Mark Chapter 1 - " Deliverance from Evil Spirits " - Episode 5
Welcome to our Through the Bible study here on Bible in-depth network with Alex. In our study we look at the context of Scripture and how it applies to our daily lives. We also believe that there's no limitation to the revelation of the word God. Let's study together today. Now we want to get into our time of study of the word of God, and we thank you for always joining us in this broadcast. Like we already say, there's no limitation to the revelation of the word of God. God reveals his word to everyone who shows need for everyone who wants revelation from God, he will give you revelation, he has given us the Holy Spirit, and he will reveal to us everything that we need to know. And still today we want to continue with our study of the Book of Mark. And we left off last time from verse 1920, when Jesus is calling, starting to call the apostles, those that are going to work with him. And now today we want to continue with verse 21 of the chapter 1, and you can also follow through in your Bible as we study today. Matthew, sorry, Mark, Mark chapter 1 verse 21, so that's by saying, then they went into Capenam, and immediately on the Sabbath he entered the synagogue. This is Jesus that they're talking about. He entered the synagogue and told, and they were astonished at his teaching, for he told them as one having authority and not as the scribes. Jesus is getting to a synagogue to teach, and Scripture here tells us that the people are astonished at his teaching, for he told them as one having authority and not as the scribes. I want us to first get an understanding of what a synagogue is. During the time of the Jews, during their captivity, in Babylon, remember, we had when you listen to the podcasts we did for the Old Testament, we looked at the captivity of the Jews, we looked at the fact that Israel is captured by the Assyrians, and those get lost in the dispersion, and it gets hard for you to trace out an Israelite, those now were the 10 tribes that get lost in there, and now you have Judah, which is the representation of the nation of Israel, and these are the ones we call the Jews here. They also get captured later on by Babylon, which was under Nebuchadnezzar, so during the time of their captivity, they were unable to do any sacrificial acts, activities that had been told to them to do, as part of the law, when you read in the book of Leviticus, and while they were in the wilderness, all those activities they used to carry out sacrificial even in the earlier time before the dispersion, they were not able to carry this out when they had gone into captivity, and they were in a foreign land, of course, they couldn't do that, but also remember the temple, the temple of Jerusalem had been destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar when he came and put it on fire after their capture and their taken as captives, so there is nothing about sacrifices that is being done by these people, and there are leaders, the Jewish leaders, the religious leaders in this case went on to put greater emphasis now on the moral commandments of the law, rather than those other sacrificial activities that were being done before, the cutting of the bowl, the cow, the goat, whatever it is that had been mentioned. Now, they put more emphasis on teaching the moral commandment, and when the Jews returned to Jerusalem, and they rebuilt the temple, they maintained this emphasis of teaching and explaining the law, so when they returned from captivity, as they were in the foreign land in Babylon, they only were having this law toad, the moral law toad, and they were not carrying out sacrifices, now even when they returned to Jerusalem, we see that they continue in this teaching of the law, and even after the temple has been built, they could still continue in teaching of this law, and explaining it, Nehemiah 8 verse 1, it gives us this example that all the people came together as one in the square, before the water get, they told Ezra the teacher of the law to bring out the book of the law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded for Israel. So on the first day of the seventh month, Ezra the priest brought the law, before the assembly, which was made up of men and women, and who were all able to understand. He read it aloud from daybreak till known, as he faced the square before the water get in the presence of the men, women and others who could understand, and what the people listened attentively to the book of the law, so this is evidence for us to understand what's going on at this time, when they returned from captivity. Now the Levites who include Joshua, Bani, Sherebaia, Jamin, Akub, Shebaia, Odia, Massiah, Kalita, Azaria, Joseph, Bad, Hanan and Peliah, instructed the people in the law, where the people were standing there. They read from the book of the law of God, making it clear and giving the meaning so that the people understood what was being read, so. When they return, they are putting emphasis on this. Now the teaching activity was a matter that was very key in the emergence of these meeting places, which are known as synagogues, that we've read about where Jesus is going to teach, and when you get into the Greek word for that, it means together or to bring together synagogues or places where people would come and be together, where people would be gathered. So the synagogue is