Everyone. It's Bears Monday. - First and goal at the one. Caleb awaiting the snap. Takes, here comes late pressure. Ducks under it, rolls right. Throws wide open, end zone, right side, pass. Caught for the touchdown, Keenan Allen. Touchdown Bears. Now for two. Snap to Caleb Williams. Throws back in the end zone, DJ Moore. Snares it for two. A pump of the fist by Caleb Williams. - And a one step kick, there's Santos Rips it right. - Ball moves and it is on the ground, recovered. By the Bears it appears. - Yeah. - Did it go 10? - It touched the biking. - No, it touched the biking, all right. Bears have come up with it. Oh my goodness. - Trio to the left, Caleb takes the snap. Three man rush and a good one. But it's picked up. Throwing over the middle of the field. It is caught by DJ Moore. Up in the air, had the 30. Bears rush with 12. - Give the ball to the fish set. - Got the official at nine. Eight, seven, six underneath center. Caleb snaps the ball down with three seconds to go. - Walked from 48 earlier. This on the left hash angle, right for number eight. Snap, placement made. Swings is right lead from 48 yards. The kick is good. We are tied at 27. We're going to overtime, baby. Bears with the fight of their life. They balled up their fist and brought themselves back. Wow, this place has erupted. So this will be a 29 yard field go try by Romo. Again, on the Bears practice squad a couple of years back. Middle of the field, hash mark. Snap, placement kicked by Romo. The kick is up and it is good. And the Minnesota Vikings sneak out of here after blowing a lead in the second half and coming from behind and overtime to win it, 30 to 27. - It's Bears Monday on ESPN Chicago. Make sure that you watch our show on YouTube, YouTube.com. Look for ESPN Chicago on YouTube and on Twitch. Twitch.tv/ESP1000Chicago. As we talk about the Chicago Bears and our loss against the Minnesota Vikings by the score of 30 to 27 and overtime. Cap as the Bears are now 4 and 7 on the season. Outcoached once again, critical errors by veteran players. DeAndre Carter waving his hand. Get away from the ball, bam, right off his leg. We're covered at the 15, five plays later. They're in the end zone, Aaron Jones. And yet the Bears keep fighting. Caleb was outstanding yesterday. Took a terrible sack in overtime. He's a rookie. Here's things he has to learn. But some of the throws he made were eye-popping yesterday. And any of you out there that have been questioning whether this kid is the real deal or not, he was sensational at times yesterday. Sensational. But again, you're let down by your coaching staff. What the heck were we doing defensively as lack of aggressiveness if that's a term to use in overtime? Chunk plays. Ebert Flus talks all the time. We got to limit the chunk plays. I think there were six of them. Huge plays. 69 yards to Jordan Addison. And then Jordan Addison might have stepped out. You can't use the boundary cam because it can only be used on scoring reviews and turnovers. You can't use it on a coaches challenge. Okay, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard from the NFL. A multi-billion dollar league and you can't use the camera. But oh, we can use it for that. But we can't use it for that because not every stadium has one. So ticked off about the lack of preparation, another block field goal. And you got Vikings players openly talking in the locker room. Yeah, we couldn't believe they didn't fix the protection issue on the left side that we saw in the Green Bay game. We looked at it, huh? They didn't fix it. Bam, blocked. And almost blocked the game time kick. You know, I think that many have felt this way cap, but my first statement about this mess at Hallows Hall is that the only thing that matters to me now moving forward is number 18. And number 18 is Caleb Williams. Caleb Williams and the support around him is the only thing that's important to me now as a Bears fan because as a rookie, he has shown that he can make elite throws and that he can keep the Bears in ball games. We've seen this. There's ups and downs of his game, but that's like any rookie. There's gonna be ups and downs in their game, in their first season in the league. And the ups and downs were predictable. There's been some really good games and there's been some block games from Caleb Williams. But the point is though, is that at this point in time, the quarterback and his development is the only reason to watch or listen to Bears games for me. Because as we take a look at this football team right now at four and seven with a five game losing streak, we're talking about a head coach right now that is five and 18 in one score games. He's the only coach with a sub 400 win percentage in one score games. So you can't win the blow outs, you can't win this close game. So what can you win? We're immersed in a five game losing streak again. The same losing skids cap that we saw in 22 and in 21 and in 20 and in 2017. Another long losing streak for the Chicago Bears team. And as you mentioned, an offense that worked where Caleb Williams is as confident as it