Welcome to the InsideText football YouTube channel powered by InsideTexas.com. Got Eric Nelline, Drew Kelson, and Justin Wells here today for another edition of Wednesday Night Live. Make sure you head to InsideTexas, use the promo code IT1 to get two months of InsideTexas for just one dollar. Today's May 8th, that means come July 8th, we'll probably be talking about some commitments at that point and some details about a ton of recruitment. So come check us out, like this video, subscribe to the channel, and guys looks like everybody's back home after a few different trips on the road for different reasons. Eric, you got to see some of North Houston today. Justin, you went to the northeast corner of Texas, and this is just that time of year, Justin, where it's time to hit developer Kurtz, see how they're doing on the field and see what coaches are going to see them as well. That's exactly what time it is, it's the spring evaluation period. So for guys like Eric and I and Coach Williams, we got to be on the road because the coaches are on the road, they're going through and they're not just checking in on 2025s, they're checking in on all those 2026 offers, maybe some new guys and they're seeing those 2027s for the first time. You know, Texas went through Texas High last week and saw Quay Ford, and that's that 2027 left tackle out of Texas or Canada, 66, 285. I've been told he's a 40 offer guy so yeah, it's, you get to see some new guys get to see some of the old ones and get to talk a lot of bull with coaches along the way. I think I bumped into six or seven coaches, just myself, already today. Eric, you got to see some of North Houston, same thing seeing some guys and getting some new info specifically on the cane he tied in Nick Townsend. Yeah, Nick is well one of my two or three favorite recruits in the state Lance Jackson being another one. Man, I just love the way that kid plays today I got to watch him practice although the way he practices, he was playing both sides of the ball and not just edge like he played last year he was playing off ball. He looks better as an off ball linebacker than some players that Texas signed in the 2010s, even though tied in this his position just to freak. Speaking of coaches that were there Simmons was there from USC the wide receiver coach is checking in on to no kinds also have to can either USC's tight ends coach was there. The most interesting thing with Nick was that he said Texas is really picked up the the level of communication recently after it had dropped off for a while and that was that was music to my ears you know I almost didn't make the trip because Texas hadn't been on those two as much. I'm really glad I went by first of all he's a fun player to watch it's a spirited group to watch workout. But it was it was rewarded by him saying yeah I'm still taking my official visit I'm still talking I'm talking to Texas a little bit more than I had been Jeff Banks I think he's supposed to go by pretty soon. And then I went to a legacy school spring of sports sports school of sports sciences. Do you want to do you want to come back to that one after because we can we can you got to talk to Nick Townsend we got that video coming up right here. All right here at the painting high school after watching Nick Townsend play two ways off ball linebacker not edge like he played last year also tied in. Nick talk about playing two way this year. I'm excited to see what I have to offer and I'm an athlete. I'm ready to go on the field. I was like playing football like I had people in the mouth. Yeah to highlight that athleticism I was talking to Sterling Finney a while back and he knows all the top water sheavers have come out of St. Louis Ryan Wingo. James to Williams she said pound for pound Nick Townsend is a good athlete as any of those guys I've had. I totally agree with what about it talk about that hundred you broke you broke 11 seconds right or 10 seconds. Ten nine two ten nine two all right. Too bad that's insane. All right hey catch me up on a recruiting went to Arizona State I believe for official visit how that goes. It's pretty cool it's different it's just a different environment I like to to my environment. It was pretty cool seeing the most stuff I've never seen before. They say it's a dry heat out there and it's better than this I don't know man. It's way better than this. All right line it up what official visit do you have coming down the road. USC Alabama first week of June and it's Texas last week. All right tell me what you think about what you what do you like about USC. It's LA what I was like it's LA coach. Yeah the weather is definitely better than in here in Arizona State. All right Alabama you went out there in the spring a lot of people said you really like to visit what's standing out about the tide right now. This is the coaches down the earth like they was really involved with practice and stuff like that. They weren't they weren't just watching. They was going out there if you know what it's done something they going out there. It's only y'all to run around and let them. Oh that's pretty like I like to be in a temporary farm. Gotcha gotcha and what about the Aggies they're always stiff competition for the horns in Penn State. They got a new coaching staff. What do you think about the new staff. It's a pretty cool stuff saying the same thing with them I went to the spring ball game. Why are they very involved coaching hard. I want to be in the same environment I'm in now like hard coaching everything. Gotcha yeah I remember I talked to you in January when you were at the UT game you said you're looking for hard coaching by the junior day I should say. What uh let's talk about the horns how often