"A.P. News, I'm A.P.'s Roni. Senator Bob Menendez has arrived at a federal courthouse for the start of a bribery trial which aided three New Jersey businessmen. In an A.P. interview, former federal prosecutor Niyama Ramani says Senator Bob Menendez's lawyers have said that they'll argue that his wife Nadine Menendez was the real culprit. "Two defenses that you typically see in cases are, I didn't know, and it wasn't me. And in this particular case, Menendez is going to use both and say that he did not know what his wife Nadine was doing until the extent that she was receiving a benefit, it was not something that he was involved with." Michael Cohen was once Donald Trump's fixer and lawyer. He's now taking the stand for Trump's ongoing hush money trial. The jury in his hush money trial was shown payments Cohen gave to Stormy Daniels in 2016 for $130,000. Money prosecutors say was to stay quiet about a sex encounter which Daniels told the jury about last week. Something Trump denies. Prosecutors say the crime was Trump paying that money back to Cohen. Entering court, Trump blasting the case. "This trial is rigged. It's dishonest. It's a disgrace for New York. It's a disgrace for the country. I should be out campaigning now." Joining Trump in court, his son Eric senators J.D. Vance and Tommy Tuberville along with representative Nicole Malia-Takis at Criminal Court in Manhattan, Julie Walker, New York. Wildfires are raging across western Canada. Ben Bogan from British Columbia Wildfire Service says fuel and wind conditions are right for extreme fire behavior. "This region has experienced multiple years of drought with a below normal snowpack this past winter. As a result of this, our forests in the Fort Nelson zone are very receptive to new fire ignitions and rapid rates of spread." This is AP News. Stocks have rallied so far this month on revived hopes that inflation may ease enough to convince the Federal Reserve to cut its main interest rate later this year.
