Our final show of the week, so a little Friday activity on a Wednesday, we wanted to go to the guest hotline. Welcome on to the show. Our buddy Ben Standing was out in Ashburn today covering the commanders. He was at the Dan Quinn press conference. So Ben, why don't we start with Marshawn Lattimore listening to Quinn. I was pretty optimistic for what it's worth. I guess just the little video we got to see of him running around. He certainly doesn't seem like he's 100%. How did you see what do you think about Lattimore? Yeah, I think for Lattimore in the same thing, a little bit of Brian Robinson when we were told that they were practicing, the only ill, Quinn said which players would be out like Austin Eckler. Okay. But there is that question. Well, what does practicing actually mean full or just somewhat? And based on the limited designation, that only means they did something. I think in case of Robinson, I assume that's a pretty good sign he said as much. But for Lattimore, it's hard to know. He hasn't done anything in four weeks, give or take, since the trade and he was out for the trade with the fans. So it's positive that he's on the field. But if he's not a full participant by tomorrow, boy, I don't know, right? I mean, do not have done anything. And it's a new team, you haven't been around them, and knowing that the bi-week is after this, I'm a little more uncertain than now than when he first said he'll be practicing today. So we'll have to see. But if he's not practicing the full by tomorrow, I definitely question him to play on Sunday. Is any of this surprising? In other words, like we knew he was banged up. We knew he had a hamstring. And now we know we knew right away it wasn't a Devonta Adams hamstring that was cured with the plane flight. So I understand, but like, is anybody taken aback or is anybody kind of going, hey, this is worse than we thought? I mean, I know they're so tight-lipped about stuff, but I would love to know that this was all by design and it was planned and they knew what they were getting instead of being gravely disappointed he couldn't play against Philadelphia or Dallas. Yeah, I mean, I don't know exactly what their expectations were. After he missed, I think the first two games coincided that this was not a surprise. I'd heard that the Saints had expectations after there had been no trade that he would have been back like within like, say, two weeks after that, the trade kind of deal. So this has gone on a bit longer. Of course, it's maybe the fact that they had the whole short week with the Eagles, maybe that, you know, messed things up to some degree. But yeah, it's a little, you know, I don't know exactly what they're thinking. But yeah, I mean, it seems like it's going longer than any of us anticipated. Now, I will say, like I had somebody, you know, kind of a couple of people like asked me, well, why would you make this trade for a guy that's hurt? Well, like Adam Peters made this trade. I would almost bet more for the long term than just the short term. You know, I don't think they weren't looking to make a rental. They were looking for something bigger picture in Lattimore fit to build 28. He's under contract the next two years and one less position there to worry about next offseason when half the roster is going to be free agents and that type of stuff. But yeah, obviously it's getting to the point now that what's going on here, especially when it's, you know, there's a three game losing streak and not that he alone is going to necessarily change that, but it brought him in obviously for a reason. Yeah, totally agree with you. This trade made a lot of sense at the time and still does based on the next two years and whatever you get this season on into the postseason, if they make the playoffs is going to be a bonus and a third opportunity at a postseason with him. You can't stand it because of the athletic joining us on Grant and Danny. You mentioned Brian Robinson and kind of where we're at on that. Do you disagree with my take? I would shut him down. I wouldn't ask him to practice. I wouldn't ask him to try to play. I would give him this week. I have the buy week next week and over those two weeks, I would try to get him right for a four game stretch because I've seen him twice now play in games where he couldn't play in the second half. We've seen him try to go all week long and then not be able to play on a Sunday kind of by surprise. I think they need to just get this guy some rest. Well, this is where, you know, I've been saying all along that this season is really about the future. It's not necessarily about this year. And then they went seven and two and all of a sudden the goal shifted. So I think the problem is if they had one, just even one game of the last three, I think what you're saying would work. The problem is like, you know, there's other teams that have to catch them, but you know, the Cardinals are right now, only a half game behind Washington ignore the tiebreaker aspect for now because we'll see what happens. But like, you know, like if they lose this week and the Cardinals win, they are suddenly not even in a wild card spot. And you