A tremendous comfort behind victory by the Vancouver Canucks tonight, taking game one of the second-round series against the Edmonton Oilers, and it looked to be a very tall task. Canucks make a number of mistakes in the first half of the game, but they bear down to come back and win this one. I mean, I don't know what to expect in the third, I thought they could make a game out of it, but they dominated the third to win this game. Boys, they allowed two shots on goals to the Edmonton Oilers in that third period, and it was domination, but within five minutes, three goals is one thing, but the way that they were able to individual efforts contributing to the team game. Elias Lindholm, a monster tonight, third period for Elias Petterson, a monster win in battles, Brock Besser late, two late block shots. That's the collective effort you need, and you start to see some of that speed in the third period as well, where they saw, all right, wait, we can target this team as long as we get some room and neutral ice, and Connor Garland on that plate, where he takes Darnall nervous wide. That was cerebral, boys. That was just like, I know what's in front of me. I'm taking you to task and your goaltender by opening you up on that fake shot. That was beautiful. - Yeah, that was a practice move. You don't see that very often a game, just because it's kind of, you know, it doesn't connect very much, so it was a beautiful, beautiful fake, and then, yes, Skinner sliding across. - Yeah. - Great, great barrier. There's so much anticipation on that, right, to a ward off the check for a nurse, who I thought probably could have put a better effort and a better stick, and then, I don't know if he sees it out of the corner of his eye, or if he just expects a natural movement like that from Skinner, and there's that opening, and he's done it before when he first arrived, and there was a lot of shot fakes and looking for that shot. We haven't seen it in a long time, but what a moment to pull that one out of the bag there. - That was a crazy moment, guys, and that one, you know, just the building and hearing, and people are still sticking around. Usually, they're not maybe here that late, but-- - It's like an EPL game when they finish beating a rival. They stay in party in the master about an hour afterwards. - There's a chance going on after, right, but, like, even the goal before that, that's one of the things I appreciated about Nikita Zodorov. He doesn't think twice about when he's got, you know, shooting the puck on his mind, that play by Bluegirdo in that wall battle, gets the puck back to him, guys, and just leaning into it. There was a really a cerebral aspect to the Canucks in the third period, where they started feeling it, and they were like, all right, we gotta get pucks through. We gotta make this guy move side to side, or attack and transition. So, the five to 10-minute period, it just felt like the team woke up to say, we know what we need to do. - Yeah, the first six minutes, chest match. There wasn't that much in the first six minutes, and then they go four on four, and you think, this is an Edmonton's favorite, and McDavid actually wound it up, and we're like, oh, no, here it goes. They're this close. - Pedersen did just enough, right? - Yeah. - We talked about, like, you have to get more engaged. - Yeah. - And, look, that was a scary moment, 'cause McDavid even still got the edge, but it died, right? Just take anything out. You push the puck away, you didn't win the battle, but you just push the puck away far enough to let everyone regroup. That was a huge play by Elias Pedersen four on four. - Well, and also late, let's talk about how they handled the lead. A few minutes ago, they connected a pretty good job. I mean, they were obviously a bit more, say, conservative with their structure, but they were forechecking the through-pucks deep. They had a forechecker going in on a deep, but that final minute, 30. They were great along the walls. Pedersen had three huge clears himself, suited at a tremendous job. The final of 90 seconds against that vaunted man advantage. They pulled the goalie for Edmonton. That was textbook closing that game out in the last 90 seconds. - They got the one cross-crease pass where something was there to McDavid. - It was a bad side, I think just missed it. - And it just missed it. But yeah, that was really the only one. She lost, had a nice rebound deflected away, but that was really about it. - For sure, and you talked about Pedersen in the battles. I thought he was mining the third period, especially. Even early on in the game, we saw him moving his feet quite a bit, but the commitment defensively was so impressive there. I thought Lindholm, I mentioned earlier on. I thought his 200-foot game today, guys, was fantastic, winning draws left, right, and center. And late in that game, Brock Besser. Let's go back in time when people were asking whether he could play a 200-foot game, whether he could play, you know, a playoff-style game. This guy blocked two key shots. It looked like they're inching closer, and it didn't matter. Commitment from everybody. So even though they've brought in defensemen like Susie and Ian Cole, blocking shots and playing in defense at Brent Hockey is not limited to those guys, and we saw that. Their stars late in that game committed full-on to protect that lead. It's not something we could have said a couple of years ago, but that shows maturity to beat that team with those stars and play that style hockey. - Yeah, total buy-in tonight. Exactly what you said. Pee-Dee was throwing body. He was getting some huge body checks, throwing, eating pox all of it. It was just total commitment, no passengers tonight from the Canucks. - Really, no passengers at all. And I mean, and you know what? It was a really tough night for Ian Cole. The first three goals I was scored by Edmonton. He played a part in whether it's taking a penalty, not getting the cross-eyes pass, not getting the cross-eyes pass on the first goal. He gives the puck away behind the net. On the second goal, the third goal, he makes a play at the blue line, they turns it over and then shot the flakes off him and goes in, the next thing, you know, it's like, man, you're down three-one, and this guy's been on the ice for every single one of them and looks like he's having a tough night. They overcame all that, right? And that's picking up one of your team. He has a veteran on the team who in the playoffs I think has been tremendous. He's struggled late in the season, of course, but I know you talked about his game, Brett, too, how towards the last few games he got his game back. But he's been a warrior for this team in the playoffs, and it was really nice to see the team pick him up after the three mistakes he made to let them go down three-one. - Yeah, pick him up. And then I think he did a good job being a veteran, moving forward on some key penalty kills. You know, late in the game, he's just reading pucks. And again, no passengers, they all did really well. They're clearing pucks, getting bodies, good sticks. - And you know how it is. You've got to have a short-term memory here in the playoffs as well, you're playing some of the best players on the planet. You can't dwell on that. And I thought the team has a hold at an excellent job where you're down 4-1, 4-2 in a game. That's a very tough proposition against this team that really mop the floor with the LA Kings. So, you know, this is something, just to have that resiliency not only as an individual level, but as a team level, that's impressive, guys, to just wipe it clean after the second period to say, "Hey, we're still in this." - That's the word, right, resiliency. And it's a buzzword. They're wearing it on the sleeves, right? That's the shirt. If you're gonna do that, you've got to be about it, right? And if it's supporting the guys, whatever it is, yeah, okay, a guy had a tough night. Other guys have to step up, Carson Soussey, amazing in the blue line. Lindom, as you mentioned, driving everything in the offensive zone and winning 78% of the draws. It's just unbelievable. Everyone's got to chip in to buy some of the guys some time. And I thought, you didn't call it, it was mistakes, but there were elements to it that still were okay. And then as the game progressed, like, got a bit better. And everyone improved and got a little bit sharper certainly there in the third period. - Yeah, and I do want to hit up Dakota Joshua here. Boys, before I leave as well. One goal, two assists, eight hits. It's one of those games where we're asking, you know, where's Dakota Joshua, maybe on the back end of that series against Nashville? Well, he showed up tonight. That entire line showed up tonight and just being a physical presence. And you maybe don't notice this as much, but he was just, he was money as well. Not only from a points production, but from a hits perspective and just playing physically. - Let's go outside the Canucks locker room where we joined by J.T. Miller after an incredible 5-4 comfort behind victory. The take game won for the Vancouver Canucks and J.T. I mean, resiliency has been a word to describe you guys all season long. You guys are down three goals in this playoff game here, but what an incredible comeback in the third. What spearhead did you guys staying in this game and getting it done in the end? - Yeah, I just think the mental toughness. Those are the situations we, you know, you preach all year as, you know, as leaders and as a team to do the right things because, I mean, we were out playing them, you know, for pretty much the whole game. We felt like that five on five. You know, they were opportunistic on their looks and we didn't back off. You know, it was, we didn't want to get away from Kanahaki to score. And it's nice to see the timely goals go in. That was a big part of the game. - Yeah, J.T., you're right. You know, five on five, you guys were looking good, but when the score is the way it is after 40 minutes, what was the message within the group and the intermission there? - Don't change anything. That's a long series. You know, go out playing again in the third period. We could feel good about ourselves and hanging our hats on just cleaning up a couple of things going into the next game. You know, you'd like to win them all. Sometimes those looks aren't gonna go in and you're gonna live to fight another day. It is what it is, but I think just to get rewarded and come out and, you know, we feel like we earned that one today. It was a good hard-fought battle and we had every single guy contribute, which was awesome. - How much of the last series translates to this one immediately? All of these stylistic differences, but for you, were the more spaces than what you saw last series? - It was just a way different, you know, game is the team, you know, they play a way different structure in the D zone. You know, kind of play more like, I guess more of a traditional D zone where their center, you know, does, has a lot of responsibility. And I just thought we did a good job of making them play in their own end. And when we do that and we get a lot of shots and traffic, we're hard to handle as a group. - I know you've mentioned, JT, you guys relish going up against this team. You relish going up against Connor McDavid as well. You guys kept Connor McDavid off. You got a point tonight, but didn't get a single shot on goal. What was the key to slowing him down tonight? - Play our game. That's what I've been saying this whole time. - You know, when our line's on, we're playing with the puck and they're chasing us around. So, you know, it's, we don't want to overanalyze and overthink it too much. Like, you know, when, when they have the puck, you got to be a bubble. You can't, you can't hope plays. You can't turn pucks over other than that. Play our game, make him, make him defend. You know, his, his worst offense is when he's got to play D. So, and I thought we just did a good job again tonight. You know, in a sense, a five of a five. - I watched team of Salani practice that chip every single day in practice. Is, was that off the cuff or do you practice that one? - Listen, I practice that every day for 10 years. And I've never had one go in. And honestly, I don't remember the last time I've had an opportunity or tried it. So, yeah, it worked perfect. But that was, I wouldn't say lucky. It was, I would say fortunate to, for it to perfectly squeeze through there. I was very surprised. - Yeah, what a high school play. And I saw the reaction at the end of the game. You know, you guys are fully committed defensively. Brock's out there blocking two shots on the final shift. You had the, the old Pumpernickel in the, the celebration at the end of it. What's that emotion at the end of 60 minutes? - Well, I mean, you pour your, you know, little cliche, little, your heart and soul into this game as a group. And when you see the reward, when you see the reward and actually get paid off and complete a comeback, and then you see Brock eating pucks there at the end. I mean, it's just a motion come, raw emotion comes out of everybody in that situation. So, it's a feel good for us, but it's a long series. We know that we don't want to get too high in this situation. Enjoy it tonight and re-rack tomorrow. - Before we let you go, the crowd yet again, incredibly buzzing, chanting your name as loud as I've heard it. Now you've heard it a few times. You can't see anything here. - You didn't hear the chant this time, JT. - No, no, no, I heard the last time too. The first time I was in the middle of a shift and I wasn't paying attention, but you know, they were, you know, and I guess it's a situation that's still very, very lucky. You know, this is an awesome place to play. And, you know, tonight was a pretty much a great example why when they're rockin' like that against the Oilers. - Hey, JT, thanks for your time, man. Best of luck in game two, keep it going. - All right, cheers, guys. - That is Canucks 4, JT Miller, incredible goal. What a performance by the Vancouver Canucks tonight. He had the four, three goals. Door-off scores and a Connor Garland, the game winner. And he mentions, you know, somebody texted in that this is the first time McDavid has been held off, hasn't had a single shot in a playoff game. We'll see if that's true or not. But to keep Connor McDavid from getting a shot on goal, that's a pretty strong feat here in game one. That's not gonna happen in every game in this series, but when you keep him to no shots on goal, you gotta win that game and that's what the Canucks did here tonight. - Yeah, the best player in the world who is putting up points for fun. When he's going, he's very difficult to stop, but, you know, to have that match up and come out with that stat, guys, that's unreal. And not only that, to have that goal, Brett, you mentioned it, that's such an unbelievably high-skill play. And any time you're seeing, you know, Timu Sawai doing that, he's one of the greatest goalscures of all time. But to me, you know, that was a situation where also Carson Susie with a great recognition on that play to make that cross-ice feed to Brock Besser to set it up. And then you have the culmination of that play with JT doing what he's doing. I think that was just all around great effort, but, you know, that shows you what JT's able to do. He's able to play a hard-nosed game defensively. And yeah, maybe we weren't having this conversation. I know Vic hosting with you and Sat with you in the past, these are conversations we had on our shows back in the day of, can you do this? Well, we're seeing it, not only in 82 games in a regular season, seeing it against the best player in the world, just a fascinating, awesome, awesome performance by JT. - Yeah, incredible. Hey, Randy, great stuff, man. As always, we look forward to chatting with you. Game two on Friday when the Vancouver Canucks host the Edmonton Oilers yet again. And Canucks draw first blood. This could be a long series, but a great performance. And we look forward to chatting again on Friday. - I was told that it's gonna be a short one by a lot of folks on O.D. stuff. - I was just saying, I was just saying, I was told it was gonna be a sweep. - I know, I did hear a few people predicted that the Canucks will get swept in the first round. - So, I also heard they can't win