This is the Evil Never Dies podcast with Bretton Carl. This podcast may contain adult themes, violence and strong language. Listener discretion is advised. [Music] [Music] [Music] Welcome back to the Evil Never Dies podcast episode 301. Wow. One more than one and Brett's entire computer died over the weekend. Right in the middle about to record shows Brett's computer took a shit. Yeah. Yeah. Now here we are on a Sunday evening and I don't even want to be here. I still haven't got all the bugs worked out yet. So when I switch screens here if you're watching, I'm going to get bright and dark and bright and dark so. Yeah. He's never, he bought a Mac. He's not a Mac user so he's still learning things. Yeah. I'm sort of worried. I'm still working on this fucking exit out on the left bullshit there. Because I told you it's exact opposite of Windows because Windows ripped off Apple. So Apple, Apple shit's right and Windows shit is backwards. Everything you think is backwards is actually right. Yeah. Yeah. Because they stole this from Steve Jobs. They stole it from him. Well, I didn't know too when I hooked it up. If I had my phone memory, it was just going to take everything off my phone and put on there too. You don't do that. Yeah. It was like damn. You know, some shit I wanted on here, but not everything. So. But anyway, we're back up and rolling for now. For now. And tonight we are going to do probably one of my favorite horror movies ever. No, I did not know that when I mentioned it. It's one of my favorites. It's probably in my top 20 for sure. We're doing the original Nightmare on Elm Street. We are. And I think I've talked a lot of crap because the sequels all suck except for part three. And it ruined the whole movie for me almost, so. I'm glad to go back to it and just not think about all them damn sequels. Yep. It was refreshing. All right. Here we go. Nightmare on Elm Street. Directed by Wes Craven and written by Wes Craven. Produced by Robert Shea. I might knock something over over here. Cinematography. Pumpkinhead, Phil. Pumpkinhead, Phil. Look at that. Oh, no. Hell. Damn. Keep going. That scared me. I didn't know what Phil is. Pumpkinhead. Cinematography by Jacques Hatkin. Edited by Patrick McMahon and Rick Shane. Music by Charles Bernstein. Awesome score on this too, by the way. Production companies. New line cinema, medium home, home media, home entertainment and smart egg pictures. Distributed by New Line Cinema. And it was released on November 9, 1994, limited release. And then. 84. 84. I'm sorry. That was a limited release date. And then a week later. They released it on November 16, 1984 nationwide in the U.S. Has a running time of 91 minutes, which it actually seems a little longer than that to me. It does go long, but not in a bad sort of way. No. That country of origin, United States English language. Budget was $1.8 million. And guess how much it made at the box office there, Carl? I don't remember. I would have been able to tell you Friday night, but since this is Sunday evening, I don't have any clue. I knew all this Friday night, but my head hurts and I can't think. 57.1 million. And I think they made like $3 million in the opening weekend. So they made their budget back, almost doubled their budget in the opening weekend. And I do note that this is the New Line Cinema that was still an independent film company that mostly distributed films. Yeah, exactly. They would end up getting bought out by Warner Brothers who ruined New Line forever. New Line put out those Lord of the Ring movies supposedly, but it was actually just Warner Brothers. Yeah. New Line Cinema, the house that Freddie built. Yep. And the house that Warner Brothers destroyed. Yep. Freddie saved them from going back. They were about ready to go bankrupt. They like to use like the rest of their money. They did. Yeah. And it was this to put towards the movie and they were hoping for a big return and they got it. All right, Carl, why don't you give the plot of this film? Well, we start out with, I guess, this girl named Tina in a dream, right? Yeah. She's suffering nightmares and being chased by a weird dude with a hat. And a blade glove on his hand in a boiler room. So she wakes up from one dream after screaming and her mother points out that she's been slashed on her night down. So it appears like this Tina Gray is going to be the star of the movie. So we eventually meet her best friend Nancy and hit her boyfriend, whose name is Johnny Depp. That's right. This is this first movie and she her really creepy boyfriend. I forget. I think his name was Glenn. Yeah. He's sort of. No, Glenn. Glenn is Johnny. Okay. I don't know what her boyfriend's name was, but he was like this biker bad boy top. So they all all at school