[MUSIC] We're back on Canucks Central, Stan Reicho, Sat TR Shop. Canucks Central is for enzyme-Pacific Vancouver's premier Chrysler, Dodge, Ram and Jeep Superstore. On 2nd Avenue between Canbea and Maine, or at enzymepacificcrisler.ca. It's a brilliant, brilliant day at the office. Brilliant day outdoors. I couldn't believe how warm it was. Yeah, you were wearing-- I had, like, a light coat on, and I was like, "Man, this is unnecessary right now." Definitely T-shirt weather. And I get to work at Elon is just, like, dressed for the beach. I'm surprised they have a tank top on today. [LAUGHTER] And we didn't get the memo. We didn't all wear black for Victor's final day. Yeah. I have black pants on. Does that count? Maybe. Close enough. Thank you, Seth. Yeah. We're going to miss you, Vic. I'm going to miss you guys. Yeah. Vic is last day here. He's moving on to bigger and better things. Yeah. Well, he's moving on to things. I'm just kidding. No, he is. No, he is. He's done a terrific job here. We're all sad to see him go, but he can't pass up this opportunity. You never know. Maybe we cross paths again in this building down the road. His best contribution is a sports N650 employee. Donuts being brought in on his last day. Yeah, that's great. And I can't even take credit for that. That wasn't even me. [LAUGHTER] Yes. All right. It's the mailbag here on Kedok Central. Let's get to it. [MUSIC PLAYING] All right. So your questions for us. And actually, I do need to, like, paint this picture a little bit. We might be a little bit light on questions right now. No, it's going to be there. Sat was a coward this morning and didn't put the question out early enough. I literally put it on. I put the question out at 1.59 PM. What? [LAUGHTER] Which is a minute before the show started today. I'm sorry. I dropped the ball. Sorry, I've always got questions for you guys. Good. I love it. Yeah. Elon's got plenty of questions. Sat, it's the playoffs, man. You've got to be bringing your age in. I know. I know. I was too-- I can't even say I was too nervous. Can't even-- like, if the Canucks have a bad first period, I'll be all over you. You say they didn't come prepared. [LAUGHTER] Imagine if I'd make a mistake to start off this show. [LAUGHTER] Jeez. All right. Elon, what have you got? First one up from Hassan. Besides Petey, who's been the most disappointing Canucks in the playoffs? [LAUGHTER] I don't-- OK. If we're leaving, like, Patterson off into his own category, like, "Hey, we all know this is the most disappointing player in the playoffs for the Vancouver Canucks to this point." I'd have to say second is Philip Hironic. I know, you know, he didn't play final game of the season. Elliott Friedman brought it up on 32 thoughts. Like, is he also one of these players that's kind of managing an injury of some kind again? Like, I get it. Guys are managing injuries. Guess what? There's guys on the Nashville Predators that are also managing injuries. It's the playoffs. You've got to find a way to make an impact on the game. I don't think Hironic has been poor. It's just, you know, he's a guy that the Canucks relied on to be, you know, one of their true, I guess, secondary core players over the course of the season. And he just-- he's been-- he's been fine. But, you know, you need your best players to show up in these big moments. And I don't think, you know, Philip Hironic has made a lot of big plays that have made differences in games for the Canucks. No, he hasn't. Defensively, I think-- we spoke about him a bit yesterday, but I think defensively he's been fine. Like, there hasn't been a ton where I'm looking at him and saying he's not doing his job and, you know, making mistakes, transporting the puck fine, getting out of his zone. So there are a lot of things I like that he's done. Offensively, the contribution hasn't been there. And I do wonder how much he's held back by some sort of an injury. Yeah. There's definitely something there with him, given, you know, what we talked about. The minutes also going down. Minutes going down. We talked about it at the end of the year. Hironic's probably going through something. I think it was reported. Maybe it was Dolly Waller. Initially, and he missed the final game of the season while he was held out for load management reasons. So there's definitely something going on there with Hironic. So my choice, yes. I mean, you can make, say, Philip Hironic. And this is not of any fault of his own. That's your Demko. Oh. Because he only played a game. Got to hurt. You know, it's not his fault, but it's disappointing. He's talking about disappointment, right? And not looking at player performance only, but disappointment. Different way of looking at the question, but I understand. That's how I would view it. Yeah. Even Nils Hoaglander, it would almost be harsh. Yeah. I'm not expecting a rookie to come in and be a star. Yeah. A guy who, the first time this year broke out. It's been disappointing, but I wouldn't rank it up there in terms of one of the most disappointing Canucks players. And to his credit, I think he's played better as this series has gone along, even though he's still yet to make an impact on the scoreboard. So there's your answers. Mac is wondering, should Coach Talkett be quick to shorten the bench tonight if they have a slow start? I mean, you can't shorten the bench too much early in the game, but I wouldn't be surprised if you try to load up your top nine forwards and maybe Sam