the center for prayer, the synagogue is the center for worship, the synagogue is the place where they do teaching, it's also a place where administration is carried out, and if there was any place or locality where you had a good number of Jews present right there, they would then place a synagogue there because it would be able to function well. So if you had many Jews in a certain location, then you would have a synagogue placed there. So it was a place of gathering or a gathering point for the Jews in that locality, and this is where they would go and have fellowship. They would also discuss matters of the community affairs, things to do with their area, and this is what we call a synagogue, where Jesus is going. There was no altar in a synagogue, they did not have an altar there, and there were no sacrifices that were offered in the synagogue, yeah, we need to also keep that in mind. This is just a place of prayer, worship, teaching, administration, dealing with community affairs, and you would have services conducted there, at least every Sabbath, and you had the leaders come through our lead, these services. You have prayer, they open with prayer, then they follow by reading from the old Testament scrolls that were in the synagogue, and they used to keep them in a special box, and when it's time to read, they go to that box, they peek out the scroll, they hand it to the reader, and the reader does the reading of the day, and then they put back that scroll in that special box. You found also that many of the Jews, because they had gone into the exile, they were not so familiar with the language, the Hebrew language, because when people leave their motherland and go and at this past, many things change, including the language. Some are born and they never speak the language, so most of these Jewish people were not familiar with the Hebrew language at this time, so you had to have interpretation that is done for them of these old Testament readings, and then someone addresses what they've read, and you get that from the portion of scripture that you've read, which the leader has done or read to them. Now by the time of Jesus, the teaching that was being done in the synagogues was mostly done by the scribes and the teachers of the law. You have the scribes who are in charge mostly in the synagogues, doing the teaching and the reading and explaining, and these people had risen to places of power during this period that leads to the New Testament time. And when Jesus now comes, this is a different person or different approach, and as we have read, people are astonished at his teaching, because he taught them as somebody who was authority and not as the scribes, not as these people who were preached in the synagogues and had the microphone all the time. But Jesus comes, his teaching and he's doing this in authority, not like the scribes were doing it, he's doing it in authority. So people are astonished and they are wondering, where does he get such authority? How does he speak with such authority? Authority is not shouting, sometimes we shout as we are preaching and then we want to make or believe that when we shout then there's authority, authority is not in shouting. No, Jesus was not shouting while he was in the synagogues, but when he spoke, he spoke as one with authority, because authority is bestowed upon you, you don't force it, it's bestowed upon you, and scribes best their teaching, on the schooling they had done and don't know who had taught them, you know, I'm a student of so-and-so and this is what gave them pride, that, you know, for me who taught me, this is this rabbi or this scribe so-and-so, that's why they gain their pride, that when Jesus comes, it's not about who taught him, he's speaking in authority, he's teaching in authority, yeah, so he goes to the synagogue and the Bible tells us, he starts to teach and the people are astonished by his teaching, verse 23, now there was a man in the synagogue with an unclean spirit and he cried out saying, "Let us alone, what have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? Did you come to destroy us, I know who you are, the Holy One of God, this is a man speaking, please keep note of that, but Jesus rebuked him saying, be quiet and come out of him, and when the unclean spirit had convulsed the man, cried out with a loud voice and came out of him, then they were all amazed so that they questioned among themselves saying, what is this, what new doctrine is this, for with authority he commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him and immediately his fame spread throughout all the region, around Galilee, what is happening, Jesus goes into a synagogue that mostly people know how the scribes do their thing or the teachers of the law and how they brag and do their thing, when Jesus comes first of all he speaks with authority and teaches with authority and they are astonished by that, but then something else happens as he's doing his ministry in the synagogue that there is a man in this synagogue and this man has an unclean spirit and we are told he cried out saying, let us alone, we have what have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth, did you come to destroy us, they have recognized Jesus, what is within this man, unclean spirits the Bible tells us and they convulsed him and with a loud voice they came out when Jesus said, come out of him, so they are