Hey, everybody Chris with me through the bracketology podcast and I wanted to give you a heads up. This month's bracket, the first three episodes for this month are brackets that already appeared on our Patreon feed. We are going to determine the best nationwide or, you know, widespread pizza chain in the US, but this already debuted on Patreon. So for our Patreon subscribers, I'm excited to announce this month, we're going to drop an entire 32 seed bracket there and it's a foodie bracket. It's the best sandwich bracket that Bootsy bracketology recorded a while ago. We're just now going to release. That'll drop throughout the entire month of December. If you want to be a Patreon supporter, patreon.com/ptebb is going to be your home for all of the bonus content, not just from Bootsy bracketology, but the entire PTE network. You can jump on there, see what the tiers are like. This is a hell of a lot of fun. It's me, it's Adam's speed, it's Sarah Kalori and Mike Mod is hosting and we have some opinions on pizza. Enjoy it. Hey everybody and welcome to Bootsy bracketology bonus edition. My name is Mike and I'm going to be your host as we do the play in round for what is certain to be a hotly contested bracket, hotly contested kind of see what I did there a little bit as a stretch. It's fine. We're determining tonight what is going to be the four pizzas that will be moving into the main bracket in our quest to determine what is the best pizza. We've got playing games for the 13 through 16 seeds and these will all go into our main bracket. Fortunately, you do not have to listen to me too much beyond this point because I know very little about pizza, we just kind of buy frozen pizza and that's how we roll right now. No better than Hans brothers. We'll get there, yeah, but that actually qualifies as my thing that I learned today as far as hunt brothers goes, but that'll be in the main bracket, which I can't wait to hear more about, but in the meantime, we've got to decide what it's going to be facing and I've got three panelists right here with me to do it. It's going to be the 16 seed play in game of blaze pizza, which I've absolutely heard of in the not at all sort of way versus California pizza kitchen and starting this off, you just heard him is going to be Chris. So this one is pretty simple for me actually because I'm not a fan of California pizza kitchen. Sarah, I know you're from California and you want to go at the hometown pie, but blaze, it's an interesting spin on pizza. We got one up the street. It's very nice because the pizza sizes are very proportional. You can down an entire pie yourself and you don't feel like a gluttonous pig because they're small pies, but they're fully customizable. It's like to put labor pizza. It's wonderful. I like it. I like the fact that I can go there with my daughter. My daughter will enjoy it. It comes out rather quick. It's good quality. It's fresh ingredients. Blaze gets my vote. When blaze pizza picks up its first vote, we're going to head over to Adam Spee's next. Yeah, I have been lucky enough to have both of these out when I lived in LA area. Blaze is solid because you can get like, you know, exactly what you want. I call it more like the subway of pizza. We have another one very much like that in mod that we'll talk about later. So yeah, you can customize it for your own. You can eat the whole thing and not feel like a fatty Magoo for eating the whole pizza. But CPK is legendary. I mean, they created the barbecue chicken pizza and it's solid. It's elevated. It makes you feel fancy. Maybe that's just because it's so damn expensive, but I like it. I am going with CPK. And CPK pulls even with Blaze. And as listeners are familiar in these three person panels, the host gets an opportunity to throw up a buzzer beater if he or she so desires. So before I hand it off to the final panelist, as I alluded to previously, I have heard of one of these chains. That's the extent of my buzzer beater. We're going to check in with Sarah Colore to find out which one of these is moving on into the main round. Okay, California Pizza Kitchen is not a hometown thing. I am from New Jersey and then I lived in New York for a while, which is why I feel I'm qualified to be here on a pizza episode. And for me, California Pizza Kitchen is fine, but it's expensive. And for me, pizza is not like I would like to go and sit down at a fancy restaurant. There's too much stuff on it that I'm like a plane, like give me a good solid pepperoni. Also, give me a pizza that is very hot and will burn the roof of my mouth because I love it hot and fresh. So for me, because of that, it goes to Blaze Pizza. It is affordable. It is tasty. I am crushed and yes, I will eat it as soon as it is done and burn myself. Damn right. And Blaze Pizza is going to be moving on over the California Pizza Kitchen into the next round. I will have to see if there's a Blaze Pizza anywhere near me. You're an Alabama. I'd be happy there's a little. No, no, no. Oh, your pie. It's very similar to your pie if you, which is might be in your area. Okay. I think I know what you're talking about