Lafferty, Phil De Giuseppe, and potentially Nils Hoaglander get lost a little bit in one of these, if there is, the next two games and you shorten to more of a nine forward type of mindset to the point where, you know, your fourth line guys are essentially playing fewer than eight minutes, seven minutes a night. That is in the realm of possibilities. What I think I want to see a little bit more of, and, oh, Canucks are still going to start, I think, with pretty much the same lineup as far as the forward lines go in this game six, but do we see situationally trying to go to the lotto line a little bit more? There's only so much you can do it in a game without disrupting the rest of your lines and what else you're trying to do with your deployment, but I wonder if we do see a little bit more of trying to move Patterson around. Yeah, we can see that. And I think it all really depends on how the game script goes, right? Like I think that's really, especially with how the coach has gone about these things, it really depends on game situations. They haven't had a lot of slow first periods. You know, you think about the last game. It was probably the best period they've put together in the entire series. Yeah. No, they were good in the first last game. That wasn't the problem. Yeah. Austin and Langley, who has upped their UFA value the most in these NHL playoffs? Their UFA value? Well, we could start with the Canucks, and I don't know if upped it, but there was a lot of people discussing how much money Elias Lindholm had lost given the way his season ended for the Vancouver Canucks, but with a couple of goals and playing in a big spot and it's sort of a shut down role and showing again some of the things that make him such a highly regarded player around the league. I think Lindholm has at least ensured he's getting a pretty big payday come July 1st with the way that he's played in the postseason. At least reclaim some of his values, right? Yes. I'd say he's a door off. Yes. I'd say he's a door off. Yeah. Big Russian defenseman, physical, been a menace, squirtagull, skating, doing a bit of everything good defensively outside of, you know, that first goal that was not challenged. He kind of escapes and loses his position, which leads to that. He totally pinches for absolutely no reason. Yeah. It's a baffling decision. Outside of that, like he's been very good overall. Super likable guy too. For sure. And I think, you know, NHL GM, see a big physical defenseman like that, skating, making an impact on the playoffs. Somebody's throwing a boatload of money at him in the free agent market. I mean, defenseman are always going to get a lot of love. You think about some defenseman in the past, like, I guess, Eric had Branson would almost apply with how he played. But I was like, actually, like, you know, actually good, giving him a, yeah. But nobody saw Eric at Branson 16 million from Columbus when he did this is good. This guy's getting more than I was thinking Ben Sharat as a guy, like who really upped his value with how he played come playoff time in the past. And then you saw Detroit give him a big contract and well, it hasn't really worked out necessarily for the Detroit Red Wings. But Zadora is kind of in that mold where a big hulking defenseman who can make a lot of good plays really ups his value because you're so focused in on the postseason and you're seeing what he can do. But I don't know if he's guaranteed himself, you know, 20 plus million in total money on his next contract, but it certainly feels like it. The Leafs did it, guys. Neil Hender put up two last night. Game seven. I want to know who do you think's under more pressure in the game seven? Is it Toronto? Is it Boston? I'm also wondering, has it ever happened two years in a row that a team's blown a 3-1 lead in sports history? It hasn't happened in hockey history, I don't think. It hasn't happened in hockey history. I think it was actually, it's not somebody tweeted that it hasn't happened in NBA or Major League Baseball. No, either. It would be historic. Yeah. It would be a historic collapse for the Boston Bruins. It's like, for Canucks fans who hate the Bruins and hate the Leafs, it's not like the perfect situation. Either the Leafs lose again in the first round and you laugh at them, or the Bruins lose again and do something no teams done in NHL history. So either way, if you're a Canucks fan who hates both teams, you can have a lot of fun at the expense of at least one of them. It's probably Boston. They were up 3-1 and Austin Matthews isn't playing and you're still potentially blowing this 3-1 series lead. I mean, I get the Toronto hate, but I don't know. They lost their almost 70 goalscore and they still came back on you. It feels like Toronto is playing with house money right now after even just forcing a game 7. Now if Austin Matthews comes back, does that change the conversation? I think the Leafs back and loses the whole changing conversation. For me, I think the Leafs need to seriously look at changes no matter what, even if they happen to beat Boston because to me, whoever moves on in this series is going to get throttled by the Florida Panthers. So I think both teams probably need to look and see where they can make changes no matter what, but Boston for sure has more pressure on them going into game 7. Yeah, especially because it's on at home ice too. They have slightly more pressure on them, but yeah, you're right. I think no matter what