five, four games. - That's right. - Yeah, that's right. - Well, there you go. - Game one is done, so it was a fun one. - No, no question. This one here says Lindholm was a beast tonight. Boys, man, did he ever show up. That play in the end of the game where he just throws his whole body into the guy head first, beast mode, that whole line. Gives Z whatever you want. We need him on this team. What a way to start the series. Go Canucks go is one text message. Tons of messages will run through him as a show goes on here on the Canucks under post-game show presented by the number five orange. Satyar Shah, Biknazar, and Brett Festerling. We are gonna get to the thoughts of the Canucks head coach as soon as he gets to the podium. We'll get to your phone calls coming up in a few moments as well. But we talk about going into the series, how the Canucks had Edmonton's number in the regular season. It's a new campaign once you get into this playoffs. Like nothing that happened to the regular season matters anymore. Now you're all to round two. It's been quite a while since these two teams faced one another. But mentally, Brett. The Canucks owned Edmonton in the regular season. They had a three goal lead here, game one and the playoffs on the road. Neither lost five four. Is there anything as a seed a doubt in the player's minds in Edmonton being like, no matter what we do against this team, it seems like they have our number. Or do you just shake that off knowing that it's the playoffs and it's a clean slate. You're trying to shake it off. Like I'll go back to the two hour rule. Like that's what they're trying to do. Now, I'm sure their headlines are gonna be talking about Skinner on a couple of those goals. And yeah, you're right, they have had that and they were supposed to sweep and they're probably reading a bit of their own clippings. So now it's okay. Now we're in a fight. And I think that was good for the Canucks in the first period. Yeah, Edmonton came on top of that, but it also allowed them to get into the game and say, hey, these guys are just another hockey team. Like they got some good players, but they're just another hockey team. And we're just playing another hockey game. So I think that's where you saw a second and third kind of build. Like, you guys aren't anything special. We got this. Just claw your way back. And even in the second period where, territorial, they were the better team and you just have this moment of the CC goal kind of goes against you and just kind of takes the win in your sales. And yet, there they are pushing. And it's a big period. You get the one from Lindholm near the end. You think, all right, a punter's chance suddenly going to the third period. And it just took a while to get going. And then that four on four, we think obviously the advantage the Oilers have. And especially with the way four on four went in the last series against the Preds, right? They get three goals, four on four. And then Miller gets this outrageous tip. Like I think that's one of the best playoff tips I've seen since Calorn had one like four years ago that still implanted in my mind those so far. - It's outrageous. - It's outrageous. - And it doesn't even make sense. - No, I mean, when it first happened, I'm like, was that kind of a lucky one or whatever? I'm like, my first solid, that's an outrageous tip. I gotta watch it again to see if he meant to do that or it just kind of was lucky bounce. Like he meant to do that, Brad. Like that's an incredible tip. - Yeah, like I was saying, I would watch Slanny practice this. And the thing is if Besser passes or shoots that too hard, it doesn't work. The angles don't work and the momentum doesn't work. So for him to do that off, I don't know if Besser is expecting him to tip that, but it's a firm pass and then he just puts it up. But he's like, what? Three, five, three inches off the goal line? - Yeah. - Pretty incredible tip. - And it's one of those things where the Canucks have been trying to set up those tip plays, but they've been firing pucks way too hard to do. And to your point, Besser just throws at the perfect pace. For him to be able to tip that puck and then something to do a lot better. But I thought the Canucks tonight offensively would play their play through the neutral zone, generating scoring chances, getting shots on goal. Like this was far more fluid overall than most games they played against Nashville, I thought. - Yeah, I think it's just your style, right? - I thought it was really funny that JT said more conventional defense. And just the fact that that changes everything and they just look like way more space in this one. And considering how many slot tips we saw in the first series, there was even room to do that. We'll talk more on the other side, but it just looked more conventional. I guess the award I would steal from JT. - Keep you getting your thoughts into our text unbox. He's got it behind his own net. Sonora passes to center for Joshua, drops to Garland with speed, right wing. Get to the other side, makes a shot, takes a shot, he scores! (crowd cheering) - Are you kidding me? Connor Garland with a complete fake out of Stuart Skinner, gives the Canucks the lead. For the first time tonight, they're up five to four on the Edmonton Oilers in game one. - The Oilers don't know what hit 'em with the Vancouver Canucks with three straight goals attack with speed down the right hand side. Connor Garland going straight at Darnell, there's goes wide, eventually loads up a slap shot and then just goes through the wickets, a Stuart Skinner right through the five hole to make it five four. - Canucks come back, storm back in the third period to take game one, a five four victory, a thriller here at Roger's Arena, an incredible atmosphere between the Canucks and the Oilers. I mean, some Oilers fans in the building made for a rowdy night. The fans, however, they're buzzing here tonight on the text them box. - Unsigned, 650, 650, step one, seed of doubt planted, that's a lot of text coming in about that one, Curtis and Cam Loops inject this team straight into my veins, Vince in Toronto, how am I supposed to sleep tonight after this? Canucks are unstoppable for some Miller, will them to win Jason from Alberta behind enemy line sat, book to flight, book a hotel, game two, here we come, hoping for the same energy, way to shut the oil down, half prioritizes, a door of siding, he's a huge playoff guy, and game two fan flight in, or a huge fan flight in for game two. - Yeah, great stuff, man, fans are fired up, and games like this, I mean, yeah, I can understand, fans can't get to bed after a game like this, and I mean, as a player, too, you gotta be buzzing, you come back and a playoff game, three goals win, and you kinda have a nail better in the end, I mean, the emotions gotta be sky high right now. - Oh yeah, you're exactly, you said, you're buzzing, you're trying to, you're gonna do your cool down, you're gonna do your bike ride, you try to do with the two-hour rule I talk about. Yeah, it's hard to forget about, but, you know, it'll get there, but it's definitely enjoyin' the moment, and try to sleep. - Try, yeah, you'll do your very best to get as much energy, as much relaxation as you possibly can, keep your thoughts coming into our text unbox, 650, 650, I would tread very cautiously, even the Horrible Kings won a game, the Oilers are going to pump this team, and so some other fans text again, too, and still feelin' like their team can come back, and listen, it's only game one, right? But the reality is, coming into this series, the Canucks were underdogs. The Edmonton Oilers had suffered against the Canucks during a regular season, they had a three goal lead in game one, a game you probably should win, we have a three goal lead on the road, and you lost it. And hey, maybe Edmonton comes back and does their thing the rest of the series, but that's a real shot across the bow by the Canucks, saying if you guys thought this was gonna be an easy series, if you thought the Canucks are gonna have a meek posture, like the LA Kings do, where they play the one, three, one, and just kinda hang back, that's not how the Canucks play, it's a completely different animal playing this Canucks team here at Rogers Arena, then playing the LA Kings in the first round. - And look, it's the final eight, right? Like, you get here, you're here on merit, and it's gonna be a different animal, and this is where it's a big credit to the Canucks that, look, the opening 20, they shot themselves in the foot. But to have that mentality switch in the final 40, they were able to rally and just work their way back slowly, and even in an impressive second period, it's still level, it was still, you got two, they got two, and you think, all right, the task feels so big, and then just 448 into the third, they're a 440 minute sequence, they solve the conundrum that was the Oilers. - Yeah, I think, what we talked about in between periods two, right, the Canucks had opportunities. - We had some premonitions tonight, man, it was a while. - Right, you're not going into that locker room, saying we're completely out of it, we're not getting an opportunity, they were in it. Like, there was definitely times when Edmonton, especially the first, was super dangerous, but Connexion knew they had it, they had a chance, and going back to the three goal leads, straight from Joey Kenward, second time Canucks come back from three goals, the other time, four three win, second OT, game five versus Toronto. - That's going back. - The Campbell Conference final, Greg Adams, it's 94. - That's 94, that's going back, that's going back 30 years. - There you go. - 30 years ago, the Vancouver Canucks came back from three goals in a playoff game. Tremendous stuff here from the Vancouver Canucks. A lot of reaction on the text in the box, 656. 50, this one here says, give Brock Besser some do for blocking that shot, lay in the game, this guy bleeds Canucks, and we heard JT give a lot of props, we had him on after the game, two Brock to the other Canucks players, so the sacrifices they made, and it lies Lindholm. I mean, you know, he was diving across, trying to block a shot with his face even, these guys gave it all towards the end, to make sure they won this game, five, four. Before we get to the head coach and Canucks players, let's take a phone call or two, so let's go to the phone board, 604-280-0650, we'll start things off in Vancouver, where we have J on the line. J, how you feeling after the Canucks, five, four win over the Oilers tonight? J, all right, well, you'll get back to J, if he takes us off mute. So let's go to Surrey, where we have Nathan on the line. Nathan, thanks for calling in, and what are your thoughts here tonight? - Hello, boys. - What's up? - Hey, I'm underground parking right now, boys, so hopefully you don't lose me. Oh my goodness, I was in the building tonight, boys, with my buddy, Ball Rush, Shadow to Ball Rush, first ever hockey game ever, and may have been the best one, oh my goodness. He's the drummer of my dad, and just Shadow to Ball Rush. You know what, like, the Canucks created a lot tonight, which I was expecting, like, the Oilers don't really defend well. Like, they forced a couple shots to the outside, but they really let them get inside. And I thought the Oilers, they create a lot of high- banger chances tonight, but not a lot of volume from them tonight. And, boys, I don't know, man, like, I don't know what this year's is gonna go, it's gonna be super high-scoring, and I don't know if we can keep up with the Oilers, but if we can just be resilient, I think we have a fighting chance, boys. So I got Canucks in seven, and for the fan, the Calgary Flames have the sea of red, the jets have the white out. We love the black gate, but it's time to bleed blue boys. Let's get the blue going. Good night, boys. - Thanks to the phone costs, Nathan and Suri and Ball Rush, they're excited with the Canucks winning this one here tonight, and why wouldn't you be excited, right? A lot went the Canucks way this evening. This text came in here and says, "You guys haven't talked about Quinn Hughes in the game he had." Well, he played over 25 minutes tonight, and he had the matchup against Conor McDavid. JT Miller played almost 11 minutes, five on five against Conor McDavid. He was the matchup guy against Conor tonight, and we spoke about how McDavid did not get a shot on goal. Quinn Hughes was out there most against any Edmonton forward. It was McDavid who played over seven minutes, five on five against Quinn Hughes tonight, and I thought, Quinn, yeah, the offense was in there in terms of production here tonight, defensively shadowing Conor McDavid, not letting him get behind the defense, being on top of him all night. I thought Quinn did a tremendous job in his matchup against McDavid this evening. - Yeah, I think it's huge, his skating ability, 'cause the biggest thing for McDavid's line in particular is speed, right? We all know that. The easiest way to cancel the speed, like I've talked about, is get it when you're away from the puck, get to close that gaps, and what happens with Hughes is he's able to close those gaps, and then when they have those chip plays, he can scramble back, get it, and then get away and make a play, where as some are one of the bigger guys, probably Myers, whoever, you know, it could be anybody in the league, really, for the D-man. It's harder to get back, close that gap to the tightness you want it, and then get back on those chip pucks and scramble, they turn into a lot of 50/50s, where Hughes were just used to him coming back, winning the race, turning off and then making a play. So, we haven't talked about it, 'cause he makes it look so simple, and it's just a nether play for him, but his agility and his foot speed, it's pretty incredible, and he did a really good job tonight with it. - Peronik also had his own denial as well. - And also the play on Conor McDavid on the rush, when he had the great stick to knock the stick off of him, he would have driven straight to the net, he made a great defensive play, you're right to shout out Peronik on the job he did tonight, too. - You know, we talked about the Patterson play on the four and four, and it would have fantastic ones, but Peronik had his moments as well, gains Conor McDavid. - Yeah, he really did, and you know, offensively, you won more for Phillip Peronik, but defensively tonight, I mean, the Canucks were stout. Hey, the three first goals they gave up, Conor, what we mentioned, right? I mean, the too many men call early in the game, you know, it's a bit of a tough one, then they score right away, and I thought the Canucks on the one PK, it's funny, 'cause they had three clears, Lindholm wins face-offs, they get the puck out, Edmonton barely gets set up, then in the final 40 seconds, they get set up, and the next thing you know, the puck's in the back of your net. And then Cole on the second goal, you know, makes the play behind the net, dry saddle takes it, ends up going in, and then he makes the mistake on the third goal as well, but outside of those three mistakes, they were kind of the most glaring missteps the Canucks had tonight. Like overall, it was pretty clean game for Vancouver, it just didn't look great on the scoreboard, 'cause they were just really victimized on every mistake it seemed in the first, in the second. Yeah, and that's where Edmonton's dangerous, they have the weapons to do that, and dry-zettles a big part of that, he was the best player in the first period by far, and he turns two of them over, or helps create two of them, and even the third one, Cole is just unfortunate, he's the one that knocks over the air, he kind of hesitates on the blue line, right? Hesitation is death for a demon, 'cause it puts you in the worst spot. Especially when you're moving backwards. Exactly, so it's like, you need to go to the puck or you need to get back, and he ends up in the middle there, he does a good job back-checking into the net, and then the shot goes off him, right? So, like we talked about one of those quicks and games, but guess what? We won the game, so he'll sleep better tonight, and he'll have a good one on game two. Yeah, absolutely. What else are the people saying on the text in the box here tonight, Dave? Eric and Dawson, Craig, team starting the game momentum, never