welcome to the inside Texas football YouTube channel powered by inside Texas.com. It's another great addition of Wednesday night live. Thank you for joining us. Got Eric and Alene got Justin Wells going to talk a lot of long horn football. We've got some portal notes recruiting notes. The NFL draft is tomorrow. And just a lot still going on even without football now that springs over. So Eric, some portal seems to be the topic of the day. And Austin Jordan was the big one that jumped in. Where does that kind of leave everything with the whole defensive backroom now that he is looking for a new location. Well, I think Texas is looking for replacements now. They lost Terrence Brooks earlier in the week and Jordan today. One was a starting corner. There was a backup star. They still have plenty of options at star but you do tend to worry about a little bit of depth at that star position, especially if today Baron plays more corner this season or if today gets banged up. So they'll have to figure some things out but you know they are they are curious that they have room now they're they're ready to go. They're ready to see who enters the portal portal still. And I expect them to be aggressive if the right people go in. That kind of relates to this question with the exit of Brooks and Jordan do they go for two in the transfer portal. I think to cardio is the one that still in the portal. Weird situation never withdrew it and I'm not exactly. I don't exactly think that was even a administrative oversight. He's like watching practice at Arizona but is still active. It's, it's an odd situation. The WKU guy. I can't remember his name but. What is it Anthony Johnson. Gotta think that you know if they're they're they're definitely going to look for one to who knows quite yet right. It depends on who goes in. First of all this is a good new commoner on it. At least I'm pretty sure based on this handle here. So welcome to this and it I mean to cardio it's you know he's a target for sure you know if he truly becomes available Texas will be all in on that one. I'm not sure the WKU guy is a is a target right now but I do think they would take two if the right guy goes in again it's you know they don't want to reach they don't want to take a guy that's just going to be. You know third string that's just going to steal reps from the younger guys but if somebody can come in and contribute right away. Yeah they're going to be aggressive like I wrote last week on it that. They're not they don't want it they want to go to the season with as as as few holes as possible in the roster that's you know they got a short defensive tackle you know punter. Perhaps punter two DB's I wouldn't even rule out a linebacker at this point. I think this portal window has a long way to go. Justin you were talking about this before we started saw a defensive lineman from Georgia entered this evening. I forget who it is but it's kind of a non starter because anybody coming from the SEC is not going to be able to be immediately eligible. Texas they could transfer there if they wanted to but they're not playing right away so their search is going to take them to some different conferences obviously. It's going to have to I mean that's just the way it is I mean he could transfer in theory but he'd have to sit for a year and that kind of defeats the purpose of the portal and all that kind of stuff. He wasn't a starter or even a backup for that matter. I think he played in all the games last year. I think he had one tackle but but you're going to see those guys it's kind of similar to some of the guys Texas had lost but you know Zach Swanson and Peyton Kirkland you know guys that just weren't fits and getting recruited over. I think it's the same thing there think we were talking about our Darius Mims at Alabama that was a big time recruit he just hasn't had a big time you know college life so far. And so you got away and Sark has been really good about this ever since the Jai Hall Jaleel Billingsley thing. He's been really good with the portal with who they pick with who they decide to bring into bringing in that program to make sure they're a culture fit. Eric wrote this last week it's going to be more than defensive tackle. It's going to be a lot more active than that and I think this is just sparking those guys buying in 100%. And so every day is a new name. That's what we're all learning every day is a new name to chase a new name to look up a new name to to watch film on. And for us that that keeps it a little exciting. You know I saw this question from Chris Bennett what's a non contact portal entry. May have had to do with James Brockhamire from Alabama jumping in because I think he had that don't see Texas being a factor there there's a lot of family in Fort Worth right now with James. But that means that contact's only supposed to go one way only supposed to go from the player out to the coaches who know if there's any way to enforce that I don't think there really is. But that's that's what it says there's a little you know tread triangle in the transfer portal that shows do not contact. Here's a good one from our buddy Geronimo he's been in here for a while and it's a good question what's the current too deep at corner and nickel. It's a tough one and a lot of it depends on something