amazed, this looks like something they have not seen before, but we need to understand as believers because there is lots of teaching that is going on today, there are lots of doctrines that are moving today, but we need to understand as believers what we are up against, we need to know what we are up against and it is very absurd if a time comes and we took everything for granted, we need to know what we are fighting, we need to know the facts and the things that are happening in the spiritual world because we have become naive, if not, and we could even be to blimmers, the leaders or teachers that we do not tell people the truth or the reality of what exists, but what is an unclean spirit, what is this unclean spirit that is being just out of this man that Jesus is telling to come out of a man, the new testament uses the time unclean spirit, and sometimes it will use demon, and we cannot see any difference between the two, these are the same when you are dealing with unclean spirits and demons, and it is interesting that this is happening within a synagogue, within a place of prayer, within a place where worship services happen, can someone be in the synagogue, yethaba unclean spirits, can someone be in a church, yethaba unclean spirits, and this can be debated in all things and in all ways that people want to debate it, but this is a fact that yes it can happen, it can happen that someone can have unclean spirits when they are in a church, it can happen that someone can have unclean spirits in them, and yet they require, then the ushering, they are preachers, it can happen because these are disembodied spirits, they are looking for a place to dwell, even spirits look for where to dwell, they look for bodies of men, where they can dwell, and be there, that's why they are in this man, that Jesus is ministering to, because this man is in a religious gathering, so yes even in a church gathering or church setting, a person can have unclean spirits, because they are seeking where to occupy, they are seeking for a place to rest, and they can occupy a human being, so we don't have to be misinformed about this, we need to be alert, we need to be alert my friend, Matthew chapter 12 verse 43, this is just speaking, he says, when the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, where? the unclean spirit going out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none, then it says, I will return to my house from which I came, which house, that person, that person that it came out of, that person who is now a believer, that it came out of when they prayed for you, yes, so he says, then it says, this unclean spirit, that I will return to my house from which I came, and when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept and put in order, what has put you in order, the deliverance, yes, then it goes and brings with each seven other spirits more powerful than itself, and they enter and dwell there, you cannot see them with your eyes, but they come, the other one first comes, checks, says, okay, this person has not pressed security with them, there is no word of God in them, there is no fellowship with them, there is no seriousness about the salvation, about the delivering power of Jesus that helped them, so what it does, it goes and picks seven others, the Bible says, and they come and enter and dwell in that person, and the Bible says, and the last state of that person is worse than the first, so also will it be with the civil generation. So somebody who had a demon or an unclean spirit that was causing them to act in a certain way, with addictions with certain habits and certain evil that they were doing now the person, the Bible tells us, Jesus says, the state of that person is worse than the first, so these spirits exist, and we, as long, you know, the biggest deception, the devil can ever place is to convince people to do that, he does not exist, if your enemy succeeds in making you think that he is not there, then they have victory, that's the best way, even when it comes to war, is to catch people when they have no knowledge of your existence, they do not think you exist, that is how you torture, and that's what the devil is doing, he is torturing people, he is torturing people and making them feel like he does not exist, so do not fear, do not worry about me, I am not there, yeah, so we need to understand, we need to be sure, we need to understand that we have got to shield ourselves with the Lord, with Holy Ghost, and listen and not be as the evil generation is, yeah, so these unclean spirits recognize Jesus, because as we read in the scripture, he says, they said, what do we have to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth, okay, and they know that Jesus has the authority to destroy them, that's why they are telling him, what do we have to do, did you come to destroy us, because Jesus destroys evil spirits, and that is a good thing, because Jesus has given us authority, in the name of Jesus he says, you cast out demons, in my name you will cast out demons, they do not have to be part of you, they do not have to have room in you, my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, it's not a temple of any evil spirit, and it's through the blood of Jesus, and through the authority of Jesus, and in the name of Jesus that they come out, and you need to make it a habit to cast them out, and we have not been told that you cast