know, I think it is just some degree of, you know, an all hand don't deck game. I don't want to say it's a must win. I think I got to win this game. You're going to a buy week that possibly losing four in a row and sure, the last four games are some winnable ones there, but I don't know what, I don't know what's winnable right now when they've used to lose the Dallas and they just saw four in a row. So while it's holding it, what you're saying, and the fact that Echler, I can't imagine is going to play after the concussion his second of the year, which would leave you with Chris Rodriguez and Jeremy McNichols. I kind of feel like Robin's got to play your points valid. Absolutely. But I think they had to have won one of these last three if we're just talking about the playoffs for them to feel pretty good about it. Does the offense get right this week? Well, you know, that's the thing, right? You look at Tennessee like three and eight, just immediately chalk them up as like a bad team, except they've got one of the statistically best defenses in the league. Like they've got legit players, you know, the Will Levis has just been very up and down for them, a young quarterback, and you've had a lot of turnovers and things like that. So, I would like to say yes, but this goes also to the point of not having, you know, where we at Brian Robinson, for all the talk we've had the last few weeks about Jayden Daniels, has it been heard, has it been heard, has it been heard? I really kind of think the X factor is when Brian Robinson's out, they completely are more, it's more one dimensional because they don't really have a real running game when he's not in there. Ecker can do some things, but you know, you know, more is less with Ecker. I think, you know, in terms of the touches and snaps. They certainly do too because even when Robinson's out, they don't treat him like he's a bell cow. Right. So, you take away that, and now all of a sudden, you know, Jayden Daniels is like, you can't really do the read options, right, because nobody's going to buy the running back threat or care. So, I'd like to tell you yes, and clearly they're motivated, you know, they're all talking about it over there, you know, with, I mean, of course they talk about every week, but I mean, you know, they're even saying, hey, I think there's even more of a sense of urgency to figure this out. And you know, I'm not one of those people who's harping on this notion of King's various offenses, regressing, and I think there's, you know, you got to look at the whole context, but this is a tough defense that they're facing, and you know, if they're not, if they don't have all their horses, again, they probably won't with Ecker at least, but that's a lesser issue. If they don't have Robinson, or, you know, we'll see what's going on with Andrew Wiley because if it's not Andrew Wiley, then what? Is it Trent Scott? I mean, Corny, this Lucas hasn't played in a few weeks, so, you know, if you're telling me it's Trent Scott, and no, you know, limited or nobleman Robinson, all of a sudden, that's going to be tough. So I can't tell you that, Danny, that this is the week I thought last week of the week, and this is a much tougher defense. Ben Austin, cyber came back, missed two extra points. A field goal had some kickoff snafus and now he's on injured reserve. Was he still hurt? Does that what that means or what is that about? So you have a hip injury, right, and Quinn today said that on Monday, cyber told them, "Hey, my groin is acting up," or whatever he said. So he went on the injured list because of a groin. I'll give you conspiracy theory here because that's what it's fun to do sometimes. Look, he may be very well hurt, I don't know, but you certainly couldn't come out and say he was hurt because of the hip. When Quinn gets clobbered for playing a guy who had another kicker here, you didn't have to. Secondly, though, I don't know, I don't think they wanted to flat out cut him. I mean, he has been very good this year. He's been one of the bright spots that, you know, he helps solve their kicking woes right off the bat. 70 field goals in the first game, right, to all the points they had and it kind of kept going from air until the injury. So this feels like a way that sort of, you know, let him rest up, move him out of the way and maybe build up confidence, both him as well as the team in him, if that makes sense. So I don't know, if he's really hurt, he's really hurt, but you definitely couldn't come out and say it was the hip because that would have just been, you know, stupid or not. That would have just been like people screaming and yelling, what the hell, why did you do that? And by the way, he kicked the 51 yarder with like 70, you know, like a minute or so to go. So was he hurt before the 51 yarder to get hurt on the 51 yarder? Yeah, so I have questions, but it is what it is. He's kicking off at the end of that game. And they're like counting, you know, they're asking him to do something fairly complicated, which is, you know, landed in the zone, but bounced it in front of him and pinball around. Like they clearly had confidence in him at the end