AP News, I'm Ben Thomas Ukraine is thanking the U.S. for 61 billion dollars in new military aid because of Vladimir Zelensky saying the key now is speed. On the battlefield, U.S. officials say Ukraine has begun using long-range ballistic missiles, striking a Russian military airfield in Crimea and Russian troops in another occupied area overnight. Joint Chiefs of Staff Vice Chairman Christopher Grady tells AP President Biden made the call. "The boss made this decision at the time it's right to provide these based on where the fight is right now. I think it was very well considered a decision. We really rung it out, but again, anytime you introduce a new system, anytime you introduce any change into a battlefield, you have to think through the escalatory nature of it." Meantime, Russia's veto to UN resolution calling for the prevention of a nuclear arms race in space at Donahue has details. The resolution would have called for all countries not to develop or deploy nuclear arms or other weapons of mass destruction in space, U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield is scratching her head. "President Putin himself has said publicly that Russia has no intention of deploying nuclear weapons in space." Russian Ambassador Vasily Nabensia dismissed the resolution, he says the Council is once again being involved in a dirty spectacle prepared by the U.S. and Japan. This is a cynical ploy. He also said it didn't go far enough in banning all types of weapons in space. Thomas-Greenfield says the veto begs the question, why? "What could you possibly be hiding? Is baffling and it's a shame?" China abstained from voting. I'm Ed Donahue. A proposed repeal of Arizona's near total ban on abortions has won approval from the state house. Meantime, the Supreme Court heard arguments over whether state bans on abortions during medical emergencies conflict with federal healthcare law. Government of justices appeared skeptical, and new federal nutrition standards for school meals will limit added sugars for the first time. This is AP News. A battle for Florida and the NHL playoffs. Kevin Koolba has the latest. Carter Verhagie scored his fifth career playoff overtime winner 259 into the extra period, as the Panthers beat the lightning 3-2 to take a 2-0 first round series lead. Verhagie skated past the crease and beat Tampa goalie Andre Vasilevsky on a delayed backhand shot. "It's kind of how it goes in those situations where you're just trying to make a play, go out there with loose, have fun, and I mean they go in sometimes I guess." Florida's Sam Bennett and Vladimir Terrasenko each scored in the first, Tampa's Brayden Point and Stephen Stamkos each lit the lamp in the second to tie it. His backstop Sergei Bobrobsky made 21 saves and lightning goalie Vasilevsky 34, Game 3 is Thursday in Tampa. I'm Geffen Koolba. Tonight, the Maple Leafs and Bruins meet in Toronto for Game 3 of their series, later it's Vegas at Dallas and the King's Oilers in Edmonton. I'm Ben Thomas, AP News, thanks for listening.