we talked about the other day with with Jada Baron and where he ends up Eric. Well I don't know if it's a tough one it's it's pretty cut and dry right now you've got Malik Muhammad on one side Kobe black on the other Gavin Holmes and Warren Roberson at field then at you got your day Baron. Jalen Gilbo at nickel and then your safeties are Taffanderik Williams and then Jelani McDonald and Andrew Makuba so I don't you know that's just what it is right now it's it's not going to be that way in a couple months but that's that's the starting place. There's something about Sark learning his lesson on a gy hall and Jelil Billingsley he didn't have a lesson to learn really it was just the roster was in a such a different place that he was he was searching and reaching for athletic upside. Those are not guys he truly wanted to take he was just you know trying to catch a lot of ticket knowing that the roster was nowhere close to being as athletic as he wanted. He handled those guys fairly sternly and that's why you didn't see him play. He played that perfectly he knew the risk going in it didn't hit sometimes you take a risk and it does it was worth it then that guys like that with characteristics are not not even on the radar because they don't need to be. Got a good question from Twitter from Jake Roberson is Roberson fast enough and Eric you had talked a lot throughout the course of I think winter workouts that Roberson was earning a lot of praise. He's got the athleticism for that correct. Absolutely yeah he's one of the. He might be the most athletic defensive I have to think about that maybe Gavin Holmes moves a little better for corner but Roberson's a highly explosive athlete but that's still not necessarily a reason to get excited and he's a dog he'll hit you. I'm just worried that you know there's going to be some Keaton Crawford elements long term where Keaton Crawford was an exceptional athlete and a striker. But it's got you know you got it you've got to put in the work to learn all the coverages and then you need experience and it takes a while to put it all together but he's a fantastic athlete don't worry about athleticism with him. Justin he probably would remind of like an old school well he was this for a little while I think a Gary Patterson defensive back. That's exactly what he looks like yeah and you know who was the first his first offer was TCU the first night I met him is junior year when they played Lake Belton TCU was there. Like that that's a good call that it's kind of what you know the scrappy mean somewhat twitchy highly athletic guys Patterson used to always match quarters like yeah that's that's Roberson and I remember watching him in track. Yeah he can run. There is no doubt he just has a little bit more dog than most of the other DB's on the roster but don't don't get it twisted they can all run and Warren can scoop. Got some questions in the in the chat mostly about the transfer portal. No the big again saw your post on Dominic Williams visit how confident are you after the visit Justin you're you got in touch with that camp last night and you know we also all the pictures and the cars and where they were. I'll throw this to you first Justin what was your what did you get from them during the course of their visit last night. It was brief but I think they were a little overwhelmed. I don't I don't know if they exactly expected to pull up to the four seasons with a with a Lamborghini SUV sitting in the parking lot. But that's exactly what they got. I don't think they expected to have a dinner you know at nine 30 10 o'clock at night with the entire Texas defensive staff. They did that as well that carried over to today and and we're going to have an update on that. You know as quick as we can it inside Texas.com please come over there and check us out. But you know this one's one of those that you kind of have to you have to play it day to day with the line especially with the lineman in the portal I think it's changing it's fluid. And whoever wherever these kids go last I think has an advantage because they can match any any offer. But the fact that he went from Norman to to Austin. You know that that's going from the outhouse to the penthouse. And I think that family was was definitely overwhelmed and they were fired up and so I can't wait to talk to those guys as soon as I can when they leave to to kind of get the latest because they were. They were expecting the full court press and start they they put it on. Peter. Yeah. When he when he when he visiting Austin Peter come on now. Yeah. There's a few drop star in our comments. Send a send a send him a link have him jump on. Pretty cool I'll work on that. But Eric anything about the. Dominic Williams situation. Yeah the visit went well but you know they're going to go take some other visits and then we'll see nothing's going to matter until probably the last hour of that recruitment. You know this this gray man goofball wants to know he doesn't want a bunch of fluff he wants to yes or no like we're no stardomis and we can read what's going to happen on the rest of his visits. No we can't do that so we'll just have to play it by ear and see what happens but so a lot of recruitments these days especially an NIL go down to the last hour. Hey here's some breaking news from the man