decide they're all having weird dreams. Because his name was Rod. I just remember Tina and Nancy and Freddie. That's about it. But they all decide they're all having these weird dreams. So they're whatever Johnny Depp's name is and Nancy have a sleepover. Johnny Depp is like this really goody two shoes guy in the movie. He's not looking for sex or nothing like these others. So they keep him over and unfortunately during the night, the bad boy boyfriend shows up. And as they're having sex, they go to sleep. She starts dreaming of this disfigured man with the glove. And in the dream, he kills her. Very bloody. Very bloody. And the man turns out to be Fred Kruger. And all kinds of chaos ensues and Nancy's dad turns out to be like the local police lieutenant. It just goes, goes bad from there. The day after her best friends killed, she goes to school and she starts dreaming of Fred Kruger as well. And Fred Kruger, they don't call him Freddie much in this. They just call him Fred. Yep. I think that fits better. He just goes nuts on these Elm Street kids. And that's the general synopsis of a nightmare on Elm Street. Nightmare. It was a nightmare. People never seem to remember the a part of the movie. Yep. All right. Let's go over the cast here. We need to because I don't know any of the character's names, even though I've seen this movie 50,000 times, I haven't called my guy Johnny Depp. I thought Glenn was Johnny, I thought Glenn was the boyfriend of the Tina chick. No. No, fuck, I don't know. First off, we got Heather Langenkamp as Nancy Thompson, Robert England as Fred Kruger, Johnny Depp as Glenn Lance, Ronnie Blakely as Marge Thompson. That's Nancy's mother. She was weird. I didn't care for her as an actress or as a person. John Saxon as Lieutenant Don Thompson and that's Nancy's father. He was the most known actor in the entire movie. Yep. Amanda Wise as Christina Tina Gray. Nick Corey as Rod Lane. That's the birth, the boyfriend. Okay, that sounds like a city loser name. Leslie Hoffman as Hallguard. Joseph Whipp is Sergeant Parker. Charles Fleischer is Dr. King. Lynn Shea is the high school teacher. Lynn Shea. Lynn Shea, we just did a movie a couple weeks ago that she was in. I have no idea. She was in. What do you call it? We just did. Yeah. What do you call it? We just did. That one. Insidious. She was an insidious. She was the like psychic medium or whatever. And she's also been in what was that bowling movie? I think I said the bowling movie. Huh? And a bowling movie. Bowling movie. The bowling. Oh, yeah. I mean, you talked about that when we did the movie. I can't ever remember the name of that. Bowling for dollars. All right. Next we got Mimi Craven as nurse. I wonder if she's related to Wes Craven. Yes. That is why for daughter. Family member. Family member. Okay. Jack Shea is a minister. Ed Call as Mr. Lance. Sandy. Is related to George and Damon Call. Sandy Lipton as Mrs. Lance, David Andrew as the foreman. Jeff Levine as the coroner, Donna Woodrum as Mrs. Gray. Paul Grenier as Mrs. Gray's boyfriend. That was a fucked up scene. Cash Adams as Don Hannah, Shoshani Hall, Brian Reese, and Carol Pritkin as cops, Kathy Gibbs, John Richard Peterson, Chris Tashima, and Tonya Yanuli as kids, uncredited. Oh, we're even crediting them. Well, I guess they're credited now. We credited them. Oh, I'm tired of crediting. People. Robert Shea has two uncredited roles as broadcasters for local television news, KR/GR radio station and KR/BR radio station. Makeup artist David V Miller designed Kruger's disfigured face based on photographs of burn victims obtained at the UCLA Medical Center. This is true. He had different mock-ups before they decided to go with the look they had. Yep. All right. Do you have the 4K of this? I'm pretty sure you probably do. Actually, I just got it when we decided to do Elm Street. I went ahead and ordered it. So I've only had it for like a few days. It's really cool cover. It's got that non-glossy, whatever you call that look to it. The back is, you know, and, yeah, it's a good, it's an okay 4K also. I'll just put it at that. It's got two commentary tracks, ones with Wes Craven and John Saxton and Heather Lanning Cap. And the other one has got Robert Englund. So I don't know why they couldn't get together and do one, but they did not. It's got the three featurettes, which I think have been around since the beginning of Frickin' CR, VHS, the Makin' of Elm Street, and the origins of Wes Craven's nightmares, which I don't know why that was on this disc. And of course, the infamous house that Freddy built talking about New Line Cinema. So all I have for the Elm Streets is this stupid DVD said, I used to have a real cool, this is Blu-ray, not DVD, I had a real cool box that