AP News, I'm Ed Donahue. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators are defying a deadline at Columbia University to clear out of tent encampments. White House press secretary Corinne John Pierce's free expression has to be done within the law. Anti-Semitism is dangerous. It is hate speech and it is abhorrent. And there is no place for anti-Semitism on campuses or anywhere else. It is a painful moment. We get that. We get that it is a painful moment that Americans are dealing with. The demonstrators at Columbia say if they left by the deadline inside a form committing to abide by university policies through next year or an earlier graduation, they could finish the semester in good standing. If not, the letters said they will be suspended pending further investigation. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is back in the Middle East trying again to get Israel in Hamas to agree to a ceasefire. Brian Cutulis is with the Middle East Institute. His first goal on this seventh trip is similar to the goals that he had on his previous trips. And in some ways, this trip reminds me of the the movie Groundhog Day where you've got some of the same conversations and concerns about the different players still very much in play. A trial has started for a Massachusetts woman accused of killing her Boston police officer boyfriend by intentionally driving her SUV into him. Prosecutors say a cracked tail light and Karen reads own words to firefighters that she hit him will prove she is guilty. Two people have been charged with murder in the killings of a couple whose remains were found scattered around Long Island earlier this year. They were previously charged with concealing a human corpse and tampering with evidence. Prosecutors in France say actor Gerard Depardu will face a criminal trial in October over the alleged sexual assaults in 2021 of two women on the set of a movie. New research shows that moderate drinking doesn't have the heart benefits. It once thought to have. Dr. Armanda Chung with Northwestern Medicine explains finding show that drinking less is healthier for you. In a more recent study that was a meta-analysis looking at all the prior studies that were done and accumulating all that data or synthesizing all of that data, it suggests that actually there really isn't any level of alcohol consumption that is considered beneficial. The United Kingdom, France, Denmark, Holland and Australia recently reviewed new evidence and lowered their alcohol consumption recommendations. And Ireland will require cancer warning labels on alcohol starting in 2026. Reading raises the risk of several types of cancer, including colon, liver, breast and mouth and throat.