himself Peter ling he's talking to Kyle flood tonight and working on getting a visit set up to or something set up with Texas so pretty good. We got to take a minute to talk about this there's two fantastic offensive lineman in the Bay Area they're both giant they both move like much smaller guys. I think Peter's right from right outside of San Francisco of course you got John Mills from right there too. Very cool that Peter jumped on here and talking to flood that is big news because Peter fits right with what flood is looking for a giant guy that can move. Only an inside Texas do prospects come to our YouTube channel and hang out. So that's that's another incentive to come see us in IT that's what it's about. I think one of the best ones out in California. We'll talk about this one Brett Nelson with a great question and we do have the NFL draft tomorrow so prediction for a round for each player. Well I think off the bat we can go pretty easy with Byron Murphy being in the probably in the top half the first round. And then a D Mitchell probably not too far behind him and you know we're pretty a lot of people are saying Xavier a lot of people are saying Xavier is ahead of AD there's a lot of negativity surrounding AD right now which I've not heard about. I don't really know where it's coming from I've got people that just kind of laugh that stuff off we never heard about him being a bad teammate. Sometimes you get misdirection like that teams might even put it out themselves if they wanted to follow them. But right now all the talk is worthy is going to be the second Longhorn taken I think that AD Mitchell is going to have a fantastic NFL career. I just I'm not understanding where all that information is coming from it doesn't align with what we've heard. And Piper just they have a draft special that's what I was watching right before I came on here and his last mock draft he has three horns in the first round and you're right Eric he's got Xavier worthy going 22nd to the Los Angeles Chargers and then Mitchell at the end and what's interesting about that that hit piece on Mitchell that's a scout for the Chiefs and it feels like the Chiefs are putting that out so that they can get him easier. That's just playing that's just chess checkers type stuff right there even though it you know cost a man some of his reputation but man Texas could have three guys off the board tomorrow and as much as we talk about recruiting high school portal all that stuff. There is nothing that magnifies higher than that NFL draft that we're going to see over the next three days you want to see recruiting get a boost. Texas have nine 10 guys get selected over the next three days. There's nothing we can say there's nothing Sarkin those guys can sell that NFL draft in and of itself is huge and I can't wait to see the feedback from prospects when the horns have they run deep the next three days in Detroit. So we've got worthy Mitchell and Murphy probably going top 40 picks for sure to Murphy will be in the like the top 15. What about the Von Drey sweat you know recent legal trouble a little bit different player. I think he's going to go in the third I know a lot of people are saying he's dropped to the fourth. I think when teams do their homework on that they'll know that there are some extenuating extenuating circumstances where he was out he was right at the legal limit shouldn't have been driving but he didn't cause the accident. And there's a there's a lot going on on that don't think he's a bad kid. I think the stuff before that is going to hurt him a little bit more the you know it took a long time for his motor to get revved up as a college player. Honestly if you win the Outland trophy in your fifth year you probably could have been a three year player. So why wasn't he that'll that'll be a question but you know before him they'll have Jonathan Brooks will probably go. I was told with sweat it's not really about the partying thing because there's a lot of that with these college kids it's the weight. And they want to make sure that he tries to maintain that because we've seen him have that issue for years at Texas. And so I think that's going to be his hold up but I've got him going in the third but Eric's right the Dallas Cowboys are not going to get out of the second round of Jonathan Brooks is there at 52. That guy is going to be in Dallas. It's almost too obvious put the Cowboys are trying to do they may even have to trade up to ensure that because they don't have a tail back on the roster. There's no body there. So Brooks I think goes in the second round Eric's right. Let's see Jotavian Sanders seems like there's been some weird news coming out with him. But put the third round on him too. I think third round is probably going to go before him. What would be surprised. Hey I told you I always said that Wiley was an NFL tied in. I said it was an high school and it didn't look like it was going to pan out. I couldn't understand his usage even dating back to Tom Herman why they didn't use him more but yeah I think somebody's going to get a steal from Jotavian in the third round but you know there's some justifiable questions around there. I think that's going to make people wonder about you know how hard you work and you know. You can't make healing Robinson triple