are you talking to coach Banks. Pretty often. I'm working a little in the bond you know better coach Banks and can't wait to make it off to the OB. Gotcha if you had to say that there are two or three schools recruiting you the hardest who would you say. Uh well four four with my heart on it. What you got. There's uh LSU Alabama Texas A&M in Texas. Gotcha LSU any plans to visit uh visit them. Uh my June booked all up so I'm trying to figure out a way to get them in there. Gotcha okay and what about a decision you summer guy or what are you thinking. Oh yeah I'm trying to have my decision made by the team. Gotcha man I appreciate it. Eric he said Texas is more recruiting him hardest and that's a little bit of an update compared to what we you went like you said what you went into the cany thinking. Yeah we didn't they they dropped off for whatever reason for a while there I don't know I don't know exactly what it was focused on. I'm strong or maybe Caleb Edwards or both of them I don't know uh but he's I mean that guy yeah I think he's better than Jutavian Sanders because he's faster. That guy you know he said yeah he said he was uh you know coming off the field of like man I'm tired I can't run. I was like Washington he's a bullet down the field at 235 pounds they had just worked out right before that workout. So he was complaining it wasn't running right. He looks impressive and you could tell he's physical you know he likes that he likes to play football and he likes to be coach hard so I love that kid. I mean I think he's a borderline fire star. Hey four star borderline five star talent five star handshake. There is a stronger handshake in the class of 2025. Yeah he he rolled me on the man I will it was bad I had to tell him pick on somebody's own size. I know. That's a game. You also went to I'm going to get it for you legacy the school of sport sciences. I think. Can you imagine getting that gear made. Michael. Michael Bishop is the head coach there offensive lineman from Texas Trey Hawkins is the old line coach there he looks really good. It's amazing to see how good the athletes these old linemen are once they strip off the the extra football weight he's got traps I think I saw an ab. He looks really good. That's good to see Keisha on Henderson I just missed Kendall browse actually I saw Kendall at the convenience store as I stopped in right before I go into school LSU was there this morning unless you offer today. You know I don't you know I wanted to go buy some spin it he can definitely do that. I just don't know what's going to you know if Texas is going to get all in on that. He's going to go to Ohio State and Michigan and Penn State the first week of June. He doesn't really seem like he's going to camp so Texas is supposed to come by and see him. But nothing's really seems to be shaking their water receiver Michael Brown there is dad was Reggie Brown play for the Aggies famously got hurt playing for the Alliance he's he's doing great he's moving around really well. But yeah so Reggie's from Austin and even though he played it and Michael really really wants that you to offer Michael's going to camp he's a 2026 is going to camp. June six so we'll be watching to see if you can pick up that offer he's got like 25 offers already. Before we get to some adjustments recruiting info again he went up to northeast Texas make sure you like the this video subscribe to the channel help us get to 8000 and head to inside Texas. Tom drew I had a question for you though when you were back at Lamar when I got to see your old your old high school coach just the other day. When coaches came in to see you or coach Nolan when coaches came in what were some of your experiences or maybe like a memory that stands out from when they came through Lamar high school. It's funny because you can tell when coaches come out that they're trying to size you up. I remember I mean at that age you start getting recruited and people coming by the school at 15 16 years old. And people I mean the last I how tall are you 62. And so it's so funny I've never been 62 but somehow I became 62 and there are even some places that had me at 63. Now one thing that's always been consistent is I mean once I reach my sophomore year I weigh 200 plus and I still haven't been able to get under 200 but. So that's kind of one of the things is they come out there to size you up, you'll see them in the hallways you'll see them in the coaches office before practice you see them walking by. And I don't know if it's the same way but it was a big deal. You saw a coach show up with his emblem on his shirt he wears a hat he has like when he's coming to take notes. It's a big deal when you see a coach on campus is really cool because it takes the recruiting process. And we had letters and everything else that people are getting but it makes it real in person so you know someone who's been writing you letters at that time actually shows up to campus to see you in person. It makes it real so that that experience is it's unique and one thing that just stands out to me that I want to point out in that video with this kid and hopefully people pay attention to to all these kids. Everyone's talking about NIO right now and rightfully so but regardless of money regardless of NIO this kid would have the talent to go to Texas Bama and in any of the best schools in the country. And the things that he's evaluating the things that he's looking into to determine where he wants to go. It's just NIO you know it goes beyond that you know he wants to see places he can connect he can get education like as you're listening to these kids. It sounds like a lot of talk, but it really is real these kids want to go somewhere where they can