was ever seen him under coach Brown. But then you look at the other side, how about the defense? How about the defense? The vaunted defense is supposed to get the job done. How many times did the Vikings get the job done on third and 13 and third and 12 and third and 10? How often did that happen? Because the Bears are getting bashed defensively. So you as if you're the head coach cap, if you're Matt Iberfluze, you don't have a leg to stand on. You don't. How do you go to House Hall and say, well, here's the good things that we've done. The resume is just marred with so much negativity and so many things that the Bears have not done. There's no leg to stand on if you're Matt Iberfluze. You're supposed to be the defensive coordinator. Your defense sucks. It does. You have some really good plays 'cause we're actually able to see Montes sweat, actually make some plays yesterday. Good to see. We saw Demarcus Walker actually, he actually is on the field cap and he's making plays. But the point is though is that you could say, hey, you know what, we may not be winning games, but look at my, he's got nothing defensively. It's coach Brown getting the job done offensively. And so if you're Iberfluze, you know you're done. You know it. We all know it, but he knows it too because you can't keep going in this direction. You're out of the playoff mix and you've got nothing positive outside of the one thing that I'm watching moving forward. And that's number 18, Caleb Williams. 'Cause that's the only reason why for you and I to watch and for Bears fans to watch is to watch the development. 'Cause there's nothing else to watch there. Nothing. - Fair? - Fair? - No one kicks their own ass more than the Chicago Bears. Nobody kicks their ass more than the Bears. And so this is where you are, Cap. So we're just playing out the string, but the only entertainment value is watching 18 because as you said it before, the season is about chasing greatness. That young man is looking at chasing greatness. And this coach is going to be chasing for another job at the end of the season. That's what he's chasing. Get the sweatshirts print for him. Chasing another job. Fair. And if they go out on Thursday, short week and get drilled by a really good Lions team and I got to give Shay his props. It's got to be a month ago. He said, I know Kansas City's undefeated. That's the best team of football. Shay, they've got a loss. The other one's undefeated. You can't put him at number one. And he in the face of an onslaught of criticism from both of us, he has stuck to his gut. That's the best team in the NFL. And it's not close. Not close. That team is phenomenal. And I believe they're going to win the Super Bowl. I really do. They're that good. But holy cow, you get blown the heck out on Thursday. We're going to be here on Friday. We're both working. Yep. It would not shock me if there was a change if they get drilled on Thursday. Change now, change at the end of the season. The view stays the same. The only reason why that we'd want a firing from the head coach tomorrow or today or after Thanksgiving is because you get tired of seeing the same thing. But you will see the same thing because the product is the same. What we're seeing here is number 18 really coming into his own offensively. But on the other side cap, when you're surrendering 468 all-purpose yards defensively, that won't get it done. It won't. You think that's bad on Sunday, win till Thursday. Now, I understand it's a short week and the lines will win the ballgame. I think that's clear. But the point is though, is that cap, again, you're looking for things that are positive moving forward. So that way, when we flip the calendar to next season, you say, these are our cornerstones. 18 is a cornerstone. That's it right there. There's wide receivers and there's some defensive players that we like, but they fall in comparison. They pale in comparison to what Caleb Williams can bring in the table. That's him. He's a centerpiece to all of it. That's the reason why we're coming in on Friday to talk about Caleb Williams. - 100%. - 100%. And there are going to be a lot of guys around the league. If that job opens, when it does, go. I know the organization has issues. I know they don't win up there. I know they've got a lot of things that got to get cleaned up. Guess what? I got that guy. I can win with that guy, period. So I fully expect a change would not be shocked. I know everyone's saying, it's never going to happen. They've never fired a coach in season. That's nonsense. I can guarantee you that if they get blown the heck out on Thursday, that discussion will be helped. - I just don't understand, Cap, in year three. And I'm sure it happens around the league. And I think it's covered up by better play and better players. I just don't understand just running around like school children, trying to figure out what play you want to put on the field of play. It's the NFL. Fourth and four. You going for the kick? No, no, we're not going to go for the kick. Here comes the field goal unit, Cap. Halfway out on the