your bench. Yeah that sounds bad. Speaking of what about Keelan do we think he gets picked seventh rounder undrafted free agent. Jordan Whittington are going to get to pick where they go because I think Jordan is drafted. That's my bold prediction because he had so much special teams value that we didn't see at Texas. But he's going to have he's going to have that plus some offensive upside as well. I think he's going to get drafted in the seventh round but you know it could be wrong. I think if Chris Boyd can play the league for five years keelan Robinson can play in the league for five years. So let's see Christian Jones and Ryan Watts round five and six Jones I think is moving up. Actually I've heard good stuff about if the tackles go on a run Jones could be mentioned third fourth round. I think third round for Jones I mean this is what we always saw we couldn't understand the why he came back first of all because was the NFL draft grade was solo but it doesn't really bear out on tape it doesn't really bear out when you see him. He looks like an NFL left tackle now he probably won't play that but he moves well I think he turned a lot of heads at senior bowl. And he's got it's there's you know no character risks he got better every year he's still going to get better for the next couple years just because he had such a long road to go out he's going to go in the third round of that. He also gives some positional versatility he sounded like he's fine with playing guard. And Connor Williams. Yeah Connor Williams went that route went from tackle to guard did center for the golfers before he got injured. I don't think centers in Jones's future. Yeah Connor yeah oh yeah I'm trying to look at Jalen Ford that's the last one. I think it's fifth or sixth round. I think so too I think he did enough on film to wear like any questions about his athleticism maybe kind of overlooked like he is just a a good just a good football player. He's off of that one any future first round picks on this year's team no Queen viewers all right I'm going to jump in Kelvin banks so I took that one for me all. Who are you kidding I'll say Arch Manning so we're good there to Malik Muhammad. I don't know I don't know if Malik's going to go I don't know if Malik's going to go first round I don't know they got some size queens in the NFL. You're not seeing that Joker no I know the tape is going to be awesome. The tape is going to be awesome. Premium premium. As they're born if he catches the ball is going to have a pretty similar stat line and season the Xavier worthy. And he's you know not quite as fast as not going to set the record at the combine but he's going to run four three eight something like that so I can see bond maybe sneaking it I don't know exactly what type of year it is for water severs next year. Obviously it's it's pretty heavy this season that should probably probably help out receivers next year. Trying to think of anybody else. Ryan Wingo has first day potential. I just hate throwing that on early in early in early freshman but I think Saturday is hard to deny. He might have the highest draftable upside in the program outside of the quarterbacks. Amen. I like how we were just one, two, three real fast I was in previous years I would have been a very very difficult exercise. Kind of leading into this Anthony Hill future first round pick not with the way linebackers. Yeah they put a premium on linebacker play but Anthony Hill if he's a Khalil Mack Fred Warner Rokwan Smith type those guys do go in the first round. That would be about his development because he has the size and the attributes but linebackers are like running backs they tend to go later in the draft and they're just not the premium that they used to be. Like this one from our good friend David Keith Williams. If UT gets to Cory and more in the 2025 class do you think more wingo and cook would be a better wide receiver trio than worthy Mitchell and Whittington. I think so the draft. Yeah I mean look what I just said about wingo we know John Tae Cook's going to be a star he had an underrated spring game he had an underrated spring I think everybody got caught up in the touchdowns and stuff but he was he was real good. And then you know what we think of Wingo and I think I think the Cory and more is the best receiver to come out of the state since. Garrett Wilson. Maybe Garrett. I don't know I think I would probably go with the current maybe since Jalen water. I was very high on water just you know I've never seen somebody in seven on seven where they couldn't even they couldn't even touch him much less you know if they wanted to tackle him so he's probably more than wattle or maybe the other way and then Garrett Wilson behind them. Jack Smith and Jig but needs a little shout out too but he's not the athlete as were. I love the kids with productive too and but he got a lot of targets and I don't know if he had the same athleticism that that the Cory and has such a bad. When I was in Miss by Texas he went to the pool party expecting to get offered didn't get offered oh use all over him he goes to oh you and starts blowing Texas up. I got one for you. CD lamb. Yep CD was great. I kind of remember where I ranked him. You know his early tape was awesome he could play corner world water receiver then it was