there. Yeah. Okay. So my utter lack of pizza knowledge is not what's on on display here. It's these three panelists wealth of knowledge and we're going to move right into the 15 seed play in game to determine the winner between CC's pizza and mellow mush. Wow. This is a 15 seed. This is okay. Interesting. I can't wait to hear what our panel thinks. Starting with Adam. I mean, this is a joke, right? Like this is a fucking joke. Um, melamush room is fantastic and I really expect to be talking more about it in the next round. CC's pizza is garbage. It's literally cardboard and a couple things thrown on top of the cardboard circle that you put under a pizza. It's hot trash and you need the games and the lights and sounds to distract you from how awful the pizza tastes. No. I am obviously going mellow mushroom. And Adam with an emphatic vote for mellow mushroom and the confidence that he'll be speaking more about it later, Sarah, was that confidence misplaced or will mellow mushroom be moving on? Oh, I don't think it was misplaced. I know nothing about CC's pizza other than it's a buffet and the commercials have macaroni and cheese pizza. Two things I like separately. I do not want them together. Um, it's not even a place like I have any interest in going. I don't know if there's beer there. I've been to mellow mushroom. I actually had no idea. It was a chain. Like it's good solid pizza. You can get a good beer. Um, it's not like CPK that's like overpriced trendy pizza. So I'm also throwing it to mellow mushroom, mellow mushroom picking up at second vote, heading into the main round. Chris, you agree with your fellow panelists, we're going to find out, but this is what I'm actually glad I'm going last on because my pick doesn't matter. Here's why I'm glad I'm going to admit something here that I'm really ashamed to admit. I was a poor college kid and I had to study for exams because wasn't that smart, didn't pay a whole lot of attention. My first two years had to get my GPA back up and CC's pizza was a 699 buffet that I could show up for right before right after lunch and I could get two meals out of it for the price of 699 and literally sit there for six hours and study. Now you can tell by looking at me I did go to the pizza bar a lot, but it's not for for what it was in that time of my life. It wasn't bad pizza, but mellow mushroom is wonderful. Oh, the craft beer selection there is great for a pizza doing. It's great. It is out there pizza, but it's delicious. You're going to pay up for it. It's not cheap pie, but it's always going to be a reliable pie mellow mushroom gets my vote. One mellow mushroom completes the sweep as Chris alludes to things that you can tell by looking at him on an audio medium, but that's neither here nor there. I will concur with the craft beer take though. I had a absolutely fantastic peanut butter shake IPA at the mellow mushroom that's just on the other side of the mountain here and I wish I could remember I could probably look at backup and untapped, but I don't remember the brewery, but it was absolutely delightful. Moving on into the next matchup for the 14 seed play in game. We are going to have Giordano's going up against Uno, the latter of which my wife was a server at for a while while she was in college. And that's literally all I know about it. That and the time that we went there when we visited. So I guess you can call that a pre buzzer beater. Anyway, doesn't matter. Sarah, you're kicking us off here. Oh, God. I'm trying to remind myself to stick to the pizza because the only time I've been to Giordano was with an ex boyfriend who was absolutely asshole. So part of me just wants to be like screw you Giordano's. These are both Chicago style pizza, which is not like my expertise very much. I recognize it is like a pizza style. I wouldn't call it my pizza. I don't know what I looked at like I did research by looking at things online and looking at pictures. They are very hefty. Their juicy looks, Lucy looks like an unattractive salad in a pizza crust bowl. I was worried that their crust seemed on the drier side. It looked very like me. I like a, you know, we're in the cheeses on the whole greasy. So based on photographic comparisons in my last time I used Chicago deep dish pizza, I'm going to throw it to Uno's on this one. And Uno has Uno votes. We're going to see if it can get dose as we check in with Chris. So Uno actually has an offshoot called dose by the way. That's a really, yes, it did at one point. I don't know if they still do. I did a thing and I didn't even realize it. I could be wrong there. That might be something that might be my implant tricks. I mean, you know, college was a weird time. Hey, y'all all on this is actually a do it. It's two in Italian. I have had Giordano's exactly once in my life and I've had it in the most Chicago way possible. I had a early flight out of O'Hare so I stayed out by the airport the night before in order to get into my hotel room. And that's the only way anyone eats Giordano's. It's, it was bad. I'm not going to say, oh, it was like, no, it was bad. I had two slices of it and I left the rest of the