- AP News, I'm Ben Thomas. New York State's highest court has overturned the 2020 rape conviction against former movie mogul, Harvey Weinstein. Marches our letter on what happens next. - The New York State Court of Appeals has dismissed Harvey Weinstein's rape conviction in New York over what it calls improper and egregious rulings by the judge in the case. Former federal prosecutor David Weinstein, who has no relation and not involved in the case, says prosecutors have a few options. - It is up to the state of New York to decide whether or not to retry Harvey Weinstein for these same charges. They can also enter into a negotiated plea agreement with him. - Harvey Weinstein's lawyer, Arthur Idala, calls the ruling a tremendous victory for every criminal defendant in the state of New York. Weinstein remains in prison for a 2022 rape conviction in Los Angeles. And Marches our letter. - The US Supreme Court heard arguments over whether former President Trump can be prosecuted over charges he sought to overturn the 2020 election. - Mark Sherman reports the justices seemed highly skeptical of his claim of absolute immunity, but he could yet benefit from a delay. - From the court's arguments, it seemed likely that there would not be a quick decision and that in fact, the lower courts might have more work to do before a trial could proceed. - Two US officials say Ukraine has sidelined Abrams M1A1 battle tanks the US has provided. Russian drones have made it too difficult for them to operate without detection or coming under attack. A $1 billion aid package announced this week includes munitions specifically able to take down drones along with additional air defense systems. Tennessee's Republican controlled state houses given final approval to a bill making it a crime for adults to help minors receive gender affirming care without parental consent. The NFL draft is underway and as expected, the Chicago Bears took USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall pick. At number two, the Washington commanders also took a QB, Jaden Daniels from LSU. This is AP News. US economic growth slowed to 1.6% during the first quarter that made for a rough day for stocks, the SMB fell 0.5% in Aztec 0.6. And the Dow lost 375 points or a full 1%. Meantime, ring customers are getting refunds from the Amazon owned company, Shelley Adler has details. - The Federal Trade Commission is sending more than $5.6 million in refunds to consumers as part of a settlement with ring. Which was charged with failing to protect private video footage from outside access. In a 2023 complaint, the FTC accused the doorbell camera and home security provider of allowing its employees and contractors to access customers' private videos. The settlement requires ring to delete content that was found to be unlawfully obtained, establish stronger security protections and pay a hefty fine.
