Obituaries for Monday, December 2nd, two announcements from Fair Funeral Home. Fay H. Wood, 78, died November 29th. She was born in Leaksville, graduated from Moorhead High School, and worked for DuPont in Martinsville. She also worked at Rockingham High School as a Special Education Assistant and was a first-grade assistant at Wentworth Elementary School. She was a member of North Spray Christian Church for more than 50 years, a secretary for the church board and member of the choir. She worked with the church's children and youth. She was a longtime president of the Christian Women's Fellowship, also a member of the American Business Women's Association. She was preceded in death by husband Melvin and is survived by daughters Christine Scott and Matt and Michelle Goodman and Kyle, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and brother Ron Higgs. The family thanks friends, home health and palliative care nurses, Guilford Health and Brookdale Northwest for their care. Funeral services are Thursday at 2, with burial at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors at 1. Officials may be made to her church or Samaritan's Purse for Hurricane Helene Relief. Huey Long Watkins, 87, died November 29th. Graveside services are Saturday at 2 at Overlook Cemetery, visitation at 1. He was born in Henry County, was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church and worked at Spray Cotton Mills in the maintenance department. He also served in the United States Army National Guard, preceding him in death was wife Edna Earl Harvey Watkins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to his church. Three announcements from Perry Spencer Funeral Homes. Arrangements for Joel Dillard, 74 of Eden and Jacqueline Edwards, 61 of Winston Salem, are incomplete. The viewing for Ethel Mae Simmons Bennett, 70 of Walnut Cove, is Friday, 1-7.30 in Madison. The family will receive friends Saturday, starting at 1.30. Three announcements from Boone and Cook Funeral Home. Arrangements for Doris Marie Hutchins, 74 of Madison, are incomplete. Jerry Lee Southern, 63 of Eden, died November 28th. Memorial services will be held. He was born in Patrick County, worked for Carristan Rugmill, was an active member of Stonewall Pentecostal Holiness Church and volunteered for rocking him hope. Surviving our wife Beth C. Southern of the Home, children Tracy Southern Layton and husband Hunter of North Myrtle Beach, and Eric Carter of Burlington, siblings Donald Southern of Oak Island, Thomas Southern of Eden, Kathy Maeve of Sandy Ridge, Linda Parrish of Madison, Bobby Joe Southern of Medan, and David Southern of Burlington. Three grandchildren and pets Gabby and Naomi. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brenner Children's Hospital. Friends for John William Bill Cassell, 93 of Eden, are incomplete. He was born in Rockingham County, was a U.S. Army veteran, and in his younger years was a bus driver for trailways. He also helped his father sell cars at Riverside Motors. He was supervisor for Philcrest Mills for 34 years and owner for 23 years of Cassell's car and truck sales in Eden Tire and Wheel Center. He was a faithful member of the Eden Kiwanis Club. He was preceded in death by wife Jules Cassell, surviving our children Mike Cassell and Judy of Atlantic Beach, Scott Cassell and Jan of Stonewall, Tony Cassell and Cammy of Reedsville, Susie Lysman and Richie of Germany, and Melissa Stevens and Ron O'Connor of Georgia. Help Robertson of Reedsville, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Tunnel of Towers Foundation.
