good morning everybody text summer here with Ian Boyd and we are going to talk some schematics like we do on the Wednesday show for this lovely thanks giving make sure this one's right yep Texas run game versus Kentucky why did we find such success versus the Wildcats and then we're gonna take a look at the Aggie rushing offense their combination of running back and quarterback runs also them being down their top back then we're gonna take a look at the CFP rankings Ian always enjoys that that's his favorite part yeah and then of course your questions guys so I'm excited drew happy thanksgiving Jacob Hookum yeah our WTF is an Aggie anyways Hookum all right it's a farmer right it's like I guess someone who participates in agriculture that makes sense yeah all right there's a bunch of them yeah how did Texas run for 250 on Kentucky and boy you know I don't think Kentucky was quite the formidable defensive front they were trying that hard if you watch their fits they're like stepping up to the line but they're not crap like they didn't Kentucky didn't seem like they were really had their whole heart in it that was a question that was a question going in because Paul's been telling us there's all these rumors that Mark Stoops once out and they're trying to negotiate that and you know their season is in tatters they there was a chance that they beat Texas that they could end the year against Louisville win and be bull eligible but I guess they weren't they didn't really care about that in IL era right Deon Walker looks a lot more enthusiastic about rushing the passer than he does yeah stopping the run which is a telltale sign of you will be to worry about the team I'll get mine you know remember the Titans for anyone that is wondering why I adopted that that's Ian's actual accent that's what you that's what he actually sounds like off-camera guys yeah so I think also Paul again noted accurately that Texas was a lot better at landing their combo blocks than outside zone and they seem to make it a point to stick on the combo blocks a little longer and that would the downside of that is that if you're running his own play and you stay on near the defensive lineman the linebackers can just like run free to the ball so they did a little more of that and then they let the linebackers run free and just make let the running backs side step them you know and make them wrong and then go eat in the in the wide open spaces behind the combo blocks so they were they were a lot better I don't think their opponent was that great and Wisener really Wisener and blew both but they have excellent reactions and vision like when it comes down to like making people miss and finding the right gap they're really good if it's about running through the wash and breaking tackles and you know less so yeah let's look at I'll pull up your article here real quick this one so here let's give a little breakdown of the run fits not the run fits but the run concepts that we went with yeah outside zone was wrecking 11 carries 93 yards 8.5 yards per carry one fumble Jerrick Gibson's fumble was on outside zone and he was like he was running through an open hole and he got hit from behind and bad ball security but it was gonna be like a at least a six-yard game for that happen yeah have you got a chance to prep a in him yet yeah I was watching some of that this morning if you look at some our Turner specifically or was it more of a global watch I'll turn a zero in on defense but my problem is that Turner and Stewart okay Turner seems pretty good to me he's really wide and powerful the least impressive of the you know who's not that impressive the last like five weeks squirting yeah he's been moving a little bit slow man like he doesn't he also doesn't look to be in in tip-top shape he's there's he's probably not healthy because I was talking to an Aggie friend of mine and he was like Scott how do you say his name it's Gordon squirting he's like squirting somebody was calling squirting the best player on A&M and he was like that guy's not watched us that guy's not our best player and I looked it up and he had 14 tackles for loss in the season and I was like well the stats are those are some stats and he's like well it's probably all against New Mexico State or whoever so I looked it up and he had he has 14 tackles for loss in five sacks on the season against Arkansas Missouri he had six and a half tackles for loss in three and a half sacks in a two-game span since then which is about five games I think he's had five total tackles for loss in half a sack so then to me I'm with you he seems like he's probably he's probably like dinged up and slowed up a little bit and obviously he's he's big you see some of his past rushes and he'll he'll do like the initial four or five steps kind of post the guy and then just kind of stop and I don't know if that's a he's like on assignment holding contain or something like that but he's not he's not going as hard as he could might be coasting off that first round projection a little bit that d-line has been given a lot more credit than they deserve statistically they're like a 40-something-ish d-line in production a lead is as a lead does but when you hear the announcer speak you would think you know that they're top three in production now they have two potential for first rounders so I get that aspect but as far as play on the field that defensive line hasn't been as solid as you would think if you were just listening to people talk about them all right yeah we'll get off A&M real quick get back to the old Kentucky I'm sure I'll be right back we'll be right back we can't help it it's a week so okay but the most runs we had we were outside zone here on this chart yeah they I've carries on sweep almost felt like more they they love sweep this year which is I think me I think me and you've argued about this before but when I do these anytime they pull offensive too offensive lineman around the edge I just call it sweep yeah I think they might have like two different concepts that they're using there that are like slightly different from one another but I to me it's not worth getting you get so bogged down in the minutiae especially if you're doing this where you're just charting inside outside counter power sweep you don't need to like go super crazy yeah like for anybody it says outside zone 11 carries right they ran stretch they ran at least four different versions of outside zone they ran like split outside zone with the tight end working back across the formation they ran outside zone from the spread with no one blocking the back side end they did outside zone from the spread with the back two defense offensive lineman working back and then the other three outside zone blocking the opposite direction they run it with tight ends without pulling one to the back side so it's very multiple yeah yeah it would be this chart would be incomprehensible if you try to put every variation but I think it's still did out where a predominantly outside zone team and then we'll talk about how that particularly marries with our favorite power run scheme to the things can look kind of similar to opposing defenses split outside zone is probably like the bread and butter play this team yeah can you explain split outside zone to people just what the key component is what what's happening with the tight end there my uh when yours portrait deal from the Oklahoma game just fell down oh no it's a bad moment if i have a bad moment will Gallagher got that for me it's awesome shout out will our amazing photographer yeah i was on inside Texas that's uh that's will yeah that's all will um he's terrific would you ask me oh yeah split outside zone you have a tight end it's off the line of scrimmage in the backfield he may be like almost back