his wingers tonight i thought suitor had a good game he obviously gets a goal as well tipping the queen hews shot into the mate to tie the game at two and then you know seconds later to code of josh what it takes to lead but i thought besser did a really good job in front of net tonight winning along the boards keeping the play going that was the conks best line tonight in terms of connecting play and keeping the puck in the off of the zone i thought jt miller would besser and suitor oh yeah that that you know miller in particular handled the puck so well tonight and i know in the years past we've discussed like oh is that a you know safe over handling it maybe is he trying to do too much but like there were just so many moments where in tough spots where doesn't have the leverage but creates it and his passing tonight was so crisp the the hardest passes came from jt miller tonight yeah and not hardest by degree of difficulty just how much he was putting on him and getting into the spot either to let someone else chip it out helps create the y'all see the empty neckl where he gets an assist on it but he was he was crisp tonight and that's what they needed they got a tough matchup and uh they they did the job uh absolutely did uh Nav and Edmondson says what a game boys i was worried for a minute because of the roughing but the hockey gods came through for us what a game go Canucks you guys were right about Lindholm and i thought the same he was a huge tonight my boss said if we make it to round two he will fly me back and go to the game with me so let's go Canucks fans need them Canucks fans the team to come through they have they have prizes waiting for them i always joke at this time of the year um tell your bosses that you're you're missing work and then in certain things and that we say it's okay yeah if you need permission slips we'll happily sign something we'll do what we can to get those over to you uh this text here says a decade boys a full decade 2011 was when i graduated high school i just turned 30 yeah oh i feel you time goes by fast the Canucks tonight oh you know it was an incredible atmosphere and a man who's seen some great atmospheres here our rogers arena joins us now he called the triple threat looking magnificent in his purple tie in his suit here tonight great you watch him on tv you read him on digital you're about to hear him on radio post season edition it is Ian McIntyre this year's suit actually i will say no it's more comfortable wearing a sweater i gotta say i gotta say i know i gotta make it so i'm not on the broadcast but i did tape something post-game with mr but i find it's a little more relaxing it's a little more straightforward right when i'm not worried about tv yeah because i know that you're gonna be better dressed better looking smarter i don't know about those and you're gonna hog all the airtime hog in the airtime i may agree with but the rest i i would concede yeah at least he leaves all the good points for you nobody looks sharper tonight than lina though yeah yeah oh dressed for game one yeah dressed for game one fantastic doing social doing yeah great stuff on social also uh ensuring that there were enough uh chairs for needy hosts uh for sports in 650 as well i know the building was full tonight it was crowded along press row it was crowded everywhere it was snug it was very snug uh we had a very uh it was yeah it was myself uean uh brett festerling and big nazar we're all kind of huddled in a corner at least we were together as as a sports net crew which was nice yeah i never worked that uh close to brett before i should have talked more to him but you were between us yeah i was uh got in your way a little bit there was lots of talking going on yes well you intermissions because you have to do the intermissions uh as well but he stand office at the best you know that i covered him with the vancouver giant you know brett you know brett you know brett well i don't know if he remembers well i'm sure he does but yeah because that was the the lockout year and uh so they shifted the vancouver sun shifted it's incredibly deep resources to covering junior hockey so you didn't want to cover a hockey related revenue and uh oh i you know what i had to write my share of that as well luckily uh Trevor Linden who by then i'd known for many years and was was instrumental in that so i got some information from him along the way that helped that's fantastic but we better talk you know i love not talking about the game but let's talk well i mean since this is the first playoff game in nine years maybe we should talk about it a little you know what uh well i'll get to something brett mentioned about uh the first goal which was scored which we talked about like who was that fault because the coach mentioned who was that fault and brett nailed it but we have to lead off with the atmosphere here at the rink tonight i mean you've seen some incredible atmospheres um the last playoff game i was at was game two uh in 2015 at home i went to the two games in calgary too but 2015 here game two good game i think connex won that game pretty good atmosphere how did you get yourself to calgary uh in an rv rv rv trip me finned the mode we're in rv with like this was bad making this all day no i swear it was me i was at 10 40 days this is a book right well it might be if on the road with fin and mode i maybe i'll write a book one day or get somebody to write it for me or whatever who took up more space in the rv what's the egos or size well i'll let you decide what i'm asking i know i'm just kidding i love both guys uh modes a great guy and fin of course is one of my favorites but no it was great it was great to tell me nobody used the porta party at the back of the rv i don't know if anybody did i don't think anybody did so much for wanting to talk about the game all right all right all right you can't drop it at something like that that's why yeah but you ask me how i got the calgary so i answered the question