was DVDs. But you know, when I was doing my DVD purge and moving to Blu-ray, this is what I ended up with, and it's really a crappy set. I mean, Elm Streets on one disc, part two and three is on a disc, so you know how they do this double movement and other stuff. So the Blu-rays are pretty crappy. I wish they would release part three on 4K, but we'll see, they have not been doing that here lately, they've just been doing the main movies. It looks okay on 4K, I wouldn't give it a… Does that put out from Scream Factory or? No, this is actually from Warner Brothers, AK, New Line, which is weird because you usually Warner Brothers pots everything out to Scream Factory. It's not the best 4K picture I've seen, it probably looks a little better than the DVD. The best part of it was it came with a 4K digital copy, so now I'll have it on, you know, it was movies anywhere, so it'll go to all of my things. So I'll probably want to watch this disc again, I'll just keep it on 4K on digital, and I'll have this thing as the backup, but I don't know that I'd recommend going out and buying the 4K of it, I don't think you'll see a huge difference, but I got it anyway. I think I got the…I think I bought the Blu-ray back a long time ago when it first came out. These are cheap, you can get this for like 20 bucks with all…what is it, seven movies in it? Huh. Now that…but I didn't…didn't add, this actually has an uncut version of Elm Street, which I don't think I've ever seen before, it didn't even know it existed. Really? This got extra gore, that's all…it doesn't change any storyline, but Wes Craven said that on one of the…on one of the feature ads that they had to cut out a lot of the…when she falls into the bed and the blood splatters everywhere, they made them cut that out, most of it, so he…I guess they re-added that back in on this uncut version, and a couple other of gore scenes, they made them kick out, so… Well, there was a lot… It was probably worth it for that…it might be worth it for that. So did you watch the uncut version then or…? Yeah, I didn't notice a big difference, but I'm sure it's there. Now do note that they're getting to where these 4Ks are not coming with Blu-rays anymore, they figure if you don't have a 4K player by now, then, you know, screw you. So it didn't even come with a Blu-ray then, huh? They're no longer doing that, just like…I remember when Blu-rays first come out, they would always give you a DVD with it, and they're stopping. It's just 4K and a digital copy now, and they're getting so expensive the 4K releases, they're not getting cheaper, they're getting higher. Really? It's getting a ridiculously high. I mean, even as a collector, I just…I had a hard time pulling the trigger on this one, but I don't know. Like I said, it's not a very good upgraded picture. It looks good. I mean, I noticed on Heather Lanning camp, I can't say her name's face, you could see some blemishes, which I've never noticed before, so I guess it's definitely an upgrade. It just wasn't that noticeable. But the uncut version, yeah, that's pretty cool. You can get it on Voodoo, I believe, or whatever they call Voodoo now, if you're interested in that. Oh, Fandango. So, that's my analysis. The Blu-ray set is really crappy. The 4K is a little bit of an upgrade, but you only get the first movie. And honestly, you only need the first movie in probably part 3. And maybe that Wes Kramans new nightmare. I think I've said before, I enjoy that one. Yeah, that's not bad, so… They're kind of a bookend. It's like a trilogy, if you watch them in that order. Part 1, Part 3, and then the Part 7. That's the proper way to watch the Elm Streets and skip all of the rest of them ugly ass sequels. I know. Part 2 is the worst, I think. Part 2 is the worst. No, Part 5 was the worst. Yeah, it was… Part 5 is one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my entire life. It is absolutely… I can't describe how terrible that movie is. The one where Freddy was like a comedian through the whole thing. Well, it's called the Dream Child. One of the girls, I think, I don't know, they change the actresses like twice on this one character. I don't know why they just didn't kill the character and bring in a new one, like they did normally, but Part 5 has got to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I would say it's as bad as that damn Dracula… What's the name of the… Yeah, I cannot stand Elm Street 5. I've only seen it twice in my life once to the theatre, and I think for some god reason, I rented it when it came out on video just to see if it was as bad as I thought it was. You weren't punished enough seeing it in the theatre, huh? It was… It's awful. It's god awful. Oh, hell. Pumpkinhead fell again. Oh, no. Pumpkinhead's