of the game. Well, right, right, and I think I kind of think like this is not to the point of is he actually hurt, but like, you know, when Dan Quinn said, and you were there when he said this that like, hey, he was asked about the kickoff, you know, why not just kick it out of the end? And he said, well, look, it's a lot harder to do than you think. So I looked this up and I wrote a, I guess I wrote about it for something that will come up later this week, but so far this year, there have been 39 kickers who have attempted at least 15 kick offs of those 34 have a 50% touchback rate, meaning, you know, half the time they're getting the other thing to do a touchback. Often cyber of the third down is dead last at 23%. And we already know his, the leg strength has been sort of the biggest question with him in general. He's been pretty accurate, but, you know, 55 plus yarders, that's not really going to be his bag. So at least we wonder, well, when Dan Quinn says that, is that because he doesn't think cyber can really do it. And even before this year, his career percentages of touchbacks were pretty low. I asked Quinn today, he said, you know, we're comfortable kicking the ball and letting our coverage group make the plays and largely they have done that this year. But Turpin, it wasn't just the 99 yarder, he had another one that went over 30. He had another one that went like 28. So they clearly should have known that this guy's a major weapon, but I don't think they thought they had a kicker who could kick out of the end zone. Meanwhile, Zang Gonzalez for his career is a 57% touchback rate. So they would have that option more likely with him, put it all together and it's kind of why I think they were maybe looking for a way to move on from cyber again. Maybe it was generally hurt, but I could imagine, you know, there might be other reasons to decide to give them a break right now. So Ben and Ben standing of the athletic with this year on G and D, you said you're not one of those guys harping on the Kingsbury regression or phone off the cliff or whatever. I am. I think this is so real. I think everyone's figured it out. Now guys can't really separate and they can't win on one on one. That's a talent part. But to me, it's I test plus some of the, some of the data numbers are screaming a story to me, going back to Texas tech and then even in Arizona, why are you not harping on it out of curiosity? Yeah. So this is a story that I have up today about this and I didn't do a deep dive on his Texas tech or cardinals years. And that's part of my point with this. If you're just going to show me a record when he's the head coach, I get it. But if you go look, they're deep and his defenses were terrible every single year. This scene would score in the thirties and 40 sometimes and still lose later in the year with the Cardinals. Right? The last two years, Tyler Murray is hurt, the Andre Hopkins is hurt at times. What was the big deal with Tyler Murray at the end? That like the Arizona ownership was like, hey, we need to like put a clause if you do actual like homework or whatever. So I don't know exactly what was going on over there. But it's harder for me to say that everything was just because Kingsbury's offense fell apart, but here he's not the head coach. He's only the offensive coordinator. And you know, again, I just think realistically. Let me just jump. I'm sorry, Ben. I'm going to jump in real quick. I want to redirect just to say it's the record is stupid. That's not a thing. Right. And I, I agree. People are saying that and it's dumb. The offensive numbers crater massively. And he called the plays and was the coordinator in the, in the head coach, right? So I mean, to me, the record part of it who cares, but the offensive numbers every year fall off and I get you can explain some of that away with Murray, but I would say maybe that's a thing too that in both of these stops with these mobile quarterbacks, they have been banged up in the offense, falls off because they're hurt as the year goes on. Right. I mean, like in terms of like the Texas tech stuff, again, you'd have to go look every year. But I think in general, we would probably say Texas tech is not a dominant team in the big 12. Maybe they were when Mike Leach was coaching, but generally speaking, they're not Oklahoma. They're not Texas. Well, sure enough, they lose to those teams and those teams are playing in the second half of the year. They're playing some non-conference stuff or whatever. And like I said, Tyler Murray in 2021, he got hurt the second half of, oh no, 2022, he got hurt the second half of the year, maybe both of those, you know, 2021, he got hurt 22. I don't know. Whatever. Both points. He got her 22 bank. He tells. Yeah. He had put along that. Twenty two. Yeah. Twenty one. Yeah. It's in the article you could see. Meaning that he missed a bunch of, of, look, I'm not absolving Cliff Kingsbury, but like I said, context matters and I don't think we all have it. But, but again, just to use this season as that example, when people talk about regression, I think it's almost insane because look what he's, well, look what he's working