Stranded whale dies near Tai O: AFCD
A stranded whale has died near Tai O despite efforts by a team of veterinarians to help it.
A spokesman for the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) said on Sunday that veterinarians from Ocean Park had carried out an initial assessment and found that the whale was injured.
"During sedation administered for further diagnosis, the veterinarians found the whale in extremely weak condition," the spokesman said.
He said the whale subsequently died during the diagnostic procedures at around midnight.
The spokesman added that AFCD staff and Ocean Park vets will examine the carcass to determine the cause of death.