like a full back or he might be like just off the line on the on the wings and then the play starts in the line all zone blocks one direction his side of the field and he works back across to the other side that they're opposite the direction the linemen are moving and they leave the backside edge player unblocked and he goes and blocks them yep well surely one of these gifts is uh well it has a split action yeah the key of out of zone running is you leave that backside defender unblocked and so the offense has to decide what to do with him if he's a slow non-athlete you can just leave him unblocked and you don't think he's gonna be able to chase down the running back from the backside at college level you play a lot of good defensive end so you need someone to come and block him and then the flip on a power run roughly you're gonna leave the front side guy unblocked temporarily until you bring the guy around so it's all about what do you do with the front side end on the power run what do you do with the back side end on the zone run roughly yep all right this should be one here i think surely yeah because i see him he the tight end is set up like he's gonna do split zone yes because there's two tight ends on this play no there's no there's no there's no there's no tight end on this side on this play and uh he's it's this is helm yeah this is helm online right here and then this is uh Davis back here it's actually an unbalanced formation uh there's no one on the other side of the field where Juan Davis is so that means that gunner helm is not allowed to get down field or he's an ineligible receiver that's not going to come up on this play but just so people know it's just a little just a fun fact just to try to get bigger for you okay so watch Davis here the offensive line the assumption here is they're going to zone left everyone's going to take a step to the left and then they're going to climb to these backers here but or not or not if they yeah if they doesn't go well but uh Davis will come back around this side and he'll block this end right here i don't know if that's weaver it might be leaver mmm probably yes the great thing about split outside zone for this team is that if you watch the block Davis through here it's not a block it's it's more of an ola he's just he's just i'm gonna make sure this guy can't make a play on the backside that's all i gotta do i don't need to drive him i don't need to move him anywhere i don't even need to hit him i just need to make sure i'm a speed bump he does i'm a speed bump or i i'm in the way so this really suits um if you have a team that is uh if you have a team that is uh heavy on receiving tight ends that may or may not be about that life in the blocking game then this this is one of a few run concepts that is very helpful because the ask of the tight end is not that it's not that big yep so let's watch it again pay attention guys to the what we're saying with the motion of the tight end coming back all across the line because it's going to complement the next play we're showing you and it's going to show you why defenses can get kind of confused and how you can marry multiple schemes together no plane isolation matters in football it matters how they marry with each other that's what confuses defenses so we're watching this tight end motion coming back around to block this in they're going to always leave this backside defender unblocked in a zone run done like we said Davis gets in the way good job okay now let's explain this is going to be why counter right yeah okay so if we look we have the tight end again in the grave digger here in the wing whatever you want he's offset from the line the reason why he's offset from the line is so he can have backfield action like we just saw in zone he can come across the line now you're going to see a similar thing where the tight end is also going to come across the line but they're running a different run concept called counter which is a power run versus a zone run he and very basically can you explain what a counter run is counter runs and power runs are almost the exact same thing but on a power run your uh tight end or full back kicks out the unblocked edge and your guard pulls around and leads for a linebacker on counter the guard kicks out the unblocked edge in the tight end or full back lead for the linebacker yep that's it so the difference here in zone if we were running a zone run everyone is going to step to the left if we're looking at this example they're all going to step to the left and then the tight end would be right here and the tight end would come back around it and a power run or a counter run technically powers its own concept but in a gap scheme is a better term for it this you're going to see this line actually block it down so they're all going to come this way that's going to allow one of probably the guard here or tackle how gt however they run it is going to come around he's going to get this end here and then the tight end is going to wrap up and come to this front sideline linebacker in theory yep so we just saw zone where they step left tight end goes right and then where you saw this example of counter where the line is going to step right tight end is going to go left it looks similar the only major difference idea is one of these linemen are going to pull and that lineman doesn't pull in zone so DJ Campbell comes and blocks out that end we'll run it back again okay so DJ Campbell right guard is going to pull around back here he's going to smack this end helms going to follow and he's going to wrap up this B gap and he's supposed to get to this linebacker here for yep he does or clean up whatever he finds yeah it can be what a most dangerous man yeah whoever can make the play but that's what we're saying that's interesting with these concepts outside zone can end up looking like power and when you have these two things running opposite directions but still complimenting each other because they're still visually similar minus a pulling guard and that's what can make it tough for linebackers and stuff like that to ID counters my favorite counters your favorite counter is extremely important for texas because you'll if you watch on an enormous percentage of texas's deep play action plays they pull a guard around like it's counter and that's supposed to suck the linebackers in that are like okay moving gap i need to go get there or i'm going to get run over and then instead of leaning around the edge the guard weights on the edge and serves like a left tackle in space to protect that backside and the quarterback you know gets a deep drop and chucks it down the field nope yeah fans if you ever wonder why you see that weird pass protection or you got i mean people drop sinners or guards but they'll drop them outside and you'll be like why would you do that in pass protection that seems like a lot of work it's it's tricking them into thinking as part of the run game and they have a bunch of screens also where they pull the guard it looks like it's like okay it's play it's a run play oh wait no it's play action they're going to check it deep oh wait no it's the tight end or running back screen and now we have to go tackle them after we've already yo-yoed back and forth you know yep yeah it's probably the best place in the playbook yeah those screens yeah yeah definitely when it comes to creativity man and like you said when you're layering it down getting making them be wrong three times that is really impressive so okay here's the thesis we saw a really good run game um some of it was backs but most of it was just really we had sound blocking but i also want to stress this again i think it's this play let's see how dedicated these linebackers are to actually stopping the run i