yeah i kind of it was sort of i meant figuratively like how in the world did a what were you doing at that time you were producing i was producing the morning show the producer of the morning show or the morning show or no it was just that was uh no but we ran into a bunch of listeners on the way we stopped the producer of the morning show ended up in an rv to go into calgary to go to calgary to cover playoff hockey that's radio basically that's radio but you know i i loved it i loved every single man of it it was fantastic i had a great time uh but this was the loudest i've heard the building and i mean even it paled the comparison 2015 even to what the atmosphere was here and you've seen you know any atmosphere you want that you know for the past few decades where where does game one tonight against the preds rank in terms of enthusiasm at the rank well you said to me when josho escorted that's the loudest the building's been in nine years so i stole that idea as i always do without credit in you i love it but i expanded on it and i said it's the the loudest eruption since 2011 and i think it probably was since game five of of 2011 against the boston bruins and i mean who knows maybe it was just simple something as simple as joy right but it's possible and i'm just spitballing here it's possible that roar reflected uh more than just the goal yeah right this is a team vancouver you know since that game five they've lost seven of nine home games only nine in 13 years before well 12 years i guess only nine games they don't they'd only one two of them the franchise we know and we've we've talked about this so much it it until until it wins the Stanley Cup it hasn't and until it does there's always this feeling of doom around every corner that every you know every path has a trap door in it and it's going to end badly and you know i just wonder if this team is maybe different and that's not a prediction that they're going to win the Stanley Cup but might be a little more robust that the foundation because of the way that talk it has them playing you know the how high their floor is and that's what i was most impressed with tonight like they didn't play great but like as they showed so often in the season even when they're not great they have this high floor and they get through rough periods or or rough patches and and they don't they don't crumble they're not brittle like so often we've seen connect teams and this is game you think about it so first home game in nine years and and all that emotion and atmosphere with almost half a lineup i counted nine players who had never played a real playoff game in the NHL in front of fans like a bunch in the bubble but not in front of fans and of course those nine players includes most of this team's core all of that and then you're down early and then you're down in the third period but there was never any panic to them like yeah they might have lost the game if they might have lost two one or three one if Nashville gets an empty letter but they kind of just kept going and you know they played their best hockey in the third they got better in the second played their best hockey in the third took the game away from Nashville with those two goals and was it 12 seconds and it it just sort of felt different than what we've come to expect from connect teams which isn't say i mean that 2011 team was the best team in the NHL by far right up to that sixth game in Boston i mean so they've had these really talented teams in the past not often but they have had some but it feels like maybe there's you know a sturdier foundation to this one that there's some bedrock there just because of how they play how consistent they are and how they don't seem to get rattled very much and you know eventually talent plays a huge part and i guess we'll find out what the talent is like but they certainly have talented players i i just think that how quickly this game turned from a 2-1 deficit in a third period to a 3-2 lead and subsequently a 4-2 win i think maybe that reflects something more than just you know the Canucks had a couple of good shifts in the middle of the third period the the third line we've always talked about is being a stabilizing force and i thought lint home was fantastic though the course of this game and each guy kind of had their moment garland sits at Joshua who gets two goals today um just just the trio uh really to me were we're a stadium force in this game well i i said in my i wrote about connor garland on saturday and i said that that line is a huge x factor um potentially uh an influence that could decide a series because they are the third line you know that for two and a half two months during the regular season they were the Canucks best line quietly they were the best line they were outperforming you know the miller line they were outperforming the peterson line but they are still the third line so they're not going to see romen yosi a whole lot and i haven't said that i haven't even looked at the fancy stats see how much yosi played against them but you don't get it you know lint home told me after you know the third third line you you don't see the top pairing very much yeah you're not necessarily seeing the other team's best line although maybe you will in Nashville you know maybe that's a matchup that that brunette will like but they have a chance with their talent level and now i i love that lint home and i'm not just saying that because of tonight i've said it since he got put there i love that deployment i love putting them in a position where that's in his wheelhouse to just be a great dependable two-way center uh not great like spectacular just great consistent and do all the little things well because that's what they need that's all they need on that line garland and joshra and especially garland does so much of the play driving and they've shown that they can be productive with whoever they're playing with and most of the season it was teddy blüger but i i think they can