AP News. I'm Ed Donahue. House Speaker Mike Johnson was on the campus of Columbia University in New York today, calling for an end to pro-Palestinian demonstrations. Hamas issued an endorsement statement of the protesters on this campus. They called them the future leaders of America. It is detestable. The AP's Julie Walker is in New York. Outside Columbia, a small group of protesters, a lot of police and barricades, but inside, peaceful. About 60 cents make up an encampment on the lawn, where they're supposed to be holding graduation soon. Students have been protesting since last Wednesday. Maddox, a freshman, is one of them. This is the closest immediate form of control I have with the situation. It's what the university that I pay tuition to is doing, and if they have money, invested. And 70 percent are concerned about prices rising faster than their income. About a quarter say they have no retirement savings. The biggest reason being the rise in everyday expenses and housing costs. The AARP study in coordination with the Norg Center for Public Affairs Research was based on interviews completed with more than 8,000 people. And it found that one-third of older adults carry a credit card balance of more than $10,000, and 12 percent have a balance of 20,000 or more. 37 percent are worried about meeting basic living costs like food and housing. But 33 percent of respondents, 50 and older, say they believe their finances will be better in a year. I'm Haya Punjwani.
