This is AP News. I'm Rita Falle. The Supreme Court takes up an abortion question this morning. The Supreme Court is considering whether emergency abortions can be performed in states that have enacted abortion bans. 14 states now ban abortion at all stages of pregnancy, with limited exceptions. The Biden administration argues that even in those states, federal health care law says hospitals must be allowed to terminate pregnancies when a patient's life or health is at serious risk. There's been a dramatic increase in ransomware attacks involving malicious software designed to block access to a computer system until a sum of money is paid. It's a troubling trend because a breach can be very costly and time-consuming. According to the Verizon 2023 Data Breach Investigations report, the median cost per ransomware attack more than doubled over the past two years to $26,000. 74% of breaches are due to human failure to follow safeguards such as using two-factor identification, clicking on questionable content and links and not changing passwords often enough.