obvious you know as junior senior year he focused on on a water receiver and just that was speaking of another miss that's the worst miss than Marvin that's what came to mind when you were talking about it I was like wait a minute what about what about CD. Like this one from Wayne Watson do you think we have ever considered three high on defense seems like going to the SEC and our deep back question marks would be interesting. I think a lot of the mistakes that you saw on Saturday with those deep passes were with I don't know if it was three high but it was three deep. Yeah it was covered three but it wasn't three high. Right they're going to probably do a lot more single high stuff that show three defensive backs deep they're probably going to drop some safeties into the box a little bit more often because that's what Johnny Nansen has a little bit better experience with and Pete Kowski himself but Ian Boyd over inside Texas has written extensively about this and what could result on the field. You know you looked at Saturday and you saw Terence Brooks I was supposed to be a three deep coverage and didn't work out well because Terence Brooks didn't read the coverage right. It was three deep as well on Isaiah bonds but Kobe black just got he got hit across the face mask and run right past so there are some obviously some aspects of the coverage that they're still getting down and sometimes they're just getting beat at certain Yeah short answers they're not going to run a three high safety defense they'll run a lot of cover three it's a staple of quit Kowski they'll probably run a lot of it this year because it helps helps run support. But they're not going to ever run three high not with this not the way this coaching staff is currently comprised. Yeah they're going to probably they'll mix in match quarters and like I said, Ian Boyd over inside Texas is the person to go another good one from David Williams. He's really interested in seeing Trevor goosby's development over the next two to three years I think goosby could potentially be a first round pick since left tackle is such a high profile position. Justin I think that's a an opinion shared by people even within the program walls as well. Yeah I feel like there was a stretch there where I felt like Eric and I were hearing Trevor goosby's name every week last year. And he was the one of the offensive lineman in that cycle that didn't enroll early. He didn't get the head start everyone else did but he sure did make up ground fast. Seeing him do well in the spring game kind of what's kind of what we've been hearing this is a guy they love and he's versatile he can play left tackle he can play some right tackle his athleticism is tremendous. I love those basketball players his little brothers a big time basketball player. So they've got that upside that athleticism goosby gets in there starts for two years David. I keep I keep wanting to call him Williams Williams David for whatever you know I can't help. That was a game on the board I mean right. But yeah I think goosby I felt like we kept hearing about him week after week after week and then we got to see him Saturday and it's like yeah I see what you're talking about. And the thing on goosby was like like Justin mentioned not only was he the last one to get on campus he was the last one they offered that that ended up in that class that it was kind of a are they going to offer them or not I think they didn't offer until the spring game or right around there but that was a lot of people on inside text we're pushing that one just because of the baseline traits of good feet athleticism basketball sort of ability to to move in different directions. Yeah he's he looks like he's got star potential we heard a lot of good things about him. Throughout the spring he's just you know another year of development is going to do wonders. Flipping is always fun too. You say basketball you're going to perk up Justin's ears but I remember he was a state finalist I think in five a in the shot. I went and watched him at the state finals at Mike a Meyer Stadium and I don't think he won but he placed pretty well and you know that's just more traits here's a good question we can lead into a nice recruiting conversation what wide receiver wouldn't be the target for arch. Eric this is something that you put that display on during the spring game. You're you're not showing a lot to coaches but you're showing those long bombs from not just arch manning but even Trey Owens that and showing that the quarterback position is going to be in good shape for the foreseeable future at Texas. Yeah I guess to answer that question we could go with Michael Hudson didn't seem too interested in catching passes from March but but Ryan Wingo got the message. Yeah I mean they've got the best quarterback situation in the country for long term and it's not just it's not just arch it's it's Trey Owens as well. They're they are super super high on Trey Owens. So yeah I mean it's it's not just the quarterbacks it's also the offense itself become one of the top two or three wide receivers. Going forward you're going to get you're probably going to be drafted that's just the way that the position is going to be the next run of years so it makes a lot of sense. Justin you were able to talk with some