feel they can develop and grow for four years and that's all of their intent when they go into this. Sometimes with all the NIO and portal talk, no one goes somewhere with a plan to actually not finish there and not succeed so I'm excited just about this season because this is the time we actually get to get closer to these kids with interviews and just all the time that that's going I think it's an interesting point you went to Lamar, obviously a five a school really successful program had a lot of guys go to not just Texas obviously, but a lot of different colleges and you went to a very successful program and yet having those coaches come in still meant something that resonates because think about and Justin this where I'll toss it to you yeah I know Texas highs put out some quite a few quality guys but you know it's a smaller program pleasant grove is what for a like these aren't huge communities and so the fact that even at a five a school now six a four a school now three a or three a now for a it means something that coaches come through and it's celebrated and so with that speaking of Texas high you stop by there on your way around a Tex or Canada. You got to talk to a truderian ball you've got a video interview but what are some of the before we get to that would be some of the things that stood out from seeing Texas high and seeing a couple of the prospects there that are going to be on our radar for years to come. Yeah you know they I talked to coach Stanford and that guy is just unbelievably helpful when it comes to the work we do and I'm so grateful to him and his staff and how much those guys help out. And they've always got kids and they're coming up like that 2026 group is stacked in 2027 is ridiculous like he's got a good thing going and he's had over 20 colleges come through in like the last four days. Today was USC and Missouri and Arkansas and Oklahoma State and Sam Houston State. And I think I missed one other guy when he had came in there, but yeah he's been busy with coaches just trying to connect with all these college coaches that are coming through. They love truderian ball you know he's got 30 plus offers he's at 511 and a half about 195. He ran a PR this year and the 100 was at 1048 and his size, him moving like that I think on three and that has him or the industry ranking has him as the number four running back in the country. He's a top 50 overall prospect. They're all coming to see truderian and they're seeing him and they're shaking his hand and they're you know they're sizing him up that's how these coaches do it. They turn and they look to his left tackle who's a true freshman, who's already 65 and a half six six about 285 and quite forward. He's already got double digit offers, not a whole lot in state, but that's about to change. Because he's got Oregon and Arkansas and Tennessee and some other ones. And he got to meet Texas last week when coach choice came in and he's looking at that June first elite camp, truderian ball is going to be there and. I actually be his ride, because him and Ford are pretty good buddies. And so that they talk about that a lot, but they also that they have another guy, a kid named Duncan McGee, a 2026 defensive tackle that was face timing with PK last week. And we know that they're always looking at the D line and McGee is a kid that's growing. He is, he is an anchor like tight kid at six about 62 and a half six, three, three bills. And so, just a great program man, you know, Texas can is big, Texas can is big. There's three pretty big high schools in that in there, not to mention that the private schools and, and you know Texas does a great job. It right now and this time of the year is just juggling all these coaches, because you want to give them all attention and you want to talk to them and listen to them. And then sometimes when eight or nine converge at one time, it's coach even told me it's a little overwhelming because you're trying to make everybody happy. You're trying to get all your kids exposure and get all the phone numbers and cards handed out and everybody connecting. But that's the coolest part about it is that he's got a program where kids are attracted to and coaches are as well. So, a tridentians in a great spot. He'll be back in Texas June 1 choice in him are they they are so close. They're James Simon and to charge twice close, like in balls been there for a while that they offered him over a year ago and so seeing him and seeing those guys was a big deal. I wasn't able to see Lance Jackson but I was able to catch up with him he wasn't there today. He's fully he'll go you want to go ahead and shoot off the ball interview. Before you go to Texas to Pleasant Grove let's go to Texas high real quick we'll play this two minute clip and you can hear from a truderian himself. Here with Mr. Truderian ball top 50 recruit in the class of 2026 according to the on three rankings here at Texas high Mr ball. My man you've got 30 plus offers you're really kind of ascended into into that upper echelon of elite prospects. How has the process been like for you at this stage and and what are you looking at as your next step. Really the thing that got me here really just keep my head down pushing not being really at the fam and the eating they get in the way getting my head getting my way. Yeah and that happens a lot of times you know that popularity comes and all that attention and you got to be a you got to be strict with your time. Here are some of the schools that you're connecting with I mean like I said you got a lot of offers but who are a handful that stand out right now. Well you asked me I say USC Missouri's got a good hold on me Miami I know they just offered me last week but I've