Friday's parliamentary free vote on legislation to allow assisted dying in England and Wales has split East Lancashire's MPs with three intending to oppose it and one supporting the measure. Blackburn's independent MP, Adman Husain. Hindburn's Sarah Smith. And Ribble Valley's Maya Ellis. Both Labour will vote against the first reading of Spen Valley MP, Kim Ledbetter's terminally ill adults end of live bill. But Labour, Burnley MP, Oliver Ryan, will vote for it in what is a free vote, meaning party whips will not tell their MPs which way to vote. Town criers across Lancashire read out the Lancashire Day Proclamation yesterday to celebrate the historic county. Twithero, Gastang, Great Harwood, and Reed in Simmondstone were among those towns to see the proclamation read out at lunchtime. Concerns have been raised at a newly approved water bathing site as water quality was considered poor and underscored the urgent need for action. Eddy's Food Bridge in Clithero was the Ribble catchment's first designated river bathing water site earlier this year, following an application by the Ribble Rivers Trust in recognition of its popularity and potential as a site for safe water recreation. The environment charity is now appealing for action to be taken to tackle the quarters of the pollution that is affecting the river. Jack Spee, Chief Executive of Ribble Rivers Trust said Eddy's Food Bridge is a hugely valuable space for swimmers, paddlers and other water activities and he's visited by thousands of users each year.