think it's this play let's see there's not a lot of effort there they'll step up this is just this is filling your gap this is doing your job you won't get yelled at in film on monday but this is not an inspired run defense right here well this is also the fourth quarter after they've already been run on when they've been beat to death in in defensive kentucky yeah and thank you for defending them because they're they're kind of going through the motions there at the end on that final drive and you're right it could be them be down but i remember just kind of watching through the game and being like man we're running all over them at will and then being like they're also not really playing for stoops currently so how does this how do you think this projects i guess going forward do you see this level of success versus a&m that's the question i probably not right right i i the thing in a game like this is that the other team is put in time and preparation on your playbook that other teams haven't like when we when we played oklahoma last year and they were just absolutely swarming everything and they looked like danny studsman was in the back field half the game yeah uh studsman is i think is uniquely good at that but i i think this game is going to be more like that where they are flying downhill on all of your run blitzing and run blitzing and we're just like reaction so fast that it looks like they're run blitzing because they know exactly where to be no and um they i think are going to be a little more inspired up front than kentucky was they yes yes they will i can tell you right now they'll be more inspired thinking if they're not thank god but that is playing a lot cleaner in the run game i i don't know that they're going to get just erased in the run game but it's it's i don't i don't think it's going to be no 260 yards either so i love your southern draw today man i don't think it ain't gonna be no 260 yards but you got to mix it in every now and then and then you're back next to it it sounds it sounds like a a little bit wiser if you give it uh real common southern and it does it does uh yeah so good stuff from the run game i feel good about it clean good reps do i know how it'll carry over i don't know if it'll carry over that well but regardless it's still something we saw that's important right it would be different if we didn't so you're ready let's look at oh david mcclellan what is this other ad in the quarter i know it's just literally abortion abortion abortion geez it's like not ideal man not ideal yeah on three b tripping me out sometimes all right let's hear a word from david mcclellan i'm just gonna say it guys you probably need a fiduciary financial advisor and i've got the guy for you alum dad's from oklahoma mom's from dallas great great great great great uncle all over loving of the good night loving trail uh that's cool so i have got i'm i'm notified yeah he's the real thing he was just living up there for a while so i was just up in michigan for like a decade okay sorry it's all good man give your credentials texas has had the easiest schedule of any SEC team this year but it's still much better than other day in miami smu indiana ten and two texas is in i agree well it looks like x everybody's losing yeah um i i'm with paul i'm increasingly annoyed by the loss call and bias in all of this or it's like well you can't put this three-loss team ahead of this two-loss team it's like well why not well because three losses is worse than two losses well then play the same teams like i i'm watching i've been watching the being in south carolina game and uh i i think i'm hoping that there's a scenario where south carolina gets some of the playoffs because to me that's one of the best twelve teams in the country they're scary and they're huge i don't want to play them right let's keep indian let's not go put in south carolina in there for no re we want to keep a couple of the the easy win so let's keep Boise State in there let's keep indiana in there the the acc squads are a joke um nelson says klimson number 12 is a joke absolutely klimson is a paper tiger but don't worry too much about that because south carolina's gonna eat him alive uh this weekend anyway and then that'll be that for that whole stupid klimson deal notar dame i'm a little bit i'm actually coming around a little bit on notar dame here let's save this we'll do this we'll do this we'll do this we'll do this we'll do this well yeah when we see of p rankings let's hit it's ryan's fault it's not my fault it's not your fault they and you guys know better than to get ean going on that you know how he feels about his rankings uh we'll cover that in a few though so a&m run game power run game what's the what's the big issue what happened to a&m's run game that made it far less potent they lost lavion moss that's it that's it yeah well and they lost rubino ends too right yep i don't know how good rubino ends would have been this year but no one does because he didn't play because he got hurt no amari daniels is just not really a big volume future-back kind of guy he's like uh he's decent but and they have like one of the scariest things about them now is that marsall reed is an awesome runner did you watch him in high school i can only imagine what it would have looked like in high school he's like just impossible to tackle in space he must have dominated but um if you don't let him get into space then he's yeah 180 pounds right and then all of his weapons are are neutralized i think the scariest thing for texas is a team that can get downhill double team get some push force your linebackers to fit force the texas linebackers to fit the run aggressively and then just somebody that can just push board and fall forward for consistent gains like florida did i think a team that did that to texas would be a little bit of trouble similar to kind of the what the end of the arkansas game whenever jakwenden powerback was able to lean on us a little bit florida did it a little bit arkansas did it a little bit kentucky did it a little bit at times as well they're just inconsistent um i don't think texas is like bad at it but they're you could you could theoretically attack them that way and uh a&m is just not built for it without moss yeah yeah the inside running is less effective so we had is it was read their leading rushor um in south carolina right i think you have 16 carries for 46 yards or something like that with daniel's only having 13 uh rudda it's an article so right here yeah auburn no daniel's had 27 for 90 yeah so he led an auburn and i know marcell yeah yeah so that's interesting are they gonna keep kind of doing that stuff um i kind of have to yeah let's pull these runs so what is interesting i don't know if it's mid they run midline option but sometimes i mean you'll see them go through the agap too i'd have to look at the concept um but they'll they'll do marcell read as inside runner now of course he's not gonna like you know cover up and he's not actually doing that they're pretty wide open but it is interesting to see marcell read's run ability let's check this out this is a perfect example this is counter right guard poles for the unblocked guy and then tied in leads and the nasty feature of it is that they have a running back in motion and your linebackers like to key the running back but you can't key the running back for one he's lined up a receiver so that's tricky and for another he's going outside he's not the featured runner the featured runner is the quarterback so it's for as a linebacker you have to be ready for that that's very different it seems like Auburn that wasn't really necessarily the problem for Auburn maybe a little bit the guy on top you see him chasing the motion yep and then that's pretty that's