WinterFest in Eden Tonight! 12.06.24

Oh this is such a wonderful special time of the year and I have my friend Cindy Adams with the City of Eden special events marketing and all of that on the line so we're gonna kind of give you another update about some things that you can take part in. Hey Cindy how you doing? I'm fine how are you? I'm just doing great and we're kind of in the with the weather we're kind of in the Christmas spirit aren't we the feel of Christmas is here for sure. Yeah yeah you just don't get to be better than that. That's great. I know yeah yeah all my goodness in the excitement we're counting down now hours away from Winter Fest at Grogan Park there on the campus of Eden City Hall Stadium Drive today so let's tell us all about it because since we last talked you've added a couple of things and and more to tell us about. We have um it's gonna be a perfect night for it. When you get there there's gonna be so much to do and so much excitement you're just gonna forget it's cold. That's right yeah and we need a little nip in the air yeah it is but that's okay it's Winter Fest and but we have some heaters and different things to help keep you warm. There's a first thing entry is free we have a s'mores bar a hot cocoa bar some popcorn with the movie a Christmas story all that free. I would suggest bringing your chairs and bringing a blanket to watch the movie and but then there's spectacular basket raffle with 20 plus baskets that's going to benefit the United Way and both baskets are extraordinary so it's just a great time to get something for yourself or a gift. I think tickets are a dollar you can buy as many as you want so it's a great thing to do for a great cause. The decorations are over the top this year. It just it just creates a lot of excitement. There's going to be inflatables for the kids to play on. Some are some kids act throwing apparatus there there's going to be oversized cane and then there's bearded barbecue there's a stew there's there and a big famous funnel cake you know it just goes on and on and on and and I heard from a great meteorologist at around 630 it's gonna start snowing and growing apart. Oh my goodness you've got to be kidding. No I'm anticipating that okay and so that'll be fun but please come out it runs from 538 just bundle up put some good gloves on some thermals and come out and have a great winter night in Grogan Park. Oh my gosh and when you said a moment ago and this is your quote you said decorations are over the top I wouldn't expect anything less from you. They are there are a lot of fun Brett Curry and his crew has been working for several days getting lights up and garlands and different things and then we're going to add some fun fun final touches today and so we're excited we hope everybody is bringing the kids they'll love it they don't care about cold no but thing node will be there and I know I butcher that name every time but they're a company here in town and they're going to be there with awesome Christmas story cups with candy in it for kids and they love Winterfest as well and so it's gonna be a lot of fun yeah it is and that starts at 535 30 till 8 Grogan Park that's a wonderful park anyway all year round yeah for all kinds of things and and and then with Winterfest it really makes it special with all of the things you put together you and your staff your team so yeah come out for that tonight and I'm I'm already excited about that snow snowfall at 632 yeah I should have that song handy snowfall yeah okay all right so Winterfest that don't know where Grogan Park is it's on the campus of City Hall right located at 308 East Stadium Drive right across from Morehead High School Stadium right there in the corner yeah there's the high school so easy to find yeah okay well I know Winterfest is a the big thing right now but you've had some wonderful tree lighting ceremonies here recently tell us about those yeah all 30 were real special we did one in Leaksville Ken White headed that up we did one in spray that was many six many and Pam Texans idea last year we started it and continued it it was just very sweet at the fire station there in spray on Morgan Road and then Draper which is a long standing tree lighting down and Tim Biggs and the Merchants Association do that and all were had great attendance and people had a good time there were s'mores and hot cocoa and cookies and caroling and all kinds of things and so we want to thank all the folks that that did those three kind of kick off the season and get people in the mood and and then the girls that did the Leaksville parade great job they worked very hard I think everybody that is not a small task to do a parade is a lot of work ahead of time and a lot of work the day of and then of course this Saturday December 7th is the 57th annual Draper Children's Christmas parade it will be at 11 o'clock and Ot Coleman his family worked hard year round to make that a very special parade yeah yeah so that's 11 o'clock in the morning long full crest road in Eden you don't want to miss that that's a very special parade for sure okay all right there is a lot going on now all around the county but we have these special events right here in Eden so yeah I'm looking forward to seeing you this evening and invite everyone out and yeah I'll have a I'll have a cup of hot cocoa with you so I'm that's gonna be fun we'll do it and I do want to remind people shop local mmm this Christmas season there are some awesome shops Eden is Rockingham County with some beautiful unique gift and just if you take the time to look I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at what you'll find and these merchants are our neighbors they're a friends family and they depend on us particularly during this season and so you know before you drive out of town and spend more money on gas and everything try looking at home first that's exactly right yeah and you know and from from year to year and I think of this their river fest because people come to that they haven't maybe been in the area in a while and how many new shops were added you know six or seven or eight had just since last river fest and and maybe the same thing for winter fest people that you know just don't get to all of these events but yeah many new businesses and some delightful shops so so please yeah support our local business restaurant all kinds of things they're working hard to create a great atmosphere and experience for you yes indeed okay well happy holidays Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you tonight thanks Cindy okay thank you appreciate it all right Cindy Adams with the city of Eden she works hard and her team city crews all year long to bring us all of these wonderful events so thanks to them and residents here in Rockingham County come on out tonight newcomers you're invited to bring your your friends and family and enjoy winter fest tonight that's 5 30 till 8 with all of the different things going on and I remind you that you can go to Facebook page website explore Eden NC and keep up with events all year long Merry Christmas everyone from the city of Eden [Music] [Music] (gentle music)