them out of people only, you can even cast them out of yourself, this is something I'm telling you because I have known and have seen and have witnessed and experienced, you get a moment and cast them out of your life, that spirit of for communication, you cast it out, you say come out in the name of Jesus, that spirit will without you cast it out, it will come out in the name of Jesus, spirits of procrastination, spirits that you'll be shocked with the number of spirits you'll find out there, that are in your life and you have to cast them out, spirits that block success, you cast them out of your life, spirits of bondage and burdens, you cast them out, because they are occupying your body, and if you command them to come out in the name of Jesus, they will come out, don't give them space, don't give them room, command them to come out and they will leave, there is a lot and from what we've read they are dressed as persons, so even when you are dressing the spirits you address them as persons and command them to come out, they are listening, because from what we've read they can speak, they can enter a person and they can come out of a person, and sometimes this process of coming out involves physical reactions, because when we read we saw that this man was convulsed, they convulsed the man, as this was happening, they convulsed the man, so it can be a tough process and I think some of us have witnessed this people being prayed for and all sorts of things are happening, it's because these are persons, disembodied persons, persons without bodies, they need to be dealt with in the name of Jesus to come out of your life, so they affect someone's body and they can cry out the loud voice as we read, they cried with a loud voice and the voice is heard and the process of being cast out and this is something that the people had never witnessed, it was new to them, this is something that they had never seen, it was new to them, they had never seen such a thing happen, but this is what Jesus came to do, to set you free, to set people free, and demons will, harass, demons will torture, sometimes people get sick and the cause is these spirits and they need to be cast out, they enslave people, they cause addictions, yeah, habits, these are demons that we need to deal with and sometimes we take people through cancelling, you know, we're going to cancel you out of that addiction, one of the quickest ways to start with is with casting out the demon and let it get out, they defile, they attack the body, so, I want us to know as believers that this is a serious matter and what the enemy has done is to make people think that it does not exist and to send out messages and preaching by some ministers who tell you that was dealt with it is no longer there it does not exist, but you need to know this and I just want us to as we conclude today, I want to take you through a process that you can do and God will set you free and you'll be delivered from these spirits and we do not do this in our power, no, we do not do this in our might, no, we do these and this is done only by the power of Jesus, the one who came and died for that is how we overcome the devil, that is how we overcome the spirits, that is how we fight and get our bodies as a temp of the Holy Spirit free from occupation of these spirits that are not supposed to be there, it is a place for the Holy Spirit to dwell, it's not a place for the devil to dwell and I want to let you know that God can set you free, I want to let you know today that you can receive your deliverance and you can carry out deliverance in your house, you can carry out deliverance in your children, you believe because you do not do it in your power and strength, you do it by the power of Jesus in the name of Jesus and this let me give you a process and if you have somewhere to write you can write down the steps that you are going to follow, to carry out this deliverance every believer can do this and you can do it even on your own self, this I tell you because I have done and it shocked me, first time it happened but it's a fact that these spirits want to dwell in us but we do not give them room, we cast them out in the name of Jesus, firstly you've got to a farm, personally a farm your faith in Jesus Christ, that is step one, yeah, you are a farm, your faith in Jesus Christ, you see what Jesus has done for you as the Bible has already said, so you are making the words of your mouth agree with the word of God, you are proclaiming the victory of Jesus in a bold and in a personal way on your own behalf, so you personally a farm your faith in Christ, yeah, then you humble yourself, the Bible tells us how God resists the proud but he gives grace to the humble, so humble yourselves and at the mighty hand of God says the word, so you are going to humble yourself, that is the second step you humble yourself, it is the first, it is one of the steps that start for you to receive deliverance, you tell God I need you, you humble yourself and tell God I need you my Lord, step three, you confess any known sin, the Bible tells us that if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, sometimes the reason we do not receive deliverance is because of this not confessing our sins, so confess your sins. If there is a specific sin, be honest about it. Yeah, do not get a fancy name for it. No. Speak it. God forgives sins when we acknowledge them that they