pretty fun because if they get you if they run it to the boundary let's see how he does it if he gets it in yep so they got they're getting man and they're running to the boundary and then they're taking that linebacker they're pulling that corner so now they've lost complete force they have no edge and so this line this wide receiver can now come block here and you have the edge easily so if they catch you in man they'll do it to the boundary and then they can get that corner see they're already out leveraged here so he can marcell read so here's the trick the unblocked end spills the ball he actually gets loose for a second you gotta you want to box that in which is tricky because they can run it to either side with the quarterback but if you box that in then now marcell read has to pick his way through the scrum in the middle and that's what she want him to have to do because he's not going to he's not going to be able to do that very well yeah but he spills it where they have no force because the motion and now you have even if you did you have marcell read in space which is the opposite of where you want marcell read so this is actually a downhill power run scheme but he gets to bounce it outside and it's not because he's freelancing that's like the right read and then he's just a terrorist out there so yeah so marcell read and so you got to be aware of their play design they have some smart play design and then read being able to get outside is going to be tricky because they're not going to have a ton of success running up the gut just because they don't have the personnel for it so i've seen amari daniels when they he has had success inside running it's because teams will fit the run and then there'll be like a gap open and amari daniels has good closing speed so if he hits that gap untouched he can go for like 60 yards that's where i've seen his long runs on the inside but it's not like that they're bruising guys and bouncing and bouncing off guys up the middle then what is this one let's see this one is it's like outside zone yep or is it actually it's like pin and pull out yeah it's a yeah it's a sweep because they're pulling this back side guard here in the front side guard quarterback sweep and again they have the running back go one way in the quarterback the running back takes the outside path and the quarterback takes the inside path which in an ideal world animes would have a lot more plays where read is on the outside path they would flip it yep like when you have a power runner at quarterback it really affords all kinds of different opportunities like uh uh for texas fans sam elinger was like that especially at west lake at west lake sam elinger had his junior year he ran the ball like 230 times and they could use him as the power runner inside and then they didn't need another power back they could get some fast guy to threaten the parameter and elinger was their featured runner um so big big question with this style of outside running is that a good match up for them it's awful okay yeah so why is it awful is it because texas is strong laterally on defense texas is strong laterally on defense they are designed to box plays in outside with edges and uh like texas's preference is to say we're not going to let you get off tackle you're going to have to earn your runs the hard way inside on our defensive tackles and it's not quite as dominant as it was last year when the into when the tackles were Byron Murphy and uh tavandri sweat but it's still pretty bad and as we've been saying like moss jacquindin jackson jaden ball or uh or that jacobie lane for florida those big powerbacks they could like get some push on texas and do a little bit of damage daniels and read are just not that guy i think read in particular if he gets boxed in and he gets and he has to turn inside and take like gut shots from the linebackers or get dragged to the ground by defensive lineman a bunch of times in this game i don't i think that's like a nightmare for them right like he could just get hurt first of all and if he's not hurt it might hurt you know and he might his eyes might get big and he might start uh playing lesson control in the run or the past because he's thinking like i gotta get i gotta get away from those dudes right yeah yeah this is more clearly a factor on both sides what do you say will be a factor this this this uh hurting the quarterback and making the quarterback antsy i think will be e to both efforts yeah i i in my breakdown someone asked me my breakdowns coming out it's coming out tomorrow morning you'll have it for your eat some turkey and watch it please but there's a chance this is low scoring that both defenses can frustrate the opposing offenses which i think will be interesting but that's the a&m run game it's not a great match up for them marcel read is a good running quarterback so is tail and green we were able to shut that down uh pavi is not the athlete of either one of those two like testing wise but pavi was able to run recently and with scheme we didn't see that a ton so texas has had some kind of proxy battles prior they can give us some hints that uh we shouldn't see marcel read running all over us unless we get a little bit sloppy it's all fun and games don't handle puts the fear of god and read yeah i think it's so weird is why do people keep calling out anthony hill it's such a weird choice you know it's like because also anthony's a nice guy like you see him on camera and he's he's a happy go lucky dude it's just i think it's probably of name recognition right anthony hill is really well known but it's like weird like why why him i do imagine if you're like an opposing team and you put the film on and it's like okay here's anthony hill leads the team in sax nationally renowned limebacker five star athlete out of high school blah blah blah and then you watch him and then you're like this guy's not even that good at some of the basic linebacker things yeah is what they're that's what they're seeing that's remember this was like gay bikers deal too right right and it's kind of true like he's still not great at like some basic linebacker stuff he's just like waits to see the play and then he closes and makes you know and so they do that and they're like well this guy's not so great Texas ain't so great but then you play them and you find out that just this doesn't really matter that much and that the stuff that he does well is cancels it all out and stacks you for 14 yards yeah you're like running loose and then he's chasing you and you're like oh this is the guy that is a little bit hesitant in his run reads and he's like well he's not hesitant right now he knows exactly where the ball is you know yeah yeah they get too they're very obsessed with the actual run fit part and i've heard multiple people mention it and you see it even with the younger right we'll kind of overrun our fit sometimes like the Jamarion Wilcox versus Kentucky that was linebackers overfitting the young guy on that one but we our linebackers sometimes aren't great with like the the technical side of run stopping but Anthony Hill is a freak and he's gonna erase 40 yards 50 yards from your offense so it ends out what is this Jay saying he grates is the top linebacker in the country yeah but he grates is top linebacker in the country i think he's very solid on run fits he's not though i can see the run fits yeah i don't know who's grading that but you got to take those with a grain of salt i don't think LaFalle is the one that has the bigger issues with the fit so i think i don't know maybe maybe i'd agree that LaFalle has bigger issues but yeah yeah okay i think you've worked i mean but not a crazy yeah you'd literally have to go watch everything um but yeah that's really the play we argued