seems like the route of any game, always thought this first game was the most important when they were down 4-1, I was dejected, but I still felt like Knocks had a chance to come back, and when I come back, it was Let's Go Knocks, it's Eric and Dawson, Craig. We have an unsigned text here as well, 6-56-50. They don't want credit, that's fine, we were always happy to give you the credit, but someone was asking, can you check what Stuart Skinner's say percentage is in Vancouver, always feel like he plays poorly here? So coming into tonight, it was 8-52, after tonight, if I've done my math correctly, it should be 8-38 when he plays in Roger's Arena, so that is staggering, and that's what was always so puzzling to me, Brett, when people were like, there was a common narrative, like, oh, I don't know if the Canucks can win a 6-5 game or a 6-3 game, that's a lot of confidence in a guy who's had playoff struggles in his own end in Stuart Skinner. Yeah, 100%, I mean, how many other conversations in the last three days where she loves and we're talking, probably a lot of this east coast slash, you know, just how Edmonton was such a heavy, heavy favor, it came from the third string goalie. Did you know everything, like, I had third string goalie, and look, it's applicable at times, but it's also fair to look at what he just done here in the previous series, that he looked sharp. Now, look, there was moments tonight where you think, oh, man, is that on him and was the moment big, but nevertheless, he was rallied late. Yeah, and the point I'm getting at is, yeah, I feel just as comfortable as she lost as I do with Skinner, because he has had those, and, right, you have a game like this, now he's the one that's gonna have all the Boo Birds and Edmonton just all over this goalie controversy, should he be in, starting, and then the team that has lost with them, you don't want it to creep into your mind, but hey, you know, was he good enough? That's the thing you worry about with the teams. You don't have to say the name, but was there a goalie when you were playing? It's like, oh, man, tonight, I don't know. Oh, yeah, I mean, every goalie has that. No, no, but you particularly, like, as the teammate in front of them, when you knew that guy was in the pipe, you're like, oh, man, this guy's doing it. Oh, yeah, your blog, you're eating everything. You're coming in front of everything. Yo, for sure. Yeah, I got it. Can't be making mistakes tonight, boys. You're eating a lot of pucks. Clean one. The menu tonight is a lot of pucks. That's what it is, but, and you know what, a guy getting a lot of love on the text inbox, and I think it's very well deserved. Patricia in Burnaby says, tonight's win was brought to you by Craig Conroy, meaning the Canucks guy's the door on. The Canucks also guy that lies Lindholm from the Calgary Flames, and I thought both those guys, Lindholm is the door off. I know somebody else texted in, I'm sorry if I don't have your name, but said these guys are familiar with the Battle of Alberta, and they seem to have some extra hate on when they play the Edmonton Oilers. But the door off on Lindholm tonight, especially Lindholm, that's why he wanted to make that trade of the deadline. You know, he scored that game winner in the first round for the Canucks to help them get past Nashville, of course. You know, it was game four. He scored the overtime winner, right? They take the three-one series lead. He has a huge game tonight, so the door off has a huge game. And yeah, you don't need to say the trade worked out already, but you talk about getting dividends in the big spot. They're certainly getting that from Lindholm in the playoffs. 78% in the draw on the offensive zone, 86. He went four for four in the power play. So you think, opening, you want to get that, the zone entries have been an issue. We'll just start with the puck. You go, it's four for four, and then on the PK, he wins the one off the top, gets that clear, and you think, all right, it's going well, and then they succumb to the PK eventually, but he started really well, and a game strike title, bring this up. This is the thing I was looking at, right? Especially power plays. It's going to be dry title versus Lindholm, and tonight Lindholm versus dry title, 80%. That's huge. - Details. - Yeah. - Right? Details of the game. That's where he's so good, and it goes under the radar a lot of the time that you mentioned it in between periods, just the stick lift to let that release around the wall go. That leads to a breakout. Like, there's little things like that. He does all over the ice, and I don't think a lot of people see it, but he's so good at it. - There's a lot of gold coming from it. - Yeah, just 100%. They were a force. That line was a force, and it was driven by Lindholm tonight. - All right. We'll get to more of our thoughts and your thoughts, but here's the Canucks head coach, Rick Tockett, at the podium. - Let's just start with some reflections on a pretty unbelievable comeback for your group title. - Yeah, no. Resilient, you know, the guys picked that word, and that was probably the word tonight. It was a little resilient. I thought we were playing pretty good, even though it was four to one, hung in there. That's really when it comes down to it, hanging in there and, you know, trying to, obviously that Lindy goal to make it four to two. I mean, a lot of people may, there's a shot. So, yeah. - How about archers, resilience in particular, after a couple that he might like back to hang in there and hope you guys see it the rest of them? - Yeah, I mean, you know, gold tying it's, you know, sometimes it's gonna, things are to go your way sometimes in the game and you gotta hang in there. And that's what he did tonight. - Rick, I know a win's a win, but sometimes some of them should be capitalized. You mentioned you're down 4-1, yet you played so well, five on five. You limit them to just six shots. Does this one have deeper meaning for the guys in the room? And does it reinforce what you're doing and add additional confidence heading the rest of the way? - Yeah, like I told you guys, every game is different and it's one game, you gotta think that way. So tonight, obviously we like the way we defend it, but it's one game at a time. You know, you make adjustments, both sides will make adjustments, but I thought for the, you know, all year we're a good defending team. And I think when you, we have something to fall back if things don't go our way. And that's our foundation. - Does your team impress you in different ways night after night? - Yeah, I think all year, like I said, it's a resilient group. Sometimes we're not pretty. Sometimes things happen, but I just feel like it's a real close group, you know, and this is when you need a close group, you don't need situations. And I thought everybody did something that contribute. You know, I don't think we had any passengers tonight. - Rick, I know you liked a lot of the different facets of your game, but when you look at the last 25 minutes or so, you mentioned the Lindholm goal, but when do you think the tide really started to turn? - That's a good question. I don't know, I think, you know, when you make a four to two, you know, they had a couple of waves at us. I thought we handled their waves pretty good. I think that sometimes gives you confidence and you know, it boosts you on the other end, I guess. It wasn't like, you know, we scored and then they were all over us again for long stretches. It was just, and I'm not saying we're all over them. I'm just saying, we're, we just believed in, you know, if we get that next goal to make a four to three, you never know. It's just, I don't know what tide, what part turned the tide to be, honestly? 'Cause there was just little small moments everywhere. - And was that something you guys talked about? Get that next one and we're in business? - Yeah, no, we talked about it. I said them afterwards, four to one. I said, you know, it's not, they don't get frustrated. It's not that bad. We don't have to push all our chips and thought we were pretty good. So I think that's the key. There wasn't a lot of guys hanging their heads. Coaches weren't yelling screaming. I didn't think it was that bad. I thought we were pretty good. So I think that's the key. - Rick Zadora have had his fingerprints all over this one, a few big hits early, got the tying goal. He's just sit on the winning goal. Just how much does he mean to this group right now? - Yeah, I think Z, you know, how I feel about him. It's just, you know, it's much obviously on the ice. He's just had a hell of a playoffs for us, but his locker room, you know, you guys don't see the stuff that he does. He's a leader, he's also a funny guy. Like he keeps guys loose. Like he's even on the bench with me. Like he says some stuff and the pressure's on and somehow he says something. I chuckle, you know, it's like, for him, it's a high game and something. He said something, I can't remember, he said I was laughing, but he's obviously a huge acquisition force on and off the ice. - He talked about your defenses of team earlier, but specifically against McDavid, you guys had an advantage on shot attempts and advantage on scoring chances. How were you able to limit him as well as you did five on five? - No, I thought we were pretty good in the neutral zone. I thought we did a good job of gapping up. You know, he's gonna get his looks. You know, we know what, we just gotta make sure, we just limit some of his rushed chances. - You've talked about the importance of the shift after a goal, either for or against. You seem to be getting some good shifts from the Lindholm line in particular after a goal. They get the quick goal after. What about them makes them such a good line to keep that momentum going? - Well, I think if you look, Garz is a good forechecker. Him and Dak together. So any time you can get that, you know, get that forecheck and keep the puck in their end after a goal, even a goal against, like it kind of stops momentum. They're good at kind of keeping them either, keeping them momentum or stop the momentum. That line does a good job. I think it's because they're a forecheck. You know, obviously Garz does a good job of getting on the forecheck and Dak. And obviously Lindy had a monster game for us. I don't know what he was in the dots tonight. Was he 14, he was 14 for four or something. I mean, that's huge for us. - And you also talked a lot about the importance of holding onto pucks and not throwing them away. You kind of saw both sides of that, whether it's Ian Cole on the rush throwing a puck away or you've got Dakota and Teddy holding onto pucks and assisting on goals. Did you emphasize that even more going into those final periods, trying to get them to keep holding onto pucks? - Yeah, we've talked about it for a series. We talked about it in the June periods. You got to hold pucks, you got to be able to, you know, if you don't even have anything, sometimes it's okay just to hold a puck in a battle situation. We get in trouble when we throw pucks away. And there was some good times when we did hold it. Like you said, those goals, but we just got to keep with that mentality. It's hard to do, but it wears on you because you're going to get hit or you're going to battle. You're going to move your feet. It's taxing, but if everybody does it, I think it's winning hockey. - Greg, through some of the biggest moments that your clubs had over the last two weeks, there's been a lot of shots of the bench and your team goes nuts and you're pretty stoic. But it looked like post-game tonight, you were pretty excited. What was different about this moment? - I don't know. It's usually not me, I'm usually pretty, yeah. You're right. I don't even know if I cheered when Lindy had that overtime going on. I don't know, I just liked the meaner of the guys. I just, I don't know, just let it out. I don't know if I just liked the way these guys came back, you know, resilient. But like I said, it's, you know, game one, you know, I actually don't like seeing that, me doing that, to be honest, yeah. I really don't, not game one. So with fine fun or something, I gotta do something. - With regards to your first period, you know, you've probably said it every day since you advanced, don't want to take any penalties, don't want to take any penalties. And then you probably have two close calls, plus the too many men on the first shift. What did you take from that? And what did you take in general from how your club managed the emotions of a first period where maybe it took you a few minutes to sort of find your way into the game? - Well, it's obviously, you know, it's not a penalty of too many men. And then when they scored the power play goal, it's like, here we go, you know, and I thought, I didn't really feel gadget like, you know, here we go. Because, you know, obviously, the story is their power play is unreal. And we just gave them the first minute of power play. So, and they scored a power play goal. So it could have been disastrous. So we'll get to give the guys credit kind of hanging in there. - The narrative of this postseason for you is just, it's been getting these contributions, but how much is tonight sort of help you and your staff underscore that point of like, not only is it important to get those contributions, but this is the blueprint, not only for how you beat a team in one game or a team like the Oilers, but this is just how you win in the postseason in general. - Yeah, I think it's just been a gradual since training camp, every day preaching it, guys buying in, working at it. And then when you're successful doing it, you know, there's obviously more buying and guys feel good about what we're doing. So, I mean, it's all players. I mean, they understand, you know, how we got to play, you know, whether it's kind of a cocky. And we got to continue that mode. And that's really what it comes down to. - Can it be difficult to keep your, for the group to keep its composure when you give up essentially two goals, real quick ones against the run of play that make it 4-1? - Yeah, no, if 100%. Maybe four or five months ago, or maybe last year you might have seen some frustration, some laziness or something to frustrate us. Take a bad penalty. If you look at it, even when they're 4-1, I thought we still stayed disciplined, you know. We weren't pinching, you know, we weren't selling the farm. And I think that's maturity of the year how we've kind of built our resolve. - As you mount the comeback, the crowd is going bonkers. - Yeah. - Do you feel like it helped your group tilt the ice? - I thought when we made it 4-2, the crowd was really loud. I thought, I think the fans helped. I definitely the fans helped us tonight, but that 4-2 goal, I thought that, you know, I mean, they're still up 4-2, but that building was really loud, obviously, when you score 4-4 or 5-1, that was huge. But I think the 4-2 goal kind of gives us a little bit energy. The crowd gives us energy on the 4-2 goal, for sure. - Thank you. - Thanks, guys. - That is Canucks head coach Rick Talkett after a 5-4 come from behind, Canucks victory and at the podium is brought to you by Tile Town. From Vision of Reality, Tile Town has everything you need for your tiling project. See them today in Victoria, Richmond Langley, and online at mytailtown.ca. And the coach mentioned the crowd. Incredible atmosphere here at the rink, guys. That's Yarshaw, Brett, Fesserling, Vick Nazar. And at no point did the fans kind of go dead quiet. When it went 3-1, there was like a minute or two of, oh, like, oh, oh, what's going on here? But the fans quickly started chanting again, and he's right. The 4-2 goal was cheered as if it was a tying goal. And then the third, the crowd was fully behind the team. It's been an incredible atmosphere here. And when the crowds like this, this loud, this supportive, and just disengaged into a game, it's a big boost that a player is in and talk and really touched on that late. Yeah, it was incredible in here. You can't ignore it, right? You can feel it gives you the adrenaline, it gives you that energy. Exactly. They just got through a taxing series in Nashville. Yeah, you're up for a game, but, you know, you're still feeling the bumps and bruises a bit, but you get that adrenaline burst, right? Especially 4-2 or the 4-2 goal, where