with. What's really notable is that he got this team to seven and two setting records, like the other wider receivers, the other receiving targets besides Terry McCorran, a guy in Noah Brown, who was caught by another team before week one, a guy in the key is who had ten catches last year, a guy in the Ammi Brown who like, what do you have, twenty nine catches in the first three years. We saw that story. A rookie third round pick in McCaffrey, who was, who's always been playing receiver for two years, his best tight end is a guy in Zach Urch, who's reliable with his hands. But like, you know, he can't move at all the starting left tackle of the rotation between a third round rookie who clearly needs help and a guy who's with a backup his whole career. And I think we can discuss why that's the case, but that's the case, right? And when Brian Roberts comes out, he's missed three games and left early twice into other games. Again, they don't have a, the running game goes away. So I, I just think that like in the context of the whole thing, I really have a hard time putting all this on Kingsbury. I just think he did. And also, but I don't think that is because I agree with your points are very good. When they were killing it, he got the credit, right? And deservedly so. But I guess my point is like it shouldn't it go both ways? Like when they're bad, now it's the players aren't good enough. When they were good, we weren't saying the players are awesome. Noah Brown wasn't suddenly a number two wide receiver. The Ami Brown torches, the Browns or whatever team that was the Panthers for the long touchdown. We weren't suddenly going, the Amis really coming on. It was Kingsbury's scheming them up and is getting them open and it's working and he's getting all that credit. And now when it goes badly, well, the players just aren't good enough. Like, I think there's got to be some, some, it's got to go both ways. Sure. Well, and again, this is where it's complicated, right? I vividly remember, but one of my big takeaways from this summer was when talking to Kingsbury and Joe Witt about what they were going to do, they were like, well, we're not going to tell you anything because that's what we do. But we were also not going to tell you anything because the biggest advantage we have right now is being unknown. Cliff was away for a year. Is he going to make changes? I mean, he has. He has done some different things, maybe not, maybe not leaving his best receiver on the left side. Maybe that's still a thing. But he has made changes based on the personnel and what was there, et cetera. So they did have the element of the unknown. I think to me that combined with, you know, look, even if half the roster was new, we all know there was a breath of fresh air out there because of the, you know, this is the first year where the ownership change really mattered, but Dan Quinn got all these guys to buy in. And I think there was an extra level of energy and camaraderie, but that only takes you so far. At some point the talent is going to win out and it's going that way now. Like I said, I'm not going to say that Kingsbury, whatever you have, your job is to win, right? So he's not, that's not happening at the moment for whatever the reason. So sure, of course, they all should be getting dinged for that. But it's just like, you know, I didn't have a hard time saying that just simply based on what I'm hearing about this year with nobody acknowledging that they don't have a very good roster. It's a great point. You guys are just in general. It's a great point. And like, then I know that then maybe that's happening every year, like with his rep. So that's the thing that gets tricky. But look, last week was an abomination, right? And we can be honest, like they, they, I don't know how they lost that game, maybe especially with Dallas, trying to give it away and the offense can only score three points. You know, it is what it is. But when you take Brian Robinson off the field, suddenly they have no running game. And I think a lot of, you know, I think circumstances over there, more than people think. But at the same time, I, when you look at the data, it is a trend and you're like, okay, what is going on here? Ben, great as always, buddy. Have a thanksgiving, pal. Thank you. I would appreciate it. I love it, Ben, standing, awesome job on the show. Read the athletic. That is where he applies his trade. We're granting Danny here on the fan. All right. Derek, scoreboard, it is a scoreboard that's friendly to me, I'll say. Very friendly to you. You are leading the way through 12 weeks with 120 points, a record of 32 and 23 and picks. What a season has been for you, Grant Paulson moving on second place, Danny Ruye is in second place. Hi everybody, 102 points, a record of 34 and 28 and picks. Ryan's in third place with 101 points, only trails by one from Danny. He has a record of 31 and 24 like different number of games throughout there. I know it's at the point of the story, the point is the points, but somebody messed up somewhere in terms of tallies. I love people's records. All right. I'm just now realizing that. Yeah. I'll go back and do the math. That's out of the way. And then bring up the rear with only 85 points. That's a 16 point deficit if you aren't counting properly at home is the producer here of the granddanny show, Daris Danmer. My guy. I love you. This is a tradition. I'm like any other. I mean, Daris, it's a struggle in confidence points, picks for you. I don't know what to say anymore. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't see any more crowdsource. Crowdsource your picks for a week. Well, I actually, yeah, actually my a couple of my picks I've gotten from my guy to buy us all ties with here. So let's see if it works out. We're just going to. We're going to shoot our shot. All right. So let's just go through our top two rounds. And then again, we'll post these. We'll get the graphic on Facebook and over the weekend, I'll post them at Grand H. Paul Sinette Funnydanny. All right. So let's start with our five point place. I'm going to go with the Houston Texans minus four and a half. Those of you that aren't into the gambling on football, that means they've got a win by five points in this football game. And I think that they will. And the Jacksonville Jaguars and the AFC South, that's a bad Jacksonville team. Houston's coming off of a loss. They're going to be salty. Should not have lost the Tennessee. That's a good team. They're not going to lose two straight teams times to bad team. So Houston wins by five or more. I think they roll. I had it. Took it off my board. I just don't quite trust Houston. I think that's what happens. But I don't have it here. I think I'm the only person that's got this play. Give me Tampa Bay minus five and a half. I'm a Tampa Bay believer now that they're healthier, AK Mike Evans couple other guys. When they play Carolina, Carolina's had their couple of good games. Let's get back to the regular schedule of them being terrible. I think Tampa rolls. I'm going my five point play of the Packers minus three and a half. They have the dolphins coming into town in a short week. The dolphins do not play well in cold weather. I'm going to take a gamble here and say it's going to be cold up North and green Bay. So have you seen the weather? It's supposed to be 84 degrees. I'm sure. I'm so sure. I'm so sure. What over the weather guy? Yes. Weather guy. Packers minus three and a half going against the dolphins. All right, this pick is this is courtesy of my guys bias all ties who just walked into the studio here. We're shooting from deep Las Vegas. I got them covering this 12 and a half on black Friday against the chiefs. The chiefs. The chiefs don't put teams away. The chiefs let teams hang around and they played the Raiders early this year and it was a seven point game. I have. Why not? I'm shooting my shot. Five points. Las Vegas covering 12 and a half. I love it. The chiefs never cover big numbers. I can't trust the Raiders enough to go five point play because they stink. It's lower down the board for me, but I also have that play a four point play. I've got the Rams minus two and a half. They played Philly closer than the score would indicate on prime time Sunday night football. It is a bit of a short week because of the late game on Sunday, but I think they're playing for their season in New Orleans. They're at the Saints. Saints are off of a buy. I believe they've been playing better with an interim head coach now after firing Dennis Allen, but the Saints after a buy with a lost season. I think maybe a little lackadaisical early. The Rams, as I said, if they win still in the hunt and their division still in the hunt in the wild card, so their seasons on the line in a lot of ways, I'll go Rams by a field goal. Give it to Troy. It's a big number tomorrow, but I think Chicago's had their dead cat bounce. It's adorable. You're playing slightly better. You're now leveling up all the way up when Detroit plays. They win by 18 or 46. They are nasty. They are awesome. They're going to put on a spectacle. There'll be 17,000 trick plays, lineman will throw to punters. Guys will come out of the stands and be pretending to sell popcorn and they'll run for a touchdown. It's going to be a bludgeoning Detroit Danny did not have that on my menu entering night, but I have Seattle minus one and a half going against the jets. This is a sneaky revenge game for Gino Smith going against the jets. There are a dumpster fire right now. I think Woody Johnson is going to be under fire. He has been over the last week. It's just kind of screams as if the Seahawks blow them out in New York. I've got Gino Smith having a big day against that jets defense. This one for me is one of those wise vegas favoring the the Bengals against the Steelers. The Bengals are favored minus two and a half against Pittsburgh. I got Pittsburgh covering that two and a half. I just don't see how Cincinnati's defense is going to stop Russell Wilson in game death. Taxes Mike Tomlin getting points absolutely when you're not care when they're an underdog you roll with Pittsburgh. All right. You want the full lay of the land on our confidence points picks, it'll be available at Facebook.com/grantondanny right now caller number 10 at 800-636-1067.