with us and then we got drew in there and we were all trying to figure it out i think it ended up being what you said and it was actually Hill that had a over run it on that one about you know one play yeah only finding as long as leon go doesn't jump for gaps while i'm seeing the running back why i think that's tough way to stay disciplined too man like because a lot of the times in high school these guys are such good athletes they hunt running backs not gaps and it's hard to teach them to be sound you know and sometimes it doesn't matter also uh the rivalry game is different because like like i said this is a game where you have an entire season of tape on the other team it's basically like a championship game the de facto championship game it's a de facto semi-final but even if it even if it didn't have those stakes it's often you play it like that um and you've been studying this team off and on maybe for the entire season depending on your coach's strategy so you're going to see everything a lot faster you like you could maybe like a good veteran linebacker playing in like his senior game and a rivalry which texas doesn't have that this year but if they did could probably like sketch out for you most of the other team's run game arsenal and how he would fit and defend each one yeah so it's just a different it's a different deal yeah all right y'all before we talk playoffs i know you're rearing to go i i love doing it i just know that it's so silly because it changes right yeah so here's what we got so right now in the bias we have Boise State silly Oregon big 10 Miami ACC Texas in the lead right now for the SEC what in the what's tripping you up Arizona State yeah Boise State with a buy yes that should not be the case yeah i knew i knew this is gonna be good they're they're like a Vegas underdog against any of these teams um maybe they really just don't want a playoff game in uh in the blue field or something i don't know but you figure they should be like a they should be like the 12 seeds so well it's insane that the 11th ranked team in the country gets a buy in the playoffs i get that we had to placate everybody the the smaller the smaller conferences and say like look we're gonna auto bid you guys that way you won't get left out but this is absurd the 11th team in the country getting to sit out doesn't make any sense Tanner Ryerson says crazy how much easier the five seed path is than the one seed i was writing about this last like march or whatever when they dropped this i was like guys the structure of the playoff means that inevitably the five seed will get a crap conference champion in the second round and a crap conference a little tiny school conference champion in the first round yeah the incentive structure here is totally messed up it doesn't make any sense there's like being the fifth seed is is where you want to be because you're not going to have a tough game as long as you're the you know a big dog you're not going to have a tough game until semifinals yep you have to play him though which is one more game for you know will Howard to get hurt or something so yeah the entry risk but also it's like what's worse buy play a really good team or two whatever games i feel like you kind of equal out there so it's um yeah the instead of structures is totally screwed up here i know what deals we had to make so the big 12 and ACC and everybody would go along with it you know but it's time to pull the rug you know we were inherently dishonest and now we're seeing that uh there's a lot of there's a lot of stuff in this one that's pretty crappy like Georgia Tennessee rematch in the first round that's boring that's lame also uh what what let's say Texas beats A&M it's not maybe it's not that hard whatever they they they win by hook or crook when or the other and they're healthy what is the spread in Texas versus Georgia and Atlanta um in Atlanta spot him three right there well Texas will travel though yeah but it's still home base for Georgia like that's Atlanta i don't think it's a full three for that but one and a half or two i would say quin like seven i don't know six something like that for me what do you think who who's favored with well emotionally to me Georgia's favored because i saw what their defense did to our offense but i don't know what Vegas would do i i favor Georgia even with their sketchy offense Georgia Georgia minus two Georgia minus one but they have it's i can see it pick them but i'm i'm just i'm having flashbacks right now dude if yeah i think for us it's kind of hard but my instinct is that Georgia's is favored if they're not favored then i would be and if they if they were not favored and i were a betting man i would be tempted to to bet on Georgia but they have Texas in the tc that's just kind of i guess it's because they have fewer conference losses it's this whole thing is just so these weeks or so yeah Oregon gets the number one seed and gets rewarded by playing Georgia that's why it's so yeah silly this doesn't the incentive structure here is totally screwed up you've given the fifth seed the easiest pass you've allowed the 11th ranked team in the country to get a buy you also have the um like if you're Oregon and if this was going to be the the bracket you'd be like let's throw the big 10 championship get the five seed yeah dude and then if we play Ohio state again it'll be in the semi-final and we can go wreck him if that's for real like strategically it'll never happen but if you were you know a general in the army you would you would consider some of these things that's how silly it is um and then you have the number 16th team in the country which there's on the state making it at number 12 in Arizona state they've had a fun season um but it's still it doesn't make any sense when the 16th ranked team in the country makes a play out it just doesn't make any sense so um i know we have to include the big 12 because we made that promise but we don't in the future we don't have to include teams that don't have to be there i don't think when do you think the coup happens and we stop living this lie Ian after next year they have the contract for this for two years and then the next year we'll get the 14 team playoff with the two two only two buys um is also why is Arizona state assumed to be the big 12 champion they're ranked higher than the ranked higher than Colorado's or because Colorado lost more recently yeah they lost to Kansas yeah but again this whole thing is just so annoying because it's just there's lost column bias and then there's recency bias if Colorado plays Arizona state tomorrow on a neutral field whoa then who's who's favored i don't know probably Colorado but i also i like Arizona state i mean but i've also only watched them play Texas state so i am not qualified here i'm just saying he should be there i like they're running back man that boy that boy runs have you watched them play yes i just yeah versus Texas state at the beginning of the season a little bit they have a good they have a good run game scataboe yeah scataboe back is awesome and that's pretty much it's kind of like they remind me of Oklahoma state last year where it's like overall solid team plus star running back yeah uh who was it for it was that guy's name i already forgot and Texas like erased him in the big 12 champions holy gordon holy gordon yeah how would you organize the structure to ensure that the top four seeds in conference champion games still hold weight love y'all's work glad i'm an IT member appreciate your i would just do what they're going to do which is have expand to 14 have only the top two seeds get a buy the top two seeds will invariably be the two conference champions and then if you want it it'll be big 10 and SEC they'll get a buy if you want the other