you feel like you're kind of out of it, and you're like, no, we're not out of it. We got this behind us. So it was huge. I was screaming like a fan up there. I don't know what to do on press, we're all new to this game. You can do whatever you want, it's all good. I was screaming like, look, the other guys are writing news stories. I'm like, ah! So it was fun. I mean, it's just an incredible atmosphere, right? And just, and honestly, it was one of those things where you almost felt with the way the Canucks were playing, that it was due, like it was about to come if they get another goal at some point here. But the way it just nullified Edmonton in the second half of the game, like Edmonton took until, what was it, four minutes to go in the game, five minutes to go in the game for them to get their first shot on the third? But the Canucks completely nullified the Oilers in the second half of this game. - And just that engulfing feeling there when the crowd's really going, right? And at four, three, okay, maybe, and look, there's a lot of scar tissue for Canucks fans. We're like, I don't know. And then at four, three, it's just the people in the building, it's crazy. I was joking with Cam, like after game one, I bought earplugs, okay? Folks, I got sensitive ears, I need earplugs. And I felt like McBain. It's like the goggles, they do nothing. I kind of felt like that with earplugs. It was pumped, man, it was pumped up, and then four, four, five, four, and it's just crazy. The lighting is shaking, you're just thinking, oh man. - Yeah, the building was shaking. You could feel press row just like, just completely vibrating. It was incredible here at Roger's Arena. A lot of reaction on the text unbox, 6.56.50. And somebody's asking us about Leon Tricidal as well. And Leon Tricidal left the game in the first period, did return in the second. The coach said it was a combination of equipment, and cramping, or whatever it was. But something to keep an eye on here. Leon Tricidal leaving and coming back in the game. - Yeah, it looks like he took a shot in the back from Tyler Myers. And then there was a shift when he took the penalty. Brett was right on this. He's skating up the neutral side. I don't know if the TV caught it 'cause it looked like it was panned onto the other zone. But it was going through the middle, it was wack, wack, wack. Three guys just pegged him right away, and there's the door of Tricidal exchange. - Yeah, exactly, that's the go to the four on four there. And yes, three different guys go by and give him a shot in the back. So I think it was pretty obvious that somebody saw, I think hockey, or the TV broadcast showed the hit. So I'm sure somebody in the Canucks locker room was like, "If Tricidal goes by, just give him a little shot in the back." - Yeah, and there was a couple. There was one late he got hit down. He took him a while to collect himself and get off the ice. So you know he was hurting, at least feeling something here tonight. Brett and Langley says, "I've been to a lot of games, "including the Western Conference final "and a Stanley Cup final. "Tonight's atmosphere was hard to rival. "The crowd had so much juice. "I wanna see Z and DJ driving in Lambos. "Make it rain for those two-day deserved it." Brett and Langley text again. We'll get to more of your thoughts on the text in the box and on the phone board, 604-280-0650. As the Canucks Central Post game show presented by, the number five orange continues. Ties the game at four for the Vancouver Canucks. - Big Z with a big cannon to equalize in this game. 94 miles per hour. - Resilient, you know, the guys picked that word. Now it was probably the word tonight. It was a little resilient. I thought we were playing pretty good, even though it was four to one, hung in there. That's really when it comes down to hanging in there and trying out obviously that Lindy goal to make it four to two. I mean a lot of people may, there's a shot. So yeah. - Canucks find ways to win games this season. If you've been a Canucks fan for the better part of the past 50 some years, you found ways, you watch the Canucks find ways to lose games. This has been the season of the Canucks finding ways to win games and not just being lucky. They were the better team tonight and a five for victory in game one over the Oilers. And this is the Canucks under a post game show presented by number five, Orange on Sportsnet 650 and the Sportsnet Radio Network, Satvick and Brett. We'll get to your text coming up in a second, but let's quickly run through all the goals. Nine goals in this game here tonight. Not a single empty net goal either. And it was Edmonton making a two nothing early. Hyman scored on the power play and, you know, this game started exactly how you didn't want it to start. It took a bad penalty. Too many men on the ice for the Vancouver Canucks. 40 seconds in and the Canucks did a good job on the first kill for the most part, but they scored to make it one nothing. Then McTeus at home gets a point shot through. You heard the call for Dakota Joshua to make it two one at a time and you thought, all right, the Canucks are into this game. Then CC scores and Zach Hyman scores. Canucks are now four one and late in the second period and lies Lindholm and makes it three four two with a bit of a lucky bounce. It kind of goes off and goes in, but he had played well, you earn your breaks. And then that tip we talked about. J.T. Miller from Besser and Carson Sousie heard Zadorov's goal coming in as well. And then Connor Garland, the five four victory goal. And, you know, on all of those, yeah, a couple of ones went your way a little bit, but also a lot of good plays by the Canucks to earn those goals guys. Yeah, I think some of the goals mirrored themselves, right? I think the Zadorov one mirrors the Yekom one. The Garland one mirrors the Hyman second goal. And there's just goals that look really similar, right? And especially the Zadorov one, it's three Euler screening, Stuart Skinner. It's three Canucks screening. She lost on the Yekom goal. And to me, they're just very similar. I do want to talk about Zadorov though, right? It's not just the presence. We didn't really have a chance to even break down those last two goals, but on the Zadorov's goal, he has a nice box out in his own zone. And he's the one that wins that puck in the cave up the wall. Hoaglander, I think, makes a nice play here. Gets out of the blue line. And you can see he's got Blueger. You can make that pass where you can just chip it up the wall for Blueger to go get onto. And that's the play he makes. And Hoaglander, we talked about in the second mission. I thought it had rough moments. Hey, you got to make a play somewhere. It makes a big play there. Blueger latches onto that and just finds the Doraov trailing. And something that they're back in it. Yeah, I'll touch on that goal. I had that down to Hoaglander. And I think that's when he's really effective is when he gets it going north and has that support. And Blueger makes a great play. But those are the type of plays they had all night. I don't-- going back to the goals, I don't think you can say either team had more locker or Canucks got at the bounces. They both had, like you said. Watch each other out. Exactly. And then if you can go to the bomb, Hoaglander, it was great chip. Blueger makes a nice play, turns it up. You can go to the Lindholm one. Lindholm has garland, forecheck, Lindholm's a guy that comes in a hit. It goes side, Dakota gets in, gets a hit. Lindholm digs it out, right? They made plays by staying in their structure, grinding it out, being physical. Like they really did earn those. Like Lindholm wasn't-- it was a bank off the thing. Well, also CC's, right? Like it banks an off-eaten coal, right? It was just amazing to see the symmetry between the goals. Yeah, exactly. So even though they might not have been the prettiest or how they drew them up, I think they earned them with some structure and some good play. I don't want to ask you, too, about the game winning goal. It's tough for a demand to be that poised behind the net. Yes, it's a stationary breakout. But there's a guy who's near him. And he just kind of shuffled, shuffled, found the lane for a deep bomb to Dakota Joshua. Yeah, so it's one, you keep your composure and show some patience to not give it away. Because Canucks have more men there. There's two Oilers. He could easily just chip it up the wall and let a guy skate onto it. But that also lets Joshua get out to the neutral zone, right? So he does the long bomb to Joshua. But Joshua needs the time there. And then he makes a great play. There's Poise on Joshua's end, too, because he's holding it. Garland gets that speed, and he makes a nice play up to him. And that's where we might have seen in games past, they just chip it in, especially when, you know, they're kind of tied to where they might just chip it in and go in for a forecheck, where they do make a play there instead of chipping it in and losing possession. Yeah, I mean, there were a number of good plays made in tonight's game, too. And Canucks had a number of scoring chances that they didn't score on. I mean, Garland, he got the game when in goal, had a golden opportunity in the first period, he got a breakaway chance to intervene in good shape. Some of it was like Joshua, too, just holds up the play. He was looking like a target man, like Harry Kane. Maybe he was watching Champions League. Yeah, exactly, that's what it really is. And instead of laying, just laying it off, you know, takes it. But I think one of the things that's so different about how Edmonton plays from the way Nashville plays is Vancouver can be a bit more aggressive because Edmonton's not quite as reckless as Nashville was. It's how often that we talk about how the Canucks sometimes are kind of stuck, not being able to push forward and be aggressive because of how aggressive Nashville was blowing out of the zone. We talked about that one play in particular. I think it was game four or game six, but Nyquist at the Blue Line, there was a play for Yossi and it's a 50-50 play. He's by the Blue Line, too. And he's already going south, it was game three. He's going south and we're looking for the breakaway pass. And this is even before anybody won the 50-50. Edmonton's not making those types of runs. So what that would do was force Vancouver to stay deep, not let their last line of defense get ahead of anybody else on Nashville, which at times prevented Vancouver from having the puck sport they wanted through the neutral zone and also getting in on the forecheck. Because Edmonton doesn't do that, the Canucks had so much more space and so much more room to push forward tonight and they took advantage of it. - Yeah, deep down on the wall. There's the Lindholm goal right there. Yossi comes down, keeps it in. It goes back to Miller, talking about the conventional D zone that Edmonton plays. It's just more predictable. It allows them to play more of their game, play faster and probably just get into those gaps and get into more dangerous areas. We saw more shots tonight I think than they've got. Oh, did they get any of the predators yet? They might have a couple. - Yeah, I think they had one of the normal shots, right? - Yeah, they had lots more shots. - Yeah. - Getting shots on goal was not the issue here for the Canucks tonight. All right, let's take a couple of phone calls here. We'll take more on the other side of the break as well, but let's at least get one through. So let's go to POCO where we have Holden on the line. Holden, thanks. All right, let's go to Vancouver then where we have Jay on the line. Jay, thanks for calling in. What are your thoughts here tonight? All right, let's try Richard and Pitt Meadows. Richard, what's going on? What are your thoughts here tonight? - Wow, guys. Unbelievable, eh? - Yeah, incredible. Yeah, I've been a Canucks fan, first time, phoning in. I watch on TV, but I listen to your broadcast on the AM radio. Third line, or second line, third line, fourth line. Just relentless tonight, unbelievable. And wow, kudos for putting Shilos in this first game here. What do you think? He deserves a lot of credit, that young kid. Unbelievable, lot of pressure for him. - Yeah, hey, thanks for the phone call. I'm really glad you called him for the first time and glad to see your Canucks winning your Richard. Fantastic stuff, calling in anytime. And as far as we haven't really spoken about Arthur Shilos a ton tonight, I don't know if you want to fault him too much on any of the four goals he gave up. Maybe tracking the puck a little bit, but, it's not like Emmett's had a lot going on in the third, but he made a couple big saves late. He made a couple saves after they had the four two goal. It wasn't maybe a banner night for him. It wasn't like they had a ton of shots on goal. The Emmett's and Orlou's here tonight. Boys, you guys think of the way Shilos played between the pipes. - I thought he played good. I think he had three days like everybody else to hear about this big offensive juggernaut that Conor McDavid didn't lay on drives at all, right? Like, you're coming in that as a goalie and know you're going to get some pretty high end skill coming against you, the highest in the world, and that there's a lot of eyeballs on you. So I think with that in mind, he performed very well. - Yeah, it was a shaky start. You think the one nothing gold and how the building's kind of simmering and slowing down and the two nothing in the car, right? And even at four one, but you know what it is? Just make the next one, right? They're like, "What's the problem?" Just make the next one, right? They had gone like 20 minutes without a shot, and so he was clutching near the end, and I suspect, you know, get the nerves out of this one and see what it looks like in game two being up in game now. - We had some people actually asking us, is there a chance the Canucks starts dismissing game two, Sam from Vancouver, asked that. So a few other people asked that quickly. Do you think you would expect that or not? - No. - Probably not. - No, I mean, he hasn't changed anything even when they're down, so I don't expect him changing. I'm with the Brett, great stuff, man. We look forward to having you on during Intermissions of Postgame on Friday. Game two Canucks and Oilers. Canucks with a one-nothing lead in the series already. - Can't wait. - All right, it's sat and big. We'll be back on the other side. More of your phone calls, more of your text messages, plus we'll hear from Canucks players, and a lot more on the home of your Canucks, Sportsnet 650. - Hey, it's Jamie Dodd and Thomas Drans. Get your daily dose of Canucks talk with us weekdays from 12 to 2 on Sportsnet 650. Or catch up on demand through your favorite podcast app. - This is where you talk Canucks. You're listening to the Canucks Central Post Game Show on the official home of the Canucks. - Sportsnet 650 and the Sportsnet Radio Network. - Besser throws on the brakes. Try to drop past to the line. That was held in by Miller for Sushi. Now to the right circle, Besser. Dumps across ice left corner. Sushi gets it, goes right wide to the right side. Besser to the room. Side of the net, Miller tip, he scores. (crowd cheering) - What a deflection from GT Miller at the side of the net. The Canucks get a goal at four on four, and it's a one goal game. Edmonton leads four to three. - This one ain't over yet. - Listen, I practice that every day for ten years, and I've never had one go in. And honestly, I don't remember the last time I've had an opportunity or tried it. So yeah, it worked perfect, but I wouldn't say lucky. I would say fortunate to perfectly squeeze through there. I was very surprised. - GT Miller joined us on the post game show here. Canucks win five-four to take game one. And this is the Canucks Central post game show presented by the number five orange on Sportsnet 650. Satya Rashaw with Bick Nizar. Keep your thoughts coming into a Dunbar Lumber text in the box. 650, 650. You can also grab a phone line. And 604-280-0650 or toll free. 1-888-275-0650. We'll get to that reaction coming up in a couple of minutes here. And we are here for a full hour to come. And we'll get some Canucks player audio as well after this incredible. Three gold deficit comeback. Five-four victory over the Oilers. And JT talks about maybe a little humble about that tip opportunity he had. It's an outrageous tip goal to score. I mean, the angle that he scores. I mean, there's so little space between the post and skittering for him to be able to get it from that angle. It's outrageous. It really is. Just the ingenuity to think, "You know, I'm going to try this." Yeah. That's high level, man. But you know it's high level. But they need a tip drill in the all-star game. That's what they need. Honestly, not even... Forget an obstacle course for JT. We need a tip drill for JT next all-star game. Well, they have one in football, so they may have... Tip drill, yeah. And it's also a famous rap song, but that's a different story for a different day. All right. Keep your thoughts coming in for a dumbbar lumbar text unbox. 