legs… Pumpkinhead keep falling. His legs ain't working. But yeah, Part 5 has got to be one of the worst movies in the history of horror movies, period. I might watch it just to see how fucked up it is. Go for it. All right, well, I guess we'll go into some trivia here. In the original script, Freddy was supposed to be a child molester, however, the decisions were made to change him into being a child murderer to avoid accusations of exploiting a series of child molestations in California around the time of production. He was rewritten as a child molester in the 2000 remake starring Jackie Earl Haley. Yeah, why would a child molester need a glove for? I have to do my eyes because you're so bright. It's making me make your eyes hurt. Yeah, I went into bright mode. Yeah, dude, it's bright. It's bright. Oh, well, what are you going to do? Heather Langenkamp beat over 200 actresses for the role of Nancy Thompson, among them Jennifer Gray, Demi Moore, Courtney Cox, Tracy Gold and Claudia Wells. What do you think of any of them people being in it? Terrible. She was made for this role, and I'm going to say this is one of the best acting jobs I've seen in any horror movie. I thought she was absolutely phenomenal. She played the role perfectly. Johnny Depp too. They both kind of played just your innocent 80s teenagers, which did exist back then. Yeah, she was great. And she's just cute as a button too. She's still a very, very beautiful lady in her. She does the, she does the con scene too. Yeah, so she's still out there. She was born for this role. Let's see here. All the boiler room footage in the film was shot in the basement of the Lincoln Heights Jail in Los Angeles, which was condemned shortly after production wrap due to high levels of asbestos. Yeah. Russ Craven couldn't find a creepy boiler until they found that one. Like we said, the budget was $1.8 million to produce, which only 57,000 was reserved for the special effects. Effects designer Jim Doyle accepted anyway, because he was desperate for work. The movie made its entire budget back, and it's opening weekend like we talked about earlier. So they did all that special effects for 57 grand. So, well, you know, 57 grand wouldn't get you shit nowadays. No, it would not. Freddy Krueger is actually drawn from West Craven when he was a kid. Yeah. I guess he saw an old man walking down the street one night, and the man was like staring at him and startled him to death. So that sort of served as his influence for Freddy. And I guess when he was a kid, there was a bully named Fred Krueger or something like that, that was bullying him. So that's how it came up with the name. They did a paper route together. That's okay. And he used some kind of a Fred name and then last house on the left, I believe. Yep, Krug. Krug. Yeah, that's it Krug. So that Fred Krueger kid really made an impact on West Craven's life. Exactly. Exactly. I just thought that was kind of funny that I guess that fedora that Freddy wore that old man was wearing it as well. So crazy. Got a feeling that I think I've even heard that this was the movie that West Craven wanted to make from the get-go. He just never got the chance until last house on the left was successful. And he got the finally. He'll have eyes. And he did the hills have eyes. I was in a big head. I don't remember. I know last house on the left was, well, I guess it's big enough to do a sequel. So it must have been a big head. I don't remember when we discussed that what we said. He also did Swamp Thing, I believe. Yeah. Yeah. Because Swamp Thing got fucked up because there was like a nude scene in it. It was like a rated PG movie and they released it with a nude scene on accident. Now, how does that happen? I don't know. So he had a little bit of a pretty good little amount of success and was finally able to get Elm Street done. Although every movie studio turned him down. Nobody wanted to make this. Exactly. I'm still in your trivia here. And then when everybody did finally, when they finally did find a new line, all the backers kept backing out. Yeah. I guess some Yugoslavia guy put up a bunch of money and he because he wanted his girlfriend to be in the movies. That's funny. And he put up like 60% of the money and never heard about her. So, no. Well, I think Disney was talking about doing it, but they wanted to make it a family-friendly movie. What? Yes. Because Swamp Thing was a Disney production, I believe. So, you had a connection there. And Universal or Paramount or one of them wanted to do it, but they turned it down because of the movie Dreamscape. You remember Dreamscape? Yeah. They thought it was too similar to that and they didn't want to put two movies. Nothing like it. Well, it was about dreams. So if