been down a lot and they really cool and there's a lot of my interest Texas always been in my interest and you know that. Really just some top programs I know Florida State, Penn State, Tennessee just some good schools I'll talk to Ohio State a lot. That's good that's good and that's what you need to do you know keep keep going out there and seeing all those people Coach Choice came through here last week. What was his message for you man really just tell me keep my head down and keep working. He tells me he wants me every day. That means a lot to me for a coach to come to my face and person to tell me that and I really just think a lot. What does it seem what does it tell you when a running back coach has five running backs drafted in the last two NFL drafts recruited and developed by Tashar Choice. Man real I just say you got the magic taste man just just being able to put those guys out there on the field and time it doesn't mean to feel on prospects. Real quick any trips coming up in June or July you got any spots you're going to be hitting the summer. I know I should be going to take the lead camp I'll be heading down to I think Tulane I know LSU is going to be at the camp so I'll be heading down there for now. I think I know I'm going to Ohio State probably USC too so that's a couple of you. Tell the fans real quick what was that PR on that 100 meters in track this year. 1048 1048. Lots of good stuff there and you know lots of good 100 times y'all were able to check out today. Just before we start getting to some questions real quick on what you saw from Lance Jackson. Sounds like his health has improved a lot. Yeah he's he's he's he's back to 100% in the locker room 100% in the weight room. He's he's getting after it. You know what's funny you know he wasn't going to play baseball this year. He was going to focus everything on football and for fans that don't know this is a kid that throws 93 to 95 off the mound and he has since he was a freshman. But he made a decision to come back to baseball had a freak injury at an under armor camp that Eric and I were actually at when it happened. And so they had to pull him out of baseball again and I think he's sad because he'll never play it again. He's an early enrollee and so he is full focused on this senior senior season getting you know getting the most out of his ability but really making a run with PG. They're used to making runs at state and that's what he's used to seeing what he grew up watching with his older brother Landon. And so he I'll tell you what he's ready for he's ready for that on three elite series in Nashville. He is really excited about what what what's going on there and I got admit I'm I'm as eager as well and so Lance is in a great position he's not going to take any other visits there's only one school. It's Texas. He is the easiest kid to cover in this class because once he committed he's literally done and you got to like that. Makes a lot of sense ready to get you some questions I like this one from our good buddy Brett Nelson prediction which offensive lineman sign with Texas. This is an interesting one just because I have irons in the fire and a bunch of different states Justin I'm putting you on the spot on this tough one. What do you think this offensive line class looks like. I think it starts with Michael for Susie. I think you throw the Coleman brothers from Cedar Hill in the middle and Jackson Christian, maybe on the backside and save one spot for an out of state guy that we may not be paying attention to as much attention to now. As we would say you know fast forward three or four months. I call that the Brandon Baker proviso. I put I had four of those guys and I throw John Mills in there as the fifth. Oh man what am I thinking. Yeah. Jackson Christian almost feel like they might cancel each other like they would take one or the other we don't know for sure but that was just my feeling on those two. I think it'll take all five we'll see I feel I mean they're definitely the favorite to get Mills at this point if they stay on that call Christian you I'm curious about you know Aggies if they can try to get back you know make up a little bit of ground they might have lost in the late spring but yeah that's those are the five I've got sounds like we're on the same page. I think Aggies took Connor Cardi I think that take was was Jackson Christian spot you know at least early on so it's going to be interesting to see what happens there I'm a big fan of Jackson as well. I'm a fan Mills I forgot about Mills I think that's a kid that winds up getting drafted. I will we'll move on to a more team related question. Who do you think starts in the secondary and week one I think Eric you've laid this topic out pretty well I think the consensus at this point is you know probably for. If Malik Mohammed Derek Williams Michael Tath and Jadae Baron somewhere it's just that fifth one it's like it's Jadae Baron a corner and that means Jalen Gilbo's playing stars. Or is Baron at star and you've got JV on cold playing corner that seems like the only main options. Yeah I think the starter is good. JV and Paul yeah McCuba can't I don't know I think they're going to work McCuba at safety and star. Is McCuba going to jump TAF maybe is anybody going to jump Williams I don't know I kind of think that Williams and TAF are going to get it. But McCuba is going to play starter snaps and probably play both position star and safety that it won't really matter JV and Holmes and Cole are the main question for me. I think that JV and Cole and Gavin Holmes are the main question. I tend to think Cole's going to win that but I don't know for sure Gavin Holmes had a good spring you know we'll see let it let August