6.56.50. We had a number of people texting in about this game here tonight. And one player in particular that did get a lot of love was Nikita Zadorov. But you heard the head coach talk about his presence not only defensively in the game, but also in the locker room. Keeps the guys loose and everything. If it's up to the head coach, I think he's one of the top guys. He'd love to see this team retain beyond this season. Yeah, Marty didn't in IMO. Any doubt the connection Resign Joshua and Zadorov to high level playoff performers. CP is texting in. Sorry. Lotso. Lindholm was awesome. McCay of Gritty. Garland clutch. Josh went up Zadorov. Crafty. Miller deadly. Best I got. Adjective is plenty, boys. Euler's were put on notice. And yeah, Zadorov was huge. And look, even part of the narrative of when he arrived was like, "Okay, Battle of Alberta." He had a rough series. So there's a lot for him to prove in this series. And so far through one game, what an audition for Nikita Zadorov to remain in Vancouver and go up against Conor McDavid. And that's the big thing. I was talking about this on the show earlier today. Like someone like Philip Ronik. Like there's a lot at stake for a lot of guys because if you can't be part of the solution against this team, the McDavid problem is not going away. Yeah. He's going to be an Edmonton for a while. But you can't help be part of the solution. Why should the Canucks extend a contract and an invitation to anyone to try to solve? And they're pushed to decisions on some of these. You can't just do this on projection. Yeah. If it doesn't work this time, that's kind of the recipe to say, "Alright, we have to make a decision on you." And if it doesn't work, maybe you're not fit for us. But so far through one game, is Zadorov checked a big box and Conor checked a big box today? They certainly did. And Zadorov was tremendous in the first round against the Preds and followed that up with another strong game tie. The game had four with his shot from the point beating Stuart Skinner. And the roof almost popped off this building here at Rogers Arena. Jason from Courtland with the alt text of, "Who's your zaddy?" Guys, what did I just witness? Bye, God. That was beautiful in the last 15 minutes. I'm exhausted. I think I don't think I felt this alive in 13 years. Yeah. And that is unsigned. The talk is preached all season, teaching different players lessons all season long. This is exactly why when your back is against the wall, what do you do when it all matters? What do you do? What do they do today? Yeah. William and Langley says Euler's denial tonight. Coach, we didn't have any major breakdowns. Two, McDavid. I really liked our game tonight. Three, Skinner, we gave them this one. Good Lord. Are these guys really serious? Did they see what we all did to them? I had an element of, like, when you got four, one, you expected to close it out. For sure. If you feel like they're underestimating the connects, that's where you want them to be. You want them to keep underestimating them if that's the vibe they're giving off and that's completely fine. At least that's the way I do it. This is exactly what we talked about, right? After the series winning, it's Nashville and Friday. We talked about, this is now house money. The connects can play loose and that's what was so interesting with the first period. They look tense. They are a team that's very driven this year. Of course, of course. They're loose, but they still look at it as, we can beat these guys. Of course. But for me, all the pressure is on Edmonton coming into the series. They've been here multiple times. It's upon them to kind of complete the story now. You've been to the third round, you've lost. This is a multi-year build to get to this stage. This is the first year for the connects. So not just a learning experience with a roster of construction element of this is still being played out. We'll get played out over the next 18 months, two years. This is what's supposed to happen for Edmonton and they lose this one. And now this is where that tension is going to start building up. This is doing it all over again. This is why all the people have texted in and see the doubt is planted. They've gone through this and not succeeded. If you don't do it this time with the narrative of all third string goalie and this and all these other things. Boy, that's going to start mounting real fast. Well, hey, for all the playoff experience, the Canucks may lack as a team and as a young team at that for a lot of their key players. At least they're not brooding by a lot of playoff failures of the past. And I think that is also something that can free you up in certain situations. NAB and Dallas says what a game not going to lie. I was kind of worried when it was 4-1. I think everybody was. But this team does not give up in the past years. This team would have been deflated. I think it's a good loss in a couple of bad goals. We did an excellent job shutting them down defensively. McDavid, zero shots. We can take these guys. Hopefully we get them go back in this round. That's NAB and Dallas texting in. All right. We'll get to more of your text as the show goes on. But let's go to the phone boards as well. 604-280-0650 or toll free. 1-888-275-0650. Let's go to Lions Bay where we have Jose on the line. Jose, what's happening, man? What are your thoughts after this big Canucks victory at Roger Street? Hey, Nick. First of all, guys, I got to tell you. I asked what it was like 4-1. I was like, "Okay, this could get ugly." I will admit, when Linhull scored that goal to make it 4-2, I was actually in the kitchen grabbing a drink out of the frame. I don't know if I could paddle it anymore. But I got to tell you, I was back glued to it. When I take a look at a couple of players, guys, that we talked about, the Canucks actually acquiring before the trade deadline. Nick, he does the door up, obviously, and also Leah's Linhull. You know, you're looking at these two guys. Two points each, both major contributions. Can you imagine the Canucks in this series without Linhull and Audrey Cruz-Manko still on the team? Like, it wouldn't be the same thing. I think you all know that, right? I mean, these guys are built to actually play in perform when it really matters the most. I have to say, though, I mean, when the season is over and the Canucks have to make some decisions, and I know that was being referenced a little by Nick earlier, as well, too. And you, too, as well, too, sat. There's going to be some tough decisions. I got to tell you, I really like the door. This is where he shines. And I think he's been around the block. He played in Buffalo, Colorado, right? Calgary. But I think he's really bringing it together and he's really learning how to control the motions where it's like this almost controlled rage on the ice, where it's awesome. I love him nailing and pushing around the van to change his world, too, with a lot of fun. Now, one other comment I just wanted to make. One of my friends was saying, "Did the Canucks going to beat the Oilers?" You know, there are a couple of things I thought about. The bottoms for defense on the Oilers. It's somewhat weak. Some of the actual speed, you know, the Canucks actually bring against the Oilers. But one thing that I really set mentioned to a lot of friends that I can see being an advantage is Stuart Skinner. So, guys, this was the 65th game that Stuart Skinner has played this year. Like, he's played a lot of games. You know what happened to Campbell? Calvin Picard is really an angel going as a backup right now. He's really not an option. And so they're playing Skinner a lot. And the longer they go into the series, the more tired and fatigued that guy's going to get. And remember, if he wasn't looking, I believe last year's World 2, I knew he struggled in the playoffs as well. So, is he better? Absolutely. You know, he's come a long way. But I do believe that they will replace him. And that may be his better to remain cooler. Guys, back to you. Hey, thanks for the phone call. That's Jose. And Lions Bay calling in. It's a great shout-out on the usage on Skinner, right? It's the reason you try to limit it to 55 or less in the regular season. It's because you want a guy fresh. And so, here he is at Game 65. He played 59 in the regular season. But, yeah, it's -- and he's not touted as the, you know, traditional, like, workhorse. Yeah. He can extend that past, you know, 63 games. It's a good shout-out there by Jose. And almost maybe had -- did he have too much time off between games over a week off between the Oilers? Well, I mean, technically he's just a week off for them, whereas the Canucks had the five days, four days completely off before playing the first game of round two here tonight against the Oilers. And as far as the door-op, the one thing he is, like, he is a bit of a nuclear option in the playoffs. Like, nobody messes with him in the playoffs. We saw it in his Nashville. Yeah. In Nashville, he went after Yoshi. He got in anybody's face and nobody did anything. He's just like, "All right, cool." And he -- He's looking like Steve Austin on the ice, just, like, walking -- Yeah, look at it. Doesn't matter. Who's next? Yeah, and nobody steps up to him. He crunched Evander Kane in the first. And then he gave us Kane a shove, and Kane did nothing. He's like, "No, I'm good." That's honestly, like, having that on your team in the playoffs, plus he's scoring goals, like, and he's been steady. You know how we talk about his game having some variance from time to time? We get, like, these eight, nine, ten out of ten performances. Then you'll have, like, two or three out of ten. We really haven't seen that in his game. Like, the lowest maybe was a seven, maybe six if you want to, you know, be critical of him, which is still something you can live with if a player is, like, a six or a seven out of ten on any given night being his low end in the playoffs. But he's a bit of a deterrent out there, man. Like, I don't see anybody really trying to make him answer the bell for anything he does out there. I guess the best candidate would be Vincent de Harnay. Yeah. But it's, like, back end versus back end. It's tough. I guess it's just a tougher reality. You know, Dry Saddle's got some nasty to his game. So, like, maybe. But you really want Dry Saddle focused on the keys of the door up and trying to patrol that. No. And, you know, Corey Perry, maybe. But, like, that's a out-of-weight class. And Corey Perry played ten minutes tonight. Not a lot of uses for him. Connor Brown played seven. Derek Ryan played seven minutes. So they lean on their guys. Yeah. And Connor McDavid played 24. Bouchard played 25. Vekholm played 23. Hyman played 21. Dry Saddle ends up playing 16-43, but he missed eight minutes. They were the second period. Yeah. They got a lot of usage and a five-four loss out of it. Yeah. Huge. Huge for the Canucks here tonight. Let's continue on the foam boards. And let's go to Vane Kuber, where we have Matt on the line. Matt, thanks for calling in. What are your thoughts here tonight after a huge Canucks win? Hi, guys. I went to the game tonight. Delighted idea. It was, you know, the best live experience I've ever had. Canucks fans, we've criticized ourselves so much for how we, you know, are in it, in arena atmosphere. But I mean, the cheering was incredible. And I had to say, like, during, after JT Miller's goal, during the commercial break, the JT Miller chant, like, if you guys were in building there, like, I don't know, went on for more than a minute. It was just kept going and kept going and kept going. And it was incredible. And I'd love, if anybody from the Canucks was listening, please, like, you don't have to kill that stuff with the club music. All of a sudden, like, we don't have ADD, like, let the nervous energy build up. Get bored and let us just create, like, or, I mean, us, anybody who's in there, Canucks fans are amazing. For on the ice stuff, Cole has got to have some better composure with the puck. I don't know. Like, everybody on the coaching staff would see it. Like, on the second goal, he just threw the puck away. At both ends of the ice, we're at one after another. And, and, and, and, and, and, and Hoaglander, I would love to see him make a pass. Like, I, again, I was watching live, so it's different than when you're on the TV and you see everything replay. But I don't know if Hoaglander, did he complete any passes to PD, almost? Like, I guess he had one actually out into the slot that PD couldn't score. But through the neutral zone, all that connecting play, like, I remember Hoaglander was doing touch passes to Lafferty coming through the middle of the ice and making the guy look like Mary Old View. Uh, these amazing transition plays and stuff. But I, Hoaglander's, like, very hesitant. Like, he's stopping up instead of driving and then he's missing the trailer by, like, 10 feet. So, I'm not trying, no negativity towards the team and what happened because that was one of the greatest experience in my life. Um, you know, spent the inheritance money on the tickets tonight. I love you, Anthony. Honestly, I love you, Aunt Susan. Last time I saw her was in 2011, she lives in Australia and I got blessed or so. Um, and, uh, old Canucks fans love you too. Kate, that's me. Thanks, guys. Hey, thanks for the phone call. And, yeah, obviously rest in peace. But I will say about Matt's comments about, hey, the building and game ops and music, our executive producer, Cam Berra mentioned that I don't think music was played in the final six minutes. That, like, in the in-game breaks or the whistles, it was just the vibes of the crowd the whole way, taking it home. I think he's right. Like, during the chant at some point, they did play some music over the JT chant, but after that, I think they kind of- That was much earlier. That was much earlier. But the JT chant, yeah, I mean, we're here at the building as well. And we spoke to JT post-game about it too. And, you know, jokingly, he said in the past he hasn't heard the chants. That one was hard not to hear. I mean, it was definite. It was the loudest chant we've heard in this building, uh, for many, many years. And, you know, in terms of the atmosphere, we got tons of people texting in the same thing being at the game here tonight. Unincredible atmosphere. And there wasn't any nervous energy. Somebody texted in about that and said, "Hey, you know, I've been a fan and I've been watching them in '03 and 2011." And far less nervous energy in the building, even when they went down 4-1. And part of it is, you know, it's been so long and it's been kind of gravy and unexpected this season for what they've done so far as well. So there isn't that, that, that, the weight of expectation and the nervousness of failed expectations in the playoffs for a year after year. I know it's been a while since it's been in the playoffs, but I don't think people are being weighed down by some of the same fears they've had in the years past. All right, let's continue on the foam board. Let's go to Maple Ridge, where we have Gary on the line. Gary, thanks for calling in. What are your thoughts here tonight? Uh, have you got me? We got you, Gary. Uh, you will not believe this. My cable went out last, uh, yesterday evening. And I could not watch the game tonight. I attempted to, uh, I phoned up the cable guy, shot cable, and he actually gave me the, uh, he told me, we're down 1-0, uh, Hyman just scored. Now, I was pretty upset at that point. Then we were down 2-0, and I said, "Ah, you've got to be kidding." And