Toronto is in for some entertaining fireworks this offseason. Boston is like, you know how like NHL teams talk about so much about playing the right way? Boston is like the picture of that where they've got, they've got a decent team, they've got a decent amount of talent and if they play the right way, they're going to win a bunch of games over the course of 82 game season. And it's so ingrained in their culture that they're going to play the right way, that they're going to be stingy, they're going to take their opportunities when they get them. They'll rely on posture knock to do his thing and whatever else. But when you get to the playoffs and you don't have a true number one center and you don't have that many difference makers in your forward group, it's probably going to fall short. And that's that's sort of the situation the Boston Bruins are in right now. Well, pastor neck has four points in six games, two goals to assist, which you know, it's not horrible. Got called out a little bit by Jim Montgomery, but they rely so much on him. Yes. To create offense for them. Not producing at his ridiculous, high level self, they are going to have trouble. Like last year, he had five goals and seven games with no assist. So five points and seven games are lost in seven. They need him to be himself and he's not himself. They're not going to win. I'm loving the Bertuzzi Marshawn rivalry going on. So entertaining. Yeah, Bertuzzi is a and he's an interesting hockey player, he does some like really weird stuff on the ice when you watch him enough. But anyways, he gets he gets the job done. He'll be an interesting UFA this summer for sure. This one's from Jay. Would the Canucks be willing to trade Besser in order to sign Ronik, Zadorov and Joshua? I am. So I think you could potentially do all of those things without having to trade Besser. It's just how do you then make other additions to the team? Would be my question and even then it would probably be tight with the way that Zadorov's money is going up. Yeah. So I think if you're moving Besser, you have to replace him with a forward? Yeah. To me, the interesting question would be do you sign Philip Ronik to a contract with seven million or more or do you sign Zadorov and other defensement for that same money? Now righty, lefty and everything. If you're moving Besser, it's not to sign a defensement, it'll be to add another forward. They need more. They need another guy to your point. Yeah. If you're trading Besser and I need to need two guys, right? So it's not just replacing Besser as adding somebody else as well. But if you're looking to keep Zadorov and paying him the money he's looking to get, which isn't going to be cheap again, like $4.5 million per year, you know, then you probably have to move Ronik to make that happen. Yes. Would you do Ronik and say another righty defensement, like let's say Chris Tannev or whatever. Yeah. Would you rather do Ronik and Tannev and Zadorov, for instance, or sign Philip Ronik? Like those are the types of decisions. If you're looking at the defense and making the money work, like it's either or it's not going to be both Zadorov and and Ronik who stay. If Ronik, if Zadorov wants $5 million, Ronik wants at least seven plus, they're not signing both those guys, I don't think. No, I just, like I don't, I'm not comfortable giving Zadorov the money that it seems like it's going to take to keep him. You already have Hughes and Susie on the left side. Zadorov has publicly said he doesn't like playing on the right side. You can't commit all of your dollars to a left, the left side of defense. For me, I'd still rather take Ronik even at seven million than I would going for Zadorov and TANF, let's say at what 10 million to sign, time the two of them? I don't think it'll be 10 million. Okay. I'm not paying, I'm not paying 10 million for both those guys. 9 million? Four and a half each? Something like that, probably. Probably between eight and nine. But the term is a lot shorter if you're doing TANF as like two or three years. Zadorov is like four or five years. Ronik's like seven, eight years. Yeah. Again, like if you're looking to keep, like that's a decision. To me, it's not about Besser or Zadorov, it's more about Heronikon or Zadorov. Which one of those two guys? And to your point, I think the organization wants to keep Heronik. Yeah. And probably are, you know, worried about having too many, not having enough on the right side of defense because we know Tocket likes lefty righties on each side. Now that we've seen some of these first round match ups, I just want to look ahead a little bit, get your guys' opinion. What are your dream third round match ups? So I would like Florida and the New York Rangers in the East. Yeah. Okay. That would be a really fun matchup, I think. As far as the West goes, look, if we're excluding Vancouver from the conversation for obvious biased reasons as we are the home broadcaster for the Vancouver Canucks, Colorado Edmonton would be an incredibly fun series to watch. Yeah. At the same time, we saw that happen last time in Colorado couldn't keep pace. I mean, Edmonton couldn't keep pace with them. Edmonton better. They're very fast out. Edmonton is better today than they were last year or even the year before. Yeah, because the Kings were worse this year than they were last year, so they look better against them. But no, I mean, Edmonton is better, of course, they're a good hockey team, but their pace is