you're, I want to say it was Paramount, it might have been Columbia. I don't know. Whoever it was, they didn't want to put two dream movies out in the same year. So they turned them down as well. So, it did not get a good... Hollywood was not interested in doing this. And like you said, new lines stood up to the thing. And I think that media home entertainment, didn't they play a role in it as well? Yep. I think they've been long since bankrupting. They're probably a part of Lionsgate now, like everybody else is. If you go bankrupt and you made movies in the 80s, you're probably owned by Lionsgate now. But I remember media home entertainment. They put out a lot of good stuff in the day. Okay. Now you can go back to your trivia. I've stepped on your feet enough. Wes Craven's original concept for Freddy Krueger was considerably more gruesome with teeth showing through the flesh over his jaw, pus running from the sores and a part of his skull showing through the head. Shit, that looks like sounds like the Bubba mask. Yeah, no shit. David B Miller argued that an actor couldn't be convincingly made up that way and a puppet would be hard to film and wouldn't blend well with live actors. So these ideas were eventually scrapped. I think you look fine the way he was. Yeah, I agree. He was freaky looking when this first came out. He was like freaky looking, dude. Tripped me out. Because I think I seen this opening night when it came out, dude. I did not. I didn't even know this movie existed until part two came out. Oh, really? No, I did not. I did somehow slip. No, this was 84. I sort of slipped past me. And when part two came out, I'm like, well, hell, what did I miss? Well, I remember we waited on street in its first run. We waited in about a two, three block line to see this movie when I went and seen it. It was that they advertised it a lot. Yeah, but I was it somehow escaped me being in the year of 1984. Remember, I wasn't able to go to our rated movies by myself just yet anyway. So I didn't get that luxury until 86 87. So but yeah, I did not even know the movie existed until part two came out. That's when I found I think I might have seen the original on HBO maybe. Maybe yeah, but they played it a lot on there too. All right, the original glove was later used in part two. And was also seen hanging on the wall of the workshed in the evil dead two from 1987. Yeah, it was in response to the use of the evil dead 1981 on a television screen in this film. And the part and part of a continued banner between directors Wes Craven and Sam Raimi. However, when Wes Craven loaned the glove to a nightmare on Elm Street three dream warriors, it got lost. Oh, of course it did. And it is rumored to be in possession of Robert Englund's agent. It's my bottom off eBay probably. Probably some guy is living in his basement with his mom, probably has it. Yeah, Robert Englund's agent has it wouldn't he give it the Robert Englund? No shit. It would take about three hours for Robert Englund to get his Freddy makeup on. Yeah, near the end it took him about two seconds to take it off because they said he would just rip it off his face after, you know, it'd been on and off so much. The scene where Freddy's arms elongate were achieved by having men with fishing poles on each side of the alley operating a set of puppet arms attached to Robert Englund. And that was our first view of Freddy Krueger two. And I thought, what in the hell is that thing? That was that was on all the trailers and shit. I remember that now that you say it. Yeah. Yeah. I think I remember the trailers from like I said, I don't remember Elm Street at all. I just I remember that trailer at some point with the long ass arms. That is a memory I do have. One of the main reasons Johnny Depp was chosen was because Wes Craven's daughter thought that he was dreamy and threatened to run away from home if he wasn't casting the movie. Can't blame her, I guess. I mean, he's Johnny Depp, especially back then he was just this good looking dude who would have thought he'd turn out to be as weird as he is later in life to jump 21 Jump Street start after this after Friday or yeah, I think so because 21 Jump Street, I believe was on Fox. So I think it came later. Do I need to look this up? Because I'm curious. Keep talking. I'll look it up because I don't know and I want to find the answer. Okay. According to Wes Craven, Robert Englund was not the first choice for the role of Fred Krueger. Craven had initially wanted a stuntman to play the part upon testing several stuntman and he realized he needed a real actor. Other ideas were to cast an elderly actor but he feared that they would be too soft for the way he would have wanted the character to act. Englund eventually got