conference championship games to matter then you can say that the committee has to choose at least four or five conference champions and the four or five highest ranked conference champions are in the playoffs automatically but now you could have it where if the ACC champion is like SMU or something you don't have to slot them into a top four seed you can put them like 11 or whatever right or or 12 or 13 now um so i i think that's a pretty easy fix this one was a consolation for winning the big 12 is the millions of dollars you get from the extra game so i don't think the game actually ends up this is what's interesting ADs want to play this first round home game because you get to pack out DKR you get a playoff home game so the weirdest part also is there's a financial disincentive here because it's actually that buy is good for your team hopefully you can get farther you'll make more money but the reality is too like you want this home game in the first round it's also i found kind of interesting there's weird the incentives are all going different directions here it's a mess a lot i don't know how do you how do you make winning the big 12 and ACC matter i mean making the playoffs yeah but they're already likely going to make the playoffs anyways and that's generally no but like if you're um if you want the conference championship game to matter if you're Colorado or Arizona state and you're nine and two um are you in without the conference championship automatic qualifier maybe maybe not i mean technically today no right now no there so there you go yeah so that's a pretty easy fix i i don't really think it's that complicated it the problem with this is that they designed it before we went from a power four to a power two right this this was already written this was already in the books before oklahoma and texas left and before Oregon and and in us yeah can we talk about i'm just gonna change the topic a little bit on this you end up going mask off and just being like we don't care if you win the big 12 and ACC like you know because the because ESPN owns the uh championship games right yeah they're so they're financial instead of you know Disney's looking to sell ESPN yeah also uh i don't think i i think the conference championship games should matter so why but i'm saying the schedules are unbalanced like the the big 12 is like 30 teams now so having the best record or the best ranking after the end of the big 12 season is not as meaningful anymore like in round unless you play that game unless you play that game and prove it against the other team that did the best because otherwise the unbalanced scheduling is just like a huge or it even matters in the SEC for texas this year in that yeah you know respect texas because also if we beat a and m right a and m's ranked whatever if you beat a and m they're gonna drop low so a and m's win once they get beat won't even look that good and so basically texas has to beat georgia to beat the allegations of of weak scheduling so i i agree i think there's is some value in how unbalanced these conference schedules are and i was gonna say schedule them to where they're more balanced but there's no way to always know who's gonna rise and who's not gonna rise and blah blah blah i think even if texas knocks a and m down to eight and four um texas going into a and m and winning that game i think is nothing to sniff at and then i'll think i don't think it'll be poo poo like online by posing fan bases of course of course it'll be degrading yeah but in the eyes of the committee or objective observers i think it'll mean something if texas goes into consultation and wins um what do you think about uh texas a and m beats texas and then loses the SEC championship game and they're out and they're are they out are they in um that would put them to a four losses right yeah put them at nine and four and put them at nine and four with a win over a number three team where are they ranked currently chat can you tell me they're like 15th or something i don't see okay ryan nelson says a and m is out with four losses you can't that's not fair you can't look at it as a four loss a and m team because they're a three loss a and m team that happen to have to play the big the SEC champion which is in all likelihood as team in the country yeah so i don't think you can count the losses in the SEC championship game unless there's a huge context right like if you could be by 40 i think then you have to start counting these games other than that no but also a and m has we have the weakest schedule i think a and m second to last a and m hasn't played georgia tennessee any of the tops alabama whatever so a and m with three losses i know it's an SEC schedule but it's it's not it's not when we're talking about when we're arguing georgia and tennessee and even bama being in so that's my thing with a and m on a three loss is this is not a particularly hard schedule for them uh it's just the same thing uh to me like if texas has three losses i'm not putting texas in so it's that's my argument with a and m so uh the argument then is that three loss a and m is out and that their only path in is to win the SEC championship correct which i i think is fair which i think is fair too i think that's fair too but yeah because if dude ten and two texas there's arguments to leave texas out because of the schedule not sec but if they lose versus a and m right that means they play georgia got beat and then their second highest rank got beat um so there's arguments to kick texas out with two losses so i'm absolutely kicking a and m out with three losses because they also play a super weak schedule one thing about texas is that uh uh i'm pulling this up real quick if you look at fei right now at ten and one texas has the 14th ranked offense and the second ranked defense texas slipped to number two and fei and defense but they didn't really slip Notre Dame tied them and caught them so they have the exact same score because Notre Dame caught them i guess they vault to number one whatever my point is that texas has been whipping teams like they're not playing good teams but the teams they're playing they're they're dominating and controlling the games so like if you're the committee looking at that i think that counts for something like it's not like um it's not like a big 12 champion that's like uh tcu with all these uh one possession game victories yeah you know although tce beat michigan but um it's not like that it this this is a they're controlling games i think that would to me that would mean something if you're trying to project which teams are going to show out in the playoffs and actually be worthy of inclusion yeah i think it's fair if if anem loses absolutely out if they beat texas and lose and the sead championship still out but if they beat of course then they the auto bid path is fair because you can't having three losses against the bottom half of the sec is not the same as having three losses against the top half of the sec um anem's losses would be south carolina who actually i think south carolina should be in the playoffs they have a good run um lsu they have a shot they have a shot at sneaking in lsu who since that loss has proven to be worse than we thought they kind of throw the wagon the wheels came off the wagon for lsu yeah and then noter dame which like we said we just talked about has an elite defense um but that team also lost to niu the following week but apparently that doesn't matter anymore you can still be number five in the country losing to a six and five g five by the way not some like special g five team um well i haven't i was thought about noter dame in a minute um but uh yeah anem it hurts that they had like two big road games against upper mid-level sec teams and lost both