that line can make a real difference in the series certainly they made the difference in game one and i think it they're a trio that national is going to have to account for like the when we always know in a playoff series one of the fascinating things how the teams adjust and how things are in game one aren't necessarily how they aren't game before and certainly not by game seven and nationals take away from this game one of their biggest ones will be okay what are we going to do about that lint home joshua garland line not many teams have you know have the other teams worrying about their third line but national will have to come up with something well and you know to the question you had for how much time lindholm played against uh the rhino riley line so he was out there for 549 in lys lindholm uh 549 ice time so that's a lot of ice time as a lot of ice time as it's the most of any forward he faced jt miller was also out on out on the ice uh against um rhino riley tonight for about four and a half minutes and even elias peterson he got some time against rhino riley two net almost three minutes but it was jt miller but lindholm lindholm tonight that line you know we were kind of wondering with deployment how was the head coach going to approach this game situationally he had a blotter line out there when they were trailing late in periods but they were very active in getting the match-ups they wanted but it's clear that they use lindholm mostly to go head-to-head against rhino riley and that's just five on five total ice time because power play pk it's 945 for 10 minutes yeah lindholm versus o'riley yeah i i would love to know uh the breakdowns by period because it seemed in the first period there's there was a lot of miller it was a lot of um head-to-head power on power right uh i wonder if you know looking at the the shift times in the match-ups if in the second half of the game they started going more to to lindholm but that's you know that that shows you how much confidence the coaching staff has and quote-unquote the third line uh doesn't change my point that they can still yeah make a difference and certainly it wouldn't change lindholm's uh point that as a third line you are you don't see the top pairing uh very often which means you have a chance to you have a chance to score and and make a difference i thought i thought they were we're very good i think you know the the pass by garland and especially the finish by joshua was superb but i think people aren't talking enough about the play that lindholm made to get him in the forecheck and knock loson who's a pretty big powerful defenseman knock him off the puck to create uh the opening for for garland to to fetch it and quickly relay it to joshua it was it was a great goal like you know for quick plays and succession to hit the pass the finish that that was a great NHL goal i mean i mean worthy of a playoff game where it really was i mean an incredible finish and you know a lys lindholm got that goal to uh to tie things up early in the second period it was a nice play through the neutral zone as well i mean i thought it was one of those games where they didn't capitalize on enough opportunities the first half of the game they had a few odd man rushes where they flubbed a couple passes or it seemed like the enthusiasm was very high on the player's side too and the coach mentioned they were chasing hits a bit here tonight and sometimes you put yourself out of position but it seemed like once they kind of real that in as you mentioned the second and third they really started creating some better quality scoring chances as well and they were full value to come back to win this hockey game yeah lindholm said that you know they were with the atmosphere and everything obviously people are wound up any thought that they weren't making plays in the first and then he he said uh they got better in the second and played their best in the third uh i i think there was some truth that i think that when the connects had a chance in the first 20 minutes as you say they they over complicated things you know a couple of passes that were forced one by garland one by jasha and of course we're singing their praises now but you know forced passes it that just dissipated dangerous rushes where they easily could have got pucks to the net and i mean you look at the time well the first goal is one that saro should have saved but it's a pretty simple thing like rush get across the blue line put the puck on net and they were probably looking for a rebound and surprised it was a goal but you still you know it was a very simple play uh that the second goal by hues just get the puck to the net suitors go with it's it's not because of it now soon yeah yeah okay what does it say on the green sheet there uh it says does it say hues or suitor it says well you look on the wrong side this no it says it says on the green sheet it does say you know but they have changed that it has been changed i thought well that's no good for my deadline is it the whole country right now is reading how queen hues tied the game but anyways a shot from the point through traffic um again nothing complicated about that and even the third goal which you know was a fantastic goal it's still you know hockey 101 get to the puck center the puck shoot the puck you know and and i think i think so much of what happened tonight is reinforcement for the Canucks and especially the guys who had never played the real playoff hockey because uh this was kind of textbook playoff hockey i mean there wasn't there didn't seem to be a whole lot of animosity and and maybe there there isn't going to be it maybe i'm wrong about that i thought the national would really attack physically vancouver's top players and yeah it was a very physical game but nothing over the line right and and not much happening post scrums and there's a couple little scrums but not but not much not much and and in those scrums i didn't really see anybody going out trying