the part by showing up at his audition with Ash smeared under his eyes to sink them in and greasing his hair back with the dipstick from under the hood of his car and blinking as little as possible. He blinked. Freddy's. Freddy does got some his eyes are like really wide open all the time if you look at him. Yeah. Hey, that's true. Very first time. Freddy's. What's that? I'm trying to look up Johnny Depp and I'm gonna know what he did. You're looking at Johnny Depp. Always Amber Heard. It's coming up. Oh shit. The very first time Freddy has seen the movie. He isn't being played by Robert England but the special effects man Charles Bellard and Nelly. It was the only one who knew exactly how to cut the glove and insert the blades. That's at the very opening of the film. We have a Freddy Krueger glove that only has three blades. That's a real one too. That's a real one. The fourth one fell off and I can't get nobody to fix it. Hadn't been able to get everybody to fix it in over 20 years now. I need a log fix that. Now it's still broke. If I had a rivet gun I could fix it in like 30 seconds. Well everybody keeps telling me that but it never gets fixed. So 21 Jump Street came out in 87. So yes. Definitely after this. Because it was on Fox. I knew it had to come way later. Because this was his first film debut too. So yeah but they always said that but I'm with you. I couldn't remember exactly. I mean it's only three year difference but I would remember it because I remember 21 Jump Street was a Fox. One of their first shows. So 21 Jump Streets would turn him into that little poster boy that I still think of Johnny Depp as not the weird do that he would become later. Now the sparking glove effect seen throughout the movie is achieved by attaching the glove to a car battery. That's been used in the haunted house world. Yes it has many many times. The famous scraping noise was created by scratching a steak knife on the underside of a metal chair. Practical. Practical. Practical. I love it. Yep. According to Robert England he based the physicality of Freddy on Klaus Kinski's performance in Warner Herzog's Nosferatu the vampire. England also says in his DVD commentary that his mind the backstory for Freddy was based on something from his own childhood. On Valentine's Day when England was in school everyone in the class made Valentine's cards for one another but there was one boy who received no cards from anyone. England theorized that that boy went on to become Freddy. He didn't get no Valentine's cards. Crazy. That's how he did the part was thinking about that. Well of course this is before the back story of Freddy was written too you know yeah and later movies they came up with all these ridiculous backgrounds. The original script Freddy's right. My future so bright I got to wear shades. Dude I need some shades and I'm moving back. Well everybody's gonna fucking turn it off when I go to bright mode when they watch this on the youtube then trying to get very many views. Oh well I will not watch this one because of your brightness. All right the famous red and green sweater was originally red and yellow based on colors worn by plastic man who looked like Freddy could change his form change his form. The idea was that Freddy changed into what would be yellow and red. However West Craven read the article in Scientific American in 1982 that said that the two most contrasting colors to the human retina were red and green. He decided to alter the colors. That's good otherwise Freddy would have looked like the McDonald's man. No shit. Are they in and out burger man? Red and yellow yeah for sure. Fucking Ronald McDonald running around with some fucking razor fingers. Freddy was supposed to be a silent serial killer such as Jason Vories or Michael Myers. However in the sequels Freddy developed a cheeky persona that enabled him to be black be a black-humoured villain. They ruined the character forever. That's why they never made a successful Elm Street sense except for part three. The words Elm Street are never spoken at all in this film. Like I did not know that didn't get a where you live. Oh I'm over on Elm Street getting fucking murdered by a guy with fucking razor fingers in my dreams. Yeah the little girl skipping rope was the daughter of the couple whose home was used at Tina's used for Tina's house. That's sort of cool. All right it's about it. Talked about a bunch of this stuff already. The um I'm trying to think of something I was going to mention. The whole one two Freddy's coming for you. That was something I rest West Craven. I want to call him West West Craven and I get doesn't it's another thing I think that from his childhood or something to that effect. That was a Friday night thing. I've done