decide it will be all over that though it's going to be going to play 10 dudes you know it's a it's a deep secondary. Drew I don't know if we've gotten your your insight on what you like about JV on Cole yet I know we've covered that but I'm curious what you think about that edition especially after they lost Terence Brooks. I mean when I look at corners. I'm I'm always looking at do they have control of their man are they poised are they in position to make the play necessary. And that's all you can look for when you're looking at film the speed is there we know, but speed is the only factor there has to be instincts that has to be awareness that has to be smarts. But at least on film and shown he has that. So the real question is how does he adjust this summer. How does he adjust. And not to say when he comes here this summer. I mean that that won't be an adjustment but their guys who control in the summer and by the time August comes around. They've adjusted the spring. I mean they've adjusted to the speed they've adjusted the competition they've adjusted to just what they need to work on And I think with him transferring here chip on the shoulder he has the floor and the skill set to do what I think we will need in the defense. But what we don't know is what his upside and ceiling is we won't know that until August rolls around. So I'm excited about him because he just we need the depth we need the competition and a new guy just makes everybody else level up. There's a lot of time between we got June July till we go to August so we got to compete in the soft season get better get stronger get faster compete learn the defense they have time with their coaches. Anything can change between now and August and a fresh body coming in at this point is coming fast and ready to compete. I'm excited about what he's going to bring to the table. Fifteen hundred people watching this thank you so much for watching we will keep moving right along with some questions. This is a good one from Peyton Ross maybe more of a comment but I think it speaks to what makes defensive tackle recruiting very difficult. Everyone talking about defensive tackle being an issue, but if two of probably this year's group of Alfred Collins Vernon brought in Tia survey Bill Norton or Jeray blood so get drafted. That'd be six defensive tackles drafted in three years Justin that's a good thing to pitch when you're you're talking to him but these are the types of players at the position that is basically wanted by everybody. We saw it in this most recent portal market that defensive tackles of a certain quality or rare that similar similar applies to high school to where yeah this is the type of thing that doesn't win you recruitment per se but this is the type of thing that you just get in the door of some of those big time big human recruitment. You said it you know the NFL draft is the is the X is the force multiplier but yeah just to just to get in the conversation. And you know with the line you know we talked about this on these live streams and our videos the supply was not going to meet the demand on defensive to defensive tackle, especially with the push by some of these smaller schools that retaining guys are not just smaller rather but just any programs retaining guys has been a big deal and things they have to work on the one thing I noticed about that list of names is that Bo Davis only recruited one of those players. And what's funny is you know Bledso was was pretty much an easy evaluation I feel like he's always been physical he's always been athletic and he always had the body to put put muscle and mass on functional mass at that. Hey, wide receiver recruiting is picking up big in the draft running back recruiting is staying pretty steady big in the draft. Wait till they have a couple O linemen get drafted next year that'll be a little boost wait till they have a couple DVs drafted in two years that'll get you a boost. And so at each position it matters but D line and you're going into the SEC and I feel like SARC has a really good read on going into that conference. And there's that's why we see urgency with from the staff trying to make sure that D line is ready when August camp roles around. It may even get a quarterback drafted to if you have a couple years when yours is probably going to be the first quarterback selected I know I don't know if he's going to be the first but I know who isn't going to be the first. And he just put out a rap song the other day. Oh man, we don't need to go into that that's a that's the no no it's not good listen if it was a good song if it was like keelin Robinson. Hey, we're talking Grammys we're talking double platinum k Rob can rap. I remember these to stick to his whatever other job. The best keelin Robinson tweet I ever saw was he had a post that said hashtag rap or make it to the league hashtag or both. Hey, he did it both did it that's that's the awesome part and that's. He has music on my favorite players. He has. I have some of his music on my phone. He is not bad keelin Robinson can flow, not just on the field. That's good stuff Justin I'm going to keep it keep the attention on you. You had a note on this on inside Texas. And as it pertains to the question, maybe not but your information has long horns probably looking better than anybody in this one. Yeah, Victor Santiago appreciate the question also thank you giving me some love for my Mavericks. We got throttle last night. I feel like Oklahoma City is just a better team. So it's going to be tough for Texas to overcome that that young athletic group Victor I appreciate that that's really that's what matters. Now Jamie French man this thing this thing is just taking off right now. It