field. And they have to turn tail and go back because now here comes Caleb Williams. Time running down. He has to throw an emergency pass to Kean Allen and it's incomplete. Cap, you have to know. You tell me, listen, I never coached. You tell me, in that scenario, you have to be thinking plays ahead. - Of whatever sense. - But the idea that behind you, and this is not picking on Hebrew Flus, we're just talking facts as far as seemingly, every year we talk about this, where there's confusion on the sideline. Are you saying what you want to do? That should be in the headset. If we don't make it here or if we make it here, we're going to do this. That should already be there. But the idea that the field goal unit's coming out, then have to come back. And then here comes Caleb having to throw a pass to Kean. Like, what's going on over there? - And then the play doesn't get in on time. - Right. - You got DeAndre Carter waving everybody off. And the ball hits him in the leg. They recover at the 15, five plays later. There's Aaron Jones in the end zone. I mean, Jalen Johnson had a bad day. - As he did. - He got a pick for Jonathan Owens. And guess what? Pass interference number one on the defense. - Really? Cornerstones that you're supposed to believe in, and they're not playing well. - Correct. - That's when you know it's all. That's it. - Absolutely terrible, terrible, terrible stuff. They look unprepared. The field goal block is unconscionable. - Again. - And again, it wasn't like he stubbed his toe. It was the same exact area of the line. And then let me read you exactly what the Vikings said. And tell me this is not on coaching, okay? The Packers identified an issue with the Bears field goal operation in week 11. They led to a block and a game-winning tribe at Cairo Santos. And the Bears didn't eliminate it, heading into Sunday's game against the Vikings. Santos had a kick block by Vikings D-Lime and Jerry Tillery in the second quarter. And the play wound up looming large because the game went to overtime. Safety Theo Jackson of the Vikings said Minnesota knew we had a chance because Santos kicks with a low trajectory and linebacker Pat Jones said he was surprised to see the team did not change their protection scheme after last Sunday's end of game debacle. Quote, that's kind of rare because normally teams will go clean up what they need to clean up. You always expect teams to fix stuff, but we knew if they didn't get it fixed, we're gonna go get us one. - See? - Hey Darno, right, can you now come over here and block on the left side because we're not good enough. Damn. - I said cap, there is a bullseye on the Bears special teams because they know this kicker has a low trajectory. - Correct. - So now it's like anything else, it's on film. Now it's just about opportunity and execution from the other team to try to block the field goal every time. - Absolutely. - Because they see the line in front of him and they see the low trajectory is like, yeah, we can get us one. That it's gonna be like that for the rest of the season now because now it's done several times. And so now that's a negative on the special teams. For all the positive we saw, when Caleb Williams to everyone being able to eat talking about DJ Moore and Keenan Allen and Cole Comette and Rolma Dunezay, for all these guys to be able to get the job done and try to help this offense, how clutch it was at the end, special teams, how they were able to cap in a big spot to be able to get that on-side kick. It's awesome. This whole field like Johnny XA was up for grabs, which to the point where we were down like watching the game ago, God. And then all of a sudden you're up again. You're sitting up in the chair a little bit more upright like, oh, we got an opportunity to win this thing. It was so positive and so many things. Even though it was a mess across the board, there were so many great things that the Bears did and what an opportunity to win that ball game. 'Cause what we have done is if the Bears won, we talk about the victory high, it was clutch against a really good team. And then from there talk about how, yeah, some things that need to clean up. But Jay Moore, here's what it comes down to. There's so many good things that happened with the Bears. But then it just shows you why they have a five game losing streak because they don't know how to win at this point in time. They had an opportunity to get the job done and they did not. - Yeah, I was at the game yesterday and 40% of the people left when we were down 11. - Wow. - And once that situation happened from the fourth quarter going into overtime, everybody's spirits was up, it was electric, it was just so a really good vibe and the stadium and we were just deflated again. - You had an opportunity, you was right there. - Yep. - And then of course you pissed it away. Of course you did. - How 'bout this? - And overtime. - Ebert Flusas Bears coach is five and 18. Five and 18 in one score games. - Yeah? - Kevin O'Connell, 24 and 10. And how 'bout this one, they just flashed it up as well on TV. Kansas City in