Mike Moore Media on our media line Lee Mitchell director of the Madison made in recreation department where exciting holiday things are happening hey Lee it's a busy time for sure yeah absolutely absolutely that that time of year we're we're in December and Christmas is upon us along with several things going over the wreck yeah I know you've got basketball and sports and things but first let's if it's on your agenda they are first I'm excited about trail of light starting tomorrow yeah yeah our trail of lights is gonna kick off the same night as the Christmas stroll so we tried to line that up so you everybody can enjoy the lights here and go downtown and enjoy all the festivities there with the mid-end Christmas stroll on the tree lighting mm-hmm sure so yeah we'll kick off at five o'clock tomorrow get all the lights going and we'll stay keep lights open till nine o'clock every night that'll be from tomorrow through the first Sunday in January is when we'll wrap up so it will get a almost a pretty much a full month's worth of light a trail and it's all free okay absolutely free yeah if you might came last year you know it was we had a good setup last year but like like many things that we do we kind of have a learning curve so it's it's even better this year I tell you the staff is all pour their hearts into it and there and then and they're in their backs too so yeah we're working hard for the last few weeks getting it all set up and they've done a terrific job but everybody's had some great ideas and just hats off to the whole staff for all they do and a special thanks to a couple people Uncle Buck's World just done an advertisement for so if you want to see the lights we posted on our Facebook page and and an Instagram so you can see them both see a preview of it online right now thanks to Uncle Buck's World and then another special thing is the KMS roofing so they let us borrow their lips so we can rearrange our bulbs or our lights up our trees and on our buildings so a special thanks for them to great yeah give us a little preview yeah well we'll check out that for Uncle Buck's World for sure but give us a little idea what what we'll have there in the trail well you know here you could see how many lights we put up with that can't tell me trips are made to loads but I can tell you we've got added on a couple more tunnels I remember you last year we had two tunnels now this year we have four last year we have one photo booth for families to gather around two pictures now we have three then we've added in a bunch different features we've now got I think it's 13 inflatables three photo booths four tunnels and the trail itself is roughly three quarters a mile so it's a nice little trail that goes around our building here at the rag mm-hmm wow that is wonderful okay and and music and cocoa and those things too oh yeah yeah that was actually the next thing I was jumping into so we'll have cocoa downstairs and then we have a few events to go along with with our festivities you know the first kickoff tomorrow is gonna we're gonna leave it all to the downtown stroll so we're not gonna do any special events ourselves tomorrow night there's so much special things going on downtown so we want you to see the lights but at the same time we want you to go down there but kick it off on the 14th is our big night where we'll have our seniors centers gonna be sponsoring crafts downstairs where our senior coordinator along with some seniors are gonna be helping kids do arts and crafts downstairs and then we're gonna have our Santa's helpers which is run by our maintenance department so if you have anybody who's a grandparent a single mom or parents are just maybe not maybe not as handy you could drop off your toy to the wreck on the 14th and are along with your information and what we'll do is our maintenance staff will actually build your toy for you and call you when it's day when it's done oh that is a great service yeah and then the maintenance department also thrown in on the 14th playwright or play ride that night so we're gonna put the mini truck going dress it up some different lights and throw some haybells on the back and the kids can take a fun ride around the trail of lights on the mini truck that day no that's pretty cool too very nice you know maintenance guys are really stepping up on that 14th along with our senior department there so definitely join us on the 14th our our crew of bent to kick off that day mm-hmm then on the and then on the 21st we have the fire our rugged county fire marshals coming to do s'mores and last year was a huge hit so Amy who's now in charge of our grants events is gonna be working with us with our fire marshals to provide free s'mores for our kids on the 21st and then finally on the 28th we'll be doing a movie night that night working with base camp that base camp that lets us use their movie screen will blow it up in the gym and then they can come enjoy free hot chocolate and popcorn in the gym and watch a movie and while I also enjoy the lights that night oh my goodness wow it just gets better and better that's wonderful oh yeah oh yeah it's a great time of year and we try to you know it's my favorite holiday so we try to go all out and on anything that we do so this is definitely our staff everybody really step it up and for our community and provide a great service oh that's great well thank you for the schedule and invite everybody to come out to M&M rec and all of the activity starting tomorrow through January 4th so that's great okay thank you Lee yeah yeah speaking of events let's not forget our annual M&M Fellowship choir concert is also Saturday December 14th so it's gonna be a busy day for a Saturday December 14th refreshments will begin at 10 concert begins at 11 you know Faye and Keith and the group always does a terrific job every year and you know do it twice a year they're doing once for Easter once for Christmas and they put they're gonna put on a great concert you know I've got to hear practice for the last few months upstairs in our gym and that they found they found terrific so it's gonna it's gonna be a good show mm-hmm well that's always nice yeah and then the other thing is is our don't forget about our 43rd annual Madison Mid and Christmas parade that will be Saturday December 14th also at 1 p.m. and they're taking they're taking registrations through the deadline here somewhere the deadline they're taking deadlines through the at least the end of this week I think it's a little bit in the next week too but I go and get your entries in for that for anybody it has not registered and for folks has never attended this event they may be new to the area or listening who's not from the area we put on the best parade the round and every year it seems to grow to the point now that I don't know that we could fit much more in the street they might stretch always from Madison to bed and as long as the parade's getting so yeah it really is a terrific parade and I always