was building in March. It got even bigger in April when he got on campus. Now we're to a point where Chris Jackson's been down there. He spent a lot of time with the family and the staff. Jamie French is flat out said it's Texas Tennessee and LSU or Texas LSU in Miami right now in that order. We've had a couple other sources confirm Texas is a leader. I think you're going to see a decision in the summertime he originally had talked about potentially taking it into the season. Now he's looking more at a July August. I think we're going to see a lot of guys Erica Erica tell you the same thing you know July and August is going to be slammed. Because these guys are going to get their spots these coaches are telling them look the portal changes. Recruitments and offers their void at some point not for Jamie French of course but for a lot of these guys. And so Texas and French are doing a really good job. I think French is Jackson's wingo of this cycle. The one guy out of state that he just really goes 100 on just really puts all his time and effort into and building that relationship. Be sure and come to inside of Texas.com in the next few days. We've got a notebook that we're going to post basically breaking down his evaluations his strengths and his weaknesses. And where Texas stands in that recruitment. I love French to it right now and if I get another text message asking me when I'm going to put in RPM. I'm going to lose it. Get ready to lose it. I like this one from a gray man. Great question. Feels like Sark is aiming towards winning like LSU did that one year with burrow. I'm not feeling him cranking up the heat on front seven defense recruiting. Drew I'll throw this your way and if you remember that 2019 team like there was some special defensive talent. It was overshadowed by maybe the best offense in college football history, but there were some first rounders. I mean Derek stingley was on that defense. Patrick Queen, I believe are Ray Thornton played a lot of. A lot of space on a live on chase on like that was an extremely talented defense. Kind of curious what you think about gray man's comments. I was in the stadium when LSU came to Austin. And I'll tell you what Sam Ellinger. I didn't know that defense was that talented when we played them. But that goes to show you we have a really good team with an offense like that. Points can still be put up. Those things can happen, but that talent still went to the league and all those guys are really solid. I do think this is just one of those years where we're going to have to lean on the offense. We expect to lean on the offense. I was just thinking I was just talking to a couple of friends last week about this. We know what we are an offense. We know what we should be on offense at Texas. I'd like to see our defense PK, the D line established an identity and a pipeline that we can be proud of. I think we have the guys who are capable of making it to the NFL. They have a talent and they're going to play on a talented team which should get them the exposure necessary. But I do think while the last two years I think we've been solid on defense. And in this most recent year, we've given all the credit to Byron Murphy and to Andre Sweatt on the D line and they anchored that. But we were just we were really good the year before. So I do think this will be a year, especially stepping into the SEC. Having all this talk about our defensive line and uncertainty and how things are going to be played. This is going to be a year where I think we'll have an opportunity to ramp up our branding, if you will, from a defensive standpoint, but also our production. And I think for offense leads us as we expect them to our defense will have time to come along and really get cranking and maybe about the end of the season. Similar to the LSU team, we'll see some guys in position to get drafted and drafted pretty high. Drew, do you remember Sam Ellinger's stat line from that LSU team? The best stat line he had at Texas. Over 500 total yards, five touchdowns, zero turnovers against one of the best defensive we've seen in a while. That was one of Sam's shining moments for sure. There are not very many 400 yard passing games in UT history. I think that was one of them. I think there's only four Casey Thompson has one, Sam has one, Colt has one, and I think Major has the fourth. So not a whole lot there. Plus, in regards to this comment, we've seen from Steve Sarkeesian that he values defense enough not just to be a, all right, 50 points will get us there. It's not like Lincoln Riley where he just kind of says, all right, out score, he wants to win with balance. That's where the Nick Saban vacation paid off. Yeah, I love your offensive mind, but look what I've got over here on this side of the field. Oh, one thing that has cranked up that we'll see this year and it's our edge position. As much as you were talking about D line recruiting, we've been recruiting, both in the portal and out of high school. With everything we've lost, we're not talking about the edge position enough because we haven't seen it be impactful under PK in this defense in a way that that stands out. So this year is that year. This year we're going to see this defense show up in a way we probably haven't seen them show up. Does that mean we're going to be a top 30 defense in the country that not necessarily. But what it does mean is, as I really think we're going to see production out of our edges that will show that we have spent some time recruiting and will continue to build on that. Because as great as our DTS are, we see how limited we are without without edge pressure. And so at least early on this year, I think that's probably what it'll show up for us