receivers after the spring game did they give you that's that's who they're marketing to is did you get positive reviews from them as well. Yeah I mean it's not just arch even though there is an actual arch effect but it's the offense and and there's nothing better than watching a spring game where starting just airs it out with it though it's 60 times. Just air it out. I mean it's a spring game I've seen covering this. Absolutely I think the players had more fun than the fans. It was almost like it was a coming out party for a lot of those young guys that hadn't really got a chance to shine on Saturdays just yet. That was their opportunity to kind of get into DKR and get their number called you know get their name in the paper. And if you noticed it you know there was one player or arch you know he broke the pocket and he's scattering Michael Taft had a beeline on him and I mean he could have lit him up. They wound up tapping obviously and they did this little fake little fake boxing to each other and I'm telling you I think those guys had more fun than anybody else and if those guys are having that much fun the recruits feel that they see that they know that. So it's not just arch it's not just the offense I think it's the environment these guys really do like being around each other. That to me is the biggest selling point of all. I think there's a good point from Chris Bennett having Chris Sims helped get the big three wide receivers in 2000. It's probably going to help with obviously Texas flip efforts on decor and more Marcus Harris and other Colique Lockett a bunch of different wide receivers. It's nice to know that your path to the guy throwing you passes is going to help you out a lot. One quick basketball got to thank J.R. for the Super Chat any thoughts on the starting lineup with Jordan Pope jumping in. I got my lineup right here I think it'll be Jordan Pope Trey Johnson Trimon Mark. And I'm trying to figure out what they're going to do I think they're after a couple of forwards if anybody they may put Jason Kent there at that starting spot. But they're they're probably looking for a four and I think that Rydis Petratus who visited Texas a couple of weeks ago just visited Cal could fit into that spot but still a long way to go think they got a couple more spots left available but Jordan Pope jumping into the boat over Texas A&M no less was a big win for Rodney Terry and his staff. How big is Pope and Mark coming in to take pressure off of Trey Johnson. Because what we saw the McDonald's all American game from Trey Johnson I don't know if every Texas fans were expecting that. And then they're thinking well he'll come in and do that immediately we don't want to put that on a true freshman. I think you're not going to have to anymore I think the team multiplied by just not only adding those two guys but also taking some of the pressure and expectation Trey Johnson might be a one in donor. I mean he's that talented and he's an actual shooter and so I think those two by addition one averaged 18 again the other average 17 points again. I think that couple with Trey Johnson makes this product a little bit easier to watch than unlimited ball screens by Dylan DeSue. Yeah in the offense is going to be a little bit different this year I don't think it'll be as pick and roll oriented with just the two main guys in the offense but they're still waiting on a couple answers in the portal I think they have a few more spots left scholarship wise I think Kendall weavers are six man and they should be a little bit deeper and be able to like you said Justin make sure that a lot of responsibilities aren't just totally thrown on a Trey Johnson's plate right away. So we need to start because he's the best on ball defender in the program so that's a good problem to have. Wayne Watson asks about the portal visitor today that's Dominic Williams we talked about that a little bit earlier in the show is he focused on NIL I mean if you're a transfer portal guy and you're a defensive tackle in this transfer portal cycle. You may not be focused on it but it's going to be part of the conversation that any of these guys whether it's Dominic Williams or anybody including some of the guys that Texas has hosted and anybody else has hosted so you're you will probably find I don't know how to say this, but it's going to be a factor I don't know if he's focused on NIL but it's definitely going to be a factor. Do you think that you think they had the Lamborghini out to see to check out the Lamborghini because you know money wasn't going to play a factor in this at all. At the four seasons. Yeah I mean of course one of these are drink. These guys are going into the guys are going into if you're a starter at a school. It's a international championship so you've already had a season where you know you won at a very high level. You're comfortable there, you know the main driving force that you would go into the portals. You know it's pretty obvious it's the same reason other people leave jobs. Trying to find any other questions any other topics you all want to touch on. Let's talk about the Astros they're doing great. The Texas Rangers they're doing equally is not great. Not quite equally. Hey we do have some really good news though the Mavericks played insane defense last night.