enjoy going out after the concert every every year right here on the front lawn and enjoying them as they pass by each year as we're in the middle of our cleanup that's a good place to view the parade there too in that area and and it's the long we can say without question it's a long as Christmas parade in the county yeah absolutely absolutely the fire department puts that on we're just we're just like to work with those guys that help them with the red that's registration side of things but they're the ones that truly make it happen and and and the fire department does a amazing job of coordinating that and getting everybody in place and lined up and and always done a terrific job every year of running that thing yeah yeah thanks to them for sure yeah okay well how about under sports all the sports so we got our basketball season kicked off we ended up with 2016 this year last time I checked we were at about two hundred and fifteen twenty but because two hundred fifteen kids signed up so we're we're sitting at a good number we also got 88 cheerleaders so it's also a great great number for that group too and the practices have begun and that we'll kick off our holiday tournament between the here at the wreck and then Michael that that terminal will be the 23rd 26th and 27th between the two sites and really look forward to that I always I thought was a good initial kickoff and a good start for these kids to kind of see where they're at and let the coaches know what they got what they're working with getting ready to go into the season which starts in January yeah okay so the holiday tournament 23rd 26th and 27th you said yep and then right in right before that tournament starts we are hosting a basketball camp who's run about run by triple threat training which is run through Lamar Tatum he always puts on a good camp every year he's doing a one day on one day only Saturday December 21st camp it's only you know it's 40 bucks for the day ages six to nine is going to start at 12 p.m. and go till two and then ages 10 to 15 will be from 230 to 5 so anybody that's looking to get the home in those basketball skills before the tournament starts on the 23rd then definitely advise him to come out to the camera said Lamar and his crew always does a great job run that mm-hmm okay so that's December 21st you said okay guys correct all right and then finally on the sports end the one thing we are registering for right now is our men's basketball league that will begin in in February we'll run registration from now through January 17th we always do two divisions we have a gold division the silver division if I need to know what that is our gold divisions who the younger or more athletic folks that I want to play that gold division the silver divisions made for folks like myself so the guys just out there to have fun who may not have that yeah want to run up down the floor every single play and then okay live it live below the rim yeah you've been there done that so yeah okay 44 those those are above the rim oh wow now don't don't cut don't cut yourself too short there but that's always a great league every year we max that we maxed out at 12 teams we had a great season last year really enjoy having those those guys here on every Sunday playing we typically go from Sunday afternoon to Sunday evening to early night playing games and they always put on a good show for the community and great for those guys who play sure okay with that I'm gonna jump over to the senior side of things now what and then one thing I almost completely forgot to remind everybody is our doies bakeries still open oh yeah we cannot forget about that it's on the front page of the newsletter of the senior center that's what reminded me we do have our doies bakery that did did change up a little bit was to have the most popular items it's not quite the same as it used to be we don't have quite as much variety but we do have all your favorites with your sugar cookies your ginger spice your sugar cake those type things but with the other thing that we did do is we also bought in some local vendors has got we have about four tables set up with some local vendor items on there whether it's ornaments cutouts from current welding getting ready for the holidays for possible Christmas gifts quilts pins you know it's different items like that so t-shirts and holiday t-shirts so definitely come out and check that out like this a little bit different set up than usual but still great items great store and it's really doing well this season as usual wonderful okay jumping into our newsletter we have breakfast club this Friday breakfast club and bingo starting at 9 a.m. so anybody wants to join us it's free for seniors to join us for breakfast club bingo's only $1 per card so definitely definitely come join us with a good crew we typically have the anywhere from 40 to 60 seniors that come in to usually depending on the weather a little colder probably a little bit smaller crowd but always a good group it comes in there so I really look forward to that on Friday the other thing we got going is on the 13th that Friday the 13th it's gonna be our ladies who lunch at 10 a.m. so gonna have a trip trip with those groups they're gonna go shopping and go out to Stewart's family restaurant up in Stewart Virginia and go shopping downtown there so that's always a great trip those ladies love that love that wherever they go to eat and spend some time together sure and then we have our watercolor painting which is gonna be it's just ten dollars per person and that watercolor class is gonna be on Tuesday the 17th at 1 p.m. to definitely come join us for that that class has been growing we were I remember that class was down about five or six people and I tell you what we've been we've been filling it up to about 12 to 14 every class so that they're really enjoying it's a good group in there and they look forward to keep growing that and then finally you know during the holidays you know we always indulge and eat a little extra and gain a little gain a little weight during the holidays nothing wrong with that but just don't forget that we do offer our group exercise classes for both seniors and and younger folks so just remember comes New Year's resolution time come join us for our group exercise classes we typically run in the morning and we do B-Fit and Zumba in the evening so definitely check out our website which is m-mrec.org for a larger schedule on that so just don't forget you know got all our fun activities and stuff going on but we also have our exercise class going on for those folks who's looking to lose some pounds starting New Year mm-hmm yeah oh wow there's a there's a lot happening as always at M&M Rec okay well thank you for all of the good news yeah absolutely absolutely always always glad to share and glad to come on be on the radio here where you might yeah well we appreciate you and your team and all the good work you do and happy holidays Merry Christmas to everyone