then we scored, but what I'm going to tell you is this. When we started scoring, when it was 4-2, I thought, "You've got to be joking. It's not going to happen." And then we scored, uh, and I was listening to the guys on the radio, and it was 4-3. Then it was 4-0. I was losing my voice at this point, screaming at the radio, and when we scored the fifth goal, I just said, "Oh, you've got to be kidding." You know, and this is without cable. I have no, I have to, I have to reorganize my whole room because the cable guy is coming in tomorrow. All I can say is this, the guys on the radio were terrific. The call was terrific. And I actually told a buddy of mine that works at No Frills. I told him, I asked him what he thought, and he said to him, "If we can control Conor McDavid, which we did tonight, we'll win the game." Well, we won the game. It's only one game, but you know what? Are we having fun or not? Thanks, guys. Thanks to the phone call. Gary, Maple Ridge, without the TV, fired up, watching and hearing his team win tonight, coming back from behind. Let's continue on the board. Let's go to another Gary, this one in Vancouver. Gary, what are your thoughts here tonight after Canucks taking game one against Edmonton? Boys, my thoughts are fired up. Normally the young kids would be saying the boys cooked tonight, but today the boys baked. And then they baked a big old humble pie in the Canucks fans are now feeding it to Ray Whitney on Twitter. I'll tell you that. I'm so fed up with the amount of disbelief in this team from the media. So much so. The commentary team of Cupboard and Simpsons led me out of my house and into my car so I can listen to Bach and Randeep and they were fantastic. I've heard four goals from Randeep and Bach on the radio and they're currently painted a better picture of the game today. So much so. They say 10 and 2 on the wheels I had C and Ling because my hands were punching the roof of my car on my way to Pointy Roberts because I went to go fill up some gas and I listened to the game on the radio. I was in Barbados for game one of the series, game one of the Nashville series. So I figured, you know what? Maybe I need to get out of the country to turn the fortunes around for the boys today. And again, game one of the Edmonton series out of the country, well, only a couple kilometers out of the country, but, you know, it worked. What a wonderful comeback victory. You know, Artor Silos has not lost a gaming regulation where he's led in four goals this season. Okay. And, I mean, mind you, Edmonton didn't have that many shots on goals in the third period, but holding Connor McDavid to zero shots in the game for the first time in the playoff game, that is something to be said about this team. Defensively how they play the star players and how talk it's got these guys believing and the word resiliency. It just, you know, fits like a glove on this team and I'm so, so pumped and so happy to be a Canucks fan today. And Scott Road Shelley. You know what? You know, they got the goal going and we need more of that. Let's go boys. Let's go. Hey, great stuff. Gary calling in fantastic fired up. And yeah, I mean, if you listen to the radio batch of Randy fired up incredible calls for the Canucks five four comeback victory. One thing I did want to address and this is going back to the previous caller, not Gary, the one before that, who mentioned about Hoaglander, Matt and Vancouver, who was at the game mentioned Patterson. He didn't want to be negative, but didn't think Hoaglander had a clean game and not to spend too much time on the negatives because I know Jay and Poco and others are also texting and saying where was Patterson tonight. Fair because that line didn't generate enough. I mean, McKay have had what five greatest scoring chances tonight. Elliot McKay of tonight ended up with, I'm just looking at shots here. Two shots on goal. Two with one more attempt and the one attempt is off the post. Right. Yeah. So, I mean, again, a couple other chances too, where he missed the net. There was one net front chance he had and somehow missed the net on it as well. So he had a number of opportunities in this game. But to the point Matt made, Hoaglander had a tough time and we wondered during the second intermission if the coach would take Hoaglander off that line at some point. Now, we did see Lafferty take a few shifts with McKay of and Patterson in the third period as well. So I wonder if that played into it at all. It was the two plays, the two shifts where, one, he generates a turnover. It goes off his skate and he pounces on it and all of these got to do is slide Patterson in. Like even a bad, sweet pass. Just put the puck into a dangerous area and he just doesn't do it and ends up trying to do a stop, turn around, do the spin. Because Manko Ian's spin in the offensive zone and the chance just goes banking. And then even on that shift, just sends a pass, rank wide through three sticks. He thought, all right, well, that's a tough one. And then later, there's a sequence, a zone exit right to him in the middle of the ice. And Patterson kind of does the Talladega night shaking bake where he overlaps so many flies through the neutral zone. You think, you just got to slide into him. He's got to break away. Just kind of skates where that chips it in. Okay, there's another chance. And they went offside too because he forces Patterson offside. And you think, you have to recognize those moments. Like, this is the playoffs. This is not game 14 against. Sorry, Columbus. Columbus where it's like, oh, well, we can focus on this later. You got to be perfect at this stage of the season. And especially when you're in the top six, you're playing fourth line. Okay, like you're missing it limited. Just be safe more than anything. But you're going to play next to Elias Patterson. Production has to be part of the name of the game. And maximizing opportunities are going to be so rare to come by. You have to do it. And those are two tough shifts. And I did want to highlight his move there to help the Zadorov goal because it was a good play to recover from what happened in the second period. But if right now, if you're going to make any adjustments, that to me is one I would look at is. Yeah. Honestly, I saw PDG out there. I know it was a shift where the move I would consider is PDG with Miller and Besser and Souter with PD and McCabe. Yeah, but I suit has been so good with those guys too. I almost don't want to mess it up. But like, you're going to put PDG with Patterson and McCabe. I don't know if that works at least. Yeah, you're right. But I mean, at least he would be the digger on that line. Sure. But who's the kid? Yeah, it's true. Like that to me would be the change. And who would be most likely to go to the top six? It's probably PDG. Probably is. Yeah. But it's playing with Miller. You're right. I mean, but the only one that makes sense. But you see the dilemma here, especially with how well Lindholm, Garland, and Joshua play it tonight. You don't want to separate those three guys. And between Blueger, Lafferty, PDG, they're kind of light there in terms of not having missing that extra forward. So it's a tough choice to make. Colton and Kamloops text in and says we were not talking enough about the turning point in this game. Nugent Hopkins hitting the post when it was four or two, a point blank chance alone in front of when it was four on four. And we score shortly after. That wasn't quite as bad as scissors missing an empty net, but it was just as impactful Colton and Kamloops. And, you know, people texted in to some people and mentioned she loves not having a great game. He wasn't. He didn't even know where the puck was. Like, yeah, he was staring. Yeah, he was looking at the opposite direction. That goes off the post. And that's a great shout. In terms of she loves, I do expect him and we know and Brett mentioned before we let him go to that he gets game to. But that was one of those performances where it's like, all right, like you showed well against Nashville. The next game has got to be good. If not, because the Smith played well against Edmonton in the regular season. Not to say they're going to go away from it. It did slightly ever so slightly, you know, and it's not like it was bad tonight. But he wasn't as clean. And I think tracking the puck and keeping track of what the Oilers do in front of him was a bit of a challenge at times tonight. Did enough to get to know you? 100% 100% but this is just, you know, outlining a couple negatives. It was, hey, that we mentioned the equal to, right? And the Canucks being undisciplined to start the game. And I guess the other part is the Canucks power play tonight. And maybe we'll just wrap up the negative. They had three power play opportunities. They had a couple of chances here and there, but generally speaking, it wasn't quite good enough on the man advantage tonight either when they had their opportunity. Two best looks they had was Lindholm on a transition chance. Yeah. They entered the zone and JT kind of flipped it right back to Lindholm and he got a shot off. And he went short side on that one. And then JT had a seam pass to Pedersen for a one timer and it just misses the top corner. Yeah. And I mean, that's really about it. That's pretty much it. So I mean, hey, the Canucks won this game. Incredible comeback. They were by far the better team dominated the third period. Gutsy resilient win. They can still be better. And for all the talk about Edmonton can be better. I think the Canucks can still be better than what they showed tonight and not gifting a few goals. And hey, usually if you're down three goals against Edmonton, you give them a couple goals early. Usually they'll win these games. It's a huge one to take away from the Edmonton Oilers here tonight. The Canucks with the 1-0 series lead. Do we have time? Yeah. We're going to break. Yeah. We're going to do another phone call too. I just want to say someone texted in about the comeback wins and how many of the Canucks have had. Obviously, the late game for comeback, Besser and doing it in overtime. So this is now three comeback wins for the Canucks so far this series did these playoffs. Sorry. And they win in OT. So it's not a third period comeback win, but it's a comeback win nevertheless during the season. The Canucks third period comeback wins and only had three on the year. Unreal. So they've done quite a job here so far through these playoffs. Let's take a couple phone calls here. You know, because we have a couple people that are on the line from very far away. So I don't want to hold them online until after the break. Let's go to Melbourne, Australia, where we have miles on the line. Miles, thanks for calling in, buddy. What are your thoughts here tonight? Hey, so how are you? I was just going to think that we did win the game tonight, but what we really won was the mental game. I mean, for us to come back from 4-1 when we're by far not at our best, Petey's not really producing. That's really got to do a mental number on Edmonton. It's sown the seat of doubt for the whole series and we keep winning from behind and they haven't beaten us all season. So, you know, I don't want to -- I can't live caught up made, but this is exactly what we needed to believe in ourselves and sown the seat of doubt whenever we explore on Edmonton. Yeah, absolutely. Hey, Miles, always nice hearing from you, man. Enjoy the game down under and hopefully a better game too as well. Fantastic stuff. And, you know, he's absolutely right-pick. I mean, it's one of those games where, you know, the Canucks showed a lot of resiliency and there are things that, you know, they can and should still do better. Yeah, and we're talking about the seat of doubt from the mental side of what he was talking about there, but also, what about from the Canucks vantage point, right? An emotional hurdle kind of gets cleared. The seat of confidence? Yeah. Yeah, but obviously, you still got to go win the series and go win three more games, but now what a boost this is. All the trials and tribulations this team has gone through for the past two years, and can you do it? Can we be better? Can we rise to the moment? Can we play defense? And can we get to the playoffs? You get here. What are you going to do? They win the series. All right, now you've kind of arrived to the scene of being one of the final eight teams, and there's still more to do, obviously. But coming from behind in this environment against the division rival gets a team who's supposed to be the one that's sending, and this is their moment. Can you be the one that knock them off the perch? And you start to build your own confidence, puff your chest out a little bit, and so that's a big one for them too. Yeah, absolutely, a huge one for the Canucks confidence and mindset they're going to have heading into game two. All right, let's take one more phone call before we hit the break. Let's go to Thunder Bay, Ontario, where we have Mike on the line. Mike, thanks for calling in, buddy. What are your thoughts here tonight? Hi there. Hi, well, first off, thank you for being on the air. Love the show. I had disappointed that I couldn't watch the game tonight. CBC was supposed to have it on, and Jim didn't have it on, so I got home, didn't have the game. I put you guys on. I was listening to Batch earlier today. What a wonderful call. The fourth goal was to Dora, Batch, and Randy were awesome. The fifth goal, Batch was supreme, man. I loved it. So thank you for that. I love she loves, by the way. I just wanted to say that. I was wanting she loves, and that I was hoping we get to see them in these playoffs. So I'm very happy with all of that, and it's just lovely to hear all the comment you're putting in now that's filling in the picture that I couldn't see. CBC got an email from me, and I dropped their app, but I can not get you not. However, you guys are awesome. Thank you so much. Have a good night. Thanks, Mike. Thanks for the kind words and congrats on your Canucks. Thing up late, man. It's like two days. Thirty in the morning at Thunder Bay. All right. We got to hit the break. We'll be back here with more on the other side. No, I'm back tonight because games have gone long, but we'll get more of your text, more of your phone calls. Plus, we'll hear from Canucks players after a monumental five four comeback victory in game one against the Oilers. And this is the Canucks Central Post game show presented by the number five orange of Vancouver legend. They've got sports to more next on the home of your Canucks sports net 650. Miss any part of Alfred and breath in the morning? Subscribe to the show wherever you get your podcast and don't miss an episode. This is where you talk Canucks. You're listening to the Canucks Central Post game show on the official home of the Canucks. Sports net 650 and the Sports net radio network. Joshua holds in with a shot that rolled through the slot to the front corner. Susie on the fourth. Gets it down low. Joshua led a heavy hit on Hyman and Lindholm's got a behind the net center. He's losing the freeze. He scores. Elias Lindholm from below the goal line makes it past Stuart Skinner and in. And the Canucks make it 42 with under three minutes left in the second. Lindholm gets the goal, but the hard work of Carson Sousie and Dakota Joshua along the left hand side to pressure Zack Hyman creates this as they pinch in. They're aggressive on the left hand side. The puck goes to Elias Lindholm behind the net and then a little bank pass was off the stick of Stuart Skinner as he's expecting the pass through the crease, but it actually hits the paddle of his stick on the inside and goes right through his legs. Smart play by Lindholm, but hard work by Sousie and Dakota Joshua. Canucks made it 42 at the time, queuing their comeback when 5-4. After coming back from a three goal deficit, two goals down in the third and the game winner from Connor Garland. You heard the call. That was a 4-2 goal. Elias Lindholm getting it. And this is the Canucks Central Post game show presented by number five orange on the home of the Canucks Sports net 650 and the Sports net radio network. Keep getting your thoughts into our text inbox, 650-650. You can also grab a phone line as well. We are going to get to some player audio here on the post game show. You do want to hear