Friday's parliamentary free vote on legislation to allow a sister dying in England and Wales has split East Lancash's MPs, with three intending to oppose it, and one supporting the measure. Town criers across Lancashire read out the Lancashire Day Proclamation yesterday to celebrate the historic county. Twithero, Gastang, Great Harwood, and Reed and Simmons Stone were among those towns to see the proclamation read out at lunchtime, celebrating the historic boundaries of Lancashire and the day where all things Lancashire are celebrated. Lancashire Day take place every year on November the 27th, the anniversary, and when the first MPs were summoned to Parliament from Lancashire in 1295, Philip Walsh, chair of the Friends of Real Lancashire, attended the proclamation in Clithero Town Centre, where town crier of 40 years Roland Hillwood did the honours. Concerns have been raised at a newly approved water bathing site as water quality was considered poor and underscored the urgent need for action. Eddie'sford Bridge in Clithero was the Ribble catchment's first designated river bathing water site earlier this year, following an application by the Ribble River's Trust in recognition of its popularity and potential as a site for safe water recreation. The environment charity is now appealing for action to be taken to tackle the quarters of the pollution that is affecting the river. Jack Spee's Chief Executive of Ribble River's Trust said Eddie'sford Bridge is a hugely valuable space for swimmers, paddlers, and other water activities and he's visited by thousands of users each year.