of them yeah so they have dallas u dub which was sick that was was that a home though that was at home yep okay you know there's a sneak in there's a scenario where texas anem beats texas loses to georgia but still makes it in for the same reason i said texas could lose to kentucky and still make it in yeah which is that all these other 12 team all these other 11 teams on this list can still play and lose games guys who's their highest ranked win right now in the sec anem yeah they don't have any top 25s like texas right uh current top 25 yeah current top 25 i who they even played they played uh arkansas uh mizuri lsu all right mizuri that was a pretty big win mizuri throw like eight and four and nine and three right and how they beat them i think is more valuable than how good mizuri is there's a lot of at this year where the home team has just jumped on the other team yeah like self-care l i never say anem or uh no it cracks me up on uh anem schedule they've they have not changed the rank of when they beat the team so mizuri it's still ninth in the country according to anem and lsu is still eighth in the country well sometimes people do that like sometimes we could sometimes a list will have that because it's like they're ranking when you play them i know but it means that means nothing uh it's interesting stuff okay so they're best win i think they're best win lsu maybe mizu i would say miz day we're ready for hot take yeah i'm always ready for ean hot take man i don't i don't love that Notre Dame matchup for texas what what are you worried about offensively just us getting shut down by the defense and what do you worry about the Notre Dame offense shut down by the Notre Dame defense and then uh uh give up 20 or more to that power run game because Notre Dame actually has like they have the powerful inside runner they have a second one in their quarterback like the power run defense is the relative weakness but we're still seventh in the country and opponent yards per rush we're just like not number one you know so it's like it's like it's a relative weakness but it's not is it a true weakness you get what i'm saying like that's how you would attack texas but all it seems only marginal but let's say your teams do the power run but they put together like one drive of power running you know it's like what do you think i'm okay but if you if you're trying to get to like 20 on texas and that's your bar where you can win then it's like noter does noter dame have a path to 20 absolutely and then on the flip side could noter dame uh do what georgia did to the texas offense well maybe so right do they have that level of do they have that caliber of athlete do they have a walker in mike l Williams like do they have two first rounders well they have those tackles who are a huge problem yeah but what tackles have what tackles have wrecked us all season uh that george wands um but i felt that was more edge no i mean they're the what's this they're knows did well but i i think seven was beasting the texas that's whenever he took uh campbell and just threw him to the side a couple times yeah but i'm talking about as far as like getting people on the ground it felt like that was mike l and they have big fast they have big fast linebackers they have uh marcus freeman secondary i mean they're they're tied with texas now for the top ranked uh defense they obliterated army it was probably overrated i was gonna say that's a little bit of uh we just like it's like indiana people just like the story it was fun to watch and it was fun to watch brison daily run over the sunvelder the aca see whatever but uh they obliterated them so it's possible ryan nelson that texas would shut down other dame but it's also possible that they could just kind of hang in the game and hammer away with lynard and uh who's the running back love jeremy love is a big powerful back jeremy so there's jeremy love has 850 rushing yards at 70 yards to carry with 14 rushing touchdowns and then riley lynard has 671 rushing yards at 6 yards per carry with 13 touchdowns and then their next back off the bench jdarian price has 540 at 7 yards per carry in six touchdowns yeah that's pretty impressive at their yards per carry i'll give them that they're feasting on bad teams but it's like the same as the texas defense right it can only we've feasted on bad offenses a lot yeah so i i just think that that's i think that that's people are dismissing notar name too easily on my sub stack today i'm going to note that like normally i would say the top spread passing attack with the best receivers usually wins the championship i don't know if there's a team quite like that this year and all the defenses are catching up to the point where it's getting really hard to win with passing and you could win by zagging like michigan did last year if you're looking for a team on this list that could be like we're gonna play awesome defense you're not going to light us up no matter what you do and then we have a run game that can be consistent and be there for us every single week and steal possessions from you and steal possessions then the teams that fit that description are notar name and that's it i was gonna say and notar name right so that i mean just sleep on irish it's your own peril i'm sleeping on them no i n i u lost will ever be forgiven i will delete all the other 12 data points of context i only need one point of context there and that's that your floor is horrendous for charles not Boise state because Boise state has no defense yeah they're kind of uh that's crazy to me dude number 11 in the country cannot get a buy that's crazy that's crazy to me and crazy disrespectful to the big 12 as well that's kind of funny it is funny they don't even have without Arizona state getting shoehorned in the big 12 is not even represented in the top 12 teams in the country which is funny yeah so am i more scared of miami's playstyle or notar name's playstyle uh probably miami cutter bully was putting in some some throws on us for whatever reason that i was like hey what's going on here and i think notar name's a better team so it's like you play miami you play miami three times and they beat you once but they beat you by 30 they like whoop you in it you play notar name three times maybe you win all three but each one of them is a nail biter and you're like and you're like i'm glad we don't have to play him a fourth time yeah yeah oh man all right we won't get to see you again i don't think until we'll see you on deep dive but we won't get any live interactions because tomorrow we're not having a live show because it's going to be thanksgiving so right now gut right a round table live 10 a.m okay you'll do the yeah you'll be on that so you'll give your game prediction there what's your cursory basic feeling on texas a name right now uh i have been unable to talk myself into being particularly afraid of anan i i went into this thing like i'm not you're not afraid of them all that all the trends are like so like can they can they attack texas's weaknesses on defense no not really um can they are they like anan spiritual vibes they lost to auburn but they still have a lot of stake in this game and if they have a lot of stake in this game then you figure that the Aggies blow it that's their that's their deal i i had said like if the Aggies lose to auburn look out they could be texas but then they they snuck back in where they have a chance you know yeah i wanted them to win auburn by like 20 you know i wanted them fat and happy it doesn't they might as well be fat and happy because they can uh they can uh go to the championship agreement um Aggie defense i'm still i'm still studying the Aggie defense but i've just seen a couple things so they're the worst like one of the worst