to take advantage right of someone else you know it's just two guys angry shoving each other um but so much of tonight's game is you know how few chances there were early the atmosphere the physicality of you know conventional hits for lack of a better term the tightness of the game the the importance of special teams like you know that looked like that was going to be a huge factor until the Canucks got their two goals is the one goal the the penalties of Vancouver took which they certainly can't do taking three in a role like they did in the second period and then the power play goal all of these things are are fun and then goal tending yeah as well you know demco was better than seros uh tonight uh all of those things are kind of what you expect from playoff hockey and the Canucks experienced all that in one game and granted every game ratchets up and every game gets harder and certainly each round if you're lucky enough to win one the next round is harder always um to win but they got to experience all that they they have an idea now of what it takes and they experienced it in a positive way by doing the things that they needed to do to still win the game we talking about the finish you mentioned demco the start for him was fantastic right because this is you know he's one of the guys that this is new for in this environment but makes a huge save against pavilion massive and just the guy that he had his moment as well in this game he did and you know didn't maybe look great on the first goal although i don't think he saw the puck but he was also swimming a little bit left to right way and it went off peterson's blade too because he's going left to right it goes off his blade hits his the post and goes in so a bit of an unlucky balance to yeah but you know the when he's tracking the puck well ordinarily he would be by that by the post i don't know that he would typically be pushing to the middle right right have kind of sold out to that degree that the puck's going one way and and and he's going another um but you know when i was most impressed it was a great save on pavilion and there was one that got the crowd into it right that was that was a big moment early in the game but it's when the Canucks took the lead three two did it not feel like okay well demco's given up two he's probably not given up a third yeah i felt like he's gonna lock it down and there's been so many games this year where it it and i've talked to players and they feel it as well that it doesn't matter how many he has given up or you know there's been so few poor goals because he's had he had a spectacular season uh before he was injured um so you know there hasn't been a lot of bad goals but there's just he seems in the big moment to come up with his biggest saves and yeah that was a uh obviously a big moment the first but once they're up three two i was there anything that really troubled him there was like an immediate and there was a net promise that he made two saves but even even that like he was he was so solid yeah and he had the puck blocked like that one wasn't wasn't getting i think that was a pavilion again was it pavilion no who was it i'm blanking but yeah and there was no vac uh i could be wrong on that though jen kalski i think it was 17 yeah no it wasn't jen kalski is no shot some goal anyways uh damko was you know he he just ins inspires confidence in the group which may be is the most important you can do yeah absolutely and uh before we get out i mentioned what bret festerling said they one of the things the coach pointed out post-game in his media availability was being better off face-offs he mentioned defending the edge and he mentioned lafferty on that play because he ends up taking the face off he has a role the centerman i kind of gets confused and that leaves ucker open peterson closes out but it's late it's little details like that where you probably have to clean up a bit and that's something that i don't know if the coach sound concerned about it but certainly something on his radar off face-offs off the coverage especially with how creative Nashville is in those spots yeah and and we were talking about that in real time about who's out what should have happened there and it wasn't until i saw the replay that i was i really was convinced that it was lafferty because you know sometimes it it's the the inside center goes out to the far point and it shouldn't matter though like who's and i think lafferty got confused partly because he was at center instead of in his usual spot on the wing although he has been a center in this league so but you you no matter who you're out there with no matter where you which spot of the three as a forward you're lining up in they all know they all should know their responsibility and and where they have to go but i mean there's there's there's gonna be moments like that in a game and it's you know can you get can you get through them and if that one they didn't they didn't survive because they gave up a goal but then how do you deal with it like you're never gonna play a mistake-free game probably be pretty dull if you did uh sports is is basically predicated on one team doing enough to the other to cause mistakes and it's all about you know again how do you manage it how you know are you are you are you riding the waves up and down you know and rising and falling with the swells because that's not how you want to be playing you want to even in in rough seas try to just have a stable course and and and even trajectory through a game and i think that's again what the Canucks show tonight they can play a lot better that's why you know i was talking about the floor of this team and the ceiling i guess we'll find out what what the ceiling is hopefully it's really high i mean it's been high at point at points during this it's that floor that's so impressive now because it's it's higher than i can ever remember it no no it's a great point and Ian fantastic stuff is always on the post-game show joshin