early, while everything else develops. But I think the recruiting. If we've learned anything of last three years, I think Sark knows exactly how he wants to build this pipeline and keep it full moving forward. And you can tell by the way we've stacked up in our edge position and where we're going. PK is an edge coach by nature, so it makes sense that his focus is starting to show some progress. Here's a good one. Another one from Victor Santiago. Any update on that organ defensive lineman still in the portal. Johnny Bowen's product of Converse Judson. Steve Viltfong over at on three mentioned the other day that Texas is potentially eyeing him. And Eric, I think that kind of says a lot about Bowen's as a as a player and what they think about him compared to the rest of that defensive line. Yeah, I saw that question and shot of text out just to see if I can get an update within this video window. You know, he's very talented kid. There was questions about his motor coming out of high school. I think that's why Texas didn't pursue all that hard. I think a lot of people thought he was going to end up at A&M and ended up going to Oregon. Found a guy, real bouncy. I mean, you kind of like kind of like a full grown Malcolm Roach by the time Malcolm Roach left Texas. That kind of what it reminds me of. Maybe Bowen's a little bigger. A athletic guy. They need somebody like the fact that he has four years left. You know, that's, you know, it would almost be a like for like for losing Deontre Robinson. Not exactly the same player, but you would make up that eligibility loss that they lost with the Deontre leaving. Is he worth a flyer? That's after them to decide after the homework that they do on him. I would be inclined to take him if everything checked out just because, you know, the need is there. They've got to make up for lost time with the last couple classes, not having enough bodies in them. So if he checks out, I'm sure they'll pursue. And then if they really want them, they'll probably get them. But that's just an extradarion again. It just kind of depends on how bad they want them. What's your tagline, buy in or buy by? Buy in or buy by? I think that's what Sartre should probably adopt that. That's kind of the motto that they have. I mean, it's not their motto. That's just kind of how they operate from my observation. Well, just want to say thank you, Tardarian. Justin, I know you caught up with him and he's seen your face a bunch today. But appreciate Tardarian joining the continuing to be the recruit who shows up here most often. Justin got another question. What does Sartre mean to do to make UT was not so miserable on the board? Pick up his bar tab every once in a while. I've done that. That's not funny. At least he picks up his own neighbor job because he lives way north. Man. Hey, I love UT was we all do. And he loves measured in different forms. He had to uber from a couple of our happy hours in a row. And then like the next time we said, all right, do another happy hour. He said, I'm uber excited for this one. So that way still sticks out to me. You know, I think he's got, I like, I like him because he definitely brings a different angle. He's, he's not funny level, but he, but he, he, he's attention to all of it enough. To where he has a pretty good idea on some of this stuff. He just goes to the extreme. Yeah. He reached between the lines pretty well, but not as good as he thinks. Not as good as he thinks. You get it. He'll, he'll, he'll, he might make a piece of toast. That's enough airtime for him. Oh, man. Good one from Chris Bennett. Kind of going back to the starting a secondary conversation. What does a starting defensive line look like? I think we, we have a pretty good sense of this one. And I think how good can it be? It, like Drew said, it goes back to edge play, but maybe one question about this one is, do they pair callings and brought them together? Or maybe do they put them on a different platoon like you saw during the Red River shootout last year? Cause those two together, you have some deficiencies, especially when it comes to anchoring against the run, I feel like. Drew, what are your thoughts on the, the top plot, the top line defensive line? You know, it's funny because there's different ways to evaluate the defensive line. And I know from a, from a fan perspective, when we're going to evaluate it, comparing to this past year with Byron Murphy and Savandri Sweat. We're going to evaluate it expecting, not expecting to see the same thing, but we're going to expect to see how does it compare from a run game from a run game perspective. But I'm more concerned about, or just more interested in seeing how we deploy this different, this group differently than the others. Other times in the spring game, I saw it slanting the details and the linebackers didn't fill in appropriately. Now, Mind you, these weren't starting linebackers and these weren't guys who had a ton of reps. But if we're going to be slanting our guys more instead of playing them straight up, you know, how impactful they are will be influenced by how the linebacker play is off of that. So my assumption is we're going to do things differently with the D line. And anything we do differently is going to impact things around it. So I think at the end of the day, we have the bodies, we have the talent, we have a disruptive group of guys who I know can be disruptive. But I think it still will come down to how they're deployed, how the rotations look and how those things shift based on everyone's strengths and weaknesses. However, I just don't think there's any excuse for a dramatic drop off from, if not from last year from two years ago, when our defensive still really solid, solid