one score game yesterday. That's their 13th in a row, in a row. - Ebert Flusas under 40% in one score games. - Hmm, wow. - If you're the only coach. - Five and 18 you say. - Yeah. - Wow. - 3-1-2-3-3-2-E-S-P-N-3-3-2-3-7-7-6 is our telephone number. If you're on hold, you will be on the air. Kevin, I wanna talk to you about what you saw. If you were at Soldier Field, we wanna get your thoughts 'cause Jay Moore was there, the up and down, the ebb and flow of how things went with the Chicago Bears are like, oh, we're gonna lose again. But then you felt like the Bears had an opportunity and they fell short. First on-side kick recovery this year by a team. First one. So, let's get your thoughts here about the Bears. Still to come, we'll hear from Caleb Williams, the quarterback for the Bears as well. It's a Bears Monday on the Captain J. Hood Morning Show. (upbeat music) - Hits an eye on the air to the air side being waved up. Oh, it hit the Andre Carter. Post three, Minnesota's got it at the 15. It kicked back and hit the Andre Carter. He was waving everybody off. And the Vikings come up with it. Captain J. Hood on back. - Appreciate you guys. I listened to you streaming on the ESPN 1000 app. - Chicago's home for sports, ESPN Chicago. - It's a Captain J. Hood Morning Show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app on a Bears Monday. 3, 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 3, 7, 7, 6 is our telephone number. Make sure you watch our show on Twitch and on YouTube we'll hear from Matt Iberflu's Head Coach for the Bears coming up at 8.20. It's an overreaction Monday. We'll get to that as well. The first, your thoughts about the Bears? You've heard our thoughts. I mean, five-game losing streak. Bears have had losing streaks in 17 and 20, 21, 22, all five games or more and it just sucks. It does. Now, Cap, you mentioned in the first segment talking about Caleb Williams. And again, I thought one of the best games he's had is Chicago Bear when you think of the numbers. 340 yards, 32 for 47. The key stat to me is no interceptions, zero interceptions. So he keeps it clean. But again, Cap, because he's a rookie and they all do it, they will regress back to the days in college. You're not in Los Angeles anymore where you think that an offensive line and your tight end, anyone else will hold up for you to make a play for 10 seconds. Yeah, against San Jose State. Brother, you just can't-- Can't do it. I know you think you have time to make a play. But at some point, that will have to get out of him. He has to know even in his clock, the clock in his head, went off thinking, ah, if I could just give more time to get to DJ, more time. There is no more time, brother. They're not getting open. You got the red ball away. It was a silly sack. We've seen him from Caleb Williams before. But as a rookie, you have to deal with that. As an offensive staff, like, you tell him to get the ball out. And still, he thinks, ah, man. And he's been-- Ah, I can get it out. In the last two weeks with Thomas Brown, he's been much, much better at getting the ball out on time, not on that play. He didn't. No. He dropped a bunch of guys out, knowing that we had to get a good chunk play. And I held the ball too long. And they made a great play. I should have just thrown a ball out of bounds, lived and fight another down, another play. And it's not what happened. What can Brown do for you? When was it clear for you, what was going on? And did you have enough time to get everybody in place, of course? A down play. We ended up running up against the clock in that moment. In those moments, you don't really want to run up against the clock, just because you want to get set and have your play and be able to see what's going on. And I think the confusion of-- because Kyle wrote and then ran on a field and all of that. So I think the confusion had to play and come in a little bit later. And we got to the huddle and trying to scramble. And I ended up mishearing what TV said. You know, from there, it went downhill and had an incomplete pass on a play that we didn't. And I didn't necessarily want to run. And we didn't. TV and the other coaches that we didn't call. And from there, you've got to just-- you obviously aren't going to try and use another timeout, because the game's going to be close to the end of the game, because we already used one. So you've got to get up there. If you have to, really fast, make a few checks and get the ball snapped. And it still is a match-up lead. So go to your best match-up guys. And right then and there, I went to Canaan. And we just missed-- You're saying you missed her to play call? Yeah, yeah, yeah. So thoughts there from Ken Williams that he missed her to play call. Right, because you're running your field goal unit out. And then get back, get off there. And now the clock's running down. Crowds into it. You're trying to get everybody organized. What did he say? Oh, god. Ran the wrong play. That operation falls on the feet of the coaches. And we got to ask Coach Yber-Fluiss when he joins us at 8.20. Matt, what happened