hotel room and I'm pretty sure the rats next to O'Hare took it with him. Uno's Chicago deep dish isn't for me, but Uno's, I at least enjoy it. And you know what, I know we're basing this on the pizza, but there's other items on the Uno menu that I like that I could eat. So Uno's gets, Uno gets my vote. And Uno does get its second vote and we'll be moving into the main round, but we want to check in with Adam. I have very little to say on this matter because I've actually never tried either. I'm basing my choice off of pictures and pictures alone. Chicago style is not my preferred style either. I think it's way over hyped. It's, it's casserole, basically. It's a pie of casserole and stuff. It's not, it's not pizza. It's not legit pizza. It's, it's fine. And the ones I've had have been, you know, good going into that. I would never order it like what I'm really, really craving pizza. And from the pictures, actually, I have to agree with Sarah that the crust looks really dry on Giordano's. And so I think ultimately, Uno just looks better. And so that's what I would, I would go with that as well. And Uno does finish off the sweep and we'll be moving into the main round to face off against Domino's. That should be fun. We are going to move on to our final play in game of this particular bonus episode. It's going to be for the 13 seed. And your two pizzas in this case are round table pizza versus sparrows. And we're starting back at the top with Chris. Well, there is only one true traditional New York slice that Michael Scott goes to every time he goes to the world. Got to get that. There's the borrows still around like seriously, they have, oh yeah, oh, I love a New York slice. The borrows ain't it round table. I liked it. I've only had it once. I had it. I think it was a Mount Dorra Florida, actually. I could be wrong there, but I've had it once. I remember being genuinely surprised by how good it was. It was fresh, the cheese to toppings to sauce ratio was solid. The crust had a little bit of thickness at the end, but like it was a good, good solid thin crust in the middle of the pie. It was baked perfectly again. This is all based on the one experience I had. I walked away with a good experience from round table, it gets my vote. Round table picking up its first vote, let's check in with Adam. So I have had both of these round table. When I think round table, I think like after literally games, you know, like that's the kind of place you go after that, you know, with the team and get a slice, you know. But I remember being fine, I don't remember it being this euphoric experience that Chris just kind of mentioned, but I think it's absolutely fine. And Sabaros is certainly not like a proper New York slice, but it's freaking mall pizza. You got to go grab a slice and walk around with it. I have appreciation for that. It is too thick of a crust and it is not amazing, but absolutely, I'm going to go with Sabaros on this. Okay. We have another game on our hands. So Adam's take is that there is a time and a place for Sparos. So I don't really have a strong buzzer beater here. I recall eating round table as a kid. It's been forever since I've seen it, but I've seen one around, but I recall liking it. And it's probably been about as long since I've had a Sparos pizza. But Sarah, I want to hear from you, is the time and place for Sparos in the next episode in the main round, or is it going to round table? I've had round table pizza once, and it was not in an ideal situation. It was like at an event where it was kind of sitting and it was warm, but like overly dried out. So I don't remember it particularly fondly. New York style large pizzas with big foldable slices is like the epitome of pizza to me. And does Sparos get there? Not particularly, but it gets way closer than almost any other chain pizza in that you, a large pie is very large, can feed many people, not just these like dinky things with the tiny life. So just for its proximity to being like the pizza I adore the most, I'm going to give it to Sparos. And after falling behind early, Sparos does mount a comeback and will be moving into the main round. What the hell have we done already? I'm proud of you, Sarah. Well, you know here at Busy Brackatology, we are the home of strong drinks, strong opinions and crowning champions. And we're going to get to plenty more of those in the next episode. But just to recap real quick, your play in winners that will be moving into the main bracket, the 16 seed blaze pizza, the 15 seed of mellow mushroom, the 14 seed of uno, and the 13 seed of Sparos, which I'm gathering Chris is going to be speaking more about in the next episode. He nods. All right, but for the time being, we hope you will join us then. And oh, by the way, I hope you're not listening to this when you're hungry because just listening to some of these discussions of pizza has my mouth, the lottery, and I literally just ate dinner. So join us more next time for plenty more discussion of all the various pies that you know and love until then I've been your host, Mike, I'm Chris, I've been Adam, I'm Sarah. So good one, everybody.