explosive defenses in the country like in 130th so they're really good down to down like success rate they can really frustrate you but you can run you can drop a 80 yard run and you can drop an 80 yard pass on them um it's not really texas's strengths like cam Coleman like Quinn's not throwing the post and hitting guys on the run Quinn's not throwing the fade and hitting guys um that's just really not how we play um but as far as like giving it to bond he slips a tackle and runs for 60 that can kind of happen the flip side is does that defensive line because that defensive line's not as good as they say it is statistically but they still do a great job moving guys off their spot so like Nuss Myers one of the better pressure to sack rate quarterbacks he had to move a lot when they played he had a good first half they started to get to him later Sellers shrugged off like eight sacks um there are absolute sacks on Quinn 100 of the time um so we don't have that big body and then Peyton Thorne was able to get mobile so all this stuff i hear people men like Auburn and South Carolina beat them to death it's like yeah but that's not our style of quarterbacking that beat that they lost to yep so that's the that's the last uh concern is is if Quinn goes into that game and he is dinged up still with the ankle which we don't have a lot of clarity on some of the like eric is hinted at this the rumors that have been swirling about about Quinn or like it's it almost sounds like somebody's trying to to smoke out a rat in the athletic department or something um well you just do that with a color you'd be like he wore a blue cast and you tell the other guy he what he wore a red cast and that's how you figure out who it is to me i thought he was in pretty good shape until he looked to me like he was in good normal quin shape until the ankle thing against A&M against uh Kentucky and then it was obviously uh in that shape um ankle sucked too man because there's no way of getting around him like you can heal up now you can tour it all up you can rest up but i also don't want my quarterback resting this week i want him getting a ton of reps a hundred percent um did he practice Monday do we know i have not checked but didn't sark say in the press or like we expect him to practice which is it was up to quin or something it was the weirdest uh i don't know that's a that's a big question mark i would feel pretty good about arch in this game if he was prepared a lot in advance i do not feel great about arch getting dropped into that shark tank if he's not why would i why would yeah i don't forget about that at all so the the whole quarterback question is is the question like kurt texas just throw this game by being uh also quin when he's hurt on the field he'd start his play really deteriorates fast yep so uh the it's it so is it about quin or is it about the offensive line it's about when i mean they're gonna get i think if they protect him like kentucky it's about the offensive line they they protected him like kentucky against oklahoma and he's still that's true but he didn't even have to move versus kentucky dude he literally just stop and just throw and i loved it and he had a fun we still had a fumble six you know yeah yeah yeah but prior to that our horrific play uh it was interesting that that's my biggest thing man is like he wanted to line protect him but if quin's being asked to move off his spot a bunch of time and his legs hurt that's not a good combination i think he's gonna i think quin really wants this too so i i think he'll fight like mad to try to win this game oh yeah yeah like that to be the court to like to grow up as a texas fan and then be the guy that gets the lead texas back to anm with scc conference title like man that's what it's about dude that's like playing in your backyard what you're thinking about yeah his ankles dinged up but he's still gonna he's still gonna do everything he can to drag his team across yeah how do you feel about um how long do you think we've been repping this game how long do you think anm has been repping the game the bi-week same here i do you feel the same for anm because anm was like bi-week new mexico auburn who they lost too but probably didn't expect to lose too so i feel like anm's had like a solid four weeks on it i feel like we've had a solid four weeks on it um lucci was saying that anm has concepts we haven't seen i'm sure we have concepts they haven't seen so i it's gonna be fun man um because both teams have had now no one will ever admit it but both teams have had ample time to start plotting on each other so yep it's exciting man it's uh it's fun well that's the great equalizer anyway i i think texas totally has anm outmatched the big question mark is if they get a quarterback meltdown then all bets are off you know what's tough is um listening to the interviews to some of these kids they're not kids they're young men but kids in this sense like the media keeps asking them like do you understand how important this game is you know they're like saying it kind of around and like golden's like yeah man it's two big teams in texas like it's got to be a big deal it's like no golden it's not just two big teams in texas because these players haven't seen it you know so it's it's interesting like watching them i don't know if they understand what this game is and that they will learn what it is on both sides but it's not the i don't think they fully get it i think they're just like oh yeah it's a really big match up two texas teams like all that sir kenita terrific quote about this that i caught right he was like he was asked about like the stakes of a game like this and he was like you know we've had former players come and talk to him and he's like i found that i actually don't necessarily like to do that because a former player will come into the locker room and start telling everybody about his experience playing oklahoma reina in the past and they'll get like weepy and emotional and intense it's kind of like hold on i this is too much i don't want my kids to be thinking carrying this burden i don't want them to carry this because we know that like me and you can remember all the big moments from a&m games and red river shootouts of years past and the guys that played in those games will carry those with them you know their whole lives right yeah whether or not you want your team to be thinking that way going into the game is an interesting question it seems like sark is like maybe not yeah but it is funny watching the media like try they're trying to warn the players of like you got to get it watch them at the media availability it's really funny and how would they know man it's been 13 years they're 19 so it's like of course they don't know if you go up to a if you go up to a night 18 to 22 year old and you and you ask them do you understand the stakes of anything going on in their life at that moment yeah the answer is no the answer is no yeah that's part of man they don't have they're not like you old and looking back and being like man it really really really mattered when i chose x y and z yeah for better for worse yeah yeah it's gonna be fun man i'm excited we're gonna film deep dive so you guys will have more that's gonna come out tomorrow so you will have that we pre-recorded today so but we won't have the live in the morning y'all and the people that have asked about my breakdown that'll also be out on the Texas homework channel so you will get some IT content you'll get some Texas homework content tomorrow for why you guys are eating good food that was good to me i appreciate you guys happy thanksgiving to all Ian chat enjoy it and hook him
Texas had it's best rushing game last Saturday. Why is that? And what does the A&M run game bring to the table?