are sins. So if you try to call it certain thing, that is my weakness, that is my problem. No, if it is a sin, it is a sin. If it is hatred, call it hatred. If it is lust, call it lust. If it is gossip, call it gossip and say, God, I confess of lust. I confess of gossip. And there is something else. The Bible says that God visits the sins of the fathers on their children to the third and fourth generation. So the sins of your ancestors do not make you guilty, but they can't be causing you to suffer from their consequences. So it's advisable that you confess and disassociate yourself from any sins that your ancestors have committed. Yeah. And this is even key if there's been any attachment to the occult or witchcraft, all false religion in your family. You disassociate yourself. And you may say, I do not know that I have any sin. Let me tell you one thing. Relax. Let the Holy Spirit bring to your mind any specific sins because he will. The moment you tell the Holy Spirit, now tell me. I promise you he will tell you everything. He will tell you everything about yourself. You know what, Alex, you have a problem with this. You have a sin of this because it's your helper. The Bible says he will help you. Step number four. After you've confessed the sins, you repent of all your sins. It's necessary for you to confess, but that's enough. That's not enough. You have got to repent your sins to repent means you turn. You forsake. You turn out completely from them. You say, I'm not getting back to that. I'm not doing that again. Bible says he who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy. Not just confessing, but you also forsake them and no, it's not a journey I'm going on anymore. So, you've got to forsake them. If you want to still keep them, this is some of these habits and sins as part of your life, then they are your friends. God delivers us from our enemies, not from our friends. So, if you make your friend your enemy, then you can ask God to deliver you. So, this repentance will involve you to accept responsibility for what you've done, and you do not hide under somebody. You don't say, it's this one who made me do this. Don't hide under your friend or your parent or your spouse. No. Your attitude does go to be that I am guilty and I acknowledge it. You need to take a stand against your sin, just like God takes a stand at. God hates sin. Yeah? Step five. This is important. If you're going to be delivered, you forgive all other people. Jesus says in Mark 11, 25, that, "And whenever you stand praying and you have something against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive your trespasses." He says, "But if you do not forgive neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses." So, in this process, you've got to forgive everyone. If we desire forgiveness from God for us, since we must also forgive those who have sinned against us unconditionally, forgive them. Praise the Lord. I don't have enough time to go through the parable or the story that is told in Matthew 18, 23 of this unforgiving servant. But because he refused to forgive the debt of the other person, yet for him he had been forgiven, he was delivered to the torturers. Yeah? So, this activity of demons is that the same as that of the torturers. For those who do not want to forgive, they are handed over to torturers, and these torturers are these spirits. So, you must freely forgive all of those who have offended you, all of those who have harmed you, all of those who have caused you trouble. You forgive them. Make a firm decision and say, speak it and say, "I forgive so and so. I forgive this person, you say their name. I forgive them of all that they did to me. I laid down my bitterness, I laid down my resentment, I laid down my hatred. I forgive so and so." Speak it with your mouth. This will make you act for forgiving, effective. Step number six. You need to break off the occult, all any false religion. God hates any doctrine or practice that takes his attention and your loyalty from him, because he wants full worship, all hearted towards him. So, if you want to draw near to God, you must cut all contact with the devil. So, you will have some cases to cut off, if you have any possessions, not even some cases, all cases. If you have any position, you remove that position that belongs to the occult in your house. Some are images, some are items, some are clothes with images, bearing images and wads that are evil. You take them out, you remove them. You break off those books, souvenirs, champs, objects of art. You remember what Moses told the people of Israel, "Now, shall you bring an abomination into your house lest you be doomed to destruction like it. When you get something that is abominable and you have it in your house, then that is what the devil wants to hold you back." So, you get rid of it, and the best way to do it is to ban such items. You take them out and ban them. So, you break yourself off. On step number seven, you prepare to be released from every cast. Yeah? You prepare yourself to be released from every cast. Jesus, the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, when he goes on the cross, he took himself and became a cast for us so that you inherit the blessing of Abraham. So, you are released from the cast and you take your stand. Step number eight, taking your stand and making a firm decision that you submit your will, you submit your