forgot it what I was going to say now. Damn it. You should have caught me on Friday. Hey I did two album reviews on Friday night. We're going to put in the pin sometimes so. Yeah we'll save them for when shit bucks up again if shit ever fucks up again. Yeah so. Yeah that's what I turned off bright mode. I'm not bright anymore so. Thank the health freak god that was terrible. All right Carl since you picked this let's hear your thoughts and how you're going to read it. One should be called just a nightmare gnome street and not really compared to the sequels. The sequels were in this movie for me for most of the last 25 to 30 years probably because they were so terrible and I love Robert England but he was so terrible as Freddy in these sequels. Making these dumb ass jokes. I think it was the fact West Craven was not involved is what messed up the Elm Street series that's my opinion because when he came back and did the West Craven's new nightmare it was it was back to being dark again but let's concentrate on this the first movie. Forget the sequels. It's spooky it's scary it's different it's not something that we saw before 84. It still holds up pretty damn good to me. The whole bathtub scene still freaks me the hell out. Freddy's gloves. They actually showed how they made that. It was some dude that was underneath the floor. They had like this tank and he almost drowned or something. Yeah this movie's good. I don't I've never liked the ending and there's actually like four different endings and they put all four of them on this 4k. Seen them before it's not nothing new. I don't think any of the endings were good honestly. I guess they'd sort of talk West Craven into ending it to where they could make a sequel. I'm surprised he went along with that but he did. So besides the ending there's really not much bad about this movie. I'll give it. I'm trying to think what I want to give it. I guess I'll give it a 4.5. The score is good. Robert England's good in this one and we won't talk about the others. And Heather Lane and Camp Lan and Camp I can never say her name. Lang and Camp. Lang and Camp. Perfect role for her and Johnny Depp was great too so I'm going to give it a 4.70. I just raised it based on them too. All right. My thoughts well like I said earlier I waited out like a three block line for two hours waiting to see this movie. You're like a 10 year horror movie veteran by this point so. And what 84 what was I 16 17. Yeah but you've been watching horror movies since you were three so yeah this was. Yeah this was I guess you could maybe say sort of like this was our generation's extra system maybe you could say because it was. I don't know if I'd go that far you know you know for puree is not that big a town for to have a line like that in a movie you know I think that's the only time that's ever happened to me all the times I went and seen movies when I was a teenager kid whatever but it's not have seen any of the Star Wars movies. I wasn't a big Star Wars fan after the first three talking about the first three that I remember when Return of the Jedi came out there was a line for like three months. Yeah that's here though. But anyway this very good movie for sure. Freak me out man it takes a lot to freak me out. There's a lot of scenes that were awesome in this that stand out for sure you know in the horror genre for kills so. Great special effects like you said the score is good. Lots of memories about this movie seen it seen it so many times it's unbelievable. Same here. So it was nice watching it again the other night though. I agree in watching in the horror game. Still hold up. It holds up. For sure I'm not to try to find that director's cut. I'd like to see that. Van Dango I might might pay to buy it or pay to rent that. That would be cool so. Oh well you're rating this thing. I'm gonna give it a four and a half. Well I've just decided to retract my rating down to a four. And I'll tell you why. The sequels. The sequels really ruined this movie for so long and even when I'm watching it I'm still thinking about God those sequels are terrible so. Part two like you said is atrocious. Yeah they went the totally wrong way with that. They're all even part three I always say it's good. It's not really good it was just so much better than the other sequels. It actually had a good three. It actually had a good story to it though. It made sense bringing bringing her back. All the other ones aren't really a. It's no. There's no story or it's the same old story you know. Where they change the actresses in about every other one. But yeah the sequels really ruined this movie. I don't think there's ever been a series of movies that was so terrible. You know after the first one was so good. I don't know