on the fourth down play? Caleb said, kicking teams coming out. You guys want to go for it. How does that get cleaned up? Fair question. The communication between his sideline and his headset is just nonexistent at times, especially in most crucial times. I just don't understand that. Correct. Got better communication on high school sidelines than what we skid with the Bears. And again, Cap, if you have a good team, you can overcome it. Got a good team. This is never talked about. But when you have a team that slips sliding away in the NFC and you have a 5-year in Blue Street, it gets magnified even more so. 3, 1, 2, 3, 2, 3, 7, 7, 6 is our phone number. Let's go. The phone lines will talk to you, the Bears fan. On this Bears Monday, the Bears lose in overtime to Minnesota by a score of 3, 2, 7 in Bolivia at 9.26 in the morning. Listing on the ESPN Chicago app here is Art on Cap and J-hood. Art, good morning. Hey, good morning. How you guys doing? Cap and J-hood. We're doing from Bolivia. Awesome, man. Congrats. Bolivia, that's our first one ever. We're always listening to you guys. We're always out here listening to all Bears fans across the world. Appreciate you. Thank you, Art. So you saw what you think. Yeah, so one thing that pissed me off, Caleb clearly looked up there, right? And towards the end of the game, I don't know if you noticed that O'Connell was just consoling Caleb. They had a pretty lengthy conversation. And the pisses me off that an NFC North rival pet coach has to be a soul here, man. I've never seen Blue ever do that. He just doesn't care. I'm just wondering what was he telling him? Was he saying, hey, hold down for another three, four years. You'll be on my roster or what? It just pissed me off that there's got to be other head coaches taking care of our quarterback. I mean, he clearly had his best game yesterday. Well, Art, let's look at it this way. And we put your telephone call. Let's look at it this way. The National Football League is a huge fraternity. It is. And so it wasn't a much consoling as much as it is. Amen, you scared us. You're pretty good. It's a shame I got to keep taking you on at least twice a year for the next decade or whatever it is, Cap. Not consoling as much as it is, just encouraging. Like, hey, man, I'm an offensive coordinator. You're a hell of a quarterback. I think that's all it is. Yeah, so Caleb spoke and you get Caleb first and foremost right here at ESPN 1000 with JMac before he deals with the rest of the media. But he was asked, what was that deep conversation? Is he a guy like him? You know, that's his offense in head coaching. His guys love him. I have a few teammates or old teammates over there that talk about him and I've talked about him. And they love him. And so when you met him at the draft and all these different things, and so when somebody comes over to you that's having guys and having Sam Donald, even out there balling, and he's been a great coach so far, I believe, and you believe, and you hear, and you know, those encouraging words are important. That's cool. Super cool. I had no issue with it. I know Art and Bolivia did, in thanks for the call. But I had no problem with that. And plus, that QB collective, the Caleb's part of, Justin was part of, Waldron was part of. I think Kevin O'Connell has history there as well. Yeah, there's a lot more things to be concerned over the Bears besides the competition coming over to hug Caleb Williams. It happens all the time. I know that the old school knuckle-dragging fans, like, you're not supposed to be able to front-nies with the other team. It doesn't matter. We lost a game. Why are they so kissy-huggy? Look, look, oh, Bradovich, it's OK. We can be able to still get along with the opposition. Yes, the Bears have to straighten out their own crap. But at the same time, though, it happens all the time. Everyone knows each other. Yeah. 100% they know each other very, very well. And he said, I never see Eberfuss do it. He's with him seven days a week, Art. I guarantee you that does a very good job at his relationship with Caleb. Yes. We can criticize the coach for a lot, not that. From Bolivia to Charlotte, North Carolina, whoo, and Harding is with us on Captain Jay Hood on the ESPN Chicago app, Harding Good Morning. Whoo, whoo, whoo. Good morning, gentlemen. Good morning. All right, hey, what's up, man? I'm really buying into-- by no means am I comparing Caleb to Patrick Mahomes, but I am buying into the idea of what it would look like had he been drafted, Patrick Mahomes, to the Bears. I love what I'm seeing from Caleb. I don't know that there's a player I would trade right now in getting rid of Caleb Williams. And you guys know I'm a huge Justin Fields fan. Huge. But Caleb looks amazing. Cerebral quarterback. Like, Caleb is immensely more talented than Justin Fields. The only thing I want you guys to admit, though, there was no way for Justin Fields to be successful here. Look at what's happening with Caleb and the skill set that he has. That throw would look like a Mario Jump sideways sling throw to Doug. The