from some Canucks players, including Zadorov, of course. But before we do that, we do have a lot of people texting in as well as you would expect. Brandon and Poco says the Oilers look like the Maple Leafs tonight failing to hold on to the lead with poor goal tending and ultimately losing. Jokes per 60, always there. Mike Tawassen, C to confidence is a great name for a bagel. Good way to start the day. This one bangs in Calgary. I live in Calgary and I think I heard my whole neighborhood cheer when time ran out in the third period. I hate a strong year. Flames fans are cheering for the Canucks. Who would have thought? Who would have thought? The enemy of my enemy. Is your enemy? Yeah, exactly. This one, Scooter in Port Moody, Canucks had their way in transition tonight through the neutral zone entering Edmonton's end. Strong Ford check forcing a lot of turnovers and extra space night versus the Predators series was astonishing. Oilers lack of structure and offensive play was surprising. The Scooter in Port Moody. Yeah, nearly Canucks text in and says great show as usual guys. What a freaking comeback win tonight. In my opinion, Pederson has to be split up on his line now that Abby Canucks are done and unfortunately the app is for Canucks are out of the AHL playoffs. Or maybe get put Colton in the lineup put in with PD and Hoaglander or McKayev and move the odd man out to the fourth line or sit him out. So we'll see if they do that, if put Colton gets into the lineup. I just don't know if a guy who hasn't scored any goals goes from being out of the lineup to playing with Pederson. But it's something to wonder about if they do make a change on that line at some point. Now you won this game and I would say they don't make a change heading into game two, especially winning this hockey game. And there's still a few Hoaglander as a young player learning. So perhaps you're looking at it as is this another learning experience? And now for the game two, the series, maybe he plays a bit better. That's kind of your hope right now heading into game two I think. Yeah, and what's interesting too about the, you know, talking about some of them from the fourth line up. I thought the fourth line did okay tonight. You know, with high danger chances they were equal when they were out there, the shot metrics overall favor. But they were out there against the fourth, the McDavid or Drysot a line a couple of times. There was a shift, Drysot a McDavid went out together after a Canucks power play and it was the fourth line out there. You're like, "Oh man, is this the right moment?" And they did the job and there was a couple of ones. Even though, like right before the CC goal, Lafferty has a great shift, three on two, drives the net, shoots logos off nurse, rebound, creates another net front chance, just a prolonged shift in the zone versus dry side. And then just unfortunate that it's the CC flip out just to relieve the pressure and it just creates the opportunity for Ryan to drop into CC and there's the three one goal. But, you know, the fourth line had their elements and even in moments when they're out there against the stars, they managed to survive. Yeah, absolutely. And if you do that, you're still getting the job done. David from Kelowna says, "Thank God for the Tell us TV Plus," and since we're on Rogers or the Sportsnet Plus app, I though app, but says, "I had to take the wife to the hospital, so you had to watch the game on the phone." Never doubted them for a minute. When they tied the game, I scared all the nurses at the desk as they all looked up. I had to tell them, "She's okay." It was the hockey game I'm yelling about. Hopefully your wife is doing all right. David from Kelowna texting in. But, yeah, man, pins and needles, one of those games that, you know, maybe not a lot of people expected them to come back and win. They certainly did come back and win this one. All right, let's hit a couple phone calls here before we get to some player audio. Let's go to Bella, Bella, where we have Dawn on the line. Dawn, thanks for calling in. What are your thoughts here tonight? Oh, hey, thanks for taking my call. That's an awesome big win, but we don't want to go down three goals to those guys. But what a Lindholm played a really good game. But I want to ask you guys a question leading up to the series. The Oilers are so heavily favored going in. Understandably why with, you know, Dry Sidel and McDavid on the other side. And I know it's only one game, but I want to ask you guys, what do you guys think the rest of the hockey world is thinking right now? Because are they going to give Vancouver any respect at all now? Because Vancouver is a pretty good team. Thanks a lot. Hey, thanks for the phone call, Don. Hey, I'm not sure if people will give Vancouver the respect that I think people want in this market, but I say number one, who cares? As long as the Canucks keep winning. And if it takes forever for people to turn around, that's fine. And if Edmonton still underestimates them, even better. I wouldn't worry about it too much, but hey, they play another game like this in game two and take that, then it's going to be hard to ignore. Does your faith need to be validated by other people's faith? I don't think so at all. And so if other people are late to the party, then they're late to the party. We'll see what happens to six more games, but hey, you get to the final aid, you got to punch your chance. And I was looking at it today. How many teams have been swept or even five games in the salary cap era? And I think it's a 28 series have only ended in five or less games. So you know that that's... You got to punch your chance in it. So the Canucks are making it tough. Absolutely they are. With the Abistard Canucks being out, this one says, "Put Lakerimaki in for Hulklander." I don't know if that's going to happen. Can we have him do a practice for us? We'll see what happens. All right. Let's take one more phone call before we get to some player audio here. Let's go to Langley, where we have Jono on the line. Jono, what's happening, man? What are your thoughts here tonight? Hey, guys. Hey, thanks for bringing me on. Second time caller since game one, Nashville. Remember me? I was the McCarran chirper. I was the difference maker. Now I wasn't, but I thought I was. Anyway, guys, I got a few things. I didn't chirp too much tonight, actually. I just didn't have... There was just didn't, but timing wasn't there. I just didn't have it tonight. But you know, I got a few things to touch on. You know, the analysts and all the... Everyone who want to pick in the Oilers, this is just a taste. So it is such sweet. And you know, you got to remember 2000, you know, the Oilers and the Nashville Predators, they were going since Christmas, the best teams in the league. And you know what? They both had a gas now, guys. That's what's going on. Remember in '02, '03, the Canucks were the best teams since Christmas, and they went out to Colorado, and it's right back then. The same thing, and these teams don't have it. The Canucks, you know what? They've been doing load management since the All-Star break. And I swear, they'd be president's trophy winners if they wanted to. And I think that's an untold story, and I'd like to see more on that. Anyway, a couple more here. Patterson, I thought he played great defensively, and I was in section 116. I was two throws behind the Oilers bench, and I know I saw Patterson up close. He just, you know, guys, he doesn't have a physical stature to do the playoff stuff. But you know what? He's still being effective, and I still think he's given her. And, you know, five on five Canucks for the better team all night. Face-offs, Canucks dominated. Last thing, I think there was some karma, because Paul Coffee has eyewitness, and it's true. Check your social media. Guys will hang up and listen. Hey, thanks for the phone call. As John, what do you see at the end there? Did you catch that? Some of Paul Coffee... Look, we got some text about it. We're too busy. We haven't talked about it. We'll do our own. So, some allegations about Paul Coffee with some interactions with some fans. Now, listen, because of the nature of the allegations, until we know more, you know what I mean? And what's verified, what isn't, and if this stuff is verified, you will hear more about it. I promise you will talk about it. It's just one of those things where there's no real evidence, no real quotes, no real video or audio yet on this, or nobody will have discussions about stuff, but Paul Coffee getting into it fans, and perhaps some things that shouldn't have been said. We're perhaps said now, again, we don't have enough details on this, but if we get more details on it, and of course, we will talk about it a bit more. On the other point, he made about, you know, Patterson, he thought it was good defensively. I don't think anybody was bad defensively. I've said a few mistakes. We mentioned on the first three goals, but I thought the effort defensively, by all guys, was pretty solid. I actually thought JT struggled for the first half of the game. I'm talking about 18 shots on goal for the Oilers tonight. Yeah, I mean, they really were fantastic all night against this Edmonton Oilers team on both sides of the ice for the most part. And they started well on the PK. It was just, they eventually got their entry, and May, it really does look lethal when you come to their spades. And tonight, or other speed, power play goes one for one. Yeah, it does. And not to start the connection one in the game, you know, give up a power, give up a too many men penalty, the bane of their existence, the too many men penalties this season. But aside from that, yeah, and yeah, a couple call mistakes and sounds for that. No, but for penalties. Oh, yeah, that was it. I was very skeptical on the narrative of, well, they can stay out of the box. You take 22 penalties in the six games. It's natural. You were 10th in this league, time short handed this season. I was skeptical they'd be able to do it, but hey, it's just the one power play tonight for the Oilers, so that's a job well done. Yeah, it really was. Did a good job staying out of the box after the first minute of this game and unfortunately gave up a goal on the man advantage. All right, we mentioned some player audio post game and a player getting a lot of, a lot it's tonight is Nikita Zadora. You never want to miss what he has to say post game. And here is the Canucks big defenseman, big Z talking about how inspiring the game was. We all watched the Real Madrid game today. They came back, scored two goals at the end to make the Champions League finals. It's our inspiration. At least there was mine. I don't think he is able to get back to Canadian media. Why not? It's off on the daisy. Why you score a goal, he was happy. You had in this game a couple of big hit series in that goal, you know, and assist on the winner just all of it. Yeah, I mean, Tati, make a great play. He made a delay. It was a lot of room for me to get a shot through, you know, likely hit the net. You know, goalie was screened and went through and the fifth goal, the quarter was a little bit patient in the middle. I just saw him make a play and he barely made an unbelievable move on the goal. He scored a big goal for us. I mean, there's a lot of belief in this group, you know, we're down to do for a national. I don't think anybody given up, even when we were down 4-1, we were staying positive because we liked our 5-1-5 game. You know, they got a couple of bounces. When other side, they have a lot of skill, you know, they're going to bear it on their chances. But you've got to give the credit every guy in this room and Arthur stood with us at the end too. So it was an overall great team win for sure. Is it hard to stay positive after the 4-1 goal? No, it's not. No, because I thought when you play it well, it's easy to play positive when you play like that. It's hard to play positive. Yeah, but I feel like we were controlling the game pretty well in 5-1-5. You know, we got an early bar play and it's a kill for us. At the start of the game, that kind of took us out of the rhythm a little bit, but, I mean, we stick to it. You know, some guys made a big vlog. It was the best that they had. Everybody lay on the line. It was great to see. The only alone, I think, was 6 of those final 2 periods. What was that say about the way this team plays? Yeah, I mean, we've been talking about for a few days our defensive structure, how we want to play against those guys. That's our game. You know, that's our mindset. We take the pride of what we do defensively. That is the key to Zadoraov post-game. And you always want to hear his comments post-game. And he says, "Yeah, we obviously, when you play well, it's not hard to be confident. Even if you are down 4-1 like they were, if you play like, you know, maybe you're not as confident." But, you know, the Canucks played well. By the way, I was joking when I said maybe they watched the Champions League earlier with Harry Kane. Nick Nizzar somehow knows, somehow new, you know. That's incredible, incredible comeback by Real Madrid. Yeah, I mean, Harry Kane, they've bottled it and taught them. They're bottling it and firing. It just keeps happening. I don't know what's going on over there. But, I mean, on that notion, like even when the Canucks were down 4-1, we were talking about this on press roll. We're sitting there watching the game even in the intermission when they're down 4-2. Like, I mean, the Canucks have played well. Yeah, they 5-1-5, they were the better team. I'm sure Edmonton can rue the day because they had the lead and they lost. But I don't know if anybody can hold a straight face on the Edmonton side and say Edmonton was a better team tonight because they weren't. No, the Canucks were, like, lit. They were their own worst enemy. Yeah, great song. Yeah, and they shot themselves in the foot time, time again. And finally, they just kind of chipped away. And there's the Lindholm goal, which was such a nice play by so many different guys, right? Lindholm wins the battle along the board, gets that puck out. And Garland chates in after it. Joshua falling it up and cutting that pass off. And puck to the other side. Carson Sousie Pinches, who, by the way, a couple of people have texted him. Yeah, the Sousie ones that somebody brought it up and said, "Guys, we have to get Carson Sousie some credit for the week. The way he played here tonight, he was tremendous. How have you guys talked about him?" And, you know, we haven't really got into a ton of a lot of different things to talk about. But I know you mentioned that during the first intermission, but also as we were watching the game, his active defensive play, his stick, and how well he stopped the cycle a few times, he had a really strong hit. He wasn't anywhere near as noticeable in the national series as it was tonight. And that's a huge sign. If it's going to be Myers and Sousie out there versus McDavid, and I think they, I'll bring it up here, but I'm pretty sure they led the way against McDavid. If it's going to be them, well, they've got to be fantastic. There's just no other way to talk about it. They have to be the best. It was Myers and Sousie up near nine minutes. Ninety-seven, five on five for Myers, eight-nineteen for Carson Sousie. So they have to be good. Carson Sousie jumps up in that play for the Lindholm goal, and then makes an unbelievable pass to Brock Besser to set up the JT goal. So good job by Carson Sousie tonight. You want to see that continue? Yeah, fantastic stuff from him. Tremendous from Carson Sousie. A number of Canucks players, strong performances tonight. And a couple of them who met with the media while was the captain, Quinn Hughes, and Dakota Joshua had a big game. They were at the podium. Here is the team captain, and Dakota Joshua, and it starts with Quinn Hughes, who feels like they had a pretty good performance overall as a team tonight. Yeah, it's a big win, obviously, and thought for the most part, we played pretty good hockey, and it's going to be a long series, so we just got to enjoy tonight and put it behind us. This is a group that's been resilient at times throughout the season. Is it just the belief that you guys can stick with it, even at the point where you're down 4-1 and find a way to win the game at 