how I even made it past part two to make a sequel it was so awful. Part two is atrocious dude. I know it's bad dude. The part five is worse. Part four was I don't even remember what the hell happened in that. And the part six where they killed Freddy that one was bad too. It was terrible too. So I think I'm not a big fan of the Freddy versus Jason either. I didn't mind that I thought that was okay. But I've got a 4.7 to a 4 just based on the sequel. Damn dude I've never seen you go backwards before. I've had to because like I said it's a great movie but those sequels have ruined it. If you take away the sequels. Like I said if they made it a trilogy the first one. Dream Warriors and the new nightmare. That would have been some of the greatest horror movies ever created. But it didn't happen that way. And then they made that awful remake whenever year it was all that movie. That movie is absolutely I don't even know how to describe that terrible thing. Why did they even make it? The new Nosferatu is coming out too. Hopefully it's better than that nightmare before Elm Street remake. Oh that was bad dude for sure. That's what I'm saying. That was why did they even make that thing? Jackie Earl Haley did a good job as Freddy. They do a good job. He's great but I thought he did a pretty good job. You can't have Freddy without Robert England. Yeah yeah you just can't. Why I don't know why they didn't get him to do it. Fuck I don't know they thought they were going to recreate something that didn't need to be recreated. They really did it was create a big stinking turd. It was a turd it goes right after those sequels it's just a shitty. It was. Now I'm just in a bad mood thinking about the sequels and that remake. And now you mentioned Nosferatu and it's got me worried that's going to suck. Oh man. Because this will be the third version of Nosferatu. Blumhouse dude Nosferatu. Probably. Blumhouse does it it's going to yeah god. Yeah well let's just say if you if you haven't seen these movies and you're watching the show I don't know why you haven't or you want to refresh them watch this one. Watch part three and watch part seven and stop and you'll have a good trilogy of movies right there and you don't even need those other fucking terrible sequels to even know what's going on. Exactly because there's nothing going on in the first place and the second one has nothing to do with anything so yeah watch part one part three and part seven and you'll think and thank me later. Yeah and that's all I got to say about anything all right well that's all we got for a nightmare on Elm Street so thanks for viewing and it's sad when I think of that I always have to say part one because of them damn sequels I always say not my Elm Street part one I shouldn't have to do that. But you do. All right everybody thanks for watching and listening and we apologize for Brett's bright ass head too. Yeah if you're watching on YouTube. I apologize a week you might want to listen to it on podcast and skip the video. I apologize for my brightness but anyway check us out on all the social medias. Are you on blue sky yet? No I'm not on blue sky I don't even know what the fuck blue sky is. It's where all the people who are mad at X are moving to. Oh god. They tend to be from the left of the of the realm. I hardly get on X. I don't even really get on. The X is more the right end of the realm now so we have a left and we have a right. That's all fucking stupid but anyway. Now I'm blue sky I signed up like I do all new social media accounts. We'll see how long this one lasts. So if you're on this thing called blue sky look me up because I have zero friends and I'm following zero people. I saw George decay on there and I'm like oh fuck. No I don't think I'll be getting that app. Okay that's all we got. All right thanks everybody. Love you. Hey evil. Hey evil. The kids of Elm Street don't know it yet but something is coming to get them. There's something out there isn't there. We just see what's happening. What did that protect? I don't know. There's a car I got to say. It's in a giant pukin since he saw it. They're gonna kill me for sure. Did you do it? There was somebody else there. He was locked in a room with a girl who went in alive and came out in a rubber bag. No one knows where it came from or who it will visit next. Nancy? There's something wrong with you. You're imagining me. Nightmare on Elm Street. Do you believe in the pukin air? No. Whatever you do. Don't fall. She's the only one who can stop it if she fails. I'm your boyfriend now Nancy. No one will survive. Help me. Where are you? From West Craven, director of the hills have eyes and last house on the left. A new masterpiece in fantasy terror of nightmare on Elm Street.
