Mike Moore Media. - There's a very important event happening in Eden on Saturday. Actually, it's a Rockingham County event. Caroling for Cairns, a family Christmas benefit concert. It's at Morehead High School Auditorium. Coordinator Gillian Larson is on the line. We're gonna check in with her and kind of get a preview of what Caroling for Cairns is all about this year. Hey Gillian, how you doing? - Hi, doing well, thanks. - Good, well, one of the things I know we wanna talk about is what this is for. What is Caroling for Cairns? Let's start right there. - Caroling for Cairns is a concert that we started a few years ago in conjunction with the county-wide food drive for the Rockingham County Food Coalition. And it was started to kind of kickstart the coming years food drive and get some donations underway to help those in the county who are in need at this time. - Yep, and the needs are always there and they just seem to increase every year. Maybe this will be a good time. Let's do that right now. Maybe again, at the end, if you have the list right in front of you of the agencies that are benefiting from this event on Saturday. And if you don't, I do, okay. - I did have it, let me... - Because while you're looking for that, we have been doing podcasts for years with about the food drive. And so we all know the need is always there and these agencies step up and Rockingham County is such a giving county, people always willing to help whenever they can in so many different situations. So it's great that these agencies are there to help so many people. And that's just not at the holidays, not to start the new year, but it's all year round, isn't it? - Yes, and especially after the hurricanes that we've just seen, there are a lot of people in need right now, so any little bit helps. - Sure. - And I did find that list. - Okay, good. - So it benefits the Community Crisis Center in Reedsville, Cooperative Christian Ministries in Eden. Quarmy CDC in Reedsville, Focus in Eden, Hands of God in Western Rockingham County, Men and Women in Christ in Reedsville, the Rockingham County Veterans Coalition Food Pantry in Reedsville, the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen in Eden and the Salvation Army Food Pantry in Reedsville. - These are wonderful agencies, so thanks to them for their good work all through the years, I said a moment ago. Okay, so that kind of let you know what, but this is all about with the Carling for Cans event. It's Saturday, it starts at three o'clock at Morehead High School Auditorium in Eden. And I know you and all of us are excited, Gillian, about the quality of this concert this year too. So tell us about that. - Yes, I have made sure to find top quality in the local area and I can't take all the credit and fish was able to get her friend who many of you have heard her lovely voice, Janet Pascal, to come and share her talents with us and I'm very excited. I'm not a local, I grew up in Idaho and so I had to look Janet up and I've just been blown away by her videos that I've looked at online and I'm very excited to be able to hear her as well. - Sure, yeah. Yeah, we're glad to have Janet Pascal a part of this internationally known national in North Carolina Hall of Fame gospel singer. So, and she's from Reed Swill. So she's right here, I believe, right here in the county, still, but didn't have to go too far because, but she has gone far many different lands to share her talents, that's for sure. Okay, and who else do we have? - And then I'm very excited to hear Austin Scarlett our master of ceremonies who has also been all over and he is a very accomplished fashion designer and he gives to the community a lot as well. - And he's been involved in a lot of TV broadcast and things like that, so a lot of people know him for sure. - Yeah, from Project Renway. Mm-hmm, yeah, yeah, okay. All righty, and some more of their performers? - So we have Roger Denny doing a couple of numbers and Carl Smith and they both are local to Reedville. They play together often for their church and then they do a lot of different community performances as well and in talking with them, they're both super giving and excited to be able to share their talents, to help those in need. - Yeah, Roger has, he was in our studios here not too long ago and he has a big hit song out now that's being played nationally on a lot of stations and then Carl Smith too has played with some of the big names in music through the year, so oh, they're two good ones for sure. - Yes, and then I may be partial but my own husband, Austin Larson will be performing a few Christmas numbers. - Okay. - And it's not just because he's my husband, he has a beautiful voice and he's sung for the concert the past two years, I believe they've only done this concert for three years. - Mm-hmm, yep. - So this is the third year, yeah. So he's been a part of it all three years that they've done it and loves being able to share his talent and especially Christmas songs and then we also have the members from the Theatre Guild of Rockingham County coming to help us out as well. - Mm-hmm, sounds like a good lineup right there. - Yes. - It really is, okay. So all of these talented performers will be on the stage at Morehead High School and Eden is coming Saturday at three o'clock. This is an event you certainly want to be a part of and if you're not in the holiday spirit, Christmas spirit, this should do it, don't you think, Jillian? - Yes, and there will be a visit from Santa Claus for our young friends in attendance. - And Santa will be there too. Yeah, okay, that's great. - We have everybody. - Yeah, I believe you do. Okay, so, and all for a wonderful cause and that's the food pantries and the different agencies around the county that help so many people, okay. All right, is there anything else we should mention? - No, we're just excited to see the community and to be able to come together to hear some great music and collect some donations for the food drive. - Mm-hmm, yep, very good. All righty, well, I'll go over the list here at the end of the different agencies involved and it's great to talk to you. We haven't talked before, but thank you. I know you have a busy schedule, but thank you, Jillian. It's good to have you on this podcast so you can give us a little preview of what's happening at the concert on Saturday. We all appreciate that. Thanks for you and your team for making it happen too. - Yeah, so thank you as well. - Okay, Merry Christmas, all the best. - Thank you. All right, bye-bye. All right, that's Jillian Larson. She is coordinator of Caroling for Cairns. This is a family event. It happens this Saturday at Morehead High School Auditorium in Eden. Hope you're listening closely to the quality performers that will be there and all of the different agencies that will benefit from this. Let me go over those one more time. Community Crisis Center, Cooperative Christian Ministries, Kormai Community Development Corporation, Focus, Hands of God, Men and Women in Christ, Rockingham County Veterans Coalition, Food Pantry, Salvation Army, the two in Rockingham County, Soup Kitchen and the Food Pantry, and county-wide agencies that serve many people. So you are doing a good thing. You will enjoy some wonderful music. This is something that you have a special invitation to attend. Hope you and your family can be a part of this and come out and, oh, we didn't mention. What's the admission? Well, actually it's canned and non-perishable food items. So that is very, very easy. Canned and non-perishable food items, that is your ticket to get in to this concert on Saturday. Caroling for Cairns. Hope you can be a part of that and join us for this wonderful benefit.