Andre Swift down to sideline. Yeah. That is insane, man. Like, there's not a lot of quarterbacks that are doing things in that nature. Co-commit has to stay on that block when the Andre Swift disengages. Like, there's no way. They have to communicate. They could talk right there on the field. I mean, I understand it's loud, but he has to stay on that block. They both can't disengage there. Caleb took a back sack there, but he needs some help, man. But nonetheless, the entire team had moments of leg and Caleb down. And he's carrying that team on his back like a Superman. And it looked impressive. That is an amazing loss. No moral victories. But Caleb looks every bit of what was so to us when we drafted that quarterback, number one. But I do want you guys to say, I'm sorry, Justin. The results of the results, if you're gone, the losses are there. Eber Glue should have been out right with you, but there's no way you could have been successful in that scenario with that franchise organization and that coaching staff. I'll talk to you guys later. - Have a great day, Harding. - Harding, thank you. So when are we supposed to admit that Justin Fields had no, yeah, he had no shot with this team. And I know that for some that are still around rooting for Justin Fields, then he should be in a beer's uniform. Even with the weapons of more Allen, Komet Adunze, Swift. Again, still issues with Justin Fields getting the ball out. I watched that game Thursday at a steakhouse in Daytona. And I was watching the big screen. I'm like, they're just got him in for a certain set of plays. I'm like, God, Lee, Justin. Like, you're probably better than that at this point in time, but he's not, like, it's just a few handful of plays that Tom Monazim out there for. And Cap, it would still be an issue with him getting the ball out. He can run with the football. But again, not having to relitigate this, Justin Fields would have a problem with this team too. - No question. He just had struggled throwing the ball in the middle of the field. He had his issues. Now, that all said, yeah, he was putting a really bad situation too. No quite two years ago, he had no chance. - No. - Yeah. - All right, Harding, we appreciate your telephone call. Now, he leaves on open for you. 3, 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 3, 7, 7, 6 is our phone number. When we return, we'll take more of your phone calls on the Bears, they lose to the Vikings. 30, 27, and overtime. It's a Bears Monday on Cap and Jay Hood. - Cap and Jay Hood are back. - And you know this, man. - Chicago's home for sports. - ESPN, Chicago. - Aaron Jones to his left, they motion a 10-N, but they give the Jones. He has tackled behind the line of scrimmage. And the ball came out after that. Demarcus Walker on the stuff, and the Bears have come up on the football. Johnathan Owens has the ball in his hands, and the Bears are celebrating in the north end of Soldier Field. What it looks like is a takeaway, the discussion underway, Aaron Jones hands on hips, waiting to hear the ruling by the officials. - Really known the field was at the football table prior to the running back thing down by contact. First down Chicago. - Bears take the ball away. A red zone takeaway of Sam Darnold. - Bears lose to the Vikings by the score. 30 to 27 and overtime. It's a Captain J. Good morning show on a ESPN 1000, and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app, we're with you till 10 o'clock, then Mike Greenberg comes in at 10. Followed by Carmen Yurco at 12. Wadland Silvia at 2.30. Coach Brown, Cap. - What can Brown do for you? - Coach Brown and the offense, and you think about the numbers, and we've quoted them already several times about Caleb Williams, it was 32 for 47, 340 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. But we're talking about 398 yards along with 27 points against the fourth ranked defense of the National Football League. We knew coming in, it would be a daunting task for this team, offensively, to take on the defense of the Vikings, 'cause they blitz like crazy, because they're so opportunistic, because they're so physical, Cap. But I would say that no moral victories, no question, there's no moral victories. However, as far as Coach Brown's concerned, the offense has a feather in his cap again, back-to-back weeks. - Yeah, you could tell the team just looks different offensively. Thomas Brown, I'm not saying he should be the head coach. I have made it clear, I want somebody who's done this job before. This is the most important hire in the history of the franchise, when they do move on from Eddie Grafloose. It will be the most important hire in the history of the franchise. You've never had a dude like this. You cannot give it to somebody who, can he hold the room accountable? Is he a leader of 53? I don't know. He's a good mind. He's that, no, I want somebody that has done the freaking job, and then I don't care what it costs, put the right staff in place. Whatever it takes, it's about, as you said, 18, period. - That's all that matters, Cap. The problem, though, is that