Welcome to the Professional Podcast Network, where brilliance meets business, elevate your brand, and supercharge your revenue with inspiring insights and innovation. Hello everyone, and welcome back to the show. I'm your host Matt, and today my guest is Elena Giorgeti, who is the owner of Make an Impact Career Coaching in North Vancouver, Canada. How are you doing today? I'm very well, thanks for reaching out and having me on the show today. Well thanks for being here. So why don't you tell me a little bit more about you and your business? Yeah, so I'm a career coach and an organizational consultant, and I started my own business four years ago actually, I would say exactly four years ago yesterday, and before then I worked as a career coach at the University of British Columbia at the business school, and because I always wanted to start something on my own, and I also wanted to be more free. In my life and with my time, I thought this was going to be a really good opportunity for me to do what I'm passionate about, which is helping individuals make decisions for their career, specifically intentional decisions. I've worked with a lot of people that sometimes get to a place in their career where they're not very happy or aligned with what they're doing anymore, and they want something more, they want maybe to earn more money, they want to have a better career trajectory, and a different title, or maybe they want to do just something that makes them feel more satisfied and happy, and so I really help them go through the transitions and understand what they can do that can really make them happier. So what inspired you to go on this career path? Well, I started my career as a recruiter. I worked for a big multinational consulting company, and I joined them in their talent acquisition team, and so I worked for them both in Italy, where I'm originally from. I was born and raised there, and after that I moved to Canada, and I think we need to work with the same organization. So I worked for a while in my career in talent acquisition and recruitment, and I really liked selecting candidates, having that connection with candidates, and also delivering the good news. You finally got an offer after interviews and so on, and in reflecting back, I think that that was one of the best aspects that I enjoyed about my work as a recruiter. And in 2008, I think when the financial crisis was happening, unfortunately, I lost my job myself, and I found myself in one of those phases in your career where you don't know what to do. I, of course, wanted a job, but I wasn't sure at that point if I wanted to continue in recruiting. And so I worked myself with a career counselor back then, and I participated to a career exploration program, and that really opened my eyes around career development and professionals helping people with their career decisions. And I started thinking that I would have the skills and the experience to be able to do that as well. And so I just think to remember that moment when I said I think what I want to do is not help companies find talent, but I want to help people find their company that they would like to work for. So I really flipped things, and that really helped me understand what my career trajectory could continue on, and so that's how I found out that there were career coaches and career counselors, and so I decided to go back to school. I did a career development certificate program at a local college that really helped me understand theories and models in career development, and in the meantime, I was lucky enough to find a job at the Career Center at UBC Sauter School of Business. And that was a really important stepping stone in my career that moment, because even if I was not hired right away as a career coach, but it really helped me be surrounded by career coaches and really get immersed into the world of career development. And then after a year and a half in an administrative position, I was able to get promoted to a career coach position, and that's where I stayed for 11 years, and where we gained a lot of experience, exposure also to career development practices and everything that you do to help students find jobs. Well is there anything about you or your business you want our listeners to know about today? Well, I really work with people that are ambitious and that also want to make a change in their career. I have experienced myself in place or moments in my career where I was lost, and I didn't know exactly what I would do, and I know it's not an easy place to be. Also, we know that the market right now is not as easy, and I need to regularly, almost every day, people that share with me that they would like to do something different, but maybe they are afraid of making the wrong choice or wrong decision because they have a family support or because they are just afraid of making the wrong decision, and they have to pay the bills, and life is expensive, and of course we want the stability of having an income. So having support of a professional often proves to be a really good strategy to get only banker some ideas and also brainstorm some options that people could have, but also have a support to stay accountable to these changes and goals that people would like to achieve. So I think what I want people to know about me is that my business is very focused on providing tailored personalized services to individuals. I mostly do one-to-one coaching because I really care about my clients and I want that they feel that they are seeing and that they are being supported along the way. I have a model that I use to provide my coaching services that is very step-by-step, very easy to follow, and I always say that they are going to be equipped with skills that are going to last like for the life, there are lifelong skills. Well, for anyone out there who is listening and wants to learn more about this, what are some of the best ways to get in touch with you? Yeah, so they can definitely find me on LinkedIn where I am quite active. I post regularly about career tips and also personal stories or client success stories, so they can find me at Elinaj or Jetty and they can also find me through my website, which is in fact careercoaching.ca, and they can see not only my background, my approach, but also details about my services and packages that I offer to my clients. All right, well thank you again for talking with us today. Thank you for having me and I wish you all a great rest of your day. Oh, thanks and same to you and take care. Thank you, bye-bye. So the rest of our listeners stay tuned, we will be right back after these messages.