enough, especially with his offense, we have to go win some games this year. So, we'll see. I really think we have the guys we need. You really can expect to have a better defensive line to go into this and go to go into the season with that we have, you know, after Byron Murphy and to Badrey sweat leaving. So here we are. Let's just run with it. And I think we're going to find a way, no matter what. I think a lot of it is very relative to, you know, like you had the best defensive line in the country, if not, you know, top three, any step back is going to be jarring, but a step back doesn't mean it's going to be just Swiss cheese. I think what you put together and said, yeah, 2022 and still for NFL players rotated at defensive tackle there. So I think there'll be just a regression just because you're losing an all American and another all in a first round pick. But that doesn't mean it's going to be bad. And I think that's the point that you make very well. Got another good one from Albert Garcia, Michigan D line versus Texas O line. And that all the Titans banks and Campbell versus Graham and Grant can't wait until September 7. You know, I think one of the guys we, we haven't talked about a ton, but who I think we've also heard has had a good off season or spring was DJ Campbell, you know, someone who has basically held on to his spot and not let go. And not only that has started to do really well so I'm excited to see this. But Eric, as far as Graham and grant go, it seems like they may be able to attack. People like Hayden Connor, I have faith in Jake majors, but this is going to be probably the biggest test and then match up that decides the game up in Ann Arbor, aside from what the Wolverines do at quarterback. Yeah, I think Campbell matches up physically well with those guys. He's a physical presence. He's got a very thick body strong in the lower body, probably stronger might be the strongest guy on the team. So I'm not too worried about that. And then on the other side, you know, of course you worry about Hayden Connor being mismatched but you know I leave it to flood to scheme and remember everybody thought Alabama 2022 is going to rag all that offensive line. They're going to start to do it all kinds of different tricks. I think they'll have some tricks up their sleeve for these guys so they're not just going to let Hayden Connor go one on one with one of those guys so I'm not too worried about it's, but it'll come down to scheme and they'll need some scheme help. You know what else could be interesting is when they when Quinn yours is at quarterback and he looks one side as Will Johnson and the other is Terrence Brooks. I wonder if he's going to look at Ryan and go, pump and go. Oh, I don't need to dig dirt on him. I was about to say something. No, no, no, we're not digging dirt. I think that this matchup is going to get even bigger. Terrence Brooks and Michigan have been talking. It's a fun, fun thing to bring up, but you know, they need to starter over there. It's Will Johnson and nobody like ghosts. So they are really, really, they're looking to rebuild on that other side of the of the secondary. I'm I'm curious about that quarterback situation like early is the quarterback week two. You're going to see me put down a bet. I've never done it. I don't gamble, but I might. If Alex works, he's the quarterback, I might be throwing down some cash. It'll be, that'll be quite an interesting one. All right, we got to finish on a good one from the inside Texas message board. Again, that'll get you all the way through July 8 at this point. And that'll get you to probably some decisions from a lot of these recruits who are visiting. So our buddy Bowman 93 has a has a situation Georgia has the ball on the plus 40. They're down six points and it's third and 13 and late in the fourth quarter. Who do you have on the field to try to nuke the drive and how are they deployed. So Justin, I'm going to put you on the spot early. I think I have a good idea of what I would do. And a lot of it stems from what our buddy Ian Boyd has written about that Johnny Nansen that likes to produce. Trey Moore better be on the field. Trey Moore better be on the field. And he better, he better be bringing hell with him, because it's going to be needed his Carson Beck's going to be dotting up people. And so yeah, that I'll start with the edge. Trey Moore is going to be on the field third 13. I'll let you other let you guys take the rest. So Ian's talked a lot about a $3.17 dollar packet. I like the idea of Trey Moore on one side. Whoever the next best pass rusher is whether that's Ethan Burke calling Simmons, one of those guys, Bill Norton in the middle. Yeah, Anthony Hill playing all you got bill. Why would you have Bill Norton out there. They're not going to run it. You'd have Jerry Bletsoe out there or something. So, or I'll take on three blocks after Collins, Jerry Bletsoe, Trey Moore, Ethan Burke. There you go. You're rushing for. So you can drop. You can drop more if you want. I mean, that kind of defeats the purpose of having them as a pass rusher, but he can drop if you really want to. They're going to know that we're bringing four and I need enough guys on the inside occupied by our athletic DTS so the guys on the edge can get just free one on ones and go do their thing while the DVs handled the back. What about delayed blitz from from Anthony Hill. I don't like delayed blitzes anymore. If we're going to blitz on third and 13, we just need to come with it and not give them time. I delay blitz. Let's just go. I've always been curious about, you know, people talk about exotic blitzes. I wonder what non exotic blitzes look like, but that would be another topic for another day.