because you want change, you're looking at the third offensive coordinator in two years, which gets you on this college of coaches thing that Jay Cutler went through as well. - Correct. - That hope is that that does not happen with Caleb Williams, but my point is, though, is that stability, as far as the coaching staff is concerned, whoever it's going to be, my hope is that it works out for the Bears because you don't want to squander a talent like Caleb Williams in what he could be offensively for the Bears. - 1,000%. So, we'll see what they end up doing. Maybe Thomas Brown makes sense as the OC for a new head guy. Like if Vrable is the guy, Jerk was talking about that with Peggy yesterday on the post-game, Mike Vrable's a leader of men now. He is an intense, hard-nosed coach who's not going to take any go from anybody. So, it may be Thomas Brown makes sense in that role, but I don't want an inexperienced guy as my head coach. I don't. - Is that what Jerk was talking about? Vrable is a new head coach for the Bears in the post-game? Do you know what she said? - Somebody called in about who would be an interesting name, and he said, "Look, I want somebody who's done this. "I would prefer an offensive coach, "but if Mike Vrable was the guy, "it would not bother him at all." Mike Vrable's a really good football coach. He's going to be in demand. - Ron Gleeson rolled over in his grave, man. He's talking about a coaching change in the post-game. - There you go. (laughing) - Oh my God, can you imagine? So, that's a new day, new station, new home for the Bears, because it's real, absolutely real. - It's real. They have a really good show. I really enjoyed it. - Yeah, three, one, two, three, two, three, seven, seven, six is our phone number. Atlantic City, New Jersey, listening on the ESPN Chicago app. Here's Greg on Captain J. Hood. Greg, good morning. - Good morning, gentlemen. Listen, what have we heard about Matt Eberfluis since he's been the coach of Chicago? The culture, all we ever heard was the culture. We've developed nothing but a culture of losing, and it emulates just throughout the whole team. I mean, the best way to sum up Matt Eberfluis is this guy snatches the beat from the jaws of victory. I mean, the lack of discipline on this team is just ridiculous. On defense and offense, I mean, the penalties are just out of control. And I don't know if you guys saw the video of George McCasky before the game started. When he's in the parking lot, talking to the fans, and the fans are telling them, "We gotta get rid of this guy." And George is telling them, "I know, I know." I mean, it's just a circle of losing, and it's just tiresome. I mean, it's time for this guy to go. I mean, it really is. We have a great core players. We just need to add to what we have on the O line, of course, as well as the defense, because we have zero passwers at all. And it's gotta change. I mean, this is just ridiculous. You shouldn't have to keep going through this year after year after year. It's just enough is enough. - All right, Greg, we appreciate your telephone call. I saw that TikTok too. I don't know if that's the question that the fan asked. I did see George, 'cause he always does stroll through the parking lot, because at his core, he's a fan, and he still talks to fans. He's not hiding, he doesn't show up in a limo cap, and then is ushered away from the fans. He still walks through, finding out the temperature of the bear fan. I don't know if that was the initial question of someone's ordered a statement, where the fan said, "You know, you gotta fire your flus." I did see George not his head in approval, like I know I know. I don't know if that was the question, but he definitely was sympathetic to the bear fan. - Yeah, I'd give him credit for doing that. Not all owners would do that. But you know what, as opposed to that, or the other owners in town do, I would like one guy to just go, "What's going on is unacceptable. We're gonna get it fixed, and all I care about is winning. I don't care what it costs." We've never had one, ever. - Nope. - You know why? Take us for granted, Cap. 'Cause we'll be back, right? - Right. - We'll be back. - That's it. It's the worst, man. It's the worst, because it's a sickness, Cap. - That's the whole thing, it's a sickness, right? - It's exactly that. - It courches through our veins from childhood. It's in our veins. - Correct. - And you wanna pull the plug as much as possible. You wanna pull that plug like no, I don't wanna take any more, but it's still there. It never goes away. - Never goes away, you know? - And then you get rewarded as a Cubs fan or a White Sox fan. - Yeah, yeah. - And you get a championship. So maybe it'll happen for our bears. - Like that satiates us. Like, yeah, you got your one, that's good enough. It's not good enough. - Little pat on the head. There you go. (laughing) It's not good enough, Cap. - Cut the budget. - Man. Where Chicago Mike is on, Cap and Jay Hood. Hey, Mike, good morning. - Good, how you guys doing? - Good, Mike. - Hey, what's up? - Not much. So in 2022, the Bears organization interviewed 10 candidates for the head coaching position before Ryan Polls had to say so. They came down to three head coaches that were potential hires. And I want to know how bad you guys think the miss is. Ryan Polls had a direct say so on the second round of interviews on these three head coaches. So I know there was a name here you guys are going to like, but we had, on the second interviews, well, Matt Iberfluz and Dan Quinn. And one of those names were the ones that Ryan Polls had to pick. And he had the direct say so. In the first round, I mean, you had, it was kind of bad. I mean, you had Doug Peterson, Brian Flores, Nathan Hackett, there was Brian DeBall in there. Brian left, Byron left, which Leslie Frazier was in there. So I just want to know how bad Brian Polls missed on the three options that he had. And is he going to get direct say so on the 10 or 12 interviews they do when Jan where it comes around? I would think that he has earned the right to pick the next head coach without interference from above him, especially ownership, who interviewed Iberfluz and some of these other ones before Ryan was ever hired. That's unconscionable to me. Ryan Pace wants Dan Quinn. Nope, we want you to hire this guy. Phil Emery, you can't fire lovey, but we fired Jerry Angelo so you can have the job a year later, you fire lovey and you hire Trestman over Arians. What are we doing here? What are we doing? Swings and misses all the time. If Ryan is the guy, and I believe he is, Ryan Pulse should say, that's my guy. Whoever that is, Ben Johnson, Mike Vrable or you, whoever he wants, he should get. And if that coach doesn't work, he'll be held accountable or should be. Captain J. Hood on a Bears Monday on ESPN 1,000. Gets the snap, again they drop eight. Caleb arching up in the pocket, rips it over the middle. Has caught Adunze, just by taking a pop in between two defenders. Bind him on the hip, have the 20, make it the 18 yard line. Make it the 19 now, Minnesota. This is Roma Dunze. You're listening to Captain J. Hood on the new home of the Chicago Bears, ESPN Chicago. Captain J. Hood on the ESPN 1,000, and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app, Caleb Williams, completion percentage. 61% the first nine games. 71% the last two. He's giving you 7.3 yards per attempt, and he is cooking offensively. But again, the Bears lose, and that's the bottom line, and they have a five game losing streak. It's all about Caleb for me. 3-1-2-3-3-2-3-7-7-6. Here's our phone number. Dallas, Texas, listening on the ESPN Chicago app. Here is Justin on Captain J. Hood. Justin, good morning. Hey, good morning. Cap hoodie. What's up there, buddy? You too. So, I'm just going to say this. We are set. We were old. What are we? Four and seven. Yeah, we were four and two. We were four and two. Yep. Say it again. We were four and two, now we're four and seven. Yeah, we were four and two. And now we're four and seven, but we're two and oh, and moral victory. And I guess that's all that matters. All we heard last year was this was going to be the season. We heard all this BS from Ryan Polls and the entire organization that this year was going to be different. I don't see any changes. We've lost two weeks in a row of a close game. And I'm sorry, I just can't subscribe to the idea of, you know, oh, at least Caleb looked good, at least this, at least that. We were doing that last year with Justin Fields. And look what happened. I'm like, I'm not glad to the fact that he's doing. He had a good day, but at the end of the day, we still lost. And it seems to me like when I hear things like that, when we were for losses again. And I thought we were past that. But it seems like we're still there. So we got to play Detroit on Thanksgiving. Hopefully we just come out of there like we even can try to compete. But who knows? But I appreciate y'all taking the call. Camp hoodie. I hope y'all have a good holiday. You too, buddy. Okay, so I don't know if that's addressed to Bears Nation or talking to us. But I can't be more clear when I say that the reason why that I watch or listen to Bears football is because of Caleb Williams, because he is the future of this football team. There's a lot of other players that could be cornerstones. There are some that are underachieving. But the bottom line is there are no moral victories in the National Football League. It's a big boy football. So I don't know if you're talking about us or talking about the Bears. But again, there has to be a reason for me to watch. And Caleb Williams is the reason for me to watch. Defense is not playing well. The special teams, all of a sudden, aren't playing well. I come on now. So that's my reason. That's my draw to watch Bears football. No moral victories, but I'm still going to watch in route for 18. 100% and I know his point, Justin. He's passionate. He wants victories. Yeah. In the end, we've got our dude. We've got our guy. Keep him healthy. Finish the season the right way and then let's see what happens. Shout out no shot in two minutes on cap and J-hood. [BLANK_AUDIO]