purpose, you submit your future, you submit your whole life and take a stand with God against all sin, against all evil and against every kind of demon. You against it. And this is what you are going to do. And when you do this, your life is going to be delivered. Now, as you go through this process, the Holy Spirit will start to reveal to you some of the spirits that are within you. And as it reveals them to you, you cast them out. You speak and you cast them and you tell them, "Get out. Spirit of this, get out." Spirit of rejection, get out. Spirit of lust, get out, whatever it will be. You cast it out. You take your stand in the name of Jesus against it, that it has more place in you and you commande to go. On step number nine, which is the last step, you expel. And it's interesting how this happens because you expel through your mouth, you breathe out and they will come out. This, I promise you, they will come out because you're not doing it in your power. You are doing it by the power of Jesus. You're doing it in the name of Jesus. So, and do something today for you is listening and may be interested in deliverance today. I want to lead you in a prayer of deliverance. Do this with all your hearts and focus on Him. And you can do this process again and again. Some of it can take even a long time. It can take a week while you're doing this. I'm telling you something that I've gone through personally, but God is waiting for you to deliver you, to set you free. Some, you may do it today, you may do it again tomorrow. Just follow the same process and your life will not be the same. I want to go through this prayer with you today and you'll say these words as we pray today and we shall go through this prayer following the steps that we've just done for you who wants to be free. Deliverance is for those who are willing to be free. It's for those who have met the conditions that we've gone through. It's not forced on anyone. It is a process for those who decide and say I'm tired. I want to be free, then you'll be free. So, wherever you are listening to me today and you want to say this prayer with me, you'll say these words after me and follow. Hallelujah. First, we are going to personally affirm our faith in Christ and you say these words. Lord Jesus Christ, I believe you are the Son of God and the only way to God that you died on the cross for my sins and rose again so that I may be forgiven to receive eternal life. I renounce all pride. I renounce all religious self-righteousness and any dignity that does not come from you. I have no claim on your mercy, except that you died in my place. I confess all my sins before you and hold nothing back, especially. I confess, now you mention, that specific sin, mention it by name and confess it, mention it. I repent of all my sins. I repent of all my sins. I turn away from them and I turn to you. Lord, I turn to you for mercy and forgiveness. Then you say this, by a decision of my will, I freely forgive all who have ever hummed or wronged me. I lay down all bitterness. I lay down all resentment and all hatred. Specifically, I forgive. Now you mention the names of those people, that you've got to forgive. I break all contact I have ever had with the occult, all with all false religion. I commit myself to get rid of all objects associated with the occult, all false religion. Lord Jesus, I thank you that on the cross you have made a curse that I might be redeemed from every curse and inherit God's blessing. On that basis, I ask you to release me and set me free to receive the deliverance that I need. Now I take my stand with you, Lord, against all certain demons. I submit to you, Lord, and I resist the differ. Amen. Now I speak to any demons that have control over me. The Holy Spirit is bringing them to you speak to them directly now. I command you. You're speaking directly to them now. I speak to any demons. They are hearing these apostles. I speak to any demons that have control over me. I command you to go from me now. In the name of Jesus, I expel you. Now breathe out. Breathe out. Be free. Be free. Don't say any prayer, just breathe out. Be free. Be set free. Be set free in the name of Jesus. He became a curse that you may have life. Be set free. Be set free. Spirits of abortion, spirits of sexuality come out in the name of Jesus. Come out in the name of Jesus. Spirits of sickness come out in the name of Jesus. Come out, leave. Get out in the name of Jesus. Be free. Be free. Be delivered in the name of Jesus. Be delivered in the name of Jesus. For he shared his blood for you that you may have life and life in abundance. Be free. He became a sacrifice on the cross that you may receive life in abundance. All your spirits come out in the name of Jesus. Said God's people free. Spirits of bondage come out. Come out, spirit of frustration come out in the name of Jesus. The spirit that frustrates. Come out in the name of Jesus. Be free. [Music] Thank you, Jesus. You can continue in deliverance. And you can repeat this process again. As the Holy Spirit reveals to you. Thank you, Jesus. Whichever release you receive, you thank the Lord. Giving thanks to God is a whip on that the enemy hates. Thank him. Thank the Lord. Thank the Lord for your deliverance. Thank you, Father. Thank you, Father. Thank you, Lord, for setting us free. Continue to set us free. [Music] Hallelujah. Thank you for joining us for our study today.