5-5 like you did? Yeah, I just think that we're going to play until the end, no matter if it's 5-1, 6-1, 1-1. That's just the group we have, we're a competitive group. Dakota, even though you guys were down, there was still that composure. I'm guessing there was still that belief. It was a confidence level at this team, regardless of where the score is in the game. Yeah, we're always confident. Like Huggy said, no matter what the score is, we're going to keep playing hard and keep playing the same way, and tonight was an example of it. Just stay with it, and we got our bounces tonight. Even though you were down, Quinn, territorial in the second period, you guys were controlling play, and then you only allowed them 6 shots in the final 2 periods. Did you feel that you're always in that game, and yet you deserve better heading to the third? I don't know if anyone was thinking we deserved better. I think that you're in the moment, and you're just trying to, you know, push each and every shift without getting away from what our game sells and our structure. And I thought we did that, and we're going to have to do it the rest of the series. Dakota, it feels like this is the second time you've had this kind of a game in a big comeback win. Is there something about these games that ignites a fire in you? I mean, in every game, I try to go out there and do my best. Just so happen to be that both of the game won so far in this playoffs that, you know, I caught some bounces, but no, my attitude's the same going into every game, and just coincidence tonight. And Quinn, what about your ability to shut down the McDavid line for the most part tonight? Yeah, I thought that it was a team effort. We had, you know, six defensemen that did a really good job. I thought already made the saves when you had to, and then, you know, 12-4, it's that played hard, and played within our structure, and didn't give them much and help the defense out, and that's just what we're going to try to do. This is for either one of you. When you get tonight, it seems like it's a byproduct of having so many options. What's sort of been that conversation about making sure that you get contributions from everyone so that way, when you have these games, it's not just one line or one pairing. It's everyone that's contributing. I think that's, you know, one of the good qualities of our team is that we know that we have depth, and we know that that's, you know, a strength that we need to use for advantage. So tonight was a great example, again, so many guys involved, and, you know, in a lot of ways. But yeah, we were aware that that, you know, depth is a strength of ours, so it's going to be key for the rest of the series. A lot of talk about not wanting to take a penalty, and then you sort of have three close calls as a team. I don't need to review around the ice, but on that very first shift, including the sort of bench minor, and then nothing the rest of the way. Quinn, just in terms of how your club managed the emotions tonight, how did you feel you did early, and then how did it serve you well in the second half? I thought it served us well just that we stuck with it, and we didn't get, you know, panicked and start pinching and giving them free looks, I thought, you know, throughout the whole game, we kind of stuck to what, you know, we kind of wanted to do, and then waited for opportunities, which we had, and then... Dakota, can you walk us through just the sequence where I think it was in the, sort of, in your helmet? The echom stick got stuck. Yeah, he just went to clear the puck and came up with the stick, and I don't know how to watch it again. I don't know how his stick got caught in there, or where it got caught in there, but fortunate that it didn't do any real damage. I want for each of you on your goal, Dakota, Cole's shot off the endboard. It almost looked like a snooker shot, a perfect bank. Do you guys practice that because it just can't land it right on your stick off an angle? Yeah, the DB are always, you know, staying after every practice with footy to take point shots. You know, some of them, you're looking for the bank, some of them, you're looking for a tip. That one just happened to be a bank, and it came to me nicely, and was able to catch the goalie out of place. Quinn, you had some added attention in the Nashville series, and you took a couple of pretty heavy hits early. Did that help you at all in the sense that, okay, if you're going to target me, I've been through this before. I can adjust. Yeah, I just think every series has its own presence, and obviously the first 10 minutes of the game kind of trying to feel it out and see what's going on. But I think as the series goes on, I'll get more and more comfortable. For either one of you, what was the key to, I don't want to say shutting down, but certainly limiting Connor. You guys had a fairly significant advantage in terms of shot attempts and scoring chances when he was on the ice. We just did a good job as a five-man unit, and everyone knew what they were doing. No one was off-script, and when everyone is on the same page, it makes it easier to defend a special pilot. We launched a lot of film, and we just got to keep doing that. I know that Artie wasn't necessarily happy with the fourth goal, but then he bounced back and made a real key save in the last few seconds. What's it say about him to just kind of stay in that despite maybe not having it go his way early? Yeah, he's been tremendous for us, and yeah, like I said, he made some big saves when it mattered tonight, and he's going to continue to do that. And I think he's kind of got that mindset where nothing phases him or rattles him, and that's been really good for him and really good for us. Dakota, was there a moment in the game or a sequence where you felt it starting to turn for Vancouver? I would say after Lindy's goal to get it back within two, it was right there, your two shots away. But, I mean, like we said earlier, the belief is always there, but yeah, just to know that you've got to keep playing until the end. Anything can happen, and in the third there, once the crowd gets behind us and gives us a little bit more confidence, you could see it spread throughout the team, and they were able to help us grind it out to the end there. And Quinn, obviously by this stage of your career, you've played for a handful of coaches. What is your coach this year? Both of you have talked about belief several times, unsolicited. What role is your coach played in that belief in the dressing room? Yeah, a big part of it, but I think it starts in September, and it really started last year, trying to get us to believe and kind of get the stink that was out of here the previous years before that. So I think it's been not just a message that we're saying before this year. It's been a message for nine or ten months now, and I think we just have confidence in what we need to do, and they do a really good job of giving us a game plan and the details of the game, and we try to execute that, and it gives us a good chance to win. Dakota, talkative has talked a lot about the importance of holding onto pucks, not throwing the puck away. Is your assist on Garland's goal, and Teddy's assist on Zadora's goal as well? Are those examples of exactly what he's looking for? Yeah, those are great examples of it. You've got to have confidence when you get the puck, and you can't throw blind stuff. You've got to hold onto it, and invite them to come take it off of you is a key. And yeah, there was good patience on both those goals, but yeah, that's exactly what he's talking about, and we're going to need more of that as we keep going here. That is Connects Captain Quinn Hughes and Dakota Joshua, a big game from both players, especially Dakota Joshua here tonight, who got on the scores board with the goal, and also to assist the three-point performance reminiscent of his first game against the Nashville Predators, also a three-point performance, both game one victories in round one and round two for your Vancouver Canucks. A lot of reaction on our text-in-box, 650-650, we'll hit more of that coming up in a second, but let's go to the foam boards as well. Let's go to North Van, where we have Stewart on the line. Stewart, thanks for calling in, man, and holding on. What are your thoughts here on a big game one win by your Canucks? Gentlemen, our Canucks, right? The clock is just struck midnight. I've got tomorrow off from work, so I thought, let me stay up, call into the boys. You know, run my mouth as I usually do, and I'm gracious you guys allowed me to do that, but the parallel, I think, tonight between this game and the game one against Nashville, it's so eerily similar, just in terms of being down, and let's be honest. When that first goal went in, a minute in with the two men in the ice, and you thought, "Oh, no. This is not at all how we want it." And then when it's 4-1, let's be real. You're just, me and my buddies, we were down to the dumps. We were thinking that, like, there's no way, right? Because you could tell that they were shook, but then that second goal to make it 4-2 going into the third, you could tell, all right, you know, just a bit. We're not playing terribly. We're just, there's been a few bad bounces. A lot of the goals on both sides tonight for the Canucks' noilers. We're some really wacky, you heard some of the players say it, really weird angle goals, non-traditional hockey goals, but that's what happens in the playoffs. You don't often see very clean goals, albeit from, I guess, you know, the new Russian rocket, Big Z. There's something so satisfying, gentlemen, about seeing just an absolute bullet from the point. It doesn't happen a lot in the modern NHL, you know, it's kind of that '90s, early 2000s play. I can't remember the last time I saw the crowd get on its feet after that goal. That was some brosling the dragon in 2011 stuff, and you could feel that energy, and you could tell from the body language of the fifth goal that God and Skinner, you could tell that Skinner, he needed to have that, and he knew that that was the final straw that broke the camel's back. And I think that two key things, and I'd love to hear you got to take some of those two key things about what happened tonight was that, one, you know, Sealoff's got another win, but he also got to see what it's like when things don't go your way as a goalie in a high pressure situation game. Because I think in the national series, I mean, he was, he was beyond, he was on something to perform the way he did with the shot in game six, but tonight, I think it's good. It's like, you know, kind of getting your feet wet a bit in the sense of you got, you know, four one, but then I think the boys after the second period knew they had to lock it down defensively to help out Sealoff's, because in the second and the third, four shots each period by Edmonton, and that was massive, because to get the win, when we didn't play our best, and I was talking about this with my buddy on the way home in the car, to win a game in the playoffs, when you're not having your A plus game, that is something that good teams do. And this could be a game that we look back on, and who knows, we're five down 11 to go. You guys know the math as well as any of us, and, you know, this is a game that we don't win in the last 20 years. This is a game that we cannot fans, we see other teams win, and we think, geez, you know, why can't that be us? You know, we have good guys, we have this, that. This is a game where we're going to look back on very similar to that legendary post with the empty net with Nashville, and then we come back to tie it up, go to overtime. These are the moments that you get when you're on something, and, you know, call us in the relas, call us underdogs, you know, a team like that, all of that, embrace it, use it, because I'm starting to feel it. And this is something that I'm looking forward to on Friday, because if, knock on wood, if we can go up to, going back to Alberta, that would be unbelievable, because even before this game, I'll wrap up quickly, I know you guys can move on. I'll have a quick, even before this game, we were the underdogs, but now the pressure on Edmonton is monumental, because, let's be honest, if we can somehow get past into the third round, I mean, at that point, I just pray Dallas and Colorado beat the living unit, why is each other if we get that far? But, you guys, thank you for what you do. Again, talking to all the BC down back into the realm of sanity, is Canucks fans, so I'll hang up, and I'll see you guys. All right, you guys have an awesome night, slash morning. Hey, thanks for the phone call, that is Stuart in North End, a lot there, but on the part that he mentioned, she loves. I thought that was a really good point, because this is the first time where real struggles emerge, right? Even when they were trailing in Nashville, he was playing, wasn't really on him, and he played well through that whole series. This one was the toughest one he's had to face, and suddenly, how do you problem solve? And one of the reasons I've backed him is, mentally, he just seems so ahead of where he is, for his age. And it's going to be interesting to watch the K, these next 48 hours, how does he prepare for game two? If he's a starter, it would very much be expected. He is the starter, but how does he come out in game two? Now you've seen what it looks like, what the environment looks like, what the oilers can do in the power play. You've got the chance to process it all. How do you come back for game two? And if he plays like he did tonight in game two, suddenly game three kind of open that door and say, maybe it is the Smith, even in a win. But if he bounces back and has a strong one, which, hey, every indication this kid's got some goods, man, that's a huge boost. How you bounce back from challenges is the mark of good goal tenors. He hasn't gone through it yet, and we'll see how he bounces back in game two. A lot of thoughts here on the text inbox six fifty six fifty before we close this one out. And yes, like Stuart mentioned, it's all of BC and also Canucks fans across the world that listened to the post game show on strong and bank. Victoria says, God, remember the Canucks represent all of BC, not just a city of Vancouver. That's true, but also a lot of Canucks fans across the province and across the world. We had this text I wanted to read from Eric in Dawson Creek. He says, let me see if I can bring it up. He says, this team is really starting to gain momentum. Never seems like they're out of any games. Always thought this was the first game, was the most important when they were down for one. I was so dejected, but I still felt the Canucks had a chance to come back. What a comeback that was and mentions he's at a campsite in Northern BC. And tonight was a first night open, no campers yet. And thank God, because I was yelling and screaming the whole time. Probably scared all the bears and moose away. Let's go Canucks. God, I love when the Canucks are in the playoffs. That's Eric in Dawson Creek. The moose scene in Dawson Bay. It's pretty wild. It's got to be wild. Anything else you want to get out here before we get out for the evening? No, I'm exhausted. Yeah. Sorry, I've exhausted the topic. We have. We talked about pretty much everything here tonight. I'm on top. I don't know how I'm going to sleep tonight. Yeah, I don't know either. All right, fantastic stuff here on the post game show. Unfortunately, no IMMAC will have IMMAC with the next game, hopefully. But thank you all for listening. Appreciate every single one of you across the province, across the world. Enjoy this Canucks victory and hopefully a lot more good to come in this series against the Edmonton Oilers. A special shout out. We can't do this without all the hard work behind the scenes. Alina here at the terrific work, but also back at the station. Fast Eddie Gregory and Ben Bastren working their butts off all evening. Thank you for all you guys do. And thank you all for listening, participating, being part of the show. It's always a pleasure. Can't wait to be back at it again tomorrow on Canucks Central Bix added on the People Show. And this has been the Canucks Central Post game show presented by the number five orange on the home of your Canucks Sportsnet 650.