a bit of an issue. Colorado's pace is insane. Yeah. And they're still like, they're fast out. Edmonton's pace beyond McDavid is just almost non-existent. Yeah. So, you know, so for me, including Vancouver, I want to see Canucks and Stars. Ducks and Stars would be, honestly, it'd be a great series. It would be physical. All of their games during the year were a lot of fun to watch. Tight, physical, fast, you know, goaltending could be good on both sides, right? Like, that's what I want to see. Like, I think that would be a really fun series. I would not disagree with that. I think the Canucks probably would have a better chance against Dallas than they would against Colorado. Yeah. I think against the abs there, they don't match up as well, especially with, yeah, I agree. I agree. And Edmonton Vegas would be probably a fun series to watch as well. But I don't think Vegas is getting anywhere close to the West Final, to be honest. So Tommy P wants to look ahead a little bit, too. I'm just going to do one question on the next series. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. The Canucks managed to win the fourth game tonight. Do you see a path towards beating the Oilers in the next one? Well, beat the national first. I'm not going to get too far ahead of myself, but like, can the Canucks beat the Oilers? Like, what? Yeah, there's always a path. There's always a path to victory in every playoff series. There is. The question is, how likely is it? And I think that's the other equation for it. But there is a path and the path includes the Canucks. I'm not sure it is loading up. I think them. It's Patterson coming alive, carrying his line, JT doing his thing, Lindholm carrying his line, and the Canucks being able to go and go at waves and having a stout defense and goaltending. I think that's going to be the edge Vancouver would have if they're able to win here against Nashville. They stand a chance against Edmonton without Thatcher Demko, who's skated today, by the way. Should point that out. He's skated the last, or skated yesterday, one of these last two days. And Rick Talkett saying he's still pretty far away, but it's good to see that he's progressing to some level. It would be, I would have a hard time thinking the Canucks can win four out of seven without Thatcher Demko between the pipes. Well, you don't trust Archer, she loves that. I'm not. Not yet. Again, let's just beat Edmund. Let's just get. Let's let's see. She'll have steal one game in the playoffs first, like he's going to have to steal a couple versus Edmonton. I mean, does he have to necessarily? There is some narrative here where like Edmonton beat the snot out of the LA Kings and they look like this. Ellie doesn't play hockey. I know. One three one. Kevin Fiala was asked today about what's going on. I was like, yeah, like, trust me different. Yeah. I'm not sure this one three one thing is for me. You know what I mean? Like they did not they did not look like an inspired group of players, the LA Kings in this series. Like how are we supposed to beat these guys playing like this? Yeah. I mean, honestly, like that's why everyone's so scared of the Kings. Come on. Like look, watch the look at them playing. Yeah. It was it was hopeless. It was hopeless. It was hopeless. So yeah, like there is a bit of narrative happening here where Edmonton looks like this a moveable object, but they're really not that. They do have some weaknesses that you can exploit, but look, like you're going to need your star guys to level up in the same way that, you know, the playoff start and McDavid and dry side will look like. Yeah. Unbelievable. Of course. It all comes back to the same thing. Can Billy as Patterson find his game and JT play out his best and if they dose two guys go, it's that simple. Pretty simple. Pretty simple. You can make an argument. If he gets a goal, fine, right? Yeah. Hoaglander. Anything can happen man. We're going to end. What world are we living in? The cave scores a goal is 2023. That's unrealistic. We're going to end on one basketball question here for basketball full NBA playoffs. Is there a bigger idiot in sports than Patrick Beverly? So last night, Milwaukee box get eliminated. Pastors fan is chirping Patrick. Cancun on three kept on saying to him. I love that. That's great. So Pat threw the ball in a in a fan's face, which you obviously can't do and then post game and ESPN reporter tried to ask him a question and Pat said, do you subscribe to my podcast? And she said, she said, no, I don't. And he said, next question. Yeah. And refused to answer. Yeah. So he's an absolute loser. What a loser move. Yeah. Like in both ways. Number one. And he threw the ball twice. Yeah. So not only did you throw it once through the second time and hit some kid in the head to the first time, right? Yeah. Like, come on. Like, what's wrong with you, dude? You should get suspended. You should get like a 40 game suspension. You can't throw a basketball hit a kid in the head. What are we doing here? Yeah. It just a total Dumbo move from Pat Beverly. Feel good about your next there, Elon? Did you guys, I know you're busy watching the NHL and the Canucks series, but that was one of the best playoff series I've ever watched. It was a lot of fun. It was a lot of fun. It's Dan Reicho, Satyar Shah, four producers, Elon and Vic signing off. Goodbye. We're going to miss you